Melia Marina Varadero: fantastic resort

The room was brilliant, food was great, pools perfect but the evening entertainment was spectacular...french a la carte restaurant was excellent...will definitely return to this resort soon...Varadero is like a second home.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Excellent stay over March break

We were a family of four (kids 10 and 14) vacationing over March break. We were very pleased with our stay at the Blau Marina Varadero. The grounds and beach were lovely - we never had an issue finding lounge chairs either at the beach or the pool. In fact, on many occasions we had the pool to ourselves! We weren't sure how busy the resort would be given the time of year (and were expressly looking for a resort away from the spring-break partiers). We did stay away from the swim-up bars, which were a bit more party-like (but seemed to be very family-friendly - lots of kids etc). The food was pretty good (not 5-star, but for my family totally acceptable) - we were able to find veggies but had to be a bit selective to find things we liked. We certainly didn't go hungry! We had two rooms - one was very musty smelling, but that did air out a bit over the week. The hotel offered to change the rooms, but we loved our location so just put up with it. We weren't in the rooms all that much anyway. We had a great time - I'd recommend this resort.

Palma Real: A good deal

Second time at this resort.Grounds, public areas clean, always someone on duty washing floors in public areas, washrooms etc. Food was plentiful with good assortment to please everyone. Room was super clean. Amazing variety of shows ie aquatic, variety of dance themes etc. Within short walking distance great nite life: dancing, restaurants. Double decker bus you can ride all day for 5 pesos. Walk to multiple markets or bus it. Ocean gorgeous, could always find a chair. Rep very helpful.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Would return!

Very nice hotel, would return. Pros: beautiful beaches, pools, waterslide, coffee bar, beach bar piña coladas, shower pressure, omelettes Cons: bland food (as expected for cuba, no one got sick, everyone found something to eat - pasta,omelets, fries), rooms are a bit dated (but had no issues with cleanliness or pests) I would recommend this resort and would go back again!

Muthu Playa Varadero: You get what you pay for...

Vacationed in Playa D'Oro from March 22-29/15. This was our 5th time to Cuba and always had a good experience but this was our first and last at this resort. We had to wait for 2 days to get beach towels and were able to change for clean ones twice that week. Apparently they had a problem with the only laundry facility in Varadero and couldn't provide clean towels. Also had to use the same towels in our bathroom for the entire week. We've never experienced this before but hey, that's Cuba for yo [... read more]u. The beach was beautiful of course, the grounds nice, food was good, but the rooms definitely need upgrading. We had to call someone to come take care of the horrid smell from the drains in the bathroom which they did within the same day and the dirty towels we left on the floor to cover the drains were on the varanda drying for us to use when we took our shower. Yuk!!! They didn't even bother to provide clean towels knowing they were used to cover the drains. We finally got clean ones after we told them what we had to do with them but that was it for the rest of the week. Next time I'm taking my own towels!!!

Resonance Blu Varadero: Great beach

The beach was amazing. De Nancy the lady who looked after our room was great. The main pool with the slide was great, the kids had a blast. The food at the buffet was okay at times. The chicken kebab that I had was under cooked, so was my hamburger. The lady cooking the omelets was super friendly and did a great job cooking. The lady that I dealt with at the exchange at the front of the resort was just plain nasty. I wanted to exchange some money for $1 peso with no luck. Starfish Varadero: Awesome beach!!

The beach was definitely the best part of this vacation. Just beautiful!! Enjoyed the activities at the beach (kayaking, catamaran trip with snorkelling, paddle boats) . The pools at the resort were also very nice. We liked our bungalow room, which was large enough for 4 people. Great service from all staff at the hotel.

