Casa Marina Sosua Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: CHOOSE SOMETHING BETTER
Summed up , NO If you like snorkeling right off the beach in crystal clear water that is the only thing this resort has going for it.
No Pool Bar
No Snack Bar
No Bacon for breakfast
No variety what so ever in the food at the buffet. Every breakfast the same and same things served for both lunch and dinner every day.
It was a good thing there was a Canadian Pub just up the street The Jolly Roger even had poutine if you can believe it .
Been going to the Caribbean every winter for 10 yea[... read more]rs sometimes twice a winter. Not the worst place I have been but defiantly the most disappointing

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Great resort overall
The resort is very good in general but some things can be good to know before departure. It's not a 5 star so some shortcomings are to be expected. It's all about perception and enjoying the weather under the warm rays of the sun.
Pros
Small property easy to walk
Maintenance done daily, beautiful well maintained garden.
Nice beach to take nice walks and very safe during the day. (A guard and a sign indicate that the place is no longer guarded at a certain point on the beach - Right side).
[... read more]
Safe to leave things temporarily on our chairs by the pool and the beach. Not heard any complaints from people who lost their things.
Good choice of food in general. (Not 5 stars but you'll find something for everyone.)
The chairs at the beach are very comfortable and there are also small beds available for customers.
The rooms are still quite comfortable and large and the patios are of good size allowing two people to be seated comfortably.
The employees are generally very smiling and friendly.
The hotel is close to the airport although we had to take a detour as the main bridge was under repair. The distance by bus is about 20 to 30 minutes in total.
The resort is perfect for children.
Cons
Food is not available at all times, which is a bit of a shame for people who arrive later. It is therefore necessary to know the opening hours. It would be nice to have a place for food at all times outside of certain hours for the buffet or a la carte meals.
The beach vendors are very very very present. They are constantly around tourists selling them things. Without being arrogant, they are present. Little tricks, for selling items and souvenirs, the small local shopping center has all the items in large quantities and the prices are better. It is a few steps to the right at the exit of the resort (5 minutes walk).
Smoking is allowed at all times, which is VERY unpleasant for anyone who doesn't smoke.
No elevator so people with reduced mobility must use the rooms on the first floor.
Employees are regularly in the rooms for cleaning, adding products to the fridge, etc. It is good but at the same time it is difficult to rest during the day. Provide a sign (DO NOT DISTURB) on the door.
The Internet is actually very weak in rooms and most places. For better service, go to the lobby.
Chairs on the beach is a challenge (Royal and Privilege section more) and on the edge of the pool. Be up very early to reserve your spaces. A little unpleasant for everyone...
Safe is free for the Royal and Premium but you have to pick up the key at reception. Plan an additional cost for others who do not have a plan.
Other interesting and funny facts
Our phone in the room hasn't worked all week. They came to try to repair it 3 times without success. So, no room service even though we paid for this surplus.
The rooms are ok but some things need some love. Wobbly closet doors, leaky toilet ;), phone not working.
Restaurants
A la carte - 3 in total
Grill (beach): Serve different varieties of meat.
Italian (cozy and airy): my favorite;), in the old part of the resort at the entrance
Octopus (Seafood): Pumpkin soup, yummm.
Premium alcohol are available at extra charge if not part of Royal and Premium package.
Lounge for Royal and Premium package is great with great selection of spirits. It is unfortunate that some are not part of the package.
They are all ok, not 5 star but still a nice variety. Casual dress is perfect.
IMPORTANT: You must book quickly because availability is unfortunately limited. Do this as soon as possible upon arrival.
Tips are not compulsory but obviously always appreciated by the workers. I recommend bringing $1 bills from your bank as they are quite rare at times.

Playabachata Hotel: Paradise!
We loved it here. The view from our room was fabulous and we absolutely loved the beach. There were palms for shade and open spots for sun - a perfect combo. The Dominican people were absolutely lovely.

Playabachata Hotel: Good resort
We were very satisfied with the hotel and the rooms. They were a bit old fashioned but clean, the beds were comfortable which was the main thing. It was nice to have quiet rooms and the building only 2 stories high. .It was a bit of a nuisance looking for chairs that were not broken either on the beach and around the pool. We were disappointed with the entertainment, it was the same thing every night except the dancers had different costumes for different themes. But we were able go to the ho[... read more]tel next door (Senator) which was good. The food was OK and had lots of choices so never went hungry.

