Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Very good resort

Grounds are very well kept as well as the public areas. Beautiful beach! Room was very nice and room service, excellent. Food was mediocre but could always find something good to eat. A la carte dinners were very good. Activity staff kept us well entertained, always something to do. Really enjoyed the rock show evening performance, super!

Palma Real: Good Value

Friendly counter staff, easily changed rooms for a better view of the ocean, rooms are clean, food is what one would respect for Cuba. Great value. Quick walk to the beach and completely safe to wander off resort no matter the time.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Great resort!

I've only been to Cuba once before and this resort is leaps and bounds ahead of the one I stayed at previously. Great food, friendly service, very clean and bright rooms. The only negative thing was the room temperature hot tub, but who needs that when there's an ocean steps away?

Playa Caleta: not good at all

The resort itself was beautiful but everything else was terrible. The food was absolutely horrible the employees were not friendly at all. The elevators kept breaking so it would take an hour just to go back to our hotel room. We didnt sleep much during our stay because the resort was way too loud and people partying all night. I would not recommend this resort to anyone.

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: AAA resorts and the people working there

The resorts is very well maintained ,the food is very acceptable , the personnel very accommodating ,just positive comments .in the room they refurbish the drinks..normally plenty of chairs and bally beds around the pools and the beach

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Not your typical "Cuban" resort!

Here is an honest first-hand review of Blau Marina Varadero. My family and I have been to many resorts in both Cuba and other sunshine destinations, with a strong preference for the 4+ or 5 star properties. Like most Canadians we generally come to Cuba because it's a low-cost alternative to the more expensive islands. We celebrated a 75th birthday at Blau Marina, and the resort exceeded our expectations by far. The buffet and restaurants were delicious and varied, we never felt like we were eating the same food over and over again. The grounds are lovely and well maintained, and the beaches absolutely breath-taking (Varadero 's beaches are said to be the finest in all the Caribbean). The rooms were spotless, modern and spacious. And although we were close to everything, at night the room was so quiet and very comfortable. The staff are warm and hospitable, and took enormous pride in their work and enjoyment in making our vacation as comfortable as possible. However special mention must go to Mr. Yunior Pérez Sixto for going out of his way to make our stay perfect, and for looking after us as if he was hosting his own parents. Also a great thank you to Dr. Rolando for his charm, charisma and kindness in looking after our needs. We truly felt like VIP guests. If we had to name one negative thing about our experience at Blau Marina, it was that it was a bit windy the first week we were there, but obviously that is beyond the resort's control. Our best advice to future guests would be this: if you want something, just ask! Part of the problem with bad reviews (not just for this resort but for any review for any resort) is that people are unhappy with something but do nothing to fix it. Our experience is that staff at all resorts (including this one) are only too happy to fix any problem or accommodate any request that is within their power to accommodate. And of course it goes without saying that your request should be courteous and polite. It's always easier to do something nice for a nice person than for someone whose standing on the other end of the counter yelling at you! :-) Thank you Blau Marina for such a wonderful, wonderful experience! We can't wait to return and enjoy your little piece of paradise in Cuba very soon!

Club Kawama: Sub par resort.

Dirty Rooms. Unfriendly and not helpful staff. Paid for room safe, it had no door. They tried to refuse a refund. They over booked the resort while there. Nice beach. If staying here, upgrade to a villa!!!

Paradisus Varadero: Great Vacation!

It's a great resort with lots of palm trees, extremely close to the beach and great food. There are a few cons- the entertainment is pretty slim, it's a quieter resort which we enjoyed but may not be for everyone. The bathroom in our room was subpar, I wouldn't consider it a 5 star, but it's functional. And lastly we didn't discover some of the features of the hotel until the end of our week, so the orientation/signs/staff could be a little better. Muthu Playa Varadero: Beautiful Beach

The hotel is a bit older but very nice. Staff are wonderful friendly people. It is actually my second time staying their and I will go back. It is close to town and the marina so their are a lot of things to do.

Club Kawama: Historic Resort!

At 83 years of age, we feel it has stood the test of time. We very much enjoy the sprawled out spaces & the remote feeling of being alone on the beach. Food has improved. Love the employees & cannot wait for our next visit!

Grand Memories Varadero: Good value!

