Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: not a 5 star hotel

The toilets in the hotel or around the pools are not clean usually missind soap, the mattresses are very bad and old ,we stayed 36 hours without any towels and every other day we were missing towels.The fridge was supposed to be refurnished every other day but unfortunately it took 12 days,poor service in the buffet restaurant not enough staff to serve you,you have to keep looking for somebody to have your coffee or glass of water. I believe it is a management problem and not the poor employees.

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Overall great experience!

The great: the beautiful lobby, friendly staff, amazing beach, availability of loungers by the pool and beach, the delicious rum and the weather. The not-so-great: the food, the shortage of beach towels. We had an incredible trip - the front desk was great with accommodating our onsite request for a King bed instead of two doubles. A lady next to us at the counter was making the same request quite rudely and did not get the same accommodation...perhaps in Cuba, as everywhere else, you catch mor [... read more]e flies with honey. A couple little quirks, like the lock on our terrace door being a little finicky, were noticed but didn't impact our trip. And the food, while not great, is to be expected in Cuba. This was my fourth trip and it's the same everywhere. Absolutely would return to this resort, it was great value and totally enjoyable :)

Memories Jibacoa: Cuba bike trip

Great hotel as a base for a one week cycling trip. Good smooth roads for cycling with friendly Cuban bike guides available. Beautiful beach and large pool for lounging and swimming. Relaxing resort atmosphere.

Starfish Varadero: Great resort

No hot water for showers. Delicious warm bread at the dinner buffet. Beautiful beach. Friendly staff Close to airport Good value for money. Excellent entertainment. Far to walk to dining room depending what room you are in.

Hotel Bella Costa: Not horrible but not great

This was my first time staying in Cuba and not what I thought a 4 star resort would be like. It was about what I expected a 3 star to be. The resort needs renovating/updating. The food was ok, pretty much how everyone described it, not great but you won't starve. The beach was amazing though! No vendors either! Most of the staff were friendly. The drinks were fantastic!

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Nice place

Our first trip to cuba was a good experience! The place was clean. Drinks were cold. Minimal line ups(except for check in-out). Beach was nice. Wasnt hard to find something good to eat. The cab ride to Varadero is 15 peso(20 canadian). Or there is a all day bus for 5$. We did the Havana excursion and it was long but very interesting. We did talk to some return visitors that loved the place.

Blau Varadero: Our Go To Resort

My wife and I, seniors, thoroughly enjoyed our 2nd stay at this resort, and we will return. We enjoyed the food, variety and presentation, and venue. Our room was amazing, our maid service as well, thanks Annia. The pool, the beach, as far as we are concerned are superb, but, pool water a little cold. We were treated to a very special lobster dinner our 2nd night, for returning guests. We were met here by the mgr. Jose, who was extremely cordial. Melia Marina Varadero: 1st time to cuba

Being our first time to Cuba we were a bit hesitant with all of the negatives that you hear about this destination. However we were pleasantly surprised!! The resort was exceptionally clean and well cared for - not one critter or bug seen at the hotel. There was never a lack of food - yes a bit on the bland side but good variety and lots of fresh grilled items. The rooms were nice, spacious and clean - the maids were excellent!! Our room was pool view which was nice as it was quiet once the pool shutdown for the day at 6. Overall the only "complaints" we had would be the slushy drinks were not very good/slushy (beer was delish and so was the coffe from lobby bar) and some people had little bites from the beach sand. Otherwise no one got sick, hotel staff was great and we got a great tan.

Roc Barlovento: Worth less than I paid

Fifth time you Varadero, but this resort is not what we were expecting. We know the food is not spectacular in Cuba, and we know they have a hard time getting parts to repair things, but it seems that the management is pinching pennies and not willing to give guests their moneys worth. Half the beach loungers need to be replaced, the recently closed beach bar needs to be reopened, the waterfall at the main pool needs to be fixed, and the rooms will not be nice until they are ALL fully renovated. [... read more] Toilets in the lobby, by the entertainment stage and by the beach grill need to be fixed so they flush properly, and paper towels and soap needs to be provided. But other than the food and drink quality and variety, there is not too much more to complain about. The beach, ocean, a few select staff members, and the nightly entertainment were all awesome.

Club Kawama: Fun vacation

Going down to Cuba to Kawama hotel was an adventure I took my cycling bike to Road right the roads are wonderful to ride on the hotel was 2 1/2 star and you do get what you pay for Being a cyclist great place to cycle we rode into Havana stay a night and came back . 125K each way good roads if you're cyclist you got to do it

Palma Real: Good Value for the money

The food is good. There is always a large selection. But there are many restaurants in the area that you can walk to that offer fabulous food at great prices. We ate dinner out 4 nights. There are a variety of pools, some in quiet areas. The grounds are well maintained. The showers do not always have hot water. But the rooms are cleaned regularly by friendly staff. The public washrooms at the hotel are not very clean maybe because of overuse by tourists. The biggest attraction to this hotel for  [... read more]me is location. I like being able to walk into the town. And the beach across the road is beautiful.