Be Live Turquesa: Akumal Bay and Wellness Resort

My wife and I spent 1 week from March 5th to 12th. This was our 2nd visit as we were here the previous year 2014. The resort has been totally renovated since our last visit. We enjoyed the improved dining experience as there are many more a-la cart restaurants with great food! The sushi bar was another hi-lite as we often didn't feel like a big lunch and would have a fresh assorted sushi plate with a few tall cold beers while overlooking the sea. There are no beach towel restrictions so guests took as many as they wanted. This caused problems since some people would place towels in the beach palapas and on sun beds around the pool. This made it difficult to find a free palapa unless you were diligent and hit the beach before 7 AM most mornings.This towel game although is common in many resorts. We were very impressed with all the changes from last year. It appears a lot of thought was put into the design of everything from walkways,restaurants and rooms to the great service by the staff. My wife and I will definitely consider returning next year as long as the prices don't jump dramatically now that this resort has been upgraded to a 5 star.

Roc Arenas Doradas: Classic and clean

This hotel is older but well maintained. The grounds are clean, the restaurant well stocked and very friendly service. The beach bar and beach restaurant were fantastic. The grill was fantastic - fresh fish daily. The bar closed at six, would have been nice I f it were later so we could have a cocktail while watching the sun set. The beach is beautiful. Th [... read more]e nightly shows were great we really enjoyed them. The tennis court (one) could use some repairs. The rooms are a good size and all have a terrace.

Oasis Islazul: First vaca in 21 years - Awful

The hotel is run down but the staff is amazing. It's a one star not a 2, not even close. I got Sick 3 days into my trip. Fever 39, vomit, the runs reti rende to Canada 4 days later And was diagnosed with Salmonella poisoning. Was banned from working by the CDC because I am a nurse....contagious nurse. How great. I suffered for 11 days. Like I said fantastic staff and a gorgeous ocean but the rest was real bad.

Memories Jibacoa: Excellent

Oasis Islazul: great beach

great beach, clean rooms, food was not too bad, staff was very helpful, remember it is all what you make it. I had a great week! Beach was nice and close to the resort if you were in the front of the building. Not too far from the markets and other locations.

Hotel Bella Costa: Good Value

I was nervous after reading the review on trip adviser but was very surprise at this resort. The rooms were very dated but clean. .We had booked a standard room with no balcony but were upgraded free to an room with an balcony with a little ocean view. The food was good we could always find something we liked. We loved the Beach Bar and it was also the Cuban a la carte. We loved eating on the beautiful Varadero Beach. The Front desk Staff was wonderful. They always tried to make you happy if the [... read more]re was a problem. We found the Lobby Bar was Great for good drinks, service and atmosphere. We loved listening to the music there in the evening. The only complain I would say I had was I found the ladies washroom down at the Beach Bar could of been cleaned more often and the food had way too much salt on it at times. My husband loved the golf course. We look forward in returning here again to relax on the beautiful beach and for my husband to play golf at varadero Golf course.

Melia Las Americas: First tirip to Cuba

Overall, we enjoyed our 7 day stay at the hotel. The only blemish was experienced at arrival, when we arrived at the resort at 11:30 am and there was no room available for us. We were very tired (awake for over 24 hours) and just wanted to settle in. The front desk staff were distracted by constant phone calls and seemed uninterested in dealing with us. Fortunately a shift change at the desk brought a very helpful employee who tried her best to get us settle in a satisfactory room. After two les [... read more]s than satisfactory rooms (worn out bathroom tiles, tub, etc.), we were put into a great oceanview room on the fourth floor. I realize that it is hard to guarantee one's preferences but when a tour operator brings their flight into Cuba early in the day, you just want a room to settle into! Our chambermaid Julita "Julia" was very cheerful and welcoming. Our room was always kept clean and well-stocked. The grounds are well-kept and pleasant to go for walks. The resort is well-layed out and is close to the beautiful beach and the nearby Plaza America. We enjoyed the entertainment and the animation staff went out of their way to try and encourage guests to engage in fun activities. In general, the food was good with plenty of choices in the buffet. The a-la-carte restaurants were excellent with wonderful service. The adult-only atmosphere was relaxing. Guests ranged in ages from young adults to elderly, which made for a nice mix.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Lovely, Warm and Just What the Doctor Ordered

