Positives:
This hotel is beautiful and the property is extremely well cared for. The staff is very friendly and we had an amazing time here. We upgraded to La Perla with a swim out but because of the time of year it was very cold and the hotel accommodated our request to ditch the swim out for a regular adults side room. The playa del carmen side was beautiful and seemed like a great time but we really enjoyed our time at the adults side and the reserve package was worth every dollar. We staye[... read more]d majority of the time on the reserve and enjoyed the access to the special areas such as the restaurant and the private beach access. We also used the spa services at an additional cost and it was worth every dollar.
Negatives:
The food was great for breakfast and lunch but aside from the hibachi we found the food lacking for dinner. The reservations were easy enough to make but the food itself for dinner in our opinion was 5/10. You could for sure find something at the buffet but we were not very impressed overall at dinner. Another reason for lack of points is because of the steakhouse. The steakhouse is not included with the all inclusive and so you have to pay for everything at that restaurant. It was very annoying because dinner options were already not so great and it felt like a money grab to have to pay for the steak house. It would have been ok if it was apart of the all inclusive but had menu items for sale , however that was not the case.
Overall the hotel was beautiful, the beach was lovely, the food was good enough, the rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff were incredible. The vibe was quiet with small bursts of excitement and a slightly older crowd on the adults side. We would for sure go again.

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Great Location
Fabulous location, rooms cleaned daily, friendly staff and great food. The food is actually better than intown and better prices. My only suggestion is the furniture dragging on the floor from anyone upstairs. SOOOO LOUD. They need something to buffer the noise. It is like nails on a chalkboard.
Beds are very comfortable and so are pillows. This review is for the Fives Downtown Playa NOT the Fives Beach Hotel and Residence which I will never stay at again. Literally, caught staff in ou[... read more]r room trying to steel after being told no towels or turndown service was needed. Front staff there could care less that we were almost robbed and made nothing but excesses for the staff who I caught red handed.

Occidental Tucancun: Mediocre Resort
The hotel has too many stairs, you have to walk up and down too many stairs to get to the restaurants, to get to the pools and to get to the bars because nothing is on the same level. The adult only pool had ladders only to enter and exit and one was broken and not closed off. The food was less than acceptable. Cold, tasteless and not Mexican.
The staff was amazing and the rooms were clean.

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: First Time All Inclusive
I’ve never been to an all inclusive resort previously and I would definitely look for a different set of qualities in a resort next time.
I found the hotel clean, the staff friendly and the overall environment very inviting. The food was consistent but pretty bland for my liking. The alcohol served was poor and I’m pretty sure watered down. I don’t drink much but when I do I would like a premium alcohol which isn’t watered down. I purchased my own beer from the local grocery store as a result.[... read more] I did notice other patrons had done the same.

Bahia Principe Explore Tulum: Second time around ?
After 3 years we returned to Bahai Príncipe Grand Tulum as we enjoyed it so much. The second time around was just as enjoyable with the exception of the food. In all aspects, buffet and a la carte, the quality was somewhat disappointing. Also we felt we would try the Sian Ka’an Tulum ( part of the same complex as it is adult only and quieter Not to say we didn’t enjoy Grand Tulum but as a couple of oldsters we feel next time a more sedate environment would be better.

The resort is kept extremely clean. Service with bars & restaurants very good & fast. No issues with our rooms. They were cleaned every day.
Bar in room was stocked every day & we didn't have to ask. Food & entertainment was fantastic. Always something to do. They even decorated my bed on my birthday & left some birthday desserts & a Happy Birthday card.
No complaints at all

Riu Dunamar: amazing resort overall
RIU Dunamar was a very good overall experience.
The beach was beautiful and swimmable, and the service throughout the resort was friendly and attentive. The food had good variety and solid options, especially for an all-inclusive — we never felt limited or hungry. Rooms were basic but practical and kept very clean.
A couple of days the minibar wasn’t refilled automatically, but when I requested it through the RIU app it was taken care of the same day. I also requested an extra chair for the ba[... read more]lcony and it was delivered quickly with no issues.
Unfortunately, I did get sick during the stay, which impacted part of the trip, but overall the resort itself met expectations in terms of cleanliness, service, and value. I would still recommend RIU Dunamar, especially for travelers looking for a relaxed beach vacation with reliable service.

