Villa Tortuga: Good vacation
Good food, good service, good drinks, nice beaches. Food was good. Rooms dated but clean. Staff great. Entertainment was great. Good hotel for budget minded people. We changed three rooms to find an acceptable one.
Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Real Cuba creeps in
The resort is quite stunning, the beach beautiful, weather amazing. Unfortunately all this is in Cuba. We were dinged for 80$ leaving Cuba as somehow, magically, my bag weighed 7 km more. This happened to many passengers but I had not bought anything except small trinkets. Many Cuban men are rude and macho. If you have a problem they get aggressive instead of helpful. And good luck trying to find a female hotel manager; there aren't any. So much for their revolution for equality.
Sirenis Tropical Varadero: Good Value and Pleasant Resort
I loved the experience here. The resort was older but well kept. The staff pleasant and very helpful for a woman travelling alone. As always the food was sufficient and much the same. But that is Cuba. The stand alone restauants were excellent and the staff helpful. I had the best tour of Havan with a tour guide arranged by the hotel. Thanks
Starfish Varadero: Good Value - Beautiful Beach
This resort was a good value for what we paid. The food was good and as expected for Cuba. Bungalow was very spacious and located close to the beach. Palapas were plentiful and we had no issues at all with the AC. Water temperature was not the greatest, seemed to take a long time for it to heat up to luke warm. Other than that we enjoyed our stay.
Mar Del Sur: A place to sleep. Good location
I enjoyed my trip very much. The hotel was a two star for sure. We did like our 1 bedroom apartment with balcony and fridge. It was run down but we expected that. We were on the main resort block 12 room 108 first floor. The food is not very good at all. We ate two times at the hotel and the rest of our meals were at the restaurant nearby. (Salsa Suarez) awesome lasagne!! People were overall friendly at the hotel.
Starfish Jibacoa: great resort
This resort was well kept and had a small town living feel to it. You never feel like you are crowded by people, very nice for a quiet relaxing vacation. Not a resort for the night life, just enjoy the peace and quiet and the friendly staff. The food was good, but for the really good food take a walk up the hill and find the little green house lobster supper $10.00 best deal I found. beaches were cleaned every morning and the snorkeling was a lot of fun.
Punta Peninsula Varadero: Nice resort but infested with mosquitoes
The resort is pretty and has nice amenities good location beautiful beaches and perfect weather but the bugs will carry you away. The pool and the grounds around the pool were not kept up very well either. Most of the staff were great but a few were very unpleasant. Clean pool towels everyday seemed to be a problem foreople too. Our grandchildren came home covered in bites even after requesting the rooms be sprayed. Sheets should be changed daily too but weren't . Not sure we would go back.
Resonance Blu Varadero: Mixed Feelings...Spring Break!
Beach and pools were great. Rooms OK each had small issues. Food was so-so, always out of something. Resort is very big, look out for electric carts - hey will come close to hitting you! No evening adult bar - over run by drunk 14-17 year olds every where - March Break. Found no difference at any bar whether as an adult you tipped a bartender or whether you were an intoxicated 16 year old
Punta Peninsula Varadero: Resort was ok; food, drinks, beach and weather : )
The Blau Marina needs some TLC. The resort and grounds were just ok. There were tons of mosquitoes and towels for the beach arrived on day 3. The weather was hot with a nice breeze. The drinks were great and the wait times were decent. The beach bar mojito's were the best and the coffee at the main lobby bar was super! The beach was beautiful! The staff were not as friendly as we are used to. There were lots of food choices and the Italian restaurants was the best. The Spanish was good and the C [... read more]
Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Very Nice Resort...
There was something here for everyone, lots of activities, the pool was very nice. The beach was awesome.... We can't say enough about the staff, they were first class!!! Always very friendly and helpful. Entertainment was fun everynight. They have a great set up for their nightly shows .
Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: Allmost perfect
We went there in the beginning of March with another couple (friends), and we had a fantastic time. This hotel is beautiful, right on the beach, the setting is idyllic, small 3 story buildings with lots of vegetation and flowers that gives you a little village feeling and not of a hotel. For our taste, the food was very good and diverse, and the rum is exceptional (specially the old one, over 12 years!). The rooms and service were good, it could be improved - but in all fairness, once we called [... read more]
Paradisus Varadero: Good Resort but many improvements possible
PROS: Excellent beach, nice spacious rooms with excellent air conditioning, good food, huge and beautiful pool with nice palm trees. CONS: Watersports are closed frequently and no windsurfing is allowed unless there is absolutely zero wind and you can't move at all. They frequently use the raw meat tongs to flip the cooked meat and to put the cooked meat on your plate. No facial tissues in the rooms which means you have to clean you eyeglasses with the scratchy toilette paper. The Pina Coladas w [... read more]
Grand Memories Varadero: Nice place but not worth it
This resort is big. And could really be a nice resort! But food was sad to say the least. Cold and not a very good selection. If not for the omelette guys in the morning and the bread! I would have starved! I have been to Cuba before but this was the worst, even the drinks were sad, Never enough chairs. If you didn't reserve a chair by 8 am. Forget about shade! Also the beach towel exchange was never open. Had to use the same beach towels all week, Check in was painful. We arrived at 11 am and l [... read more]
Playa Caleta: a very enjoyable resort
i enjoyed my stay the staff was very friendly and helpful the rooms were very clean the food was okay the beach was beautiful the grounds were kept clean the only problem was exchanging my money very nice resort for the price
Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Paradise at the Paradisus
Paradisus Princesa del Mar is a lovely resort for people looking for a quiet, peaceful, nice vacation. Hotel grounds are well kept and appealing. Would recommend to those aged 35+. Not too big, but has everything you need.
Punta Peninsula Varadero: Amazing vacation!
Quite, great and friendly staff service and surprisingly very good food. If one closes his/her eyes to the usual Cuban issues (towels, hot water, soap) Blau Marina - CAYO LIBERTAD is one of the most amazing places and experiences. It is placed at the end of the peninsula where sunset in and sunrise can be experienced in a unique way. The water, the beach are also fabulous.
Palma Real: good resort
dining area was clean and well organized. Staff very clean. Selection of food was fine. We moved once to a different room because of the loud music at night. Rooms were clean. The air conditioner only worked on full blast.... which was far too noisy. The beach was great and the waves too... went bathing in the ocean in the morning and also in the afternoon. Unfortunately people throw away so many of the plastic containers... garbage cans available but no big signs about clean-up. One person coul [... read more]
Resonance Blu Varadero: Average to good value
First time to Cuba. I thought the hotel room was adequate. It was large, clean, the bed was comfortable & the AC worked flawlessly. A bit outdated- the faucet was too close to the edge of the sink, so water pressure had to be high to avoid sprinkling, and the bathtub was so high, we had to use a step stool to enter. Not really complaining though... I just thought it was quaint. Cleaning staff (Belkis) was simply amazing. The grounds were well manicured, but some golf cart drivers need customer s [... read more]
Los Delfines: Good value for an Enjoyable vacation
The grounds and room were clean and the staff was courteous and friendly. The mattress was a bit uncomfortable but I slept like a rock anyway because of the beautiful sun and lots of activity. The food was a bit repetitive but there was always something edible and there are lots of reasonably priced restaurants within a 5 minute walk. The beach is one of the best I have ever seen and NO sand flies! You can walk for 20 KM if you wanted to. This hotel is right in the middle of the town of Varadero [... read more]
Sol Palmeras: Decent Resort
We had a nice stay at Sol Palmeras. Our room was nice and very clean, the beds and pillows were excellent. we always found something to eat at the buffet although repetitive and a little bland. The 2 a la carte that we ate at were very good. One big problem, they don't have enough beach chairs. It didn't matter if you were at the pool or the beach. If you didn't get there early enough to put your towel on the chair you would have to forget about it. The staff were very helpful in every way, over [... read more]
