Melia Las Americas: Nice resort

Great time overall. Service was exceptional and staff always helpful. Food was very decent for a Cuba resort, couple of times they ran out of condiments but had them back the following day. Drinks were good, but some of the bars didn't have juices for slushie drinks. No tomato juice was available when we were there

Sol Cayo Coco: Great vacation

The resort is still recovering from a hurricane 3 years ago and from Covid. Our room was dated but clean and although we hadn’t requested it we had a lovely ocean view and even were able to get wifi. The Buffett was fairly good though repetitive after 2 weeks! The staff in it were great and we certainly didn’t starve. There are obviously some shortages but that would be the same for any hotel. The front desk staff were pleasant and helpful and the bar staff were also great. Whether or not I would recommend it would depend on who was asking. Some of my friends would love it and others might not!

Melia Internacional: Hotel Post-Covid

The resort and hotel are huge. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Due to current world affairs, Cuba is lacking in supplies. The Melia International Varadero was short on wine, both red and white, mint for mojitos and daiquiri/Pina colada juice. We were luckier than some resorts further down the beach who were lacking wine, butter, toilet paper and kleenex. But honestly, those are the only "cons" (if you can call them that) that I could find about the place.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Some Problems

The staff at the resort were fantastic. However, there were some drawbacks. The room smelled very musty, the sink and bathtub barely drained and the 110 volt outlet in the bathroom didn’t work. We asked them to fix it but they did not. Also there were cockroaches in the buffet restaurant. The food was highly repetitive. The beach was strewn with seaweed. Melia Internacional: One of the Better Resorts in Varadero

We have been to Cuba almost 20 times and we have stayed at many hotels and casa particulars. We feel we appreciate what a 4 or 5 star hotel in Cuba is compared to elsewhere. There is a difference. If you've never been, expect a different quality of food, due largely to the US embargo. But as far as hotels in the area goes, this place is probably one of the better ones. We stayed in the Level which is a slight notch above regular and it comes with a few perks such as access to a slightly quieter area of the beach, a concierge and a few lounges and restaurants. The Level loung is a nice spot for a quick drink or snacks. Two negatives. There is an outdoor restaurant for the Level patrons for breakfast and lunch named Criollo. Although the food and coffee was great, it was the only area that we found the staff to be unfriendly, even grumpy. And, secondly if your room faces the ocean view of the beach it is a spectacular view; however, you will hear loud bar music until about 1am. We like to try new places, but we would not hestitate to go back to the Melia International.

Sol Palmeras: Not the best resort

Food was not to good hard to eat the meat if you don’t get to the buffet right away all the meat is gone. Pretty much every employee was friendly and really got along with. The beach is absolutely gorgeous more then enough room pool has comfy beds

Sol Palmeras: Fantastic family-oriented resort

Re our stay at Sol Palmeras, Apr1 to 8, 2023: My husband, my adult son and I spent a wonderful week at this resort, in one of the convenient bungalows. We have very little to complain about this trip! Staff were friendly and helpful. Most exceptional was the fact that none of the staff harassed us for any money or gifts, which was the case in other resorts. We gave candies to those who served us at the bars and buffet tables. Most were overjoyed to receive this small token of gratitude. We br [... read more]ought with us a few more substantial gifts such as baseball caps (some with logos) or beer can holders and special spice containers, for example, which we gave when extra credit was due. For our maid, we brought a pair of shoes which, miraculously, fit her to a tee! Also, we gave her some hair bands and various lotions, lip balm and lavender spritzer & more. She was so grateful! The bungalow was extremely clean. Linens & towels were changed daily. Huge bottles of clean, pure water were distributed daily, often two at a time. Food at the buffets was plentiful: lots of variety in vegetables (eg pumpkin squash, brussel sprouts), rice and bean dishes, plenty of cheeses (eg blue cheese) and deli meats, lots of freshly baked pizzas at lunch & supper, great assortments of desserts (plus plenty of chocolate & strawberry ice cream & more), various juices and breads. Also, plenty of fresh fruit such as guava, papaya & watermelon presented at nearly every meal, also fresh greens and tomatoes, for supper and lunch. Once, there was smoked salmon served, but that went quick! We only went to one A la Carte restaurant (Chinese, which was ok BTW), as we really enjoyed the buffet food... The coffee was delectable, although only served at breakfast. However, we could get iced coffee at the lounge bar any time of the day... The pool was lovely, but a bit too warm by late afternoon. Lots of water activities (eg aquacises or water sports). My husband was allowed to have his daily swim prior to 9AM which was a real bonus for him and the water was much cooler at 7:30 AM, making his swim so.much more enjoyable. We also enjoyed the fabulous beach and jumped in the huge waves a few times - lots of fun! In addition, we met lovely people from around the world. We did not go on any excursion, didn't feel we needed to as we really needed a restful vacation. Night entertainment was varied, although not 'on a grand scale'. We attended one of the nightly beach parties where several people did some line-dancing - that was fun! There also was a wonderful outdoor buffet on one of the days we were there, lots of chicken and various meats plus calamari, fresh greens etc, all the while being entertained by dancers and Caribbean music. In short, we had a great time!

