Riu Tequila: Good value resort with some limitations.

Clean, efficient resort with charming Mexican decor. It has great food, attentive staff and good overall value. It is co-located with a few other Riu resorts where you have limited use of facilities. The pool area is somewhat small and not very deep but is fine if you just want to cool down after lounging in the sun for a while. The beach is probably 400 to 500 metres away, which means a hike of 10 mins or more. This was a bit of a stretch for senior citizens like ourselves. Although, there is a [... read more] small golf cart "trolly" to ferry people back and forth at selected times during the day we never used it once over a 9 day stay because it never seemed to fit our schedule. One irritant for us was the WIFI set up which only allowed access for 90 continuous minutes once a day in the (at times) very noisy lobby. This was very inconvenient, so to keep contact with our family we many times had to walk minutes down the street and sit outside the Starbuck to use there WIFI signal.. In contrast the Riu Playacar and Riu Yucatan which were close by allowed their guests 24 hour WIFI from several areas on their property

Grand Sirenis Mayan Beach: Great resort

Beautiful and spacious grounds, lots of walking paths, beautiful pools, spa, dining rooms with very good food. Snorkelling from beach was fun. Wifi very sporadic. Excellent friendly, and helpful staff.

Dreams Puerto Morelos Resort and Spa: Wonderful Resort and Wonderful Staff

Resort is beautiful. Beach is small but nice. Food and drinks are great. All the staff work really hard to keep you happy and to keep the resort in top notch condition. A big thank you to Israel and Aldo for making our stay exceptional and all the staff for a wonderful and relaxing vacation. See you soon ! Secrets take great pride in this resort. Barcelo Maya Colonial: Had a great time

We stayed 7 days at the Barcelo Maya Colonial Beach resort. The grounds were well maintained, rooms were kept clean, staff were very friendly and helpful, the beach was my favorite part with soft white sand and never had problems finding a chair to relax in. Overall we had good time. I would recommend this resort.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Amazing resort

We are repeat guest and will go back again you are treated like royalty we have always had a great time there it was our third visit and have recommended it to many of our friends and family I would recommend it for a destination wedding as well it has many gorgeous spots

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: A true 4.6-Star resort tries really hard to be 5.

The resort has a 5-star at the gate. From the hardware, service and the way the management manages the hotel. It is a true 4.6-star resort. The services are very friendly from almost all staffs except those who are the front desk. They feel they are the masters of the resort and anyone else brings the problems to them. The local Mayan people made the difference in a very positive way - make us feel welcom. The food is very good in buffert and some speciality restaurants comparing with other 4.5- [... read more]star to 4.9-star resorts. The cookers are very skillful in all food counters except the Mexico food counter - most often there is no cooked food on the counter or the cooker even disappears for long long time. Another big issue reported to the management in writting but never heard anything back is that the fresh juice counter staff drinks from the serving jar and then refill the juice. It is a very unique way to refill the juice. Room is clean except the number of towers provided is different everyday and only 2 of 4 lights working in the room. In general it is a true 4.6-star resort and the management works hard to make it 5-star.

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Good but some issues 3rd trip to this resort

The place is very nice we have been here 3 times we got to the resort on 10th Jan 2015 for 1 week arrived very early and could not get a room until 4pm we were exhausted. They did not have the basic room available and gave us pool view room 1 bedroom suiteat no additional charge. it was lovely definitely worth it if the money is not an issue. the basic rooms are ok at best we have stayed in them. new bars and shops built new resteraunts opening food is great. wine was nice as well. the drinks we [... read more]re hard to get slow service and single shot pours is the norm I ended up tipping the bar staff at the swim up bars to get me a decent shot. this time there were more children than anywhere I have neen. They would sometimes scream the resteraunt down. I have just got my hearing back and will now vote for any political party that will bring back the rights for parent's to wallop bad kids. in fairness the vacation wasbgreat value for money I am probably in the wrong age group to critizise the kid issue. I put the blame of the baby glut on the networks lousy tv programming regatdless of the the number of channels provided. go here in confidence great value for money super for families if you are a couple without children consider karismas adult only resort it cost bit more otherwise I reccomend a set of noise reducing headphones. I hope I am not moaning it was lovely they were great as always we for sure will be back at karisma resorts.

