Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Stay away from Privilege CLub
All our stay was good except for the experience with the Privilege CLub and the staff.
Everything except for the Privilege club staff and their way of chasing you around. The whole experience was unreal. they chase you to get you to sign up. you finally agree and unbelievably, in this 21st century where women are equal to men and capable of making decisions, they do not agree to just having the meeting with the "woman" and the husband has to be present. I was not the only one who suffered this[... read more] discrimination, sexism and lack of respect. My friend was insulted as well as we both went to see the Privilege staff and agreed to go to the meeting and he refused based on company policies and procedures that demanded the husband to be present. this situation was brought to the customer service of the hotel, was also discussed with the privilege staff and all they said was that it was the procedure. I find the procedure demeaning, insulting, sexist and discriminating and the staff and the club should be ashamed of themselves for carrying out such policy. And I really do not care about the explanation of the husband and the wife take decisions together or not. I am a woman and capable of making decisions on my own and with my husband as well.
Now for the good things, service was excellent. Jesus from the beach bar was the best! funny, friendly and always had a smile and the right drink for us. The room was always clean although there is this mold smell coming the mattresses. It is time to change those mattresses! The room is cleaned daily and the fridge and coffee and tea products are replaced every day.
The food at the buffet is really good except there is not a lot of variety from day to day but you can always find something here and there and is really nice and lots of flavours.
best restaurant a la carte is the Brazilian. Amazing food and the service was excellent too. The Japanese was good too and Adiel provides a great show and entertainment. I did not like the fish too much but my family had the beef and seafood and it was delicious.
The beach. seaweed but the work the staff does about it is unbelievable!! kudos to the staff and the administration for that job. They do their best to keep the beach cleaned and work really hard for it
The resort is big but we were in a room close to the main attractions (buffet and lobby) and the golf carts are also very frequent so we barely had to walk.
the Hacienda, we loved it and danced all night. there is karaoke there too and the live music. we missed the entertainment in the big theater (hotel) because never knew what time or what was going on but we did enjoy the live bands at the other place outdoor.
the pools are nice although maybe a bit of work on some is needed as there is some dirt you can see in some of them. the beach bars are good and not too busy.
I would recommend this hotel for sure, just stay away from the privilege club.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Second time here
This is the second time that we visited. First time was amazing with nothing to improve on. Second time around, we were still amazed but with minor details. When we arrived, our room safe wasnt working so we called the concierge to come fix it. Two and a half hours later, and with 5 people coming to try to fix it, they decided to change the safe altogether. This was our first night and we arrived late so this made the night a write off. Also, they say that they provide the room with 2 beers and [... read more]such each day in the mini fridge, but this only happened on the first night. Small things make an impact. Although we loved the customer service, food which is perhaps the best in all of our trips we have been on (8 to be exact) and the hotel grounds/room cleaniness, we will be exploring other options.

Generations Riviera Maya: Breeze beautiful
This visit was a return visit to Generations, many staff stood out offering over the top service-Enrique Torres/shuttle driver our butlers Paco, Candy man, Cesar and Christian very professional and always loving and helpful. We did use restaurants at El Dorado Royale but preferred the Jade restaurant and Chef Market restaurants, The only place we found a good steak(included in the all inclusive price- as most steaks have additional charges) was at Cocotal restaurant-beef tenderloin on menu was [... read more]fantastic, they used to have this choice at the Italian restaurant but have changed the menu recently to dis clued all steak and are selling them on the upscale for sales unfortunately. Most dinner menue S at the El Dorado have switched their beef and chicken dishes for fish and seafood leaving almost nothing to order on the menue said if you do not eat fish or seafood, the previous 8 years the menue said always included food choices for all eaters, this is no more the case, very little food choices for non fish and seafood eaters (lobster is upscale not included with all inclusive). Room cleanliness was extremely lacking compared to all previous visits to Karisma hotels, room service menu has decreased, leaving little to desire as well. Over all I found this visit showed a large downscale in room cleaning, food selection and shuttle services, waiting 45 minutes for a dinner shuttle is unacceptable (sand flees bite the most after 6:00 I had over 40 bites on my legs, then I stood in the middle of the road to block a shuttle after being passed constantly by half empty shuttles going one way and full shuttles coming back and changing the time to 20 minute wait again) sad that I finally had to stand in the middle of the road to block a shuttle to get a ride for my husband and other couple with us!!! Shame on the resort for only having 2dinner shuttles for all three resorts all week!!!