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Resort is not good
The resort food is horrible. Absolutely nothing was hot. It is repetitive every single day. At breakfast time you could get a fresh omelet ihowever, for a 14 day stay there was only bacon available five of those days. The only fresh fruit you could get was watermelon. Very disappointed in the food for this resort. The 24 hour beach bar was absolutely disgusting. We were there for 14 nights and attempted to eat there in the afternoon and in the evening and the food was always dry if there was an[... read more]y food at all for a 14 day stay? We saw hamburgers once and they were cold and dried up. My wife got very sick and had to see the doctor for five days of our vacation and to try to get soda crackers was like pulling teeth. I ended up walking to , the mini mall to buy some for her along with Gingerale, as the resort only had Sprite. In addition, when I tried to go get something on the Buffet to bring her to our room to eat like plain white rice, they refused to allow me to take anything out of the Buffet area this is absolutely unacceptable. Housekeeping was hit and miss at best when they did come they would leave us one roll of toilet paper and two bath towels only as we notify them that my wife was sick and we wanted extra toilet paper, face cloths, and extra towels three days of our stay, They never even came to our room. Please note we left money on our pillows and gifts for the staff every single day we had to beg to get a bottle of water in our room and my husband ended up going to buy some at the mini mall because my wife was so sick. Would never go here again

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Great Resort
Having SunClub made all the difference. Personal check in with no line ups was so appreciated. We were not happy with our first room and they very quickly found us another one with pool view. Buffets had good variety and every week has the same rotation of theme nights
Restaurants have a good variety of choices for everyone

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Very Disappointed
The hotel is smaller than it looks online. The front desk service staff was not very helpful all. They seem to cater more to the locals visiting than to the international travelers. The staff in the buffet restaurant were friendly so i give them 10/10. On top of that our Air Canada rep was useless and gave multiple guests different responses when multiple groups contacted her regarding a complaint. Will not be choosing this resort or the DR again.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Very nice resort
First time staying at the Senator in Puerto Plata. We checked in really early in the morning and
we were given 4th floor - at 3:00am we schepped up 100lb suticases up all these stairs - NOT nice
But we realized that I think we had one of the nicest rooms - overlooking the pool area and we had a fan in our room. Not all rooms have fans -important to ask for this - We did however run out of water a few times - in the shower with shampoo on your head and the water stops - OMG finally got it t[... read more]rickling out enough to finish the job. Hot water also disapeared - a few cold showers ! Food was fabulous - people really friendly - the pool area lovelly - NOT enough lounge chairs - if you did not get down by 8:00 am to reserve a chair with your towel you are out of luck for the day
not enough chairs by the beach either - Entertainment was non existent at night we went next door to Playa Bachata - older resort but the bar night life was fantastic - we met the greatest people -
With all that it was a really nice time - but glad to get home because on the last 2 days I got COVID
Nobody's fault - Bahhhhhh