My husband and I chose the Melia Peninsula Varadero for our holiday in Cuba last week, March 20-27 because we wanted to be close enough to take a day trip into Havana. I almost booked another property but as I perused this one, I found I liked the architecture and landscaping a lot better. It's actually very important to me, that I always enjoy the view no matter where I am on the resort. Our room at Peninsula was comfortable and clean, the tub and shower and walk-in closet were in good order and most welcome. The bed was not the softest, but it is Cuba and the beds are quite standard:no sagging springs, but you won't get memory foam and pocket coils. The TV, fridge and coffee maker worked fine, but it was lucky I brought a plug converter to fit the North American plug shape to the Caribbean outlet, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to make coffee in the room! (would have had to resort to the outlet on the hair dryer in the bathroom). Décor was pleasant, nice to have the fridge restocked mostly daily with water/beer (had to remind them about the water a few times), and the welcome bottle of rum for our Junior suite was very much enjoyed. The food was good quality, lots of variety in the buffet and the fresh grills for eggs, fish, and meat were all wonderful ( big shout out to Hicel (?) , The Omelette God. Personable, fast, and an egg whisperer if there ever was one.) The A la cartes we dined in were enjoyed both for the service and the fare - the Japanese was a Benihana style show and most entertaining. Overall, the staff were lovely and helpful: our toilet was fixed very promptly when we found the water low, our sink plug fixed also in very short order when it got stuck, and when lost coming in at night my husband got help to find his way back to our room. I advised the lady booking the a la cartes for us, I was gluten intolerant, and no problem, all the a la carte servers knew I was coming and assisted me with my food orders. The pool was very nice, swim up bar and bar service were attentive and the setting most relaxing. The beach was just gorgeous, white sand with always a lounger available, and the water was very comfortable after getting used to it. We did not use the recreational facilities, save the gym - good, basic, and air conditioned - and we did not attend any shows - we were always too tired after dinner! Generally it was a little bar time and then to bed. The day trip to Havana was very educational and great value, but bring water, it is very expensive to buy at the rest stop on the way. What I enjoyed the most about our time here was at almost every turn, a staff member was being helpful and warm. Alex the gardener, Felipe at the poolside snack bar, Jade our housekeeping maid, all the main lobby bar staff, were great. A big shout out especially to Philippe, our Air Transat rep, who was the best, very helpful and an encyclopedia of info and tips. We are looking forward to coming back soon!

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Lovely Resort

It was the first time that we had been to this resort, The size was small enough that it was easily accessible for all the accommodations and restaurants. Arriving around midnight we were pleased with the fast check-in and the porter/bellboy who took our luggage to our rooms, explaining everything that we needed to know re: lighting, air conditioning, and showing the layout of the room was most helpful. Be prepared that in some of the washrooms around the resort, no toilet seats, and sometimes no toilet paper.....Be prepared.

Grand Memories Varadero: Fun in the Sun

RIU Varadero is a beautiful resort with an amazing beach. We loved the swimming and the cleanliness of the resort. The food was good, we loved the seafood! The entertainment was fun and local. The weather was great for most of the week we stayed.

Hotel Villa Cuba: I love villa cuba

I really enjoy staying in the villas. You have your own space as well as your own yard complete with pool. Also when we go with family we can all stay in the same villa and enjoy the use of the living and dining rooms for socializing or games. Each villa has 4-6 rooms so grab your friends and book one today! Additionally they have a sky bar where we go for the best pina coladas before dinner to watch the sun set through its 360 view.

Melia Las Americas: Gorgeous Resort - Been there 7 times

Just got back on the 31st. Melia Las Americas is smaller size resort, (320 rooms) which suits me best. As an adults only resort, I find that I am in my element. It has a great beach, very close to main building's rear patio. 30 - 40 ft to the beach. The staff are amazing. I am remembered year after year and addressed by name. I'm barely through the front door before the hugging begins. It is well staffed for the number of guests. I find the food to be good. The quality and flavour of the food ha [... read more]s increased year by year. It is located next to the best golf course in Varadero. There is an extensive entertainment department at Melia Las Americas and all that I have encountered are skilled and beautiful performers. I do go there for the warmth and the beach, but I get so much more for my $'s. For me, when I want it to be, it is a totally peaceful experience, yet with a lot of flavour.
