Barcelo Maya Colonial: No bologna at the buffet . . . . :o)

Three of us stayed at the Barceló Maya Colonial in early April 2015. My husband and I had been twice before (one at the Palace and once the Colonial), and it was my father’s first time. We asked for, and received rooms close together on the third floor in a quiet building (quiet at night, i.e. away from the theatre). We were in the Jalisco building, at the end closest to the pool and beach. It was just what we asked for – clean, well kept, and quiet. We had a problem the first day with our [... read more] air conditioning, but within 20 minutes someone arrived – right on schedule – and fixed it. TIP - ask for a bed-topper - the mattresses are pretty hard without them. The food was great – same as our previous visits. My father was really pleased with the quality of food – much better than he had expected - bologna at the buffet perhaps. ‘Oh, there isn’t any bologna, I guess I’ll have the smoked salmon instead then . . . !’ We went to the seafood, steakhouse, Japanese and Italian restaurants. All of them were excellent – except for the Japanese – what a disappointment. We had been there on our last trip, and really enjoyed the food and the show that the chef put on. Unfortunately the ‘show’ has taken over and become the main focus, and the food has suffered – it wasn’t anywhere as good. Two of us had what was supposed to be duck . . . . no idea what it really was, but it definitely was not duck! Bars were great as usual – helpful staff and fast service, even though the resort was busy. Except in the lobby bar, which seemed to work on extra slow time, even when we were the only ones in there! The beach, as always, is what makes Barceló stand out. Yes, there was quite a lot of seaweed, but it’s only on the edge of the beach, and they clear it up diligently. I didn’t have a problem once in the water – there was a bit around, but not enough to bother me. I went down to the Palace end most mornings to visit the turtles, off the pier with the fish, and right out front of the Colonial to play in the surf – always had a great time. We did two trips – one to Coba (a visit to the pyramid, zip line and cenote visit). A great trip for us, well worth it. But as they say – it’s all good fun until someone gets hurt – and hopefully the gent who dislocated his shoulder jumping into the cenote is okay – fortunately we know first aid, and our guides were excellent – rearranging people in various buses so they could take him to hospital. Our other trip was to Akumal (we took a taxi as we’ve been there before, so knew where to go). Lovely place for snorkeling – but if you go, try and be there for 8:00am to miss the tour groups. We toured the village, and stopped for lunch at Lucy’s café – great food and friendly staff. Would we go back . . . . yes - we’re already planning the next trip.

Akumal Bay Beach and Spa Resort: Amazing Beachfront Resort!

This was our third time at Akumal Bay Beach and were very impressed with the renos.The beds and pillows were awesome, buffet was improved, added a la cartes, more pools, and the added beach bar service is Great!! The staff there also amazing!!! shout out to Sintia and the One Man Band.. very nice sound .. ! It did have a busier feel to it this time.. last 2 visits seemed a little more laid back , which we enjoy . The beach and snorkelling always the best! Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Fabulous resort!

What a great family trip! We travelled as a family of three (son 5) and had a wonderful time. There is a real relaxing, spa like vibe throughout the resort with fabulous amenities (Kids club, café, sports bar..etc.) All fantastic!

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Best trip ever, will book again

Hotel beautiful!!!! People wonderful. Food the best I have ever had on vacation.!!!!!!will book 2 weeks next year. Can't wait to go back. We did not utilize the butler service, but next time will use them to help book a la carte dinners. long drive from the airport but cold beer on the bus. Entertainment hit and miss, best night was the live band night. We love to dance. Would highly recommend this hotel!!!!

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: nice resort

The hotel and grounds were very clean and well maintained, buffet food was great lots of choices. Down side lots of young children very noisy and out all hours and in all areas of resort. Husband slipped on pool stairs seen several people slip and fall, mentioned it to hotel front desk staff. this has been my 3rd time to this resort and have mentioned the stairs and a railing needed.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Our Wedding

We had an awesome time the Bahia Principe Coba. We held our wedding at the Tulum part of the resort and the wedding team was great, anything and everything we needed they were happy to do for us. I would stay at this resort again. All the staff was nice expect for Brenda the manager of the Royal Golden Club. She was rude and not very helpful at all. Overall a great experience

Occidental at Xcaret Destination: Major explosion on site

The hotel was nice the grounds are well-kept. Wild life was cool to see and snorkeling in the inlet was awesome the explosion in the swim club wasn't so cool first night we got there. explosion blew apart the building and blew out the windows on all three floors of two units. Happened at 6:00 am so no one was hurt. Didn't sleep good for the remaining days there.

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: All in one great resort!

Sandos Caracol Eco Experience Resort....a resort that is full of life, be it underground (Cenote) and aboveground (jungle with a variety of animals), top it off with great personnel! Aside from the beautiful nature that this resort can offer, it has a great team of workers. Everyone we met, were all dedicated and passionate on what they do. Thank you for the great memories....we will certainly spread the good words about your resort!

