Punta Peninsula Varadero: Beautiful resort that needs some improvements

The resort is beautiful, we had a suite, it was large and spacious overlooking the beachfront. There is a very large beachfront that spans the length of the resort. Everything is readily accessible which is great with small child. But there were a couple issues: 1) There are no take out snack bars or grills at all and none on the beach. The 2 snack bars are eat-in style - people want take out or grills on the beach! 2) The public washrooms throughout the resort were disgusting - in most washroom [... read more]s half the stalls were broken so there were always line ups, which was very inconvenient because I got sick the entire trip! There were 6 of us travelling and I was the only one that got sick - but really sick, I don't necessarily blame the resort though, you can get traveller's diarrhea anywhere. I did visit the doctor on the resort and he was really good - very helpful and they sent to pick up medication for me. If the resort improved the 2 issues above it would be perfect, the beach is beautiful.

Palma Real: Lovely beaches & walking distance to Downtown

This hotel has close access to awesome beaches with daily entertainment. Located next to downtown with lots of little tourist shops, parks and restaurants. The rooms are clean and spacious, nice spacious bathrooms. Good selection of foods, including salads. Service a little slow though.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Decent resort - poor service

This is my second trip to Cuba, and my first time to Varadero. Having never been there, I had assumed that the further you are on the peninsula, the better the beaches - this is wrong. The best beaches were actually closer to Varadero. The food is average, which is to be expected for Cuba. What really soured our experience is the level of service we received, and the way we were treated by the staff. We stayed for 10 days but only managed to get our beach towels changed once. The grounds are lar [... read more]ge, and depending on where you are, the walk can be long. There is a shuttle passing by, but it wasn't very reliable. The cleaning staff was also rude. Overall, it was an average experience, salvaged by the constant out-of-resort activities we were engaged in. I would recommend you look elsewhere.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Great resort and great experience!

I stayed at this hotel for 7 nights from Jan 1-8, 2015. This hotel is beautiful - it is located towards the east end of the Varadero strip close to the Marina. This means the beach is beautiful but also means you are situated further away from the town of Varadero (although it is still reachable via hop-on hop-off bus or can). The en [... read more]tertainment staff do a great job of trying to engage people, but of course activities are more fun when everyone wants to participate. The food is so so, but it's one of the better hotels in Varadero compared to previous experiences. The nightlife is ok - great entertainment shows and the disco can be great if you bring some people with you! We specifically went to do some salsa dancing and the DJ played salsa for us once we asked about 5 nights during our week. The pool is great and the beach is beautiful - the fun is at the beach in the morning and at the main pool in the afternoon. Rooms are large and clean - our chamber maid did a great job of keeping our room clean and always provided is with an exciting new creature made of towels daily. My only recommendation for this hotel is that you should bring Muskol, with the highest percentage of Deet possible as well as after bite - Mosquitos at night are very apparent and very annoying. It might have been the time of year we travelled, but having these supplies and spraying your legs and arms before going out at night would be helpful! We visited Havana for a day and it was well worth the 2-hour bus ride. Havana is inescapably beautiful, historical and entertaining! Stay away from the tourist traps and try to explore the quieter streets. All-in-all this was a great hotel and while some things are simple, it makes for a great week away. Quick note - if you walk across the street to the marina, you can get free wi-fi!

Starfish Varadero: Great Resort!

I enjoyed a fantastic 7 nights at Aguas Azules in Varedero, Cuba. My room was clean and well air-conditioned, as were the majority of the indoor locations at the resort (dining room, lobby, etc.). The service was very friendly at the bar, in the dining room, as well as room service. The swimming pools were awesome, and so was the beach! Night entertainment was very professional and enjoyable. Barcelo Solymar: Barcelo Solymar

Went last year fantastic. This year the resort was a party place for lots of rude vulgar spitting French young adults. What raised these people is beyond me. This was to be a relaxing trip and turned out to be far from it . The local people and staff were great they were just unable to do anything about disrespectful young adults.

Roc Barlovento: Cheap and cheerful

This is an older resort and a little outdated to say the least. The reception staff need to be more pleasant and welcoming if not at least helpful. Having said that all other staff were wonderful. The place is spotless... the resort is smaller which I particularly liked.

Melia Las Americas: Amazing Resort and Staff

I thought the hotel in general was amazing. The lobby was beautiful all the way up to are room. We had great views from were ever you stay. The staff were awesome and warming. Beaches are to die for. Golf unreal. I would go back tomorrow if I could!! See you next year!!!!

Melia Marina Varadero: Amazing

Overall good experience !!! We stayed in a one bedroom apartment because of my 19 months old daughter was with us and I have needed a kitchen. So, apartment was nice as shown in pictures. Beach was beautiful. It was amazing to travel in a double decor open bus.

