Melia Internacional: Above expectations

Beautiful resort, only 3 yrs old It is massive so if you are looking for intimacy this is not the resort for you. The place is immaculate as evidenced by the public washrooms Buffets and bars have outdoor seating so you can enjoy the warm climate. All rooms have ocean views so you needn't pay the extra premium for ocean views. Sitting on a narrow peninsula rooms on the so called garden views actually have views of the ocean on the other side of the peninsula. Smokers will be thrilled as s [... read more]moking is allowed virtually everywhere ie outdoor patios and balconies. Suspect this is done to promote Cuban cigars. All currencies are acceptable ie Canadian, American and Cuban Pesos. There is a bank on site where you can purchase all of them. Suggest you avoid pesos, you can't sell them and the rate fluctuates depending on who you are buying from Beach is beautiful, clean, you can walk for miles in either direction and the ocean bottom is sandy and firm. Water is warm.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Beautiful resort

Beautiful gardens, beach and pool. Snorkelling was amazing! Gardeners at work daily keeping things neat and sweeping walkways. General public areas well maintained. Rooms were very clean. Yes, some food shortages on some days but not really an issue, lots to eat. The staff were amazing and so willing to accommodate. That more than made up for rooms bring slightly dated some fixtures about resort could do with a bit of maintenance. Public washrooms while clean( important factor) lacked some lock [... read more]s on doors or working hand dryers. A la cartes pretty good, lack of wine first week we were there but no issues second week. The few negative issues are not enough to keep you from visiting this beautiful resort.

Melia Las Antillas: Great Vacation!

We just got back from a fabulous and relaxing week at this resort. This was our 8th time in Cuba, so we knew what to expect concerning the hotels and food. This resort is tired and needs updating, especially the rooms and bathrooms, but it's clean, and the staff is friendly. I must say I was very impressed with the food and the buffet restaurant. We were not [... read more] impressed with the Cuban a la carte restaurant, so we didn't bother with the rest. The gym is small and stuffy, with very old equipment. The pool is clean, and the beach is stunning. The entertainment is ok, and the pool show is nicely done. Colon and Raul at the pool bar are excellent and so friendly. Wendy, Ana, Laura, Marilyn, Pavel and Cachito at the buffet were amazing. Lyonel at the front desk was great, checking us in and ensuring we were happy with our room. Robert, Ramon and the ladies at the outdoor lobby bar were outstanding. The animation team was a lot of fun. Canadians were hosted to appetizers and drinks the night before we left, which was very nice. We did find the beach lacked music. Most of the action happened around the pool. There was a shortage of wine, cava, and one day milk, but it's a problem at all Cuban resorts. Management does their best to accommodate you and are all very friendly. Overall it's excellent value, and remember you're in Cuba.

Melia Marina Varadero: Very Nice Property

We hadn't been back to Cuba in about 12 years because of the food, no improvement here. There were shortages of menu items and even Coke due to covid. The hotel itself was very nice, the rooms were as nice as any we've stayed in (4+ * in DR or Cancun). The beach was less than expected compared to Cayo Santa Maria. The service was pretty good but the hotel was only about 25% filled. The location is interesting with an empty marina and condos surrounding the property. Other issues WIFI not g [... read more]reat, we had no hot water for 3 days, it rained heavily 3 straight nights and there was a smell of sewage from the marina and swim up bar. We had a clogged drain in our room but it was attended to immediately. Beyond that better beer and rum than DR or Mexico. Basically was all we were expecting from post covid Cuba.

Is beautiful very clean, people are very nice, one disappointed with no wine and no fault of theirs , other than that very good, food was ok bring your own condiments , we brought gifts which is nice for them

Tryp Cayo Coco: Our 2nd home

We’ve been here about 8 times now. Glad there was only a few people brainwashed enough to still wear a mask. That’s why I haven’t travelled in 3 years. Staff were amazing as always with what they have to work with. I don’t dwell on the lil things they might run out of 1st time ever in all of my Cuba trips there was no spearmint leaves at all for Mojitos. Tried all 5 alacart restaurants and enjoyed it. Sol Palmeras: Fantastic resort

My husband and I were there at the end of February for our second time together and my 4th time. Love this resort. Everything is fantastic food,drinks,beach and staff. Have made special friends over the years and special thanks Odarmis for all her special touches, Caridad from the lobby bar and yaqueline at the Italian restaurant. We’ve been to various resorts in Varadero and this is by far the best! Will be going back in May.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Worst experience of my life

The single worst experience of my life. Where to begin????? Staff were lukewarm at best, with the exception of the lovely lady making omelettes for us for breakfast each morning. Roma we’re not cleaned during our stay, toilet paper was worth its weight in gold and scarce, air conditioning unit leakiest all night into our room and on the last day we learned that our room door did not need a key to enter.