Paradisus Varadero: Has Potential

Beach and pools were amazing , coffee was great , mixed drinks were limited and not very good , food was same thing everyday with no beef or pork , chicken and fish only protein, a la cartes were same as buffets pre much, toilet paper was available in public washrooms 25 % of the time , hand dryers didn't work and no paper towels to dry your hands , this resort has potential because of the location and grounds being so good

Melia Peninsula Varadero: People are amazing

We stayed for 7 days my friend son have allergies, from the front desk to customer service to chef and kitchen helpers satisfied her needs. We are greatful to all their help. The servers Daniella, Cardinal, Ric, Jennysy, Stephanie are very helpful to us. Chef Santiago done beyond the needs of the kid who have allergy with the help of kitchen supervisor Janet. Our room attendant Katie is funny and very helpful 10 thumbs up to all the staff of the Melia Peninsula Varadero till next time

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Bad Experience...

I liked the beaches and the resort lay out, but the food and the house keeping was a disaster...I lost 4 LB during 7 days trip. There was no customer service, bad attitude of staff, even though we were tipping every one of them that talked to us. There were COCKROCHES in the buffet going around the dishes, even we had a big one in our room that had to chase him out. They were not changing the towels daily, leave the same towel wet back on hanger and when we asked for a new one they sent u [... read more]s one that was old and smelt so bad that we air dried ourselves. Always short in the toilet papers, Bed sheets were stained and the plastic cover under the sheets were wrinkled which would make your body ache the whole day. The food was the worst of all, their meat even the chicken was so chewy and tasted so blanc. No Banana, Avocado. even their limited salads or veggies were offered had no sauce. Also, if you were not in the buffet within the first half hour some of the dishes go empty first without being refilled again. The other thing that really was bothersome that there were not enough dishes, we had to look around for 5 min to find a small dish to be able to take food every time. Never been so disappointed from the 50 all inclusive trip that I've been to until now.

The food at the buffet restaurant was vey clean specious and had numerous choices oif proteins, fruits and grains. Our room was large and spacious with a king size bed and very comfortable. Rooms were cleaned every day. 3 bottles of bottled water were provided everyday, and beers for the fridge. The resort grounds were well maintained. The hedges with vibrant blossoms of bright fushia flowers was very appealing. They had musical, dancing entertainment. Music played very d [... read more]ay at the pool. Access to the water was by gradual levels of walking in water, with few steps. There was transportation provided to and from the lobby and beach.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Wonderful Cuba!

The hotel staff were amazing! Food, so-so, but we knew that going in. The beaches and drinks and friendly staff made up for that! When you understand Cuba's economy it is hard to complain! We had a very relaxing, stress-free vacation and isn't that what it is all about!

