Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Won't go back

This was once a great property however it has gone downhill over the last year. The air conditioning in the room was intermittent with no dehumidifier so the room was extremely damp, the sheets as night were cold and damp, there was an infestation of mosquitos. I have so many bites I had to go to the doctor. The beach had seaweed a foot high and 3' deep from the water. We were in the Golden Club with a priority exclusive check in, when we arrived we were left standing out in from of the main lob [... read more]by for 20 minutes with no explanation. They were waiting for a trolley to take us to the Golden Club, it should have been there waiting for us, our arrival was expected. The trolleys run with no apparent organization and the drivers don't speak English so getting around is extremely difficult. The 24 hour room service consisted of a snack bar that is open 24hours, no getting morning coffee & juice. When I asked I was told there is a coffee machine in the room with coffee mate, and I could get juice at the buffet, this is unacceptable for advertised 24 hour room service. The adult quiet pool by our room, had a bar open but they closed it and told us we could walk down to the snack bar for drinks, because no one was there the adults only was not enforced and we soon ended up with a lot of small children. The staff try very hard and are extremely friendly but very few speak English. The spa was one of the bright lights, it is very good. The food at the buffet has a good selection but the hours are difficult unless you are an early riser which I am not on vacation. It closed breakfast at 10:30am and didn't reopen until 12:30 for lunch with the only option being the snack bar in between. I'm not interested in eating a hamburger or hotdog for breakfast. They also have a very high pressure sales team for the Prestige Club located right outside the washrooms in the lobby, they are very aggressive and unrelenting. After saying no to the 90 minute presentation which was actually over 3 hours as we heard from several people who did attend, we had a note left at our room and calls to the room. I would not ever go to this resort again and I would no recommend it to anyone. It is operating at a 3 star level, not the 5 star as advertised

Iberostar Waves Tucan: THE BEST

This was the nicest resort I've been to. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The rooms and grounds were spotless. Beautiful animals and scenery to look at. PERFECT!!! The pool was great and lots of lounge chairs available.

Iberostar Waves Paraiso Beach: Good service

Only one thing wrong with this place; only one.....its big! Grounds, while gorgeous, well kept,and lovely are huge. Maybe that's too much for me in my early 70's but a lot of walking is required. Otherwise, and I mean it.....otherwise it's wonderful! First are the people: friendly, eager to please, good sense of humour and accommodating. Second is the resort itself: clean, beautiful (coati, swans, flamingos, peacocks and hens, etc) well laid out. Third is food: too much of it, beautiful presenta [... read more]tion, tasty, big variety. Fourth is rooms: marble floors, comfortable beds, great showers, spacious. Lots to do, beach is great but we hung around the pool. Good place for kids. Won't be back because of size; this could be a problem with small kids too.

Ocean Coral by H10: Good resort some issues

The resort itself was really nice - the rooms were well kept and clean. However the restaurants were difficult to eat at (they don't allow reservations but what they don't tell you is that you have to wait in line up to an hour to put your name on a list - yet it's not a reservation - just to be told you *might* get seated before the restaurant closes. This could have been communicated better as we specifically asked about making reservations at the front desk you were assured they were not need [... read more]ed. It was frustrating to be left wondering if you would get a meal or not at a restaurant you already paid for. Also the staff were friendly, but if you asked for any form of service - from a general question to a juice from the juice bar staff, you don't get a straight answer and often are left wondering if they will even come back.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: LOVED the resort

We enjoyed our stay at this resort and would go back without any hesitation. The grounds were beautiful! The food was very good in the ala carte restaurants as well as the buffet. The rooms were clean and we had no complaints with our accommodations. The beach area was the only negative of our trip but we knew that from tripadvisor when we booked.

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Excellent hotel- still some teething pains to over

Accommodations were superb as were the food choices. Staff were very gracious and accommodating and most issues were resolved quickly and efficiently. However, it does seem that most of the shade umbrellas are in the Diamond or Hideaway sections. I don't mind going down early to reserve an umbrella, but if there are few or none to reserve, that does become an issue. There were only 4 umbrellas in our section and at least 25 in the Diamond section. Granted they do pay a little more, but shade is  [... read more]a health issue for some of us. It should not be a money grab. Also the nightly turn down service was hit and miss (i.e. 3/4 nights did it happen)

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: For sure a 5 star!

