Paradisus Los Cayos: A Cuban Resort

As usual with Cuba, AMAZING people/staff, and AMAZING beaches. ROOMS - We had a swim up suite in family block and a regular suite in the family block on the second floor. Swim up suite was disappointing, I think we got the only one without an outdoor shower and bali bed. It wasn't very clean when we arrived, even though we had to wait for it to be cleaned, whereas the other room smelled nice and was very clean every day. FOOD - It's Cuba, so little variety. But they did their best. It woul [... read more]d have been nice to see some fries, at least, somewhere. No kids corner at the buffet. Snack bar only had pizza and sandwiches, sometimes no pizza. Smoothie bar had no smoothies. Only ice cream. I rarely saw the a la carte restaurants open. And only one buffet was open - the no "Market Grill", though people eating at the buffet sat there. And the buffet opened for dinner at 7pm! I personally think it's a little late, especially with kids. KID-FRIENDLINESS - Nothing advertised was open... there was no kids section of the buffet, the kids water park was closed off with red tape, and the park was in disrepair (found glass several times in the sand at the park). So, the kids section was always deserted. One poor guy sitting day after day, with no kids because the entire kid zone was basically closed (and our room faced this "kids park") All in all, I expected more from the resort.

Melia Las Americas: Perfect Balance of Golf & Relaxation

Second time at this resort and enjoyed every minute of it. Booking the Golf Tee times online was perfect and we were out and playing without any issues. We would recommend paying the extra and booking "Level". We had a gorgeous first floor room overlooking the beach and it was literally 5 steps to the beach or the pool. Level Concierge Service: Great service and very attentive - Thank you Laura, David & Yohandra, you were all very helpful Room: HUGE, clean and comfortable. Great water p [... read more]ressure and hot water for your shower. Restaurants: Paying extra for the Level gets you a sit down Breakfast and Lunch at Limencello. Great food and amazing people. Shout out to Osgladys and her manager for the great service and they make the best Margarita Pizza's!!! Buffet: Food was Plentiful and delicious. Thank you for the great service Luis Beach: Amazing! Clean white sand and warm ocean water. Great service at the Level Private Beach with Bar Service to your Palapa. Thank you Guillermo for working your butt off and remembering everyone's order! Thank you to Raoul for the extra padded seats for the lounge chairs. Despite the issues Cuba is having with food shortages which everyone around the world is experiencing, they did a fantastic job with creativity, flavour and choice. We loved it here and will come again.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: This resort was rated a 5 star but is really a 2 star.

We have been going to all inclusive resorts for over 40 years and this is the worst resort we have ever been to. Grounds need maintenance (exposed wiring, closed hot tubs, closed restaurant and bar. First rooms we were given were a 3rd, floor walk up that was old and smelly. We were moved to newer rooms after complaining. Food was terrible best meal of the day was an omelet for breakfast or a hot dog for lunch. Everything was either chicken or pork and casserole dishes. Beach was great and you could see it was once a beautiful resort. But it has terrible management. Paradisus is supposed to be a higher end resort in the Melia Group but we would never come back.

Tryp Cayo Coco: A great place to stay!

The rooms are a little dated but air works great very clean the grounds were kept very clean gardens were beautiful a la carts were fabulous staff was awesome all of them from the front desk to the gardeners waitresses and waiters bartenders maids entertainers all were friendly and helpful !

Melia Cayo Coco: Post COVID Review

My husband and I visited end of Feb 2023. We had a lovely visit and value for money, this is a great resort, despite some of the limitations already spoken about re: variety of food (before COVID food was plentiful and lots of variety) and variety of liquor (there was no gin or vodka so we drank scotch and soda). Airport arrival was smooth and organized. Air Transat had no delays (as opposed to the SunWing horror stories). Check in was smooth (as per usual). Beach and pool were beautiful (as pe [... read more]r usual). Lunch at the beach on Thursday was lobster (fabulous! Kudos to the chefs!). People were very friendly (as per usual). We met new friends and had fun playing pool every night. We had lunch at Lenny’s ($25CAN per seafood plate, $5CAN per beer). Location is beautiful and peaceful-spent an hour there just beach-combing. Taxi was $35CAN - this includes both ways. Did a private 1/2 day birdwatching tour which was Excellent, super interesting, highlight of our trip. Yes, we would love to go again, hoping that the supply chain issues get better and the prices stay relatively modest in comparison with other countries. Melia Jardines del Rey: Beautiful Resort

