to begin , i love cuba and its people, warm friendly country and i would not hesitat to recommend this resort, however, this particular resort is quite old (50 plus and is in dire need of repair, lack of hot water in some bldgs. the pool has only one depth, (3 ft) the beach has a wall of sand to several feet and difficult to access , i feel if some repairs were implemented, this would be an excellent resort to visit, p.s staff were excellent

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Nice Resort
Nice and clean resort. communicating with staff in english was problematic. especially when trying to explain food allergies. but we were able to find someone who wrote down our concerns on a note and we would show the note to the chef's, cooks etc. overall, nice average place.

Grand Memories Varadero: Disappointed it has the Rui name
Grounds were beautiful, pool amazing, rec staff good. The rooms were ok but, service was terrible no clock in room, wake up times were never received,. Arrived at night had to find our building/room. Had to ask for pool towels then clean towels after 2 days, never got new pool towels our entire stay or new bedding. When's to an a la cart restraunt not the food on menu had to ask for drinks, buns even got the dessert wrong. If you didn't get to the beach by 6 you didn't get a chair. We have travelled every year to different rui's and was impressed by their standards for guests, this one definitely needs management leadership.

Sirenis Tropical Varadero: Great Time
I paid just under 1000CAD$ for the 8 day 7 night trip. The staff was extremely friendly (even though my money was locked into a broken safe for 2 days, meaning they received no tips from me until later on). When I finally went to the desk for the malfunctioning safe, there was an attendant at my door in under 10 minutes!
PROS: Food is good if you are adventurous! - tons of home made sausages, freshly cooked fish and local veggie/potato dishes. However if you are picky or want only mac and chees[... read more]e and burgers, this is not the option for you. (there are 2 buffets, one is always open the other seems to have a pickier schedule and was not always open for breakfast, the one located farther away is much better and almost seemed to be a resort secret as it is hidden away with the a la cartes.
Beach - gorgeous, volleyball court, tons of chairs and shady spots, bar was about 150m away with a nice shaded seating area. Always someone on staff during the day, very friendly will get to know you (especially if you bring them a cold beer shhh!).
Activities - catamaran 20 pesos, to go swimming with fish for 2 hours, photographer on site, small groups equip included. flexible times. tons of pedal boats and kayaks if you're feeling independent.
- Security guards will call a cab for you at the front.
- Representatives on site for excursions/restaurant reservations etc. every day
- Spa was lovely and clean (went for massages)
- Baggage room was conveniently located by the desk, locked.
- Great mix of people, adults, seniors, young people, families, couples, groups, etc.
CONS:
Rooms were quite damp so we blasted the AC to feel comfortable. I know 2 people who asked to be moved higher to fix this problem and it was no trouble, they were moved to the 5th floor that day.
Only one indoor bar (lobby bar) - this bar was usually pretty packed as it was little and the service was not particularly speedy but tolerable if you chatted with the barista ladies. However there was a day of bad weather and it was unbearable/ridiculous since it wasn't meant to accommodate large numbers (they did bring in two extra staff members almost immediately though).
Bus shuttle to airport was very late.
Only one location served snacks 24 hours and the menu was limited.

Memories Jibacoa: The people who work here make the resort amazing
Very average resort, it is clean and well kept. The food was average, better than expected. The entertainment and activities were excellent. We enjoyed the hike in the morning, hobbicat sailing with guide twice, tennis lessons three times, car racing on the beach , darts. Off the resort we were set up by staff to go to Havanna, the crocodile reserve and bay of pigs all in a 1951 cadillac with driver and english speaking guide ,a great experience. There is an ambundance of loungers on the beach a[... read more]nd pool and there was never a problem getting lounges for our party at any time of the day. Playa Caleta: Loved this resort last year but.............
Compared to last year, we found quite a few things were not as kept up as they should be. All doors on public restrooms were broken, no toilet paper, soap or hand towels available 99% of the time. The food was not as good this year, but certainly acceptable. Small things, like the floor in one of the elevators was a mess and there were leaks from the ceilings in the hallways. Otherwise, the staff was wonderful, the beach, pools and grounds beautiful, our room was clean and well stocked. It would[... read more]n't take much to spruce the place up. It's too bad as we heard many guests commenting that they would never go back and it's a toss up whether we do. It was going to be our "place to go", now not so sure. Next year it could be much worse if they don't put some work into it.