This is the best resort we have ever been to. Cannot get over the cleanliness of the washrooms, buffet, ala carte restaurants and of course our room. The staff work non stop to keep everything so clean, it is amazing. The staff could not be more friendly or do enough for you, and the management went over and above while we were there to make our Anniversary a special day. Flowers in our room with champagne and fruit and they had even notified the restaurant we went to that night and they had cha [... read more]mpagne and a heart shaped cake for us. We were disappointed in the beach, rocky with lots of seaweed but that is nature, not the fault of the resort.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Nice Resort

Hotel was over booked so we didn't actually stay at Sa' an Kan. We were moved to the Bahia Principe Akumal, with no hot water and a broken air conditioner; however the food was delicious, service was excellent and the respect for the natural surroundings was apparent by the abundan of wildlife and foliage.

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Great resort

We spent a great week at the Azul Fives. It's a perfect resort for young families or those looking for a little peace and quiet. The grounds were beautiful, well-designed and immaculately kept. The serpentine pools ensure you are never more than a few steps away from a dip, and the kids' areas are well thought out. There's lots of beautiful flora throughout. The exercise room was very modern. The kids' club was extremely impressive - well stocked and staffed. The rooms were spacious with lovely  [... read more]terraces and balconies (and complete with crib, high chair, stroller, monitor, etc., upon request). The food was absolutely - and consistently - delicious. Room service was an enormous plus. Service was great for the most part, especially the front desk and concierge, which did their best to accommodate. A few draw backs: the transfer from airport to hotel took 1.5 hours as it's a private company that does the milk run before dropping you off; it's not possible to take out food from any of the restaurants, so you're limited to a small room service menu if your little one is sleeping; staff cleaning and stocking the fridge pop in 3 times a day and don't have much respect for privacy, simply knocking and walking in without waiting for a response (also asking to use the phone on repeated occasions); the beach is small and waters are rough (the red flag was up almost the whole week). All in all, a great resort and we would go back.

Iberostar Waves Paraiso Beach: Great time ......except

Clean, excellent staff, huge, great food, my husband broke his foot while we where there so we couldn't do any excursions , we really wanted to go snorkelling but he broke it on the 3 rd day so that was out of the question :( all we could really do was go to the pool, they did get us a wheel chair, thank goodness , they where very helpful

Grand Sunset Princess: Fantastic Resort!

Everything about this resort was top notch. This a big resort and everything is well kept and clean. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The restaurants and food was excellent. There are many pools to chose from and you could always find a swim up bar to enjoy drinks. The beach did have some kelp on most days but I am more a pool person, so it was not a concern.

Catalonia Yucatan: Great Resort

Very nice hotel. Food was decent. Very clean. The employees work very hard and are friendly. Must pick your lounge chairs for the day very early as people claim them as early as 5 am. The only negative is the beach. Not much of one.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: wooow

everything about this place is amazing, you have your own personal concierge in each building. it is very clean and you and don't even get me started on how good the food is. the only drawback about this resort is that it smells like sewage when you are walking to the beach but the beauty of this hotel and staff outweigh any negatives it has I recommend this hotel every person who wants to go to Rivera Maya

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Great value!

Booked this resort on the recommendation of a trip central agent who had been there.Though it wouldn't be classified as a luxury resort it is a solid 4/5. It loses points for mediocre beach.The rooms are comfortable and clean.No tub in our room but a spacious 3 x 8 ft shower stall. The food is very good for resort food- lots of choices.Coconut ice cream! Pools aren't overly crowded so swimming was great.Didn't swim in ocean.No complaints.Had a great week!

Selection Riviera Cancun: Sensational Riviera Maya Resort

Sensatori Azul Resort was true paradise for my husband and me during our one-week stay in early March 2015. Amenities and rooms are superb, the networks of pools and bars extremely well-maintained, the food delicious and the staff professional, competent and friendly. We appreciated having a personal concierge Yadi. While we enjoyed the 16-courses gastronomic dinner at LeChique, it's the Romantic Dinner on the beach served by Jose Luis, a dinner that was preceded by a bottle of champagne and fol [... read more]lowed by a beautiful surprise on our bed, that we enjoyed the most. We also appreciated the spirit in which activities and entertainment were delivered throughout the day and in the evening...kudos to Stephanie, Mario, Jorge, and many others!