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Great resort, would recommend to family/friends
The hotel was very well maintained. Grounds were kept clean and staff were friendly. Hotel rooms were very spacious with nice rainfall shower, quiet AC. Food was really good at all the restaurants. During our stay in August there was a lot of seaweed so we did not swim in the ocean at all but the staff did try to clean up the beach. The pools made up for the beach, there was a good selection of food, drinks and entertainment at the pools from 9-5pm

Moon Palace Cancun: Relaxing vacation
We spent a week , Aug 17th to 24th in Moon Palace Cancun. It is very nice resort and service there is excellent. There was a little hiccup getting there. First our flight was delayed for an hour which happened also on the way home a week later because the flight from Toronto was delayed again. Not sure why but it seems the same flight Air Transat TS550 is delayed every Friday. When we got to Cancun the Air Transat agents at the airport told our driver that we are at Sunrise part of Moon Palace. [... read more]But when we got there it turns out we were supposed to be at Nizuk. Regardless, the welcome by the stuff was just amazing and very quickly they transferred us to right section , check in was quick and we had a very nice room at great location close to all amenities. We also had extra roll- away bed in the room as we requested. We had scheduled meeting next day with Air Transat agent with all info and time of pick up on the day of departure but he was an hour late, since the agents desk was in Sunrise section of hotel not where we were staying, it was kind of waste of time to go back and fort for that meeting and kind of lost half of the day. He apologized and said he had meeting with other client at different place , so why did they schedule him to be at 2 different places at the same time? Like I said the resort is very nice, clean and service is very good from Bellboys, serving staff in restaurants, waiters by the pool, towel lady, entertaining staff etc. The only little disappointment we had was that we could not swim in the ocean. It is so polluted by seaweed that is inaccessible. We understand that is not hotels fault , it's the mother nature, but still it would be nice to be able to spend some time on the beach as well. Therefore the pools are just overcrowded and everyone reserves their loungers with towels very early in the morning.
Another bit disappointment we had was a food. The buffet is quite small and did not have very much selection and La carte restaurants lack at tasty food. We were not hungry but just expected a bit more from that kind of resort. We vacationed in lower star rating resorts before in Riviera Maya and must say the selection and quality of food was much better. For example the Brazilian stake house in Moon Palace had that feel of service but meat was over seasoned and overcooked. Also we were under impression there are so many restaurants available but we quickly realized that was not the case. There were couple of Buffet in two sections of resort we were allowed to go, and abut 4 la carte but meals in la carte were just not that exciting. Also we had quickly learned that we need to go for dinner quite early,if we went later the lineups and wait for restaurants was just to long.I guess the good thing was there are no reservation required for restaurant's except the teppanyaki dinner at Momo, oriental La carte. I have to say that was actually the biggest disappointment. It was not easy to get reservation for teppanyaki dinner for the time we wanted so, when we got to restaurant and our group for the teppanyaki table was seated we had to wait almost and hour for chef to arrive and start cooking. All the tables around us who have been seated at the same time had almost finished dinner and we didn't even have a chef. The restaurant manager came after almost 45 min waiting, to apologize there was a mix up in the kitchen. When chef eventually arrived he cooked up dinner quite quickly and that was it.Just compering the experience in other resorts the teppanyaki dinner was much more fun with chef being more entertaining, it was a show and the dinner with guests engaged in entertainment etc.I had the resort app on my phone and got the message to review how is our stay so far. I have commented on situation with teppanyaki dinner but had no response.
Over all it was nice to get way with family and we did have relaxing vacation apart the Air Transat being a little disorganized and a small things I have mentioned.
I must mention the tripcentral.ca agent Jack was pleasure to deal with from the day we booked vacation with all information he has given us by word and email's and trying to accommodate our requests for centrally located room, roll-away bed to following up with us after we came back.

Finest Playa Mujeres by Excellence Group: Amazing Resort & Amazing Service
The resort was more than we thought it would be... the resort name could not be anymore accurate... EXCELLENCE! I was so impressed that we are going back in October for 10 days. I am really at a loss about any negative items. I guess if I had to pick one it would be the size of the elevators, they are small.
The food was delicious, the servers were polite and very happy to meet and of your needs, even making some changes to your menus choices. The menus had a lot of variety and choosing just[... read more] one was difficult. You could order 2 if you wanted too. There were healthy choices as well.
The room were large as was the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable not too hard and not to soft. If you did not like the pillow you could order one that fits your needs from the pillow menu which range from flat to soft with various materials down, foam etc. There was a steamer in the room so no ironing, someone was thinking there. Room service was fast and the food was hot upon arrival.
The resort was very clean, we saw no bugs what so ever. There were no ants or any other type of insect.

Occidental Tucancun: not so good
We were unlucky to get room with no balcony overlooking back of shopping mall and with noise from ventilation fans 24 hours a day. But room itself was very clean and comfortable. Again our luck, beach was covered with seagrass nobody cleaned and we were "forced" to use pools. Adult pool is just nice. Restaurants are nice and staff is very friendly (except one waiter who served a potato fries for his "friends" and there were not for others). All in all not bad but also not so good. For that kind of money we could have more.

Royalton Hideaway Riviera Cancun: Amazing place!
This is one giant resort! Many different choices for pools, entertainment, food options. The staff are wonderful, everyone is dedicated to your well being and they show a willingness to connect, if that's what you want. In terms of the food, the fact that there are so many different a la carte restaurants, means we barely ever went to the buffet for most of our meals. The food in the resort was great overall, even the mediocre room service menu was still ok, and a good option when you arrive to [... read more]the hotel past midnight famished. The drinks were really tasty and well made. We stayed in the hideaway, the pool there is a relaxed lounge feel, no kids here, they have night entertainment here and also daily lunch at the pool consisting of grilled BBQ style, also the private hideaway restaurant was a great option to have a relaxed a la carte breakfast overlooking the ocean in the morning sun. We loved this place and would come back in a heartbeat. When thinking over Cancun or the Rivera Maya in particular, your best bet is to not come during the time between July and October. The seaweed is fierce! Making the beach almost unusable. The hotel is 15 minutes away from the airport, which is great. It is however a lengthy and costly trip to Cancun (sets you back 35 USD on the way there, and a bit less on the way back). The hotel is VERY FAR from the main road (the distance is unwalkable) meaning you are at the mercy of the hotel to contract a taxi for you, hence the inflated price. The hotel is 1hr away from Playa del Carmen, very nice destination as well.