Hotel Los Cactus: Excellent Resort
We booked and stayed at Breezes Jibacoa beginning Feb 28, 2015. Upon arrival at the airport in Veradero at 6:30pm, we easily found our van and driver that was there to take us to the resort. We quickly found out that pedestrians do not have the right away! It was a short 45 minute ride to the resort.
Upon arrival at the resort we were greeted by a very friendly lady at the front desk, who said 'Welcome Home'! Check-in was very easy, taking only minutes, I am sure it helped that we were the only[... read more] guests arriving at that time. The bellman quickly took us to our room, showed us around the room, light switches and how to operate the air conditioner, making sure we were comfortable before leaving.
Our room was fabulous, very clean and in excellent repair. We paid for an ocean view upgrade, the view was absolutely stunning and only steps from the beach. We were in building 10 (2176), top floor (2nd floor) in a corner unit. Our only minor complaint may have been the loud air conditioning unit on the building next to us. A small coffee pot was supplied in the room, we loved being able to get up in the mornings and have coffee on our patio with a view. Our chambermaid, Alyse, was incredible. Friendly, welcoming, accommodating and very grateful (without expectation) for the small gifts of pecos, clothing, perfume, personal items, toys etc. that we left daily. It seemed that our comfort and enjoyment was a priority for her.
The resort was quite small, easy to get around to anything, we loved it. The grounds very nicely maintained, the gardening staff as friendly and helpful as any other staff there. It is in a very safe country area, totally safe to leave and walk around outside the resort, the farmers and locals exceptionally friendly. Many area residents had tables set up in front of their homes selling jewelry and different souvenirs. A couple of the homes had small restaurants set up at the front of them, great food. We enjoyed a night of lobster and shrimp dinner with one of those locals named Armando.
When we first arrived we found the evening buffet food horrible, stone cold and tasteless. However, the food at the beach bar was very good, we had lunch there each day. The waiters there were awesome! Breakfast was always good, an incredible guy making omelettes and eggs to order. After our second day there, we noticed several 'official' looking new faces running around the resort, carrying papers and on cell phones. We heard from other guests that the resort had been sold and was taken over by 'Memories', which is owned by Sunwing. I did speak to one of the ladies after a much improved buffet dinner, she told me she was from Montreal, Canada and was there to improve the food and resort, she was glad we saw improvement in the food and would pass the message to the chef's, stating they had brought in a new chef from another resort. We were happy that she appeared to be very nice and friendly not just to guests but also to the existing staff. Another skinny little fellow with glasses that was with her a lot (they appeared to be a team), didn't seem so nice to the staff, and paid no acknowledgement to the guests. We would often see him gesturing to the waiters, waitress's and other staff to smile. He would have done well to lead by example and smile himself.
The beach area was very nice, somewhat rocky in some areas. The days we spent there was very windy, mostly starting around noon. The best time for snorkeling or swimming was in the mornings. Once the wind came up there was MANY jelly fish, Man of War, washing up onto the beach. We saw many people who were stung, the resort nurse rushing them into the hot tub, apparently warm water stops the stinging and pain. The one life guard was kept busy trying to get people out of the water. They would warn people over the loud speaker that the jelly fish were coming. You could actually see them glistening in the sunlight on top of the water, coming towards shore, their sails being blown by the wind.
A highlight of our trip was a ride in an old car for a day tour of Old and New Havana, and other attractions in Havana. We got hooked up for this by one of the staff at the resort. It cost us only 70 pecos for a driver and an English speaking personal tour guide. They made our day amazing and we would highly recommend.
On our 3rd day, we were approached by the resort staff to take an offer of going to another 'Memories' resort in Veradero, it would be beautiful they said. We declined, as we liked our resort and area very much. They said that this was a special offer, only available now to us because of the new affiliation with Memories/Sunwing. They said it was an opportunity of a lifetime, and at no charge. The following day they began to pressure us more, approaching us several times. Later that evening they intensified the pressure, asking us again and again to please consider moving to another resort and help them out as they had overbooked the resort. Again they promised how wonderful it would be, and everything would be taken care of including transfers there to the new resort and then to the airport to catch our flight. Unfortunately in hind sight, we accepted their offer of an even better experience. That is where our trouble began.
We packed up and left the next day. In addition to us, there were about 6 or 8 other guests who also took the offer. We were loaded onto a bus and transported to Memories Resort in Veradero. The moment we stepped off the bus we all knew that we had made a mistake. It was a horrible experience from start to finish, and not a nice way to complete the vacation. The staff at Jibacoa would do well to understand where they are sending their guests, then they might not do it.