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: HUGE RESORT

I just returned from trip at the grand bahia. This resort is huge and you can visit the other resorts which i thought was great. The grounds were kept very clean, hotel was perfect everytime we returned. The workers were amazingly friendly and hard workers! Food was awesome with lots to choose from. I just felt like there could be more music or entertainment going on. More of a family resort. The beach was nice but they were constantly working on the seaweed. Grand Palladium Kantenah: Head down to the "quiet side" of the beach

Definitely worth it to stay in a junior suite (or mayan suite if travelling in a pair) for the great access to the beach. Traveled in early April and found that the resort was full, but not packed. Pick out a lounge chair on the strand nearest the "wedding" area - definitely quieter and great access to beach-bar. Spend a day strolling and explore the whole resort - easily walkable if you are in moderate shape. Head down to the salt water pool and take the cobble-stone path along the shore, gorge [... read more]ous views. The pros definitely outweigh the cons but here are the few I encountered - check-in was a slow, delayed process. But we arrived "late" and only had to wait until about 4:30pm to get into our rooms. The resort (as most in Mexico) definitely caters to couples but there is enough to do that if you are travelling as a single/used to travelling as a single you won't feel too put out. This could be a "con" (but wasn't for me) - the resort is very "eco-friendly," you will see many critters, most of all - iguanas! Lovely if you like feeling more connected to nature/surrounded by flora and fauna.

Ocean Coral Riviera Cancun: Excellent resort!

The resort is beautiful, very clean! Rooms are very large and comfortable. 3rd floor has a great view of the ocean. Food was great! Japanese restaurant was excellent! Pools are wonderful! Swim up bar was too busy to enjoy. But the activity pool was very nice. Entertainment was excellent expecially Jiovanny & Ignacio they were fantastic!

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Great Resort

Very clean resort, well kept, staff was always cleaning the grounds and pools. Room was great(got upgraded to a 1 bedroom deluxe) Food was fantastic, always got what we wanted. Service was good and very friendly.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Great trip!!

Very pleased with the resort and its sister resorts. All were spotlessly clean. Food was great, and we loved our penthouse rooms balcony. Trams between resorts and the beach worked seamlessly and we never waited more than 5 minutes. Often, even if the tram that arrived wasn't going where we wanted to go, the driver took us there anyway.

Bahia Principe Explore Tulum: Great resort for couples & families alike!

We went with friends (another couple) in mid April and stayed in the Tulum section of the resort since it is closer to the beach. The resort itself is about 1.5 hours away from the airport and is massive (three resorts in one). Pros: You have access to all the resorts. Coba is the newest and largest, which has the best restaurants and a nice lobby bar. The buffet is also better at this resort. Akumal has the 'cleanest' beach and a little more private. The excursion tours are great and the (up [... read more]graded) excursion to Chichen Itza + diving in the underground cave was a particular highlight. Highly recommended. Food is excellent - particularly the French restaurant (Le Gourmet), Seafood restaurant and Mikado (Japanese). Free dolphin show at 11AM at Tulum. Cons: The beach has a lot of seaweed at this time of year, the locals try their best to cleanup but there are better beaches elsewhere. The rooms are OK but not stunning - perhaps upgrading might be a good idea. Overall I would recommend this resort due to the pros stated above. The weather was phenomenal at this time of year and definitely do as many excursions as possible.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Lovely Resort

We stayed for a week in April 2015 at the Coba part of this resort in Mayan Riviera. Beautiful and very large. Units were clean. Air conditioners had trouble keeping up with the high temperatures at this time of year. Beach was beautiful but the drawback was having to take the 'train' to get there. The hotel was far from the beach. There are lots of pools. Food was good. Lots of variety.

Very clean resort....well organized and good service! We felt welcomed from the start and staff were friendly! The food was excellent everywhere we went and available all the time...had fun with family and friends!!

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Beautiful Resort but too crowded during our stay!

The rooms are lovely, the grounds are beautiful and the entertainment was great!! Unfortunately, the resort was overcrowded during our stay and was almost impossible to get chairs at the pool or beach. We ended laying our towels on the grass on more then one occasion and definitely didn't feel like 4 1/2 star quality when you can't get a lounge chair at any of the pools or the beach. El Dorado Seaside Palms: Amazing Resort

My wife and I have travelled to the Mayan Riviera several times as well as several other locations throughout the Caribbean and this was our best trip ever. This resort is perfect for couples. The attention to detail at the Eldorado Sea Side suites is exception everything from the room, to the food to the staff were exceptional. The check in process was fast and easy and within 10 minutes of our arrival we were being escorted to our room. I have recommended the resort to several friends and family since our return and I am looking forward to our next trip to an Eldorado property. Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Amazing Place

The rooms were very modern, spacious and elegant. The food was very good, we went to all the restaurants and the buffet and the buffet was the best I have ever had at an all inclusive resort. The drinks were top shelf with a vast variety of drinks.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: memorable vacations!

Everything was absolutely perfect from our check-in to our check-out. Fabulous food, good wine even house brand. Buffets or a la carte restaurants, everything was absolutely delicious. We will definitely go back! Great nightly entertainment. Marvelous vacations!