Hotel Villa Cuba: Great Place to visit

We had a very large room with a bidet, go figure, and I loved it. Our bath towels were very small, as small as my hand towels in my bathroom. We loved our bed but the covers could use a good wash. The grounds were very clean, the pool was great but a wee bit cold. The food was poor, they need to train their chef to be a little more creative with the foods they have, but you will not go hungry. I will return to Villa Cuba any day for the most beautiful Beach!!!!!!! Our stay was most enjoyable, next time I will take my own bed covers and bath towels. One can only get what they paid for and I think we got our money's worth. Overall, a great experience and I would recommend and return to Villa Cuba again. The best bang for your bucks.

Club Tropical: What Did I Expect?

Trying to save money, I booked us into a 2.5 Star. I've stayed at 3's and up before in Cuba and was happy. BOY, what a difference that .5 Star makes, folks! Staff was unhappy, rooms were old and the food was abysmal. Perhaps other 2.5 Stars aren't this bad but I would not chance it. Stick to at least 3 Stars and up.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Very nice but somewhat aging

Very nice resort with beautifully landscaped and well kept park like setting. Apartment buildings grouped around 2 circles forming the number eight. Rooms are looking nice, very clean and well maintained but are showing a little aging. Mattresses: time to be renewed! Ample food choice of good quality at buffets and restaurants. Nice entertainment day and night. Beach very wide, beautiful and cleaned every day. Never a problem to get a a bed on the beach, even at 100% occupancy of the resort. Personnel and people of Cuba friendly as always and will do everything to make your holiday memorable . We like the Diamond Club extra's very much at this resort.

Starfish Varadero: Awsome resort!

What can I say about the joy that this resort gave me? ,, The food , the ocean and the people made for an amazing well deserved week off, Clean rooms, excellent service, The staff were very warm and welcoming,, would highly recommend to the first trip traveller,, don't forget your bubba!

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: A most beautiful resort, Wonderful Holiday.

Very accommodating hotel with clean, spacious rooms and excellent service. Magnificent grounds with lots and lots of beautiful palm trees right next to most beautiful beach with more than enough space for everyone. Lots and lots of chairs and sun huts, music and bar. And the food !!! Excellent with more choice than one can imagine. All you can eat and drink, anytime anywhere including a Grand Buffet with live dinner music and smaller specialized restaurants giving guests a wide array of dining c [... read more]hoices. All commodities are available such as money exchange, souvenir shops, computer room, telephones and friendly staff with 24-hour room service. .

Melia Peninsula Varadero: fantastic resort all the round

we totally enjoyed everything they had to offer, the grounds were gorgeous except for where they're doing new work but it was discreetly done keeping the rest of the grounds perfect, the beach was wonderful, and most of all the staff were amazing, friendly and professional

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: A truly Beautiful Resort

Everything was wonderful. The food was a little bland but great variety. The staff were amazing. Very sweet and helpful. Loved the daybeds around the pool. This is a great place for adults. The singer in the Piano Bar was beautiful and her voice incredible. Would definitely return.

Hotel Bella Costa: Great resort for young families

We stayed in a suite the Villa area and they were perfect for us (we have three children under the age of 5). These are the buildings on the other side of the pool area from the main building, so generally quieter. We were in the Tropical Ocean View Suite which had plenty of room and 1.5 bathrooms, in addition to a living room and large bedroom, and a fantastic view! The location was ideal (just a short walk to the beach). Don't expect all the bells and whistles of a 4-star accommodation in Cana [... read more]da or the US, but knowing this, the resort was fine. Bring your own travel clock as the rooms are pretty bare other than a TV and phone and fridge. There are not a lot of KidsClub activities offered and the kids playground is definitely run-down. But we didn't need much more than a beach and the pool for our kids ages. The kids pool was good for toddlers (no beach-entry-like access for babies unfortunately) and the bigger pool great for our 4-year-old. If they were older, things like a splash pad, water slides and more kids activities (crafts, games, etc) would have been preferred. It would also have been nice if the buffet was open a bit earlier than for 7 breakfast and 6.30 dinner. The food was satisfactory for all (the made-to-order pasta bar and the fresh-made pizza were the biggest hits for the kids). Unfortunately the kids entertainment shows didn't start earlier than 8pm. The staff were extremely kind and helpful, and the beach was awesome -- beautiful sand and shallow for a long way out. Don't forget to pack a few of your own beach toys with you. There is a little shop on site that you can buy things like diapers and beach toys but probably just easier to bring your own. We also liked to location of the resort in Varadero for two short morning outings with the kids - an easy hop-on / hop-off bus ride into town (we took the kids to Josone Park) and also not too far to the Ambrosio Cave -- this cave is highly recommended to go to with the kids for something different (they can see lots of bats, cave paintings...bring your own little flashlight or headlight). Just ask the bus driver to let you off there. Note: the hop on/off bus stop is a bit of a walk from this resort (approx 1km or so). All in all the resort was great for families with young kids!