Riu Tequila: Our preferred RIU resort in Maya Rivera

The RIU Tequila is one of several RIU resorts in the area and while it is not the most grandiose compared to others, at least if feels like you are still in Mexico. The Tequila was exceptionally clean, the staff very friendly, the food excellent and the pool area with adjoining dining very nice. It is a good value also as you pay a bit less because it is a 5 minute walk to the beach or 2 minutes by shuttle but no big deal. Our first time in the area but if we go back, it will be to the Tequila.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Nice place

The hotel staff bothered us about time share several times during our stay. The free internet did not work and the paid upgrade did not work much better. The bars were understaffed and took more time than it should have to get service. The grounds were kept very nice and the people were friendly our weather was good so we had a good time anyway.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Heaven on Earth

Beyond belief, a breathtaking view of ocean, beaches, pools, bars, theatres, mall, restaurants, clean comfortable rooms. The food was excellent with numerous choices and selections at the buffets. The food in the restaurants was perfect and served as you requested. The staff was excellent and a total pleasure to interact with. Nothing was left to the imagination. Thanks for making our dream come true.

Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Barcello Maya first timer

First trip to Mexico and was impressed. Barcello is a very large facility and when we are able to enjoy the amenities of all four resorts without restriction it was very enjoyable. Never had to compete for space at either the beaches or the pools,Buffets, seemed like there was lots for families to do as well. I don't have little ones but I would not hesitate to bring my grandson here. Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Great resort !

4th trip there, but still exceeded expectations. Room, grounds, food, service impeccable, as always. Only drawback is the beach. It's very rocky, and the water available for swimming is shallow. Need to go off resort to swim/snorkel.

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: A great wedding & vacation!

Amazing location in Mexico for a wedding! The resort employees are top notch, taking care of your every need or want! They deserve a 2 thumbs up. The food was comparable for Mexico with its of options for all. This was our 1st time to this side of Mexico and we will be back soon , the weather was amazing and it's a beautiful lush resort with lots to do and see! Thank you to Jean @ trip central for all his help and information for booking this trip!

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Excellent

The overall atmosphere was relaxing and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The entire facility looked clean. I was really impressed with the decore and beautiful surrounding vegetation. Find dining truly was fine dining. The private beach was excellent. A wonderful experience.

El Dorado Seaside Palms: Perfection

As a Christmas gift to each other my boyfriend and I decided to take a trip down south. I researched extensively for the perfect place and landed on EDSS and we were not disappointed. Unfortunately our flight was delayed and the bus ride from the airport to the resort was nearly 2 hours and we did not arrive until 2AM. Upon arrival we were brought to a room with 2 twin beds.. I was not impressed and we had to pay to upgrade to luxury room with a king bed. We were quite happy with the new room an [... read more]d 24 room service which we took advantage of as there was no restaurant open at the hour we arrived. The next 6 days were pure perfection. The staff was super friendly, waitresses, bartenders, gardeners and entertainment staff alike! We tried several of the restaurants for breakfast lunch and dinner - our favourites were the Beach BBQ, Burger Bistro, Italian and Asian. All were so delicious! Premium liquors and beers were available at all bars and our mini fridge was always stocked. The house wine was also amazing - no need to purchase the ones they try and up sell to at dinner. There was daily entertainment at the main pool which we didn't spend much time at - spent more time at the lap pool and on the beach beds. Nightly entertainment at the main bar was always good. The rock circus show was our favourite. We really have no major complaints and look forward to our next opportunity to return to an El Dorado resort :)