Bahia Principe Explore Tulum: we would go back again

large resort, clean and the grounds were very well maintained with wildlife viewed everyday, good food and cool lower level buffet for kids, nice beach, great staff, even the lounge singer was enjoyable. Drinks strong. Room needed a dehumidifier but great view.

I know other travelers like to pick at little things to be dissatisfied with. The only unfortunate thing during our stay was that the beaches were too wavy too swim with our little ones and there was a lot of seaweed on the beaches each day. But we just stayed and played in the pools. The waterpark was simply amazing for our 2 year-old. She had so much fun on the slides everyday. Staff even went out of there way to bring us carton of milk for the little one's bottles. The food at the al a cartes were absolutely excellent. I had some of the best flank steak I've ever had at the Tequila (Mexican) one and at the Brazilian, the meat just kept coming until you flipped the card to red. The resorts grounds were clean and our room was as well. No bugs, no mold that other people have complained about. The resort is just really really big. Be prepared to take their tram buses everywhere, especially to the beach. Staff were always friendly and accommodating. Overall I would definitely consider returning to this resort if we travel again with our little one. If we travel alone, I might consider the Tulum resort or Akumal just to be closer to the beach and a little quieter.

Hyatt Vivid Playa Del Carmen: A Much needed Getaway

Four winter weary Canadians headed to the Royal for a much needed break. The couple we went with had been to the Royal before and recommended we go there for R and R. Turned out to be a great recommendation. From the cold towel and champagne when we arrived, the quick hassle free check in and excellent staff, we were in our room and into holiday mode within a very short time of arriving. The food was very good with Maria Marie getting the nod as favorite. Although the chef's table was a close second. The chef's table has a set menu, so a couple of dishes that I normally would not have chosen pushed this restaurant to number two. The food was exceptional and if the menu contains some of your favorites, you will really enjoy this place. The room service was very quick and tasty and offered a nice alternative when we were feeling lazy and just enjoying the room and relaxing. The main pool was quiet active with lots going on. There was a quiet pool if you wanted to get away from it all. There was lots of activities to take advantage of and nightly entertainment. One of great things about the Royal is its proximity to Playa del Carmen. A wonderful and safe place to wander around. Great restaurants, bars and cafes. Great shopping where you can find local souvenirs. Must admit, I feel Playa del Carmen is losing a bit of its charm. The corporate world has discovered the town and it is losing some of its local feel. Seeing a huge Burger King in small town Mexico is a bit depressing as is some of the high end stores that seem to be taking over part of the strip. A little tip, if you are serious about shopping then go to Cancun. Prices are better and more variety. Bargains are getting harder to find in Playa, although the remaining local merchants can still be counted on for a fun game of how much will you pay. Overall had a great time. The staff were all helpful and professional. You could not ask for better service from anyone. From the cleaning staff to the waiters in the restaurants to the concierge, everyone seemed to take pride in their jobs and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. Will definitely be heading back to the Royal in the near future.

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Could be amazing resort

Hotel grounds were immaculate. All staff were super friendly. All restaurants were very good. Nightly buffet was disappointing. Mexican every night. Would of been nice to have a Mexican station and some other type of foods. Beach was also disappointing. Never cleaned up. And very rocky. Rooms were clean but dark. pillows desperately need replacing. Our last night there Power went out in resort for 5+ hours and then again for 2+hours. No phone, Internet or tv when power came back on. Staff worked [... read more] their butts to please guests. Resort could be amazing. If a few of these issues were addressed.

JOIA Paraiso by Iberostar: Outstanding Resort

This was one of the best holidays that we have ever had. From check in to check out, it was amazing........our ocean front room with a king size bed was perfect, the food at every meal was outstanding, I had lobster almost every day, the beach and the waves we will never forget, the service was wonderful. I went for a walk every day, and felt safe and loved seeing all the different parts of all three resorts. The staff were all so friendly, alwalys a smile for us.
