Bahia Principe Escape Runaway Bay: Average resort - not bad but not great
We ended up upgrading to a "Seaview" room when we checked in... and we're glad that we did! Our friends that we travelled with didn't upgrade and were quite unhappy with their room - definitely not a garden view! The view from our Seaview room was outstanding though.
Cleanliness - our room was very clean but the stairways could be quite dirty at times. Elevator on our end of the building rarely worked which forced us to use the stairs. Not necessarily a bad thing because we got to work off [... read more]all of the calories from the meals!
The food was good. I wouldn't say bad but I wouldn't rave about the meals either. Specialty restaurants were generally better than the buffet. Disappointed that there were no mangos or lobster/crab at any time... unless you went to the Lobster raft and paid $30 US per person.
The grounds were kept very clean and the staff worked hard to stay on top of things.
Entertainment staff were ALWAYS keeping things hopping. If you're looking for a quiet, restful vacation this is NOT the resort for you. The music at the "party" pool was always VERY loud and the bar was always lively - from sun up to sun down. Seaview rooms in buildings 25 & 26 overlook the party pool - so no afternoon napping unless you bring ear plugs. If you're looking for a fun, lively place this resort is for you.
Felt safe walking around the resort - even at night - lots of security discreetly around the property.
Overall - I wouldn't say anything bad about the resort. I don't think I'd return though... for the money we could have gotten more for our money in Dominican Republic or Mexico.

Ocean Coral Spring: Nice Resort!
The hotel is clean and spacious. The pool is large/nice and the grounds are well maintained. The food is good, service is excellent and staff are pleasant. The beach is not that good but the overall facility makes up the difference.

Riu Palace Tropical Bay: Great resort, amazing beach
The hotel was great - recently updated, clean and comfortable with good facilities and an amazing beach. The hotel has the best location on the beach - gentle slope into the sea, no seaweed or rocks.
All of the staff were great - very friendly and helpful, from arrival to departure - reception, bars, restaurants, housekeeping, gardeners, etc.
Special recognition goes to the buffet restaurant staff - they were excellent, and very accommodating of my serious food allergies. Every meal[... read more], the head chef or his staff walked with me through the buffet, confirming which foods were safe or should be avoided, and if needed staff would prepare a special dish for me.
Only downside is the long drive from the airport - but well worth it for the beach (best in Jamaica, by far).

Riu Negril: 3.8 stars overall
First all inclusive in 3 years, and it was exactly what we needed. 1) Beach was mediocre. Lots of seating, which was great. The waters were calm as its more of a bay, but the bottom of the bay felt sludge-y on the feet. Cute fish were seen and a 2ft shark. 2) A few pools to chose from, which was nice if you wanted a non-busy pool. 3) Food was good, lots of variation every day during lunch and dinner. We weren't overly impressed with the à la carte. It was first come first serve basis. 4) Entert[... read more]ainment was mediocre. MJ night was good night, live band and reggae nights had great music. 5) Rooms were what we paid for. Cleaning took place every day. Overall, we would rate it a 3.8 stars.

Iberostar Waves Rose Hall Beach: Disappointing
Went for my dad's birthday paid for decorations and it was put together so poorly that it lasted 10 mins and no one would fix it.
Coffee machines were always broken, ice cream store ran out of chocolate and vanilla for 4 days. I have been to this resort 4 times and it was really good but post COVID I will not go back. Buffet had 50% less things than before. Overall very disappointing, they got rid of ginger ale at this resort as well, not Iberostar standard.
They were always running out[... read more] of Beer, but it was an overall disappointing experience from when I was there in 2019

Ocean Eden Bay: Good Resort
The hotel and resort in general was good! We had fun during our stay and enjoyed the excursions. We did experience some minor poor service by couple staff, but I am sure they will improve on that overtime and there is no concern for future visitors.
The beach was not the best, too much rocks, but you can work around areas and enjoy the water.
I would recommend this resort to anyone who would like stay at this resort!

It's a beautiful resort, very clean; you can access the beach from so many different areas of the hotel. Easy shuttles to Margaritaville and airport. The drinks were great. The food was not very good very bland, not much variety.

Overall experience 10/10. It is a smaller resort of the three Riu. However, staff is exceptional and friendly. Food was sometimes too salty but still overall really good, great selections and awesome drinks. Definitely would return again!

Couples Sans Souci: Excellent Beach Getaway!
Beautiful resort with waterfalls, private beach amazing views.
The food and service are excellent, every room is modern, comfy.
Low guest count therefore never fighting over beach chairs, no lines. Very calm resort but with enough nightly entertainment.
I would only want a different variation on entertainment , it was only live music while we were there, sometimes some sort of show would be nice to see.
If you can get past the 1.5-2 hour long drive, its 10/10.

