We will never return to this hotel and never recommend it. We stayed at this resort years ago and returned because the price was right. Unfortunately, that’s where it ends. Management does nothing to address anything, it is blatantly obvious they do not care!

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: The grounds are beautiful, but not a great vacation
I want to start by saying I have travelled to Cuba many times, I love it and know what to expect. This time, was sadly the worse. Stayed June 5 to June 12. 4 adults, 2 young hearted seniors and 1 with disabilities in a wheelchair. This resort is not wheelchair accessible. They do have lifts but they never worked. It’s a massive resort. We were there in what they called “low season” and only had 1 building open for guests to stay in so to change our rooms with mould and bug issues it was a proble[... read more]m plus, the building was so far away from everything! The man on the golf cart was great but waiting for him usually took anywhere from 30-75 minutes because of “Cuban time”. The grounds are very well kept and the resort is beautiful however it is cockroach infested. Not just in the rooms but even running on our table at dinner time. The food is Cuba, but after the cockroaches we really didn’t want to eat much. Thankfully we brought lots of snacks! The beach is beautiful but the chairs and huts are so far back from the water. The pool is nice but only 2 feet deep so you can sit but not swim in it. That was a bummer. The drinks were plentiful and yummy. Staff did their best to help our vacation be good, but I won’t return. We did a sunwing vacation, had to pay $70 each for checked bags, plus the flight attendant on the way back to Toronto spilled boiling water on my neck and face then was mad at me for mentioning it. We made the best of it, but I don’t recommend for anyone looking for something small. This is a massive resort with plenty of walking. Not great for people who arent able to walk and explore. For the price we paid, you can pay much less and get way better in Cuba.

Blau Varadero: Excellent Week at the Blau Varadero!
Arrived home on Wednesday from the Blau Varadero and had a wonderful time! The resort was beautiful - very clean and well maintained. The lobby area is serene and beautiful with the hanging plants and gardens! We upgraded to Select which was nice. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean and our upgraded view of the ocean and bay was breathtaking! The staff are hardworking and attentive. Besides the wonderful Cuban people, we come for the beautiful white sand beach and crystal clear ocean! [... read more] The food was plentiful and pretty good. We did not have any difficulty finding something delicious to eat. No notable shortages with respect to food or drink and no problem with wifi while we were there. The Select Clubhouse was a nice touch with snacks and upgraded beverages. We would definitely recommend this resort and go back for a repeat visit.
Our only recommendations to make this resort top-level would be with respect to the Select upgrade. At check-in, there is a separate check-in desk, but no one was sitting there and we had to line up at the registration desk with everyone else and then we were taken to the desk to finish check-in and receive a glass of sparkling wine. To make Select guests feel special, they should be greeted immediately and then directed to the separate check-in desk. Also, the Select area on the beach is no different then the other area. Perhaps some upgraded loungers with tables for your drinks. Also, we only had chair service at the beach one day, other than that we went up to the bar ourselves.
A special mention to our maid Iryas, who took good care of us. Our friend Javier, who gave us excellent service at the snack bar, beach bar and buffet. Yohanis in the Select bar, who greeted us with a smile everyday and made our delicious drinks. Finally, Marilyn at the a la carte reservation desk, who was very helpful and pleasant and Carlos at the Italian restaurant, who was always smiling and attentive. There are many more, but I did not get all of their names. Overall, a wonderful time at the Blau Varadero!