Melia Cayo Coco: We loved the resort

We were happy with all aspects of our stay- clean room, friendly staff. some line ups in Cuba to get in and out but overall they did a good job with so many people going through. Some repairs due to hurricane but no worries for us. Grounds were clean- beautiful greenery.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Do not go here!

Constantly running out of food- food quality poor (and I have been to Cuba before, but nothing like this). We were told to convert our money to Cuban Pesos to find out they do not accept them anywhere (or do so with reservation). We did not get the room we asked for, the beds were uncomfortable, furniture was broken, smelled of mold. We had our towels replaced once. We never got even a bath mat. A couple of days we received no new water. The pool was under construction every day- r [... read more]emoving a structure or fixing something broken, hard to tell.

Melia Las Dunas: Great resort in Santa Maria

The Good: Food was quite good for Cuba, they had a variety of food and the A La Cartes were great as well and were fairly easy to book. The 24h grill had burgers, hot dogs and fries and was very good/convenient. The Beach was amazing and there were many Palapas for shade. The rooms were large and kept very clean. The grounds and the staff as usual were amazing. Beach towels were available and if you went at the right time, it was easy to replace dirty ones for new ones. Minor annoyances: D [... read more]ue to shortages, they would run out of Milk, Bread at the Grill, Plastic cups (bring your own and you are fine), Ice and some of their iced drinks.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Beautiful resort

Very clean throughout the hotel. Restaurants, pools, washrooms, bars all clean. Alla Carte restaurants good. Buffet not so good. Service is excellent, front desk personal friendly and when help was required with different issues in our room they were rectified immediately!

Paradisus Varadero: Beautiful beach

We stayed at Paradisus Varadero at the end of March 2023. A couple of things to be aware of. The resort has 3 booking options. Regular, The Reserve and Royal Service. We stayed at the Reserve section which is a bit more expensive than the regular one and the only difference is that we had a mini fridge and 2 beers + water supplied every day. A large dissapointment was that those who stay at the Reserve are staying far away from almost everything. Our AC did not work and toilet broke down the first day. These are the things we were not happy about. On the other side, the beach there is one of the most beautiful i’ve seen. The people working at the resort are amazing and everyone is always willing to help you. Taxi service is fast and it is easy to move around in Varadero. The food - buffet had almost always the same Food options. Chicken and pork was available most of the times. Overall a good experience, nice resort.

Melia Marina Varadero: Not as per expectation

Varadero is a good place and we expected a lot from the hotel as it was our first trip to Cuba, but we got both sweet and sour taste. Talking about the resort ,its a good resort located on the other side of the beach with a walking distance of 100-200 metres, with full on bar service. If you are an alcohol lover you are truly going to like the tastes of cocktails specially pina colada, the swimming area is good and well maintained, 24 hours snack bar is a good place to hangout. But the food of the resort is horrible.We stayed for a week and it was the same food all the days with just few add-ons/changes. The rooms didn't have sound proof glasses and we could hear all the noise inside the room. The inbuilt AC and the mini bar fridge created a lot of sound which was very annoying at night. Overall staff was cooperative but the food was a thing which led us down.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Another Amazing Stay!