Ocean Coral Spring: Worst resort I’ve ever stayed in
I traveled with my husband, a 2 year old and a 9 month old baby.
For the service: After the check in, nobody informed us about the operation of the resort. When you are looking for information, each person gives you a version. We were told that no reservation is necessary for the restaurants except for the buffet and Sakura. On the other hand, when we decided to go to eat elsewhere than in the buffet we were refused because we do not have a reservation. Or because they are the privileged one[... read more]s who are only allowed to eat before 8 pm. I found it ridiculous that a number of people have more rights than others for an all inclusive resort. They try to force you to upgrade to their privileged plan.
For the rooms: we were given a room without air-conditioning, without dryer, steamer. We called several times to get them and to fix the AC, but without success. They changed our room when I finally told the lady that I will stay in the lobby with the kids until they fixed the AC.
Our flight was delayed for more than 7 hours. When I went to check in, I asked for accommodation like a late check out because I couldn't sit in the lobby with 2 kids for 10 hours. The gentleman at the front desk told me that they don’t offer late check out and that if I want to stay in the room I have to extend my vacation. I was shocked and thought that this was inhumane. However, on the way to the airport I met a couple on the bus who told us that they were given a late check out until 3pm. I guess because we are black, the treatment is different. Bunch of racists. I don't recommend anyone to spend their vacations in this place. Too much inequality and racism.

Dreams Rose Hall: Great Place
Was down there over New Years. No problems with the flights but I would recommend carry on and not checking bags. Heard lots of stories of missing baggage. Transfer from the airport seamless. Check in seamless. They can change larger US bills into 1s and 5s for tips. Bring some US cash. The resort was great. Rooms clean, buffet good. Went to the Caribbean, Italian and Seafood restaurants. All good. Pool was good. Beach was good. Sometimes the service was a little slow (but it is Jamai[... read more]ca). All good, would recommend

Excellence Oyster Bay: WOW
My husband and I stayed in Beach House 1 upper level for 2 weeks over Christmas.
Excellence is a must as you have two extra pools, lounges and restaurants you can use. Plus alot more room at excellence club beach areas.
As for covid protocols, Jamaica is like it never happened. Little to no mask use. No staff wore them nor guests. They did have hand sanitizer at the entrance to every restaurant and in all public washrooms with the soap. I didnt see any extra deep cleaning going on. Min[... read more]d you the resort was spotlessly clean in all areas. Soap and hand sanitizer always full.
Resort is stunning. Ocean views from all points at the resort. Beach house location is in a quiet area but leads to lots of walking to and from the restaurants and the theatre areas. Especially from beach house 1. We were beside the magna area and that was the only bonus to this location. If we return we would request a beach house more centrally located like 8-11. Golf carts were always quick to respond to our requests for one. House keeping did the bare minimum. Was not impressed with our housekeeping. Mini bar service was amazing. He always came through with whatever we wanted.
As for food and drink, we've had better. In 14 days we went to each and every restaurant and in all honesty we were at a loss as to which restaurant we wanted to visit for a second time. Food was all presented in a lovely manner, small portions, but in our opinion food was only good. We never went hungry. If we werent eating Jerk we found the food very bland. Breakfast was excellent at the Kitchen Table. Coffee there was excellent. French press coffee in the excellence restaurants just wasn't for us. Drinks on the beach were overly sweet most times and made with poor quality rum. No Appleton rum to be seen and we are in Jamaica for goodness sake. Evening drinks were of a better quality all across the resort.
We are big beach people and the beach was a bit of a let down for us. The beach itself was fine but the water was far too shallow and weedy to just jump in anywhere. There were only one or two spots where you could get into the ocean and have a decent swim. This is a deal breaker for us for future trips to this resort.
Finally the staff. What can you say they were all outstanding and very professional. They all had charm and charisma and bent over backwards to make your stay one of a kind. Nothing was too much for them. Anything we asked for we got. The staff makes this whole resort. What an amazing bunch of people. Because of the people we met in Jamaica is what makes us want to come back to this island.
Air Transat was amazing both ways. No delays, baggage came with us both ways and club class in our opinion is the only way to fly. Outstanding service comfortable seating, tons of personal leg and shoulder room and very personable flight attendants. Perks of this class are second to none.
To sum this up we did have a jamazing time here. The resort, the staff were outstanding. Would we go back to this resort, probably not due to the beach. Would we try another excellence resort, absolutely. Would we go back to Jamaica, in a heartbeat.