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Good, but not impressive

I will start out by stating that this was our first trip to Mexico after 4 trips to Cuba and 2 to the DR. So many people told us how much "better" Mexico is, in particular the food. Yes, there is some more selection and they actually have Heinz Ketchup (big deal), but we were not overly impressed. We travelled with 4 other adults, 2 kids (4 and 6) and I was 27 weeks pregnant at the time, so keep that in mind. The resort over all was good, albeit not as clean as other places we visited. We did no [... read more]t see many workers tending to the grounds and the beach was quite littered with straws and cigarette butts. One day, there was an entire stack of cups by the smaller pool all day and we had already noticed them on our way to our room the night before. The only thing I was really impressed with was the cleanliness of the bathrooms. I am pretty sure someone was cleaning them at all times (the women's at least, my husband tells a different story about the men's...) The big pool by the beach was ok. Soooo many people! There are tons of chairs, but if you travel in a group, you may want to "reserve" chairs in the morning. I found the pool hard to get in and out of, as there is quite a step. The pool with the kiddie pool was not filled enough and the water didn't even reach the filters, which made the water a little dirty. The beach is great for the kids to play (minus the garbage mentioned above), but the water is mediocre for swimming. Part of the beach is banked by sandbags and it just looks bad. The water is not the gorgeous blue and turqouise colour we are used to from Cuba, but that appears to be the norm for the entire Mayan Riviera. There are some pieces of coral as you walk into the water, but only for a small strip. The buffets were well attended and there was a good selection of food, but it did get repetitive after a week. The salad bar was phenomenal in my opinion. We tried the steakhouse and dinner theater and both were good. MAKE SURE YOUR BEEF IS COOKED THROUGH!!! I cannot stress this enough! Both of my kids got a hamburger at the steakhouse which was COMPLETELY red on the inside and we also had several other incidents of undercooked hamburgers at the buffets. I did not drink and spent no time at the bars, but my hubby said that if you didn't have a tip in your hand, you waited a long time to be served. Drinks were good. I found the resort big and the walk to the beach was plenty far for me and the kids. They have shuttles, but they tend to be full at "peek times" to and from the beach. Room was ok (we had a standard gardenview with 2 doubles) but nothing fancy. No facecloths for most of the week. Water pressure is fantastic, temp is great and the showers are fabulous. The maids didn't get too crazy with towel art and didn't do any at all if no tip was left. Overall, the resort is good, but not what I expected from Mexico after what we heard. I did hear it is a lower standard compared to surrounding resorts. But it had everything we need for a great week.

This resort is mind blowing. From the moment you step foot on this resort you are treated with friendly, eager and gracious smiles that will do whatever you need to make your stay as pleasurable as possible. Staff is stellar. Not one complaint with one of the hundreds of employees working there. From the managers to the gardeners everyone is hospitable and professional. The accommodations are gorgeous. The entire resort is laid out conveniently and effective with numerous bars, eateries, activities, shops, pools,and of course the beach. The entertainment is great. from the poolside entertainers and activities, to the live theater shows, to the live music and late night DJ's there is never a dull moment throughout your day. If you are looking for something a little more quiet you can take advantage of the cigar bar as well. Food is fantastic. With something for everyone it was hard to decide where to eat each night...and that isn't a bad thing at all. Lets not forget the 24hr room service that has a nice selection of munchies and healthy alternatives, along with beer and spirits. If you are looking for a fabulous time where you can have a great balance of relaxation and entertainment I highly suggest you spend some time here. You will not be disappointed.

Catalonia Yucatan: Lovely Resort!

The grounds of the Catalonia Yucatan and Catalonia Maya are beautiful, the staff are constantly working to keep everything looking nice. We had a Suite which was large, clean and totally enjoyable. The staff were beyond reproach, they were friendly and helpful and always trying to make sure we were ok and had everything we needed for a great time. Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Awesome resort!!