Overall, my experience was good. The room was OK, it needed some new paint. The hotel needs a renovation soon. My bathroom had some mold, that is really my only complaint. It was really clean and our room was made up every day. In Canadian terms, the hotel is really a 3 star. The food was good (I recommend BBQ by the beach for lunch and a la carte restaurants for dinner) and better than most people told me. Make sure you exchange cash in the airport, otherwise you have to wait about an hour in l [... read more]ine at the currency exchange office in the resort. Also, for the a la carte restaurants, only 2 can be booked in a week (and it has to be reserved a day in advance) and the queue is also about an hour. So take these into account before heading to the beach! I highly recommend to book the Deluxe room - Adults only. There is really a difference in service and amenities: separate pool and bar & restaurant just for the Deluxe guests. You can also go to the Deluxe only restaurant every evening, no restrictions. The buffet is also a lot better (salmon, blue cheese, etc.). It's definitely worth it and the price difference is not big. Thanks.

Muthu Playa Varadero: Nice place, great staff

It was clean, safe, fun and friendly! The first floor seems to have a musty odor so we requested a different room. We were accommodated the next day when they had the availability. The staff are superior.

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Wonderful resort

This was a wonderful resort. All the staff was very friendly and helpful. The grounds were so well kept and of course the beach was beautiful. We ate at the buffet every day which had a great variety of foods and the chefs who cooked the meat and fish while you wait did a fabulous job! We loved the events at the poolside and beach, and the nightly entertainment was fabulous! I will highly recommend this resort to anyone going to Cuba. I began to believe it just depended on who was on duty in the hotel lobby making the exchange on that particular day.

Club Karey: Historical

Room ok, Grounds ok, Washrooms in Public Areas dirty, no toilet seats, toilet paper or water to wash hands, Pool Bar staff very unfriendly and slow, Other staff very obliging and willing to help, Buffet Food always cold.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Great Resort

Staff worked constantly to keep all areas clean and tidy. I slipped on my first night because a drink had been spilled on the floor, it was then quickly cleaned up. Supplies (toilet paper) sometimes not restocked after advising bar staff at pool 3 times. Cleaning of the room was excellent and timely. Beautiful beach, good beach service. Reception and money exchange fast and courteous. I enjoyed the food, I had not expected it to be so good!

Starfish Jibacoa: Simple, quiet and relaxing

Positives Points: Fast chek in and out. Nice, clean and secure site. Suffisant chairs at the beach and at the pool with choice of shade or sun! (possibility to do snarkling on the site) Bungalows are really private Good to visit either Varadero, Mantaza or Havana (less than 1 hour by cab) Great view on the mountains and easy to go for a hike. Employes are nice. Old buildings that need renovation Finaly: If you look for a 5 stars it's not your pick but if you are looking for a nice quiet place to relax, you'll enjoy.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: not bad for Cuba

Not bad for cuba but this 5 star wouldn't be a 5 star any place else. Service was quite slow but friendly. The walk from my room to the main lobby and bar etc. Was quite long which made making trips back and forth exhausting but over all rating... not bad.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Welcomimg and friendly

Me and my family just returned from a wonderful vacation at this resort. We had heard so many stories of Cuba, so we went with very low expectations and had an amazing surprise. Rooms were clean and spacious, the air conditioner worked well and fridge was stocked daily. Towels were adequate. The only thing I can think of to improve the room would be a tub mat. The front desk staff were very efficient and pleasant. Meals were good, an interesting selection of foods to choose from. over-promised and under-delivered. reception was unhelpful, not very informative, and rude at times...we called from our room once for help and were told they were too busy and to call back later. "diamond deluxe club" is not a thing either. there are very well marked out areas for club members, but anyone can go anywhere, there is no differentiating between guests. don't pay extra for this. lobby bar is beautiful and made great drinks, there are a wide variety of daily activities to be involved in during the day and the servers at the buffet are wonderful - friendly and welcoming every time you enter the room. nice beach bar/restaurant that is more formal, and then a casual beach grill and bar on the beach. it is a nice resort, but the illusion that they have cultivated online is misleading and had we known, we wouldn't have decided to "spoil" ourselves at a "high end" resort. Cuba is a wonderful country, Varadero is nice beach and we recommend making the trip to Havana, but we don't want anyone to pay more for luxury services that don't exist

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Not a 5 star!

Always wanted to go to a Paradisus as I have been to Cuba 17 times always staying at the Melias, had the impression that Paradisus was one step higher in regards to amenities and service, expected some extras. This was not the case here, resort itself is beautiful. Day one, resort ran out of orange juice in the buffet, ran out of straws for two days, service in all restaurants were very slow due to understaffing, we were suppose to receive rum and sparkling wine in the room, never got them, thre [... read more]e days in a row no bottled water or beer. Disappointed to say the least. I have been a Melia member for 10 years and expected a little more. Will not be returning to this Paradisus.
