Built in the fall of 2022 this Adult only resort was amazing. Situated North of Cancun, there was limited amounts of seaweed on the beach/water that was great. We had not been to Mexico since 2016 for that reason and had chosen Jamaica as our preferred destination since then. This was also our first RIU resort stay.
Shade is limited on the beach nearest the water. Palm trees offer some shade yet they are 50 ft. from the water behind a small dune that somewhat limits the view of the Ocean. Poo[... read more]ls offered lots of shade, never an issue playing towel games. We usually arrived around 9 ish with our group of 3 couples. Loved the mobile bars (reminded us of an ice cream carts), to keep us hydrated :-).
Pools were from quiet to partying as expected. Adult water slides....what more can I say, no line ups, well managed and a blast. Sixty eight (68) steps to the top but good for keeping trim from the great food.
Restaurants (A la Carte) in our order of preference: Steakhouse, Asian (buffet style), Kulinarium, Milan, Poolside (Buffet) & Pepe's Food (grill). No reservations taken for restaurants, we showed up at opening and no problems getting seated. Buzzers provided if full. Entertainment was good on stage as well as additional events, white party, neon party, foam parties-great entertainment crew.
Rooms was great, new and functional. Always well done by the staff and plenty of bottle water. We had room 4171 on the fourth floor that provide us view of the Ocean to our right and the mangrove on the left.
Staff here are just amazing in every ways. Great price ($$) point. Would definitely consider going again :-)
Do not be deterred by the small amounts of negative reviews on social medias, as those should just stay home!!

The location on Palm Beach was perfect.
Room clean & beds most comfortable. Staff accomodating with requests for extra bedding/toiletries etc.
Food available in 4 themed restaurants along with buffet. Great variety
Casino ( especially for craps players) - only one table , but always action from 9 30 pm onwards
The general atmosphere inside as well as great daily entertainment around the pool.( Adult oriented.... not for kids )
Nothing negative to say about our stay.

Riu Dunamar: First Time & Last Time
Disappointed to say the least.
Lodging: We called after making our initial reservation for a family suite they said yes. Get there and no family suite. Someone forgot to write it in. Switching suites was painful and took 2 days. The suite we ended up with was ocean view and beautiful. Good Point! Room Bar had crappy liquor. We had to call to get our room restocked of drinks which was hardly enough for a family of 4. No room service with this hotel. House cleaning was great! Also walking the [... read more]hallways was kinda creepy reminded me of a hospital or something you see out of a movie on a pysch ward.
Food/restaurants: NO RESERVATIONS NEEDED! That was CRAP! The steak house you had to be there at 5 pm before they opened at 6pm in order to have a chance at the very least to getting the last seating at 8pm. Just saying leaving a generous tip helps you get in faster. Your more MEMORABLE. The buffet food was less then spectacular. Other restaurants were meh. Sports bar offered refrigerated burgers/hot dogs and sandwiches to be microwaved. Selection did not change day to day. Always seemed to be running out of sparkling wine.
The burger stand I think was the best thing for lunch fresh fries and burgers on the fly.
Beach: Beautiful. Serving staff were great. Had police patrol center and a helicopter on Saturday that came by and sat watching for a bit. Went one day as most days too windy to really enjoy the water with kids.
Pools and reserving chairs: It says not to but after the 1st 2 days. Enough was enough. Had to get up at 6 am to reserve chairs for our group. Foam party was fun. One pool was quieter then the other. Wheel chair ramp accessible was cool. Pool Swim up bars. I asked a staff member if children were allowed in and they said yes of course. We go take a far corner bench and table with aunt uncle and our 2 small children minding our own business and we start getting the whistle blown at us. No one seemed to know the rules at Dunamar. One person would say one thing the other another.
Kids Water Park: Our youngest can't go down by themselves. So i would but them on my lap and slide. I GOT THE WHISTLE BLOWN AT ME. I could agree to no tube slides but then I got it blown again at me for going down an open slide. I could only go down 1 slide out of 7 with my child.
Misconception: When booking it says you have access to all Riu resorts. We thought we'd go adventuring to the one next door.....Then it says no access to Riu Dunamar guests.....WTH!!
So frusturated. By the 3rd day and 2nd degree sunburn we were ready to go home. My husbands aunt and uncle kept apologizing to us as this was a poor excuse for a riu as they have been to several.
Night Entertainment: Couldn't really Comment about this that much other than if you were facing the inside court yard where the entertainment was it echoed into your room like no tomorrow. We were on a corner suite and it really echoed.