Excellence Playa Mujeres: Amazing experience in Cancun
This was our first time staying at this resort and everything was fantastic! The grounds were massive and the rooms were luxurious and clean. Food is great for the most part and the drinks were all premium nothing was watered down (definitely ask for the top shelf liquor). There was nightly entertainment and endless things to do. They do have a pretty strict dress code for the restaurants so be prepared.
Service was great everybody working there were so nice and friendly. Special thank yous t[... read more]o Chocolate roll and DIEGOOOO the bartender for dealing with our drunk asses and making us awesome drinks. Definitely will be visiting again!

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Absolutely Amazing!
The resort surpassed our expectations in many ways. The food was consistently good with no tummy issues experienced by anyone in our family. The steakhouse was our favourite! The resort did many things right - from having your bracelet be your room key to not having any reservations for dinner (except for the Japanese). On Sunday evening they have a street carnival where you play carnival games and earn "money" that the kids can use to purchase a toy. The resorts eco awareness was refreshin[... read more]g and the staff are always available to provide information about the plentiful animals and birds on the site. The activities are endless and you can play as much or as little as you want. There is activities for all generations, from the waterslides to the walking tours of the property. I can't say enough about how much there is to do!
We stayed in a standard room that was spacious and cleaned immaculately every day. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this resort for any family that has kids travelling with them of any age.

Grand Oasis Cancun: Nice Resort but water problems
On the first day I got heat stroke and they made it difficult to get clean water. They would resist giving you bottled water and most of the bars had water that tasted funny. Make SURE they are restocking your fridge with water. Many workers dont understand English, so brush up on spanish before you go. This place was the wildest party ever though!!

Moon Palace Cancun: Actually quite impressed
The service staff were always prepared to say "YES" to any of our requests. We had one misleading experience with the commissioned 3rd party company selling the excursions. The table side sushi service at the Japanese restaurant could have been explained more clearly... sushi dinners did not require reservations. They could have used a bit more seafood... Pier 8 was shut down. Housekeeping staff and our pool side servers were the best. Good bang for the buck taking in the use of the other two ho[... read more]tels. Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya: Great time!!
Had a fantastic time! Great place. The whole family had a fantastic time.
My only issue was they booked my 12yr old and I into a King bed room and right by the Adults only side (4) and away from the rest of our family (all were in 9). At first I was told they couldn't change it but then I persisted and they moved us to at least two beds instead of 1.

Iberostar Waves Paraiso Beach: Relaxing time , Great resort
My husband and I stayed at this resort for one week August 17-24. Very hot and extremely humid but the ac in our room worked well so did the fan so no complaints in that regard.
Our room was very clean and well maintained throughout our stay. Having stayed in Cuba and Punta Cana several times I would say this was the cleanest, however I found the service underwhelming. Polite but not engaged. The exception was Mara at the concierge desk.
Food well I didn’t get sick, and I enjoyed my me[... read more]als. Ate at the buffets, very basic but good enough. Drinks ,well drinks are always hit or miss at any inclusive I have been to. That’s why you have to really enjoy when you get one that is great because you may never ever have it again lol . Sometimes the drinks were watered down sometimes much too strong but eventually I always went back to the mojitoes. So refreshing so minty unlike Cuba I didn’t notice any bar that I went to out of anything that I wanted.
The seaweed was a non issue for us it was cleaned daily and we were able to swim whenever we wanted. So many fish when swimming in the ocean . Sometimes schools of them would be around. Harmless and so beautiful. If you took bread in with you they would surround you.
The nightly shows, yikes and yikes again. We went to the shows but if the entertainment team wasn’t trying so hard we would have left like many others did. But hey they had table service and popcorn so I had to drink somewhere lol why not there. The magic show was good Mexican folklore was good as well. all others well let’s just say the mojitoes really helped me enjoy the show lol .
Hardly any mosquitoes but bring Bug spray as they did get worse asthe week wore on. No ac in the buffets or lobby but I am not going to a tropical place and complain about the heat. Lol I knew about the lack of ac before I booked but if staying cool is important to you all the time this is not the resort for you.
The pool is huge, loved it. There is a place for everyone. We went to the disco that was air conditioned and it was fun it gives you something to do after 11pm
30 minutes from the airport but we only had one other couple in our shuttle.

Upon arrival, the Barcelo is very impressive. Well maintained and clean, and service at the desk is excellent. The room had one of the most uncomfortable beds I've ever slept in. Much better value and beaches in Cuba. I doubt I'll return.