We stayed here for a week the beginning of March with a group of 10 people and we all had a Fabulous time. The entire staff are really amazing from the awesome entertainment staff to the awesome pool bar staff and restaurant staff. The resort is very clean and the rooms are nice some rooms/buildings along with other areas of the resort are being upgraded but this all takes time. For only being open for a short time since Covid I was very impressed how well this resort is being ran and looked.  [... read more]The Beach is just gorgeous. The nightlife is fun but repetitive. The food is food and that’s what it is in Cuba, nobody starved on our vacation, breakfast was always delish, yes sometimes no bacon or bread for toast but when people throw mounds on their plates it will not last. The Pizza bar was exceptionally delish, we had that everyday for lunch, suppers were pretty much the same every night at the buffet, we didn’t try any of the specialty restaurants. Vacation is what you make of it period, if you want or need something that you think may not be there just take it with you (bagels, snacks, certain booze etc). The bugs or mosquitoes really attacked some people in our group but I personally didn’t get any bites so bring bug spray if your concerned with that. All in all it was a fabulous vacation where we made friends with staff and other vacationers. I really don’t have complaints on this resort and we are looking forward to going back ❤️

Melia Jardines del Rey: Affordable, friendly, and fun

Had a great time here, the staff was amazing, the resort was clean beaches were amazing. The entertainment was great and fun to participate in. We took our two children, and there was always P plenty for them to do. Excellent snorkelling. Recommend taking your own gear. The food was ok. Typical for Cuba. Always lots of options.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Good staff

I would categorize our stay here as middle of the road, the staff were mostly friendly and the resort is decent shape over all like anywhere in Cuba they do the best they can with what they have. Several shortages were experienced but this is common place right now anywhere in the world overall I would give this resort a solid 3 our of 5. Sol Palmeras: The best staff!!!

A long, beautiful beach and stunning blue water. Older hotel but very clean and appealing to the eye. The food is good for Cuba. Lots of delicious drinks, especially the coffee in the mail lobby. Outstanding, kind staff. My second visit and I'll return again.

Melia Cayo Coco: Wonderful Resort

Melia Cayo Coco…beautiful and very walkable beach, friendly and accommodating staff, everything very clean, good food. There were some shortages…vodka and fruit juices but nothing that impacted our holiday, We are planning a return next year!

Melia Internacional: Good

Hotel was good , the beach was very good food not very good service at bar fair, not a lot choice of fruit or lettuce ,coffee not very good, the same drink everyday was different, overall was fair,I won't going back.

Melia Cayo Coco: Melia Cayo Coco

The Hotel has older buildings but they are in good condition and kept quite clean. The Staff is very friendly and helpful. There was good entertainment every night in both the Lobby and Theater. The Food in the Buffet was the best that we have experienced in Cuba, on par with some resorts in other countries. The specialty restaurants were acceptable.

Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: A Beautiful Oasis To Enjoy An Adventure!

My Goodness, what a lovely resort! My wife and I just returned from Luna/Mares and we loved it there. This was my second time there and a first for my wife. Now that it`s post covid and the resorts are open again, I would like to mention that their were only slight changes from when I was there before. First of all the liquor selection lacked the variety prior to covid. If you love rum then your fine but it would have been nice to have a wider variety to choose from. Of course there was also beer on tap and wine, the white house wine was good (drank that a lot) but the red not so pleasant. Remember that you are in a country which is struggling to get back to normal after covid (and it was very difficult for the Cuban people and their economy) so give them some time to have selections like before. Secondly, the food selection for the most part was great. I nor my wife were ever disappointed when we ate. The only exception that I have is that the dessert selection was really lacking (not in the amount but in how good they tasted) other than that we were not disappointed. There were slight problems with the food but not enough to really complain about. Now the resort was so very clean, It looked amazing, and as a guest all the staff were polite and helpful, very friendly indeed. We had an upgrade to an ocean view room and it was sooooo perfect! Such a clean well kept room and the view of the pool and ocean was spectacular! The wonderful lady which cleaned our room did such a wonderful job. As mentioned, all the staff were wonderful, pleasant and kind! Now the beach was just picture perfect! So clean and the water so clear. Only one morning did we have a problem getting a lounge chair. (There were many lounge chairs that were broken, hopefully they will repair or replace them soon). Other than that the beach is truly a paradise. It needs to be mentioned that the views from the resort are just fantastic with the ocean on one side and mountains (large hills) on the other side. It`s so wonderful because it`s not one resort after another along a beach. This is a paradise and I am looking forward to going back this coming July and then next March again with my wife. For some reason this is resort is rated 31/2 stars. I truly believe that it is a 4 star resort for sure!

Tryp Cayo Coco: Relaxed and simple

Tryp resort gives you what you need with excellent staff service and tried and true facilities. Customer service was excellent, al of the staff are courteous and friendly and make your stay easy and comfortable. Restaurants serve amazing foods and you can never be bored with the variety.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Making a comeback

This resort was closed during covid and is in need of some Tlc. We could see maintenance staff and gardeners working diligently to spruce up the hotel by painting and repairing and trimming the gardens. It was looking better every day. The food was good, beach was beautiful with great waiter service on the beach. The pizza snack bar was good. The coffee shop wonderful in the morning for a cappuccino. Melia Cayo Coco: Nice, small resort

Very, nice small resort. Beautiful walking beach, stunning views. Lots of loungers around pool and beach. We did not use the pool, but it looked lovely. Food was very good . We only ate at the buffet and were very impressed with the variety and presentation. There were some shortages of liquor, but this was not a big problem for us. All in all we had a good time and would return.