Riu Vallarta: Review of Riu Vallarta
This hotel was very nice. The lobby was beautiful and the grounds very fabulous. My room was very nicely decorated and very roomy. The food was terrific. The buffet had a lot of variety and had dishes that could be enjoyed by all. The other restaurants were also very good, particularly the Italian cuisine.
The proximity to the ocean was really a plus and the beach was beautiful.
The staff went over and above to make all our party comfortable and happy.

All in all I was very impressed with the whole experience and would recommend it to anyone.

Riu Montego Bay: Great Resort
Everything was beautiful and very well done, from the grounds, to the accommodations to the food and the events. The only issue would be that the restrooms were located too far from the pools and many did not leave the swim up bar pool.

Riu Flamingos: Mixed reviews
It's a beautiful resort. However they need to spend more time picking up garbage not only on the beach part of the resort but also around the resort. People leaving empty cups, garbage and cigarette butts everywhere. The public washrooms in the hotel are disgusting. Most of the toilets don't even flush. Also it's a very loud resort lots of families and kids. There is not a designated adult pool so we found it hard to find any swimming room in any of the
2 pools. I would say this is more a fami[... read more]ly resort. The food was okay. Hit and miss everyday. All their drinks are made with that sugary syrup mix. Hard to even drink after a couple of days. They only serve instant decaf coffee which is terrible. The rooms are okay but the cleaning products they use are extremely strong scented. Really the only positive for us was the staff they work really hard and are very friendly. I think a lot of them are overworked. It's such a busy resort it seems like it's almost unmanageable for the staff.

Riu Playa Blanca: Great vacation
Over all, we had nice vacation .Weather was incredible, area has nice walking beaches, not far from the hotel. No complains on variety of food, not too much, but very tasty. Great quality of fruits and vegetables, always fresh fish. Perhaps service require some improvement, especially waitresses with bringing any drinks during meals.

Riu Santa Fe: Great Resort
I was at the resort in April 2023 and had a wonderful stay! The rooms had recently been renovated and were nice, food was good (lot's of variety), never had to wait too long for a drink and the grounds were beautiful and impeccably kept. For me the only downside was the evening entertainment which I found to be lacking. Having said that I would definitely go back!

Riu Flamingos: Disappointing
Pros: friendly staff, nice beach, Michael Jackson evening show was good
Cons: no pool or beach servers, food was very bland and a la Cartes weren't any better than the buffets, standard room is very small, in order to avoid "chair gate" you need to get up at 6am to secure your spot, adult entertainment was limited to a nightly show - no bingo nights, karaoke, trivia, etc.

Riu Playa Blanca: Amazing resort
The hotel was fantastic. The rooms were spacious and clean. Had 2 minor issues and the problem was fixed within an hour or less. Pools were busy. It was good to see life guards making sure children stayed out of the adult pool. They maybe should put more signs going into the adult pool. Staff was always cleaning. Very friendly.

I love that you have access to the other resort Montego Bay. Workers are so friendly, there’s an event or show every night, foam party on fridays I mean I had a blast. Food is pretty good. Some meals
are bland but then other meals are really tasty so it makes up for it. I definitely recommend this hotel!

Riu Palace Antillas: Almost perfect!
Our priorities in choosing a hotel are safety, cleanliness and service. The Riu Palace Antillas more than exceeded our expectations. The entire hotel was impeccably maintained and we never worried about our safety or that anyone would violate our belongings at the beach or around the pool. The service was superb; requests handled promptly and efficiently. A staff member was never more than a few steps away. The food was fantastic, especially the 4 restaurants, the Italian being our favorite.[... read more]
The only criticism we would have is the amount of activity and music around the pool. There are 2 pools, a smaller swim up bar and directly beside it a larger “quieter†pool with a pathway separating the pools from the beach area. From about noon until 5 every day the entertainment staff hooked up their speakers to engage the pool guests in games, activities, dancing etc. It would have been nice if the “quieter†pool was a little further way.
A few notes for first-timers…
- Exchange your dirty pool/beach towels at the end of the day so you have them to reserve your palapas/pool chairs early the next morning. For front row palapas, you need to be there by about 6:00. 7:00 gets you second or third row (which really isn’t bad!). There always seemed to be palapas available, albeit closer to the pool). Each palapa has a number but we left a book to identify which was ours…just in case we forgot the number.
- Make sure you download the Riu app and go to “Bars and Restaurantsâ€. You will find the menus, hours and a description of the restaurants/bars. There are QR codes to scan at each restaurant instead of menus (although they are available if you don’t have your phone).
Besides the noise issue, we really did enjoy our stay and give full credit to the staff and management at RIU Hotels – they are top class!