Starfish Varadero: Beautiful Beach!!!
Overall we had a good vacation, but i will never return to this resort and i cannot recommend it to my friends. The hotel rooms reminded me of a communist hospital and it was totally worth it to pay extra and upgrade to the bungalow. The food was ok, in a sense that i was able to find fresh fruits at all times. The buffet smelled pretty bad, the tablecloths were dirty, not inviting at all (i was never excited about meal times).
The beach was perfect, the weather beautiful, and the ocean calm. I [... read more]was able to take a kayak every day and be on the ocean by myself. My expectations regarding the beach were exceeded but everything else was underwhelming.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Memories Varadero :)
This is the second time my wife and I have traveled to Memories Varadero, (Feb.20 - 27, 2015) and all I can is that once again the resort delivers. Amazing staff, beautiful grounds and room. We were in building 34 this year with an ocean view room on the 3rd floor. We had a fantastic maid named Ashley who we just fell in love with. The rooms were very clean, ( we prefer always to book 2nd or 3rd floor ) and the beds are what they are low to the ground and firm but comfortable. Extra pillows are [... read more]in the closet. Melia Las Americas: The hotel, dining, service and grounds are awarage
I would rate this hotel on over all a 3 star hotel and over priced. In my 50 years of traveling, it was the first time that I did not go into the ocean, because the waives were too high and in fact, 60 per cent of the guests did not go in either. The pools were freezing cold. The are way too many steps on the grounds. The overall service attitude is not conducive to my expectation and many of the other guests that I have spoken to.

Iberostar Selection Varadero: Amazing vacation
We were overwhelmed at how wonderful the staff were at this resort. The hotel was beautiful and super clean. The grounds were beautiful and the beach amazing. As expected given where we were the food was not terrific but still ok. The only complaint I have is we had ants in our room - this was NOT significant enough to put a damper on our vacation. We had an amazing time!

Hotel Bella Costa: Amazing beach
Terrific time at the beach from March 4-11. The location on the water was perfect, only a five minute walk. The beach grill was okay, pizza and ice cream for the youngsters.
The mini disco at night was fun for kids but daytime activities were lacking but no matter, they made sand castles or floated in the large clean swimming pool.
There were well trained professional dancers at the evening shows but after the third or fourth shows it was all the same.
Of the three restos, we enjoyed the Japanes[... read more]e the most.
The rooms with garden view were clean with comfortable new mattress.
Slept soundly with earplugs after a day of playing at the beach.
All in all 'twas a great vacation. When asking the youngster the best part, surprisingly, it was the jacuzzi plus friends.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Enjoyed my vacation!
The hotel is getting a little run down, but overall I had a great time. Our rooms were clean, though a little musty from the weather. The food was decent since I had prepared myself for what people said about the food in Cuba! I always found something to eat and did find some enjoyable food. The Italian and Japanese a la carte restaurants were good. The beach wasn't the beautiful white sand beach that everyone has raved about, it was okay. The pool and swim up bar were awesome, lots of activitie[... read more]s at the pool. The entertainment was great day and night. I can't say enough about how friendly and helpful the staff are, both resort and Sunwing people.