Starfish Varadero: Nice resort

My 6 year old daughter and I travelled to this resort for 2 weeks in jan , we had a great time ! The pools were always nice and clean (a little on the chilly side though) The beach was amazing !! Beautiful turquise water. Billy (the beach security) did an amazing job to make sure you could relax and not be bugged by locals trying to sell you things! Melia Las Americas: Simply amazing

I can't find a single single thing to nitpick about. It's simply a great place. Staff is super nice and helpful. Loved the japanese restaurant experience. HIghly recommended. It would be nice if wifi had more range but that's just icing.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Amazing resort

The resort was beautiful...grounds were well maintained, rooms clean, friendly people, great food....the pool area was amazing...there was always something to do if your wanted or just relax by the pool or the beach...

Mar Del Sur: Lots of bang for your buck

Good things: Beautiful pool, nightly entertainment, great music and sound system, ping pong, basketball, pool table, kids playground, location, big rooms, beautiful hotel. You get a lot for one of the lowest priced hotels in Cuba. Bad things: Room was clean but smelled musty - the AC helped (room 204, staircase 12), food quality was no worse then any other hotel in Cuba but the variety was poor (I won't be eating rice and beans again for a very long time), we had an ant infestation for a few da [... read more]ys but you get that at home too so no biggy.

Starfish Varadero: Amazing beach.. everything else meh

The first night we were there our room was a total disaster, thank god for the Sunwing rep that was such a help the next day and changed rooms. The resort itself is old and not many things on the resort were open. Nightly entertainment was very good but not much after dinner time which sucked. The rooms were clean and the maid was so helpful! First time in Cuba and didnt like the food, first couple days nothing was labelled. Next time Id definitely try another resort.

Roc Arenas Doradas: Nice

The hotel was clean some of the staff very friendly. Food was okay the alcarts not very good. The flies were awful don't spray at all. Beach was okay except for the sand fleas. Overall for the price was good. Shows at night were good but the best was the Michael Jackson this was excellent. The lobby bar was great but pool bar an beach bar wasn't

Sirenis Tropical Varadero: Disappointed

- We did not have hot water at all while at the resort. From Day 1 to Day 4, we had cold water only in our room, Day 4 we had about 3 minutes of lukewarm water. Day 7 we had warm water only. We went to the desk daily and they kept saying they would send someone to repair. At one point, we were informed the entire hotel had no hot water. - The room was full of mildew and on day 3, my Asthma made me very ill as I am allergic to mould and mildew. We could not turn on the Air conditioning as the system was blowing nasty air into our room. I had to take my ventolin puffer more than 10 times per day as I coughed and gasped almost my entire trip. We could not do excursions after day 4 as I was too ill to attempt any physical activity. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!!! - The safe did not work until the second day so we had to carry our valuables with us all the time as the technician could not repair on our first day. - I expected 4 A la carte restaurant on site. They only have one A la carte available per day and if you don't book in before 9 am, the 24 seatings for the entire resort is booked. If I had known this, I would NOT have booked at this hotel. I was expecting the 4 star rating hotel I booked. - The cleaning staff were pleasant as were the bar staff. The counter staff are not helpful and shrug people off in a rude manner. - Towels were lacking and I could not rent a towel as there were none available for the first 2 days of my visit. - The public bathrooms were filthy and damaged. Sinks and toilets were only at 50% usage capacity. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!

Hotel Los Cactus: Wonderful and Relaxing

I found the Breezes Varadero meet my expectations. The grounds were kept beautifully, the rooms were spacious. The beach was fabulous,mother nature was at her best. Pool side was good.Though the hotel was a bit dated it suited our needs with only two stories and a smaller venue. It was quiet in block B and that is what we wanted. Stay away from sausages and like food that weren't cooked enough.We really enjoyed the special meals at the Grill and Martinos was excellent. Just be ready to tip for service in the restaurants. I noticed the servers in the buffet would put down their own bags at tables and wait for guests. We spent quite a bit on tips on a daily basis. All in all a great and relaxing holiday.

Hotel Bella Costa: excellent resort

The hotel was great and offers many things to do. They had excellent shows at night for all ages. However, the A La Cart restaurants wasn't what I expected. It did not taste like the Italian or Japanese foods that they offered.

Melia Las Americas: fantastic

This was an excellent resort and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend anyone to this place. The people were great, the service was great, just a great place to go to. Lastly, the grounds around the resort were very clean.

Melia Marina Varadero: just ok

We were expecting a lot more for a 1.5 year old resort. It is quite shocking that the rooms have not been maintained well considering it is so new. We were disappointed with the a la carte restaurants. This resort has a lot of potential. The outside grounds and location are beautiful. We liked the short walk to the beach. Had a great time despite our disappointment in the resort.