Riu Republica: A great resort!
I love Dominica for starters. I enjoyed the Riu Republica. Let's start with positives...we were too far from the main pools/buffet, etc upon arrival and called to switch rooms...they switched us immediately. The rooms are bright and clean. The double sinks and huge shower were awesome. There are so many pools and we never had to fight for chairs or lounge tables. There were fresh towels until about 4:30...not a issue. The main buffet was excellent. Lots of choices and continual favorites daily. [... read more]We loved our servers Jorge and Esmerelda. There are several Ala cartes however, they are all buffet as well which meant you didn't have to reserve but there was no real change from the buffet. We went to the Taj Mahal two times...I really enjoyed it as I love Indian food. The appies were buffet then they brought 5 dishes to sit on burners at your table. NOTE TO THE RIU CHEF....your food was very tasty HOWEVER, too spicy for most. There were people who left mid dinner. There was way too much waste as the portions were too big and then too hot for most. I hope they work on this as it really was lovely.
Now, the cons...only the reception area staff had appropriate English language. The cleaning staff and most servers had very little which made it difficult at times for needs or requests to be understood. At the theatre bar, if you weren't holding money in your hands, you waited (and waited...), only to see a young man being served MULTIPLE tequila shots. He was brandishing money.
The evening entertainment??? I say, what entertainment?! Having been in the DR many times, I guess I was expecting more. They had the same young dancers each night with a different theme, trying to lip sync. AND, the "show" didn't start until 9:30...ugh. The "Neon" party was lame...I kept waiting for more.
We had to call several times for coffee packets and coffee mate and for my coffee needing friend, this didn't go over too well.
The "Riu App" needs work and/or constant monitoring as it would say X restaurant was open and it wasn't. And the entertainment was incorrect so we missed the Circo show.
I believe "adult only" needs to be at least 25 years and up. There were MANY very young teenagers being over served and wearing next to nothing. I dont feel teenagers are adults yet!
We didn't see one security person and this is a fairly big resort.
The beach was raked but the dried seaweed was in big piles. I'm not sure if they remove it weekly? The water was beautiful but rough...a girl we met was tossed about and strained her ankle. We're not beach people so we only went one afternoon for pictures. The vendors weren't a big bother...they took " no thank you" well. Spray your legs and feet as there are sand fleas at the beach. Take your shoes to the deck too as they can travel in your treads!
We took a free ride to the flea market, right down the road...there, the vendors were quite insistent and we felt harrassed. We were 2 women so not sure if they're less so with men? Most shops carry similar stuff and you need to haggle.
We didn't do any excursions. I felt our sunwing person "Little Sammy" was a bit harsh and a wee bit masonganistic...if he called my friend "mamacita" one more time, there might have been trouble! He told us if we were going to the Jungle or Pink party at the other Riu, we should expect cocaine and weed and craziness. Regardless to say, we didn't go. We did see a young girl returning, dressed in pink, passed out and in a wheelchair 😞
All in all it was a very good, relaxing trip at a beautiful, well maintained resort. The positives far outweighed the negatives.
There were no COVID reminders at all. I saw very few masks.

Riu Flamingos: Another nice Riu!
Riu is a great chain, usually always enjoy our time at one.
My only complaint is that the swim up pool should be Adults only- all of it not part of it. Kids don't need to see what happens, and the splashing in the drinks is a little gross. Of course the rooms are going to smell when you first get there, this climate is not like Canada and it is humid. Go down to relax enjoy the hot sun, and don't complain cause you can't get a server near the pool. move your body and grab a drink and check out [... read more]the great people around you.
Food do the restaurants. food at Italian and the steak house was good, same as the Japanese's.
Tip the workers, they bring you coffee, or clear your tables or make your favorite drink a buck will not hurt.
I think I do like Mazatlán over this resort.

Riu Latino: Very Nice
Everything is very clean, staff is constantly working. Service is excellent, every time it was more than expected. Tips might’ve helped as we always tip but it hasn’t worked at other resorts. Pool and chair selection was never an issue. Beach is beautiful, water slides were unexpected as we thought it was only as the sister Dunmar location. Food was great but the alacarte’s could be one step better to becoming a fabulous resort. Great experience, great staff.

The resort grounds were very well maintained and interior was always clean. The staff were all friendly. The food was excellent. Very much appreciated the vegetarian options. The only down side was if you required anything to be done for your room, the front desk were very slow at responding and had to be reminded. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay very much.