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Overall good resort

The resort was a little dated, a few areas need to be updated ie rooms, pool area is small and the theatre is not 4 star. The biggest disappointment were the drinks. All were served in small juice glasses even cocktails like pina coladas. Wine was served in a tiny champagne glass and both white and red wine were not available at dinner. Even the Italian restaurant had no red wine. The drinks were watery with very little alcohol. We had a difficult time finding even one that was good. Melia Jardines del Rey: 4th time there, will be back.

People fabulous as always, and one of the best beaches anywhere. Upkeep and maintenance ok. Still dealing with shortages which affects the food supply, so selection limited, and I guess access to pool chemicals. Normally the pool is crystal clear but they were struggling with the water quality this time. Bar selection and supply ok. Reduced show availability but they made up for it with group sing and dance. It is going to take awhile to get fully back on their feet but its still a good vacatio [... read more]n. Met quite a few regulars to this resort.

Great facilities and willing staff but make sure you check if staff is not short during your stay because that will impact your wait times or availabilities of certain services Communication at the reception is not best

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Keep looking

I was really disappointed in my trip here. The outside of the resort is nice. The rooms are not. Originally they would have been but they haven’t been well maintained. The grout was dirty, the taps corroded, the bathroom counters were never cleaned. I found the bed to be very uncomfortable as well. I switched rooms the first day as my first room was really bad. The second room was better but not by much. The safe didn’t work and even though I told them it was a battery issue (a light said so [... read more]), I had to spend 2 mornings in my room waiting for people who never came. The pool was lovely but people put towels on their chairs and then go to the beach for most of the day. They don’t serve drinks, you go to the bar to get them, if that matters to you. The chairs are old as well, so weren’t super comfy. You can’t see the beach until you’re on it. It is beautiful and I always got a chair (which were older than the pool chairs) but I saw a lot of people who got there and there were no chairs left. And then there was the food. They obviously tried to make nice food but it was the same food every day and at every restaurant. I know they have trouble getting supplies but there are different ways to make chicken. Also, I got food poisoning while there and spent a day and a half in my room. They don’t have their food on ice or on heat. So it’s just sitting at room temperature. The staff was friendly but I didn’t find that they were overly personable. The resort was missing that special feeling when the staff get to know you. Like I said, they were friendly and helpful to me, but just didn’t connect. I definitely wouldn’t come back to this resort. I love cuba and this holiday dampened that a bit. Also, I’m not a traveller who expects perfection. I’ve backpacked and stayed in hostels, which were sometimes nicer than my room here. Just to give you some perspective on my review.

Melia Marina Varadero: Not a 5 star.

Cuba has few if any 5 star resorts and this one isn't one. Melia Marina Varadeo is 3 star at best. Room was good. Beach was excellent. Staff was competent. Property is unimaginative, mostly concrete with very little shade or natural features such as flowers, coconut trees, shrubs, etc. Unless you're a sun freak don't go here. Resort is based at a huge marina with dozens of catamarans and cabin cruisers going out everyday so it's not surprising that activities for landlubbers were scarce. Go [... read more]ing at end of season is not good since the resources seem to be spent, i.e. food was lacking in variety, taste, and quantity. We will not be returning to this resort or Varadero as we prefer small more natural resorts.

Melia Las Antillas: Disappointed!

I don’t like to write negative reviews but I feel like I have to about this resort. The beach was amazing. The resort needs some upgrading but was very clean. The staff was awesome. However, there was no wine all week and very limited spirits. Very limited amounts of food. No butter nor milk for the first few days. The food was terrible. The ALa Cartes were terrible. Very limited variety of food. No pasta! We will not return.

Melia Las Antillas: Wouldn't rate the resort a 4.5 should be rated as a 3

The grounds, beaches and service was great. The food is terrible, I would rate it 5 out of 10. Most times you could not eat the meat it was so tough. There was never no pasta, no condiments, sometimes butter. No white wine. Was not worth waiting for A la carte's . Better to eat at buffet. Menu at the pool restaurant did not change all week. People should be told if they want condiments or peanut butter or jam to bring their own.
