Starfish Jibacoa: a cool holiday

The villa jibicoa was very clean and the grounds were very nice. Unfortunately we spent quite a bit of time in our room as it was very windy and cool. The pool was too cold to swim and the ocean was too rough to snorkel.

Club Kawama: Very good value for $$$$

Close to great beach , close to airport , walking distance to town (shopping and restaurants) , staff friendly and accommodating , kept clean grounds and pool area . Two good coffee bars, afternoon entertainment good ( aquatic dance , beach party)

Sirenis Tropical Varadero: Not amazing

Found everything poorly done Staff didn't do what needed to be done best people where the bar tenders . Rooms sucked and food but ocean view nice very poor maintance for ground area near exits No activities for the guest for during ge day best time would be in town in Varadaro

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Fabulous week!

We have just returned from a fabulous week at the Laguna Azul. Hotel is very clean and well laid out. Main buffet had a very good variety of food which was nicely presented. The A la Carte restaurants serve very good meals and staff are very professional and pleasant. Very impressed with the selection of fish, meat, chicken, pork and vegetables and salad! Hotel Blau Las Morlas Varadero Beach: Would return

We just returned form a week in Varadero staying with my husband and two sisters at this time. The place was beautifully laid out, the staff were very pleasant and friendly. rooms were clean and well maintained Entertainment was ok . We had a great vacation

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Resort itself is good

Did not expect so many kids. Food was always cold unless it was cook in front of you. Service was fair at the most. Ran out of different alcohol for cocktails. Room was nice and clean. Not for singles or couples

Resonance Blu Varadero: Great hotel MINUS the Bathrooms throughout

The resort was great. The pools, beach, staff, food, rooms were all fantastic. The only issue with this hotel lies with the horrible care given to the restrooms. There was rarely soap, never paper towels. The urinals is many bathrooms were off the wall or broken. The toilets didn't flush. Some bathrooms didn't have toilet seats. Yet they had time to put flowers on the counters and decorate the counter tops with welcome messages in flowers petals. The worst bathrooms were the one at the big party [... read more] pool. Never clean and urinals out of order. The other disgusting bathrooms was the one closest to the beach in the Mediterranean restaurant. No urinals and very dirty. I would recommend the hotel but something must be done about the bathrooms throughout the resort.

Hotel Los Cactus: Great golf, great staff

We have just returned from our TENTH visit to Breezes Varadero. It is like homecoming at every visit. Extremely friendly staff. A wide variety of rooms, so choose the suites. Very good air-conditioning. Minibar with complimentary water and for the first time, initial complimentary beer(2) and soft drinks(4). Both 110V and 220 V outlets, so no problem with converter plugs. Maid service was very good. New entertainment program with several spectacular, colourful shows from 9-10pm. There is no doub [... read more]t that one must be cautious with the foods, but from our ten years of experience, we have found the breads to be unbelievably fresh (made on site), ice creams are creamy with just the right amount of sweetness, local batter-fried fish are excellent, and the hamburgers at the grille near the beach are wonderful. Pastas are always a safe bet, but the tomato sauce is bland and needs to be spiced up according to one's taste. The main reason for our returns is the excellent arrangement the resort has with the nearby golf club. Green fees, morning pick up and after golf drop off very near the gates of the hotel can be arranged. The trip to the clubhouse is only a few minutes and even with a generous tip to the shuttle driver from the golf course, transportation to and from Breezes is much cheaper than more distant hotels.

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: Awesome Resort

Very clean. Lots of activities offered. Fun place to be. Although this 5 star resort could use a little basic upkeep around the grounds as well as offer room service. I felt it should be rated as a 4 star for those reasons. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. It was an overall very satisfying and relaxing 14 day vacation.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Amazing!!!!

Everything was great. I have traveled to many other islands, and would definitely return to Cuba!! The people are amazing, the beach was perfect and food was delicious. As a vegetarian I was nervous about food options and quality.. but it was great!! The Mexican and Japanese a la carte were so so so good, and also had tons of options at the buffet. Grand Memories Varadero: big resort - needs management review