Reading the reviews before heading to blue bay grand Esmeralda I must say I was a bit apprehensive however as soon as I stepped foot on the resort I knew I was going to have a wonderful week! My boyfriend and I traveled to Mexico jan 12th-19th with air canada vacations. The bus was easy to find once we arrived in cancun and the trip to our resort was only about 40 mins with one stop at iberostar along the way. My only complaint was that they generally told everyone the layout of the resort all at once and because everyone was excited to be there and doing other things it was hard to hear which resulted in us getting a little lost finding our room because the resort is HUGE. They did have golf carts to take you to your room however we opted to walk because the grounds were just so beautiful. Everything was immaculate and there was staff working constantly on the up keep everywhere you looked. Speaking of staff I was so supprised at how genuinely nice they were to everyone! From the groundskeepers to the bartenders, buffet staff and front desk everyone was so pleasant and always smiling and saying hello. We were happy with our room it was clean and the maids did a wonderful job everyday, fresh sheets and towels and little towel creations were on our bed daily. I found our room was cleaned in the morning which was great. Our shower was amazing never a shortage of hot water and our bed was heaven!! Our blowdryer didn't work but I called down to the front desk and someone was there to replace it within a half hour. Be careful when your out on the balcony the door will lock behind you! We were stuck on our third floor balcony for about 25 mins before we spotted a worker who radioed for someone to come save us! We were in building seven which was close to the smaller pool and festival buffet and black and white bar. It took us about ten mins to walk down to the main pool and beach area which was never a problem because it was such a beautiful resort. I was actually very supprised at the beach after reading such negative reviews. I thought it was great. Yes there is seaweed that constantly comes in but they had workers on the beach all day taking it up so unless our down there at 7am before they arrive the seaweed was never an issue. They had lots of beach chairs so finding them was never a problem. We weren't a vip guest and im ️glad because the cup section isn't directly on the beach, it's raised up and here are sandbags infront of it. We walked down to the left of the resort a couple times to a beautiful lagoon that had bright blue beautiful water!! It was breathtaking! We also took the kayaks out a couple times ( free of charge) and had a wonderful time as there are no time limits so we could explore the whole beach. The food was also great. We mostly ate at festival buffet for breakfast, the smaller pool buffet for lunch and for dinner we went to the steakhouse twice, Italian and Mexican a la cartes. They tell you to book your a la cartes 24 hours in advance however we made same day reservations and it was never a problem. The steakhouse was amazing!!! Luis was a wonderful server we were lucky enough to have both times. Our steak (the special cut) was awesome!!! The Italian was also very good, be prepared it is a lot of food!! I was actually very disappointed in the Mexican however. We rushed back from our all day excursion as xel- ha ( which was awesome) to make it on time only to have to wait by the door for 20 mins to get seated even though the restaurant was not busy at all. Another 20 mins to even get drink orders and a half hour after that for our main course. It was the only time on the trip the staff were rude and were not enjoying there jobs. The food wasnt the greatest either and was very cold. We ended up going to the biggest after. Other than that the rest of the food was great, the buffets always had a large selection you did see a few repeated items over the week but we didn't mind as they were excellent. There is also no shortage of alcohol! The drinks were fantastic!! We brought bubba jugs and they had no problem filling them with whatever we liked! Piña coladas at the smaller pool bar were great and the strawberry margaritas at black and white bar were so tasty!! It was also nice to have beer and run restocked in our room everyday so we could sit on our balcony and have some drinks before dinner. The swing bar was very fun during the day and after about 11pm! Until 11 we hung out at the black and white bar and watched the shows rode the mechanical bull and played cards. As for complaints I saw others making: Time share- I never once saw someone selling timeshare nor was I ever asked to purchase it or go to meetings. I don't know where other reviewers saw these people but I'm ️glad I didnt! Wifi- first of all your in mexico wifi shouldn't be a main priority however I never had an issue with it! It worked in my room, both pools and the beach. It was slower in the mornings but again, I never had a problem. Smokers- again never had a problem with this. They have designated smoking areas and the smokers stuck to them. If staff saw people smoking around the pool they kindly asked them to move to a designated area. Overall I had a wonderful week and would not hesitate to recommend this resort to anyone!! I've travelled south about 15 times and this was one of my favourites!!