Iberostar Selection Esmeralda: Beautiful place, specially the beach.
The resort was nice, when we got there, I had to asked about "What happened to the welcoming with cocktails?" Then we needed to use the rest rooms, as we just came on a bus that doesn't have a toilet and it was 1.5 hrs of a rough ride; and when we got to the rest rooms they didn't have toilet paper, I mean non of the bathrooms male or female had any toilet paper. When I asked the reception they said " no toilet paper" very sorry about that " then they explained is because it is "OFF Season" w[... read more]e couldn't used our room's toilet because it wasn't ready until 4pm. We got there at 12:30pm. We managed to book 3 a la cart restaurants, we missed one, because we got our beach towel stolen the very next day after we got it, and I had to deal with the person in charged of security and he took awhile to come and see me to take the info about the issue. The second a la cart was the third day of our vacation and it was supposed to be the seafood restaurant, my fiance order pescado frito con arroz, (fried fish and rice) she thought it would be a full fish with fried rice and she was disappointed as the portions of fish were two tiny pieces smaller then sardines and maybe a quarter of a cap of rice. I order a tariaky pasta with beef, but it turned out to be very salty, all I could taste was salt, couldn't finish it. We end up leaving to the buffet restaurant to eat there, this turned out better. After this experience we didn't bother even to go to the third option. One day the beans at the buffet were not cooked well, hard to chew, other day they were spoiled and sour. I know Cuba is well known for the luck of taste on food, but this was for me one of the worst I had, and I being to many parts of Cuba a total of five times. This is rated 5 stars on the website, but I don't believe it should be, more like 3.5 *** The cleaning ladies were Awsome, the servers at the buffet were great, the bartenders were also great, the manager of the resort Israel came around after my complaint about the toilet paper issues, the beach towel incident and he turned out to be a nice and decent guy. I guess he found out that we were celebrating 5 years of our anniversary and he sent us a cake to our room, the third night we got there. We made some connections with a lot of the stuff members at the hotel and by the end of our vacation we enjoyed our stay. We made the best for what we had of our experiences.

4th time to Cuba and 1st time at Grand Memories Varadero. First night was bumpy as had to move rooms due to cockroach, but staff was empathetic and understanding. Had everything worked out by the 2nd day. Resort is nice, but dated. Food was plentiful and overall good - again having been in Cuba before, we knew what we were getting. Beach was nice, but a bit more rocky than our other resort.

Grand Memories Holguin: 2nd visit and even better than remembered!!!
This was our second visit to Grand Memories Holguin. We did not stay on the Sanctuary side only because it was off season and we didn't expect that there would be many children at the resort. We were right but you may want to consider Sanctuary Grand Memories if you need adults only. One of the advantages of Sanctuary is that you have access to the entire resort.
This hotel is relatively new and in great condition, as you would expect. That gardens are maturing nicely, and the facilities [... read more]are very modern. The design is very contemporary and while it's a large resort it is very easy to find your way around. The rooms are equipped with modern furniture, great beds, beautiful walk-in showers and large balconies. We had no issues with hot water and our A/C worked well.
This was our 10th trip to Cuba and the second time to the island this year. The food selection at Grand Memories was very good. Cuba always seems to have a primary protein on any given week and this trip we experienced plenty of delicious salmon. Having said that, we enjoyed pasta, chicken, pork, rice, lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, plenty of bread, pastries and deserts along with burgers, sandwiches and fries at the snack bar. We had plenty of selection at the various bars including white and red wine.
We had the upgrade to Premium Class which was MORE THAN WORTH IT. We had a-la carte breakfast and lunch at the premium class restaurant (which was nicely air conditioned) and an a-la-carte dinner every night, including a return guest dinner and a premium club dinner. The service was really good at each of our sittings. We also had access to the premium class bar, which was just off of the main lobby and it was nicely enclosed with air conditioning for those hot afternoons. The bar offered a great coffee assortment in the morning with pastries and a great drink selection throughout the days and nights. You need to meet Jose at this bar. He was amazing. Also included in Premium Class was two butlers. We had a daytime butler from 7am to 3pm and a night butler from 3pm to 11pm. Yosbel and Raciel were amazing and took such good care of us!! They were constantly checking with us to make sure all of our needs were met and they did a great job communicating with us and booking all of our dinner reservations. A big thank you to both of these men. Great job!
The pools at Grand Memories are plentiful and beautiful. They are clean and very well kept. There are plenty of shade structures although they are in need of replacing the loungers. Many of them were quite beat up and in need of repair.
The beach is amazing and the landscape in this area is very beautiful with rolling hills and mountains. The sand is beautiful, although arguably not as soft as Cayo Coco or Cayo Santa Maria. I would encourage you to take water shoes since the entry to the ocean is a bit rocky with scattered seashells but nothing to deter you from enjoying the beautiful beach and ocean. The water depth does drop off much quicker than we have experienced in the Cayos but it is more than safe for children and those who like to wade. There's plenty of beach to get your daily walk on and the beach is very deep with plenty of room for all of the guests to enjoy. The beach bars are well positioned with seating areas attached to the bars. Say hello to the best bartender, Ilianet, when you swing by the beach bar. You may also find her at one of the swimming pool swim up bars. She's the best! The beach has plenty of trees on it with a ton of shade to enjoy if you're looking to get out of the sun. The loungers were plentiful and in good condition.
We have zero complaints from our trip to Grand Memories and look forward to returning for the third time, maybe even this November.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Avoid at all costs!
The food was the worst I've ever had in about 40 all inclusive resorts. No chicken our entire stay. Most dinner items come out of a can or processed package. At the buffet they don't even turn on the steam tables, so hot food goes right into a cold tray.
Likewise with the drinks - 1/5. Lots of rum and whisky if that's your thing. No gin, vodka, limes, mint. None of the bar staff know how to make a cocktail, and the correct mixes for a cocktail don't exist.
Staff have given up, but, [... read more]there's always a hidden gem with a smile if they are not on their phones..
The beach - the water is nice, blue, and warm. The sand portion is awful. Full of dead sea grass and sea weed. The beach portion is not maintained at all.
Pools - well kept and nice.