We stayed at the Riu Varadero from January 28th to February 4th, 2015(family group of 8 including 9 yr old twins). Our flight and check-in at hotel were flawless. My husband and I stayed in the Adults Only section so our 3 à la carte dinners were already reserved for us. We used 2 choosing to eat our other meals with our group. We chose to return to Varadero (last year Melia Marina...fantastic but did not return there because prices had increased significantly) because of the Cuban people who are so welcoming, helpful and always smiling. Unfortunately this is where the problem also exists: The employees in all areas are understaffed, do not have the necessary equipment to perform their tasks efficiently and in many instances, the equipment is outdated or not fully functional. This is a management fault not staff! ( Apparently this hotel has been sold to another chain but the Riu logo is still everywhere). Nothing has been done to update this huge facility. One prime example is the coffee stations. There was always long line-ups for coffee in the main bar and often only one attendant working alone. One morning in one of the main buffets, the coffee machine broke and the waitresses had to run to an outside coffee bar, wait in line with guests and then run back to serve their tables. Other reviews mention having to wait for plates at the buffet, food to be refilled, etc. This is true but again management fault! Unfortunately many guests were outright rude and disrespectful of staff. The rooms are adequate - yes linen and towels are dingy grey, food is not the greatest but we always managed to find something, and all in all,we made the best of our situation. We were treated very well by staff and yes we do tip generously. These people work for such low wages and are so appreciative of anything you leave them...a few pesos go a long way and never did we feel it was expected of us! As a group we have travelled extensively and would probably not return to this hotel until some serious changes and updates are made.

Iberostar Selection Varadero: Fantastic

I - inviting, B - beautiful, E - enjoyable, R- restaurants, O - overall, S- swimming, T - tennis, A - awesome, R- relaxing. For my first time there, I must say everything was wonderful. The people were very friendly, the rooms very clean, the ground filled with beautiful trees & plants & the food was awesome, as was the pool & beach areas. Thank you so much.

Starfish Cuatro Palmas: Great spot in town and on the Beach

Everything including the weather was fantastic!! Will be back soon. If you get a chance to go to the Beatles bar or Calle 62 make sure you are thirsty and wanna dance your night away... Take the catamaran booze cruise too, lots to see and consume!!

Grand Memories Varadero: Welcome to the devils play ground

They will not let me comment, don't stay at this hotel. trust me when I say it was the worst experiance in all my trips. Mexico was by far a better place to vaction. The people of Cuba were awesome but this hotel is a 3 star at best and unless you want to saty in a dump I would think twice.

Palma Real: amasing resourt

very good value for the money although my friend got sick when she ate the fish but overall the trip was great and would go again. We loved the view from our room as we could see the beach from it Also the cleaning staff were very friendly and treated us with the utmost respect

Sol Varadero Beach: Back to Mexico

We were cautioned about Cuba and managing our expectations. Maybe the Melia chain doesn't believe in heating pools? A lot of inexpensive details that we thought were important the hotel obviously did not. The number of these details were significant but the lack of and quality of food was really a deal breaker. The Cuban people are great.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: nice resort

The food was good with a lot of choice.Buffet only started at 6:30pm and the show at 9:45pm, so a bit late for children. Did not get a room with double bed the first night even if that was the only specification requested for the holiday. I guess it is the usual when you go to cuba. Got unlucky with key card, they had to change the entire door handle that took another day. The team is only for french European guest. So the hotel should have their team too. Some staff were friendly but not all. Often I was thinking they should smile more or at least be friendly. But all said and done it was a nice holiday but just to much time wasted on a room.

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: Value did not meet expectations

As this resort changed hands in Jan. 2015 to a Royalton Resort it is perhaps too early to pass judgement. However, that being said I do not feel we received the value for the amount of money we paid for our 2 week stay. The pool and jacuzzi water felt like taking a cold water polar dip! The beach grill was often out of several menu items even though the same items were available at the main buffet or pool side. As well several cats at the grill were very annoying and unhealthy for anyone with al [... read more]lergies. The rooms did not have a coffee maker which normally comes even at a 3 star resort. Some rooms had upgraded thermostats but many were not changed and did not work properly. I will say the entertainment was excellent and the staff we encountered was always friendly.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Wonderful resort!

The resort was clean ,friendly ,room was great ! Grounds were very attractive a nd there were many choices for entertainment ..theatre and lobby entertainment each night .. Was very pleased with whole package !

-Hotel staff, pool, beach, and room were ok. -Resort is in a good location at one end of the Varadero strip. -Weather was very windy and/or cold 5 of 7 days (early Feb). -Food was terrible at the buffet. Lots of it, but very difficult to find anything that tasted good or looked appealing. The same food was recycled from one meal to the next. Everyone seemed to have pretty much the same pros/cons in regard to their resorts. Terrible food, mediocre cleanliness, ok beach/pool/drinks, etc Glad we saw it and no regrets about the trip at all, but we'll never go back to Cuba. Compared to several other islands, we rank Cuba in last place.