Melia Las Antillas: Great resort

nothing to complain about, great beach, great food, and great weather, 30C and 26C water, a trip to Havana with Sunwing is $75USD, but there was some delay on departure from Calgary, 5hrs to Varadero, 6hrs back to Calgary

Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: beautiful ocean front

This was a nice surprise my first time at this resort. The rooms were clean, staff very friendly and helpful. The beach is beyond beautiful with crystal clear ocean water. The food was good but the selection not so much. I liked the 24 hour coffee bar and will definitely plan on returning!

Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: Worry free

The people make the resort and in this case they made it beautiful! Welcoming, clean, and friendly. With today’s economy and the world situation, realize some things are difficult to get, but there is plenty of food to eat plenty of drinks to drink but more importantly, plenty of reasons just to sit back and relax. We have so much here in Canada yet the resort also made me realize what we are missing and that is friendship and humility and joyful times. Thank you so much.

Melia Internacional: Extremely Disappointing. Do not recommend.

We had an extremely disappointing and frustrating experience during our one-week stay at the Melia Internacional. We made our concerns known to the staff, but the issues persisted, and we were ultimately unable to enjoy our vacation. This was not the "modern resort with premium amenities" advertised. Our recommendation to anyone considering staying at this hotel would be to consider another option. Check-in - My husband and I travelled with our adult son. I have a medical condition and use a  [... read more]rollator because I tire easily when walking and experience balance issues. I explained this during check-in and requested a centrally located room (given the large size of the resort) and asked that our room be close to our son's room (so he could assist us as needed). We were given a room at one of the furthest ends of the resort, with a tub I could not safely get into. Our son's room was located all the way on the other side of the resort (and had a walk-in shower). After making several calls and going back and forth to the front desk, we were finally told we could stay in our son's room, and our son was assigned a room a few doors away from us. It was a long, frustrating and physically exhausting process, which took so much time away from our first day. Room - The condition and cleanliness of our room was disgusting. The hotel claims to follow "very strict programs of hygiene and quality . . . ", but we can honestly say we witnessed a huge shortcoming by the hotel in meeting those standards. We have photos we'd like to share with you. - dirty, damaged mattress pad - dirty telephone cord on bed night table - bird poop on lamp shade - disgusting stains on door frame to toilet room - disgusting stain on door handle to toilet room - disgusting stains on throw carpet beside bed - dirty sheets - dirty glass door to toilet room - residue and scum on shower floor, with musty odor - stains on floor, especially in toilet room - rusted, damaged furniture and bathroom mirror In addition, the door to our room did not close properly and the air conditioning in our son's room did not work for the first two days. The "modern" light switches didn't always work and we found ourselves having to contend with pink neon lights (even in the bathroom). There were a lot of ants and our son had to put his sneakers on the table after finding many ants in them. Towels - We had two bath towels and two hand towels in our room on the first day of our stay. We included our hand towels with the bath towels to be replaced with clean ones, but they never replenished our hand towels again. We repeatedly asked for hand towels and we were told someone would be bringing some to our room, but they never did. When we asked why, we were told the hotel had run out of hand towels. Most of the towels were not in great condition and had stains on them. Food and Drinks - the food at the buffet is limited and repetitive. The food at the snack bar left a lot to be desired - there were four options and none of them were good. No french fries! The pizza never seemed to be available and the wait time could vary from 20 minutes to "later", even over lunch hours - we came across a few rude staff members, who refused to make eye contact or acknowledge our questions. We found ourselves ordering several drinks at a time because they often would not come back to the table, no matter how long we were there - drinks at the pool and beach area bars come in small plastic cups, requiring several trips to get a decent amount to drink. Options were very limited because there seemed to be shortages of ingredients and mostly rum based. Vodka and tequila were not available. - the resort's "ice cream shop" had only one flavour of ice cream available (chocolate)! - the mini bar in the room was empty and there were was a coffee machine, but no coffee Wi-Fi - Getting on the Wi-Fi could take many many many attempts, sometimes with no success. The connectivity was very poor and it would regularly kick you off your connected device for no apparent reason. Hotel - We read that this hotel was built in 2018, but we experienced issues that one would expect in an older hotel. I found it especially frustrating that I could not get in and out of the elevator without having to lift my rollator over the transition in and out of the elevator. The main buffet had several chairs with broken arm rests and tables with damaged, stained surfaces. Some of the walkway concrete was damaged, as were the stairs from the lobby to the ground floor. Room Upgrade - We paid to upgrade both our rooms to "Classic Room Oceanview". Our room had the ocean view shown in the website's room description. However, our son's room had only a partial sea view, which is considered a Classic Room. The fee our son paid for his upgrade needs to be refunded please. We understand things are challenging, but our experience at this hotel was unacceptable. We hope to enjoy the beautiful beach in Varadero again one day, but it will never be at a Melia hotel.