Sol Palmeras: Won’t go anywhere else!
This was my 8th visit there, and it never fails to impress. There is always something better to keep me coming back.
The grounds are huge, and the resort is beautiful.
The facilities, unlike just about any other hotel, are always being kept up to date and renovated. Although the hotel is 35 years old, you would never know it.
The staff is unprecedented with its attention to the customers. There are still quite a few “founders” working there (staff that has been there from day one!)

Since my 2nd visit, when the staff recognized me and welcomed me back, this has become my vacation home. It would be crazy to try anywhere else when in Varadero.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Holguin: Beautiful resort
The resort was modern, spaces room. Service was ok. Need improvement on the entertainment, I been to most part of Cuba and this resort entertainment was not what I think. The schedule and location was confusing. Beach party is very night. It just a mini disco. No foam party unless I misread the entertainment schedule. The entertainment team seem inexperienced and new. I think in the future they will improve. Most of the guest go there they stay in the resort so entertainment is the only t[... read more]hing they look forward too. Beach is not like other part of Cuba beach. Lots of algae and rocks. Beside that the love the design of the resort. At the lobby you can always catch a good breeze so there hardly any mosquitoes, which is a major BONUS for me. Dining and food can be improve. As for drinks I normally don’t get what I requested but it’s not a big deal. I can have wine or rum and coke. I would rate this a 4 stars

Iberostar Selection Esmeralda: Wonderful resort
Visited from May 27 to June 3.
My husband and I spent a wonderful week at this beautiful resort.
Received a most friendly welcome by Israel. Check-in was quick, being only two of us.
Beach: Perfect – wide, fine sand, no weeds, miles long. Plenty of palapas and chairs.
Room: Ocean front, modern, roomy, meticulously clean, all in excellent working order. Love the screen door, enabling us to hear the ocean and get fresh air. Room numbers are lit and easy to find at night.
Pools: Looked nice[... read more], but not used, since we prefer the ocean.
Hotel Facilities: Well-appointed, easy to get around. No steps to trip over (great for elderly guests). Wide and well-lit walkways. Common areas are kept very clean.
Food at Buffet: Simply delicious. Wide variety. Food could have been warmer, and coffee better.
Bars: Quick, efficient, friendly service. Coffees were delicious here, especially the Spanish.
Landscaping: Lovely - gardeners are doing a fine job.
Special mention: A sincere “Thank You” for the special attention and perks given us on the occasion of my husband’s birthday. Thank you to the pastry chef who baked the most delicious birthday cake, for the bottle of wine, etc.
One negative: Music (if you can call it that) at the beach is way too loud and irritable. Base is too heavy, and could be heard far away. Why not play your beautiful Cuban music and songs? We loved your show and songs on Cuban day!
Once again, sincere thanks to ALL the wonderful people: waiters, waitresses, cooks, bartenders, cleaners, gardeners, etc., who made our stay at your resort a happy and memorable experience.
Would we return and recommend this resort? Definitely!