Couples Negril: Good resort at a premium high price
Generally very nice resort. A relaxing week - A lot of good, some bad, some areas for improvement. For the pricepoint, I would look elsewhere.
Background Comparison: We have travelled to 15-20+ Caribbean resorts over the last decade - usually aiming for good value (highly rated on tripadvisor at a good price). Usually that could be $1500-2500pp, so around $4-5k for two for a week. This was a weeks trip away for $7.5k as a comparison. We were excited for this trip - adults only get away [... read more]at a premium resort. The service is suppose to be top notch, great beach, great food.
Pre-arrival: 0/5. Emailed resort twice, no response.
Rooms: 2/5 Typical All Inclusive resort room and shower. Dated and old in some ways, but still functional. Was definitely expecting more based on other resorts that are newer and renovated. We upgraded to an ocean view but barely could see the ocean. This was a common problem and management said it was 'partial view - bend over the railing, turn your head and try to see through the trees and there is a little blue water". Meh, not impressed.
Drinks were not supplied daily in the room 3/7 days we had our fridge refilled, but filled out the card every day.
Beach: 5/5 Great beach, lots of lounge chairs, nice water and clear. Nice sand. Best feature of this resort.
Pool: 4/5 Good pool; stayed mostly on beach.
Activities: 3/5 Some activities were good, others didn't happen. There were issues at times - for example, karaoke night used WIFI which failed dozens of times during songs. It made karaoke night challenging with a song freezing every 30-60seconds. They had a couple of beach outings in the evening - buffet and also a bon fire (and musician) which were really nice.
Nightlife: 2.5/5 Smaller resort, less people. A diverse group ranging from newlyweds to seniors; but typically the night was over by 11pm-midnight.
Extras: 2/5 Scuba diving was suppose to be free but they changed their policy between when we booked and arrived. No communication. You must be certified to get free diving. If you want to try for the first time there is a cost. If you are certified and its been a while and would like a refresher lesson, there is also a cost. Night time dive - there is a cost. Mixed results on scuba due to the change in policy.
The second excurision was a sunset restaurant. Food/drinks are extra there and they let you know this in advance. We were told it was a few minutes to Rick's Cafe, but once there it was 20min walk so not very possible. I would pass on this 'free excursion".
The third excursion was a catamaran trip to some caves. Plus free drinks on your way back. That was cool and fun. Great job on this one.
Food: 4/5. Good overall options for food. There was a lobster night. Most apps were rushed out and pre-cooked so somewhat dry, overcooked. The rest was generally good. Steak options good.
Service: 3/5 There were some great staff that went above and beyond; and then there were multiple misses. They seem to be well staffed, just not all engaged.
a) running out of towels. How is this possible when you have 3-5 staff on towel watch - literally all day at the station but no one takes the dirty towels to wash.
b) drinks in room not delivered.
c) beach bar staff were generally rude, non-attentive, and it seemed they were angry at each other. Very poor on communication within themselves and guests.
Some people have been visiting this resort for 10-20 times! they love it here, and there are certain aspects where I can see why. For us, there are newer places that are better priced with more features and fun.

Grand Decameron Cornwall Beach: Extremely badly managed resort
Booked this hotel because of previous Pre- Covid good reviews and liked the idea of a smaller and more intimate feel all inclusive resort .
The most recent reviews are not to be taken lightly as they definitely reflect the true picture of what is going on at this resort !
Although for most part the staff do their best in what looks like difficult circumstances , entertainment team are fabulous !
There is a constant issue with basic requirements ie towels in your room are taken but ne[... read more]ver replaced ,towels are limited and run out quickly in pool and beach area , buffet has limited food supplies and staff seem stretched beyond limits so it’s hard to keep up with refilling ,and cleaning tables and seating families so queues are so long in the evenings .
Staff were actually physically fighting in the buffet area !
I had spoken to what I thought to be a manager on a daily basis about the frustrating issues of never having towels in your rooms and not alone with this one , always angry customers in reception area yelling about the same issues , but the problem was never resolved , so my feel is this resort is badly managed !

Sandals South Coast: Great resort, crappy airline
Hotel is impeccable. However issues at Pearson caused my girlfriend’s luggage to be left In toronto. Mine made it. Spending $12,000 on a vacation with no luggage for a female is a nightmare. And compensation is pitiful based on what needs to be spent to ensure she has make-up and cloths

Grand Decameron Cornwall Beach: Nice location and layout but rooms are not great
We had room on the top floor, the AC didn't work and the ceiling fan sounded like it was falling out of the roof. Our railing on the balcony was the only one in the hotel that was missing a support bar on the outside of rail.
We asked at 9 am to change rooms and were told we had to check out at 11 am. We were the first on the list to get a room and it would be ready for noon. I said I did not want to waste the day waiting around and asked if we could have one sooner. The girl then said we woul[... read more]d have to wait and check in at 3 pm. We left our luggage in our sisters room and went to the strip to do some shopping. When we got back there were several people in line getting rooms assigned. I asked for mine and was told check in was 3 pm. (It was 2). The ported (great guy) asked if I was ok and I told him my problem. He went to speak to her and she yelled and smacked her hand "3 PM CHECK IN FOR HER". I told him she was just being difficult and didn't like me. He went and told her to give me a room .. she literally reached behind the desk and threw keys on the counter. The porter took us to our room!!! She was horrible....
The new room had black mold on the inside of the curtains but I didn't dare ask to be moved again so we stayed away from the curtains!!!!

Ocean Coral Spring: Perfect vacations
The resort was perfect for us. The staff was amazing, the service was good, the food was good, there was a lot of things to do, the restaurants were good and there are many of them. Our favorite was the Indian restaurant. There are 2 beaches and the one on the right was beautiful. The other one was a little Rocky. We Enjoyed the lazy river everyday. Grand Palladium Jamaica: Great facilities
The facilities are excellent the service is a little lacking compared to other resorts. The food quality is very good and the variety of food is good as well. The resort charges extra for even room service which was a surprise. We stayed in the Jamaica part of the resort which is newly renovated and the rooms are very nice. The beach is very small almost non existent . The front desk provides wrong info regarding booking restaurant reservations.