We went for seven days in March 2023 on the Royal Service section. We were blessed with sunny days during the entire stay! We enjoyed their beautiful quiet and private beach. We also went to the main beach for snorkelling and for a catamaran ride. We started every day at the beach to finish at the pool. Both areas, on the RS side, are well maintained and excellent bar service was provided! Bartenders would go around to take your orders and would prepare the best tropical drinks! From mojitos [... read more] to piña coladas, all were delicious! At this resort, you will definitely find very good food and excellent service in all the restaurants! Even if beef, fish, and shrimps were not available, they always managed to prepare delicious cuisines. Their soups are so so good! Their hospitality were at the top! The entire area was well maintained and very clean! You will see gardeners working hard every day. The RS lobby is very well maintained and very clean. Our room service was impeccable; the maids with their beautiful art figures with the towels, the concierge people, and the butlers, with their quick response to our needs! From the jacuzzi set ups, restaurant and spa reservations, and to a variety of tips and advice! The bar fridge was filled every day and personalized according to our need. They have carts going around and the drivers are very nice and polite! What improved from our last visit is the communication about the daily activities happening at the main lobby. It’s now posted on a screen and accessible on the RS side. So, we did participate to a few this time around. What we missed, the classical and Cuban entertainers every evening on the RS side but it was okay, since it gave us a chance to connect with other Canadian travellers. Really enjoyed it! The entertainment was more at the main lobby and at the returned guests supper which is a definite must! We also went to the spa for a relaxing part of a day and massage! Aaaahhh... the best! Beautiful salted pool and private beach, it’s a must! The staff members are very kind and very attentive to your needs! We will definitely be back!! This resort is highly recommended! This was our third visit to this resort and looking forward to our fourth!

Tryp Cayo Coco: Nice place, rooms need updatingI th

Pools and beach were amazing! There were a lot of cabanas and lounge chairs everywhere you went. You didn't have to save chairs at 6 am with your flip flops. We got fresh pool/beach towels a couple times which was nice after they get sandy. There was great entertainment each night, you can always get a drink and something to eat 24 hours a day. The food is about what you'd expect, not the place for picky eaters, but you could always get bread and "eggs your way' at breakfast. Bring ketchup and  [... read more]peanut butter if you like them. There is no bacon or sausage for breakfast if that's your kind of thing. But there were some questionable meat/fish dishes and what you'd call chili. A few days there were potatoes like hashbrowns, one day there was french toast with syrup, and they usually had crepes made fresh. Cappuccino at the lobby bar was the place to get your caffeine fix although the "coffee with milk" in the buffet area was really good too. Lunch at the beach bar was pretty good, either a cheese sandwich, a hot dog on white bread or a proper meal of either Beef, Fish or Chicken with rice/beans, yucca and stewed cabbage. Be prepared for the response "uh, maybe tomorrow" with a smile and a shrug, if you ask if they have something or when the such-and-such will be open. Nobody seems to know or they have no way of knowing if they'll get hamburgers tomorrow for example. The resort was only at about 40% capacity so we were fortunate enough to be able to book 5 a la carte dinners at the restaurants. All of which were very good, although kind of similar. At least the kids could get pizza or pasta at 3 of them. A couple of days they made Churros by the pool and fries a few other times. Those were nice treats! The resort cats were adorable and hungry, we fed them all kinds of things, their favorite were the fish sandwiches from the snack bar at night. They even ate the cucumber! Do not take a ground floor room--Roaches.... we had to switch rooms the first night because of them. No questions asked, they did it right away. Rooms are very dated, the mattresses are from the 70's probably-- gross. The sheets and towels are clean and the A/C was ice cold in the room. We lost water in the night a few times because of the rain storms, but I think the whole island was out. You get what you pay for, do not expect a 5 star resort and you'll be fine. We took a classic car to the market and back for $15, and had fresh mojitos and lemonade while we were there from one of the stands-- so good! You can also walk, it's about 10 minutes or take the bus for $5 per person. Overall, we enjoyed it and the kids did too. They had lots of events for the kids to participate in, even though there were only a handful of other kids. Really good entertainment staff! We used the resort kayaks free of charge and there were also a bunch of paddle boats and a few small catamarans available too. We brought a ring toss game for the beach and pool floaties. I just wish they had more porters to help you with your luggage instead of dragging it all over the resort looking for your building, they could deliver you in a golf cart or something. We asked for one on check out day and he arrived a few minutes early with a giant golf cart, it was perfect, but we saw lots of people schleping their luggage all over the place all week. I think you just have to ask and tip.

Melia Buenavista: Peaceful haven

Gorgeous hotel with three separate beaches. Huge rooms with outdoor shower and deep soaker tub inside. Two pools, main pool with bar and pizza grill, and quiet pool. Staff are excellent throughout resort, and we had two awesome butlers, Joan and Rey.

Melia Buenavista: Great resort

Very clean, great beaches, friendly staff. Food is ok, not much variety. Not the staff’s fault in anyway. They really try and do the best they can. 3 different beaches, so depending on the wind, you can find a calm beach to relax.