Playabachata Hotel: Disappointed
Former RIU resort is in disrepair. Needs lots of updating. Check in was terrible. Main check in desk staff were rude and not helpful. The transfer bus dropped us off at wrong lobby. We had to walk with our luggage to “correct check in desk.Rooms and furnishings were tired. We did have one incidence of roach in the room. We were assured the room would be sprayed but that never happened. No water pressure or hot water. Food was average. Usually just warm. Entertainment crew were enthusias[... read more]tic and put on some great shows. Some of wait staff in the restaurants were helpful and friendly. Not nearly enough lounges in pool area and none at the beach unless you dragged one from the pool area yourself. A lot of the lounges were literally falling apart and need to be replaced. We have visited the area and Dominican at least 10 plus times over the years and this was the worst experience. Will not return.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Overall Good
After reading many bad reviews we were a bit worried about this resort.
There were areas that needed improvement but nothing that upset our trip.
Hot water needs to be addressed resort wide as does basic maintenance and repairs.
Overall we enjoyed the the many amenities of the resort and the food was on par with other all-inclusives. We booked restaurants our first day with zero issue.
The frost bar was heavy handed on the alcoholic drinks and nothing tasted watered down as I had read in [... read more]previous reviews.
Kids club workers were excellent and interactive with our two-year old.
We were not even asked about purchasing time shares or bothered in any way by sales tactics.
The resort has plenty of options for pools, bars, entertainment, and food.
There are a lot of stairs but even with a stroller didn't mind it as we were prepared for this by the warnings when booking.
Upon arrival we were upgraded to a bigger room on the ground floor when they saw we were on the third floor with a young child/baby stroller without us asking at all.
Overall it was a good resort for the price.
As a budget-conscious traveller it was a great deal.
Lastly, I found staff to be friendly and helpful throughout the entire resort - everyone was smiling and happy to help when needed - customer service was excellent.
The beach was nothing spectacular so if you are looking for a great beach, this isn't the resort for you, though it was walkable and still beautiful.
Freddie our Air Transat rep was fantastic and available to assist when needed.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Great Resort - Bacon for breakfast!
Just got back from a week at the Senator
Good:
Service: Very good - bars, restaurants, front desk and Concierge. Shout out to Felicia and Ramon, our concierges. They did great!
Cleanliness: Never seen a more cleaner place! From your room, to the grounds, to all of the common areas, including the restaurants/bars.
Buffet: Bacon and eggs made to order, including omelets with all the ingredients, every morning at breakfast. Fresh juices too. Always had fresh salads, pizza, pasta, beef, chicken,[... read more] etc - all prepared well. For dinner, there will be a "theme" night usually - Mexican, Dominican, Italian, etc. You could always get some kind of lettuce salad - even for breakfast.
Ala Cartes: Japanese and Steakhouse were good. We ordered the mixed grill at the Steakhouse and didn't leave hungry.
Booze: Pool bar - hard to get a good slushy drink - just too hot for the machines to keep things slushy - we just drank beer and mixed drinks. The well dark rum was good. The drinks at the sports bar in the evening were great!
Challenges:
Lounge chairs around the pool are hard to get. Folks reserve them early. Lounge chairs on the beach are a little more plentiful, but we're not really beach people - too far away from the bar! You could find outdoor tables and chairs near the pool bar pretty easily. Shade hard to find, so be aware of that.
Was very good for the price we paid through Sunwing - $1,500/person for a very well kept, clean resort - one king bed room.

Playabachata Hotel: Manage your expectations
The room is clean, nothing fancy. The staff are great! Especially Domingo, Oscalena and Carmen. You can always find something to eat at the buffet and the statehouse is the best a la cate.
We had issues with our electricity. Yes the whole place went down twice but when everyone else got power back ours was still off. The air conditioning worked but not the lights. We waited 45min for maintenance and my husband who is a maintenance guy figured out a fix. There is no sparkling wine or labels fro[... read more]m home but the local alcohol is more than sufficient. The beach is beautiful and we had no problems finding chairs the first week. The second week the place got busy and we’d get up early grab chairs then go back to sleep. Overall we’d go back but not for 2weeks. I’d definitely book late January early February just because it’s quieter.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Definitely not worth the money
This was definitely the worst resort I have ever been to. The pictures do not represent reality. It states 468 rooms, golf on site, 4 poolside bars, a swim up bar, Private beach, a beach bar. These amenities are not for the 468 rooms (which are awful rooms) they are for approximately four times that number of rooms, there is literally not a square inch of space that has not been built on. It is attempting to Service way too many rooms, all of which are being left unmaintained. There’s no hot w[... read more]ater in many buildings, sometimes not even warm water sometimes no water. The power went out multiple times a day. The whole resort smelled of sewage the entire week; it appears as though they are pumping all of their gray water into the ocean.
Two people in our party got food poisoning on the fifth day, my husband and I both were sick when we got home for days. The food was not great, drinks were worse, getting a coffee and water at breakfast was twenty minutes every time!
The resort states it has 9 a la carte restaurants, unfortunately not just serving the 468 rooms but also for the resort next door as well as the VIP’s and the time share owners, so we managed to get 2 reservations at ones that were leftover basically as well as the time (first or last seating) for them for the entire week.
Our room was two double beds, a night stand, a table, one lamp, a closet with 8 hangars. There was no dresser, no luggage stand and no drawers or shelves to put our clothes in. We had requested a king bed prior to our trip and again at check in. The beds were hard and uncomfortable, thank goodness the air conditioning worked!
No wine was available anywhere except the resort next door at the lobby bar, dinner buffets and the “casino†bar. Not a real casino, just some slot machines. Also the only bar to have anything other than house red and white wine, sparkling rose and a white. The wine was served very sparingly, tiniest wine glasses I have seen - basically an ice wine glass.