Hotel Dos Playas Faranda: Mixed feelings- overall not great, should be classified as 2 star
Overall my experience was not great. A few good points though..
Food was fantastic. Although not huge rows of options as in larger resorts, everything they offered was delicious. A lot of typical Mexican food in the buffet. They had pizza and sushi snack bar open until 6pm. And another restaurant open different schedules. And then sushi again open for dinner. Very tasty and overall fast service with that most days. Drinks were great at all the bars. They have much better options and flavo[... read more]urs vs what you find in Cuba.
Beach- Water was swimmable. Some days calm with light waves and blue green colour. Boats come in and causing waves so other days created more waves. Always has been swimmable. Seaweed not a huge problem. Little can be found and was cleaned daily. One day seaweed was noticeable and more in the water by shore so was annoying to swim in but was due to heavier waves from boats. Sand was pleasant and white on the beach just not much beach area.
Entertainment- not much going on in the day. They have small team that do little couple zumba dances around the pool or some demonstrations for cooking. Nothing very interesting or entertaining. Would be good if they danced with people in evening as some other resorts do to keep people entertained. No games going on.
For families- nothing really for kids. They have 3 pools. All quite cold as surrounded by buildings and shade. So not enough sun and water in pool was usually cold. ( We were there in January 2026). Main pool often dirty with floating leaves and things. Chairs around pool, it's never enough chairs. About 12 chairs and people reserve with a towel and aren't there most of the time. Layout is strange. If you show up with a stroller or wheelchair, not going to be able to use it much. Lots of stairs, lots of bumpy pavement. This is not a resort that is great for people with mobility. They have a paved slope for getting around to a few of the buildings. But you will not be able to get into the main buffet as stairs to get in. You also would not be able to get to the beach at all as plenty of stairs with many holes and cracks and uneven boards.
Room- Our first room was disappointing # 1003. Faucet is built to spray water all over counter even when on very low. Shower pressure not great. Soap and shampoo provided. Never enough towels. Always something in the room not functioning well. NOT ALL ROOMS have balconies or terrace. This room 1003 has a window only and felt like a prison cell.
The worst part was that my room we discovered had BED BUGS. I will be writing to Tripcentral privately to address the situation to Air Canada Vacations with photos of the little critters I caught and the bites they left on us. Took 3 attempts with the hotel to get room changed. The first time they came in with their own Mexican version of OFF spray and did a little spray in our room. The second time we approached front desk about this they advised they will fumigate while we are out for the day... we continued getting bitten until I believe was 5th night. Woke up to see a bed bug crawling on my son. After picking it up and killing it, we stayed up practically the whole night and found 4 more and killed them too and brought to reception. With this proof they managed to offer change of room for next day. Better room in same category #1403. Much bigger room still on ground level with a terrace. Only downfall is one bed bug traveled with us and showed up later that evening in new room.
Location is good. With stops for dropping off/picking up people was about 40 minutes from CUN airport. 15 min bus ride to central square.
Overall this is a place to recommend to people that are ok with just the bare minimum. Don't care to get much tan or prefer doing excursions. Like good food and drinks. Don't care for much entertainment. Don't mind possibly sleeping with bed bugs. Not recommended for kids, not recommended to people with mobility issues.
The hotel also wanted to charge us for a broken lamp shade that was not our doing. Check out was unpleasant and seems like they are trying to milk money off tourists here and there for things that people did not break.

Secrets Tulum Resort and Beach Club: Not what we expected from a secrets resort…
This resort was a bit disappointing for us and not what we were expecting for the price. The entertainment was lacking and the food was not good. We had a few good dishes but overall the restaurants were disappointing and the buffet was very limited for breakfast, but I loved Rosalina at the omelette station, she was friendly and the omelettes were perfection!! The service however, was excellent, the drinks were great and the hotel itself is very beautiful but I feel they could expand on daily a[... read more]ctivities and nightly one’s (in particular the YouTube concerts projected on a wall). The amenities in the room are great and service to the room was outstanding! The beach club was very nice but could use a few more chairs and some umbrellas on the beach. Also we did not like being forced to sit down with the uvc rep the second we arrived after 12 hours of travel, she was pushy and really was a poor first impression. Overall the resort could use some improvements, I think improving the food would increase the value by a lot. We enjoyed our stay overall and see this resort as having a lot of potential to be great someday.

Dreams Estrella Del Mar Mazatlan : Not 1 complaint!
We just returned from 1 week and it was amazing. We have stayed at Dreams resorts before and they sure do spoil you for other places. We booked a deluxe king ocean view and when we arrived I asked to just upgrade to preferred amenities and keep our room. The first price they gave us we were not interested. When we went back to see if the room was ready they gave us a price of $50 a day so we took it! With preferred you’re able to use the adults only pool which is nice! We love our kids b[... read more]ut when you want a holiday you can choose to be entertained with kids or have a more quiet time at the preferred adults only! We had upgraded booze when available most days I had coors light. And a better grade of vodka!
Food was awesome. Not one complaint. We only did the buffet for breakfast. Used all al le cartes for lunch and dinner as reservations are not required. Twice that week there was a buffet set up at the main pool area it was a BBQ/ Italian type which I had steak it was lovely. The other night it was like seafood and it was up by COCO cafe. We totally missed it. That’s one thing they don’t announce them on the app which would be nice to know when they are
Our room was beautiful and our view was spectacular as we were on the top corner floor #4800 we did see whales and dolphins pretty much everyday.
All in all Dreams did not disappoint us! Definitely would recommend this resort

Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya: We love Valentin and keep coming back.
This is our 6th 2 week stay since 2017 and have only missed because of Covid and illness. otherwise it would be 10 visits out of 10. We love the naturally scenic infrastructure, walking and nature paths, beach access, specialty restaurants and formal attire rules, and friendly, responsive staff. It truly is a pleasure to stay.
However, the journey from Toronto was incredibly tiring, unfortunately the plane had to be changed and baggage removed. The flight from Toronto to Cancun was 3 1/2 hours[... read more]. From arriving at Cancun Airport it took 3 1/4 hours to reach the resort! Baggage handlers disappeared, ground transportation was chaotic and as a result we will probably not fly with Westjet again and will book the resort directly with Valentin and they will arrange all ground transportation.

Iberostar Selection Riviera Cancun: Unhappy with changes made by new management
This trip was our 5th visit to this resort. During the first two visits the resort was Azul and then the Palmar Beach Resort (two visits). It is now part of the Iberostar chain. We are in our mid-70's and my wife has mobility issues. Initially we selected this resort because it was quite small with little walking to the pools, buffet and most restaurants, if situated centrally (i.e., building 2 or 3). During our first stay, we were in a first floor room in building 3. One issue was that we w[... read more]ere not able to use the pools closest to that building because access was via ladders, rather than steps with a railing. This was not an issue because the Adult Only Pool was only about 20 metres away and had appropriate handicapped access (i.e., steps with a railing). During our next 3 stays, we went for the more expensive option of a swim-up room in building 2. This provided stair and railing access for my wife and allowed us water access via swimming channels to the Adult Pool with a swim-up bar and various activities. This was ideal as Building 2 is also close to the majority of services/restaurants. We requested the same room for our most recent stay, but quickly found out that we could no longer access the pool which, under the new management, was reserved for Prestige Iberostar members. Thus we were paying for an expensive swim-up room with no water access to any of the pools. That is, a swim-up room with nowhere to swim. Our immediate complaint to management was answered quickly, and we were offered a room in building 1 which also has swim-up rooms. Building 1 connects to a different pool which also has a swim-up bar and various activities. However, the walking distances associated with Building 1 were too great for my wife to deal with. Although the two-tier guest issue is annoying, the big problem is the absence of stair/ramp with railing access to all the pools except the pool now designated Prestige only. We would have been happy with Building 3 on our first stay (and subsequent stays)if my wife had been able to get in and out of the adjacent pools. This would also be a cheaper option than a swim-up room. We will not go back to this resort useless the pool access issues are solved. Over the course of our two week stay, we talked to several other guests who had the same problems/concerns.
On the positive side, the food and other services at this resort are very good. The service and cleaning staff are great and the rooms are comfortable. The new management has opened a 24 hour cafe that makes getting coffee and snacks quite easy. As well, there is a new system for obtaining drinking water in which guests can fill up a container at convenient water stations rather than relying on the delivery of plastic bottles. Although this resort is not a "night-life" type of place, the nightly entertainment has improved. Apart from the access issue, the pools are clean and well-maintained. The beach however is small and is plagued with the seaweed problem that is an issue for many resorts in this area. Of the 5 times we have been to this resort only twice have I been able to swim/snorkel off the shore without seaweed issues.
In summary, we have enjoyed our stays at this resort in the past, but will not return unless pool access issues are resolved. We do not recommend this resort to people with mobility issues. We do not recommend this resort for a "beach" holiday.

WE LOVED OUR STAY AT PLANET HOLLYWOOD. IT WAS CLEAN AND WELL LAID OUT. LOTS OF RESTAURANT CHOICES WE AVAILABLE TO US. WE STAYED ON THE ADULT SCENE SIDE AND WE COULDNT BE HAPPIER WITH OUR SWIM OUT AND KING ROOM. THE ONLY COMPLAINT WE HAD, AND IT WAS OUR FAULT FOR NOT RESEARCHING THE VENUE A BIT MORE, WAS THE LOUD ENTERTAINMENT THAT WAS HAPPNED EVERY EVENING UNTIL 11PM AND AT THE POOLS FOR THE BETTER PART OF THE DAY. Dreams Sapphire Resort and Spa: Wonderful Staff!
Great family resort with exceptional food for an all inclusive. This is an older resort that needs a bit of revamping….new building Indigo is beautiful with large rooms and beautiful ocean views. Make sure your travel agent books the correct room. Preferred club is NOT the new building as had been confirmed prior to our trip. We ended up paying $600.00 US to upgrade. Very dissappointed with travel agent as this was confirmed by email prior to trip! Roof top pool is amazing with staff (Vict[... read more]or, Israel) being very attentive.
