Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Great Time!

Excellent resort. The accommodations, friendly staff and the food were major pluses for this resort. The beach was small and the water was fairly dark and choppy. Pool goers will enjoy this resort while those preferring more of a beach vacation will likely want to think twice. Overall excellent resort, although the cost seemed a bit high.

El Dorado Seaside Suites: Super fun resort

Room was spacious and the separate rain shower was awesome! Both day and evening entertainment was fantastic -- loved the Mariachi band and the Cherry Lovers =) plus the acrobatic and fire shows. Many pools with different depths, service and levels of loudness so something for everyone. Food was great as well. Beach itself was so-so.

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: Quality has declined

We have been to this resort 13 times. It seems the quality has declined significantly over the last year. This used to be a good resort. The Tropical restaurant burnt down two days before we arrived. They set up some tents on the grass and served out there about 5 days after we arrived. We wrote a list of things we experienced to remind us not to book again. Ocean Riviera Paradise: OMG OMG OMG

We booked a super saver jr suite(garden view) in Daisy(family) it was a great price But when we got here we asked for an upgrade and for 150 US (works out to 7.50 per day per person) we got a 4th floor suite over looking the pool and you can see the ocean. The buffet is to die for lots and lots of food. Swimming pools are amazing. Big water park area for kids with lifeguards in every pool area. Swimup pool bars There is a adult only area El Beso. There is a golf cart shuttle that runs ba [... read more]ck and forth from lobby to beach from 7am to 1am. The only drawback is that it gets full quickly. That is one of the only drawbacks. But we were at the last building(Eden by the sea) it basically took 10 min to walk to the buffet. There are 6 resturants beside the buffet Only tried the Blue Moon(romantic adults only). It was ok for me but my wife said it was the best seafood stew she had ever tasted. It is a big resort but didn't seem like it. Very very very clean . The staff here are amazing My wife and I have been to many hotels and different resorts . Oh yeah there is a mimi bar in your room that is restocked everyday. If there is one bad thing I really hated was the amount of golf carts that were only for the timeshare people. But we had a great no AMAZING TIME!!!!! I highly recommend it.

The Pyramid Cancun: nice resort

The resort was very nice and clean, the food was top notch, however the beach access was not the greatest. You had to walk up and down 2 flights of stairs to get to the beach. This and the front desk staff would be the biggest down side to this hotel. The shows and the tasting experience at the restaurants were fantastic so were the wait staff. We went after spring break so we missed the crowd of kids, we were in the Pyramid section which was nice and quiet for us, the other side of the Oas [... read more]is seemed to be a little more rowdy.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Great Family Vacation

I traveled here last week with my wife and 2 daughters in their 20's. We loved the resort and food was great! Since we stayed at the luxury resort, we had access to all restaurants. There was a ton to choose from, however book all these on your first day as they fill up fast. The buffet was very good as well. The pool was clean, warm and lots of open seats. The beach however was not as nice as expected but decent. The rocky shore line and limited area to swim in was unexpected and unlike other [... read more] beaches we have visited in the area. Variety of drinks was amazing! However the lobby bar closes early and the 24 hour bar was too out of the way to visit late at night.

Akumal Bay Beach and Spa Resort: Fantastic holiday

My friend and I spent a week here may 6 to may 13th. The service from all staff was incredible. Lazaro in the kitchen,Timhy in the buffet and SAMANTHA HERNANDEZ in animation were the best. We look forward to visiting again soon. The only con is the length of time, wish it was longer.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Amazing family vacation!

This is our third resort and probably the most beautiful one. The property was beautiful, staff very friendly, pools were nice. On the down side, room smelled very humid and restaurant food was just so-so. But I would go back in a heartbeat!

Riu Palace Las Americas: 5 star experience at the Riu Palace Las Americas

This might be lengthy but I feel the more details you know, the better you are equipped to make a decision. We flew from Toronto, Canada to Cancun Mexico via Sunwing. Despite all of the bad publicity Sunwing has received lately, we did not have any negative experiences on this trip. This was a 6 day trip for us and, as experienced travellers, we travel lightly with carry-ons only. The flight was 3 1/2 hours down and we were processed efficiently at the Cancun airport. As the Riu Palace Las Ameri [... read more]cas is about a 1/2 hour ride from the airport we purchased only a couple of cans of beer for the ride. Cans are USD $6 each from the vendors at the airport - a bit of a rip, but better than the USD $8 they were charging a couple of years ago. Upon arrival at the RPLA, we registered quickly, but were told that our rooms wouldn't be ready for several hours, so we did some exploring. The resort is a fairly compact property so everything from pools to bars to restaurants is a short walk away. The room: At 2:30 we were told that our Junior Suite was ready so we offloaded our luggage into the room. The room was spacious for a Jr Suite with a nice king bed (that can be split into two small double beds), large flatscreen TV, and a mini fridge that was stocked daily with beer (Dos Equis cans), soft drinks and water. There is also a liquor dispenser in every room with 4 premium liquors stocked in it and a coffee maker with both medium roast and decaff coffee. Lots of closet space, with both a digital safe, an iron and robes within. There is also a large 8 drawer dresser. A nice sized balcony with ocean & lagoon views greeted us as well. The washroom is a good size with double sinks, nice tiling and a large shower. A good quantity of shower gels, soaps and conditioners were supplied as well. 24 hour room service comes with every room and there are menus supplied in the room for all of the available room service choices. TIP: leave your air-conditioning on low with the fan on to keep the humidity lower in the room. TIP: Do NOT drink the tap water. Use the bottled water for drinking, tooth brushing etc. If you need more water there is a mini fridge in the 24 hour lounge next to the lobby, that is stocked with water and soft drinks. We usually took a couple of bottles of water every time we passed by it. You will need to put your room card into a card plug just inside the door to activate the electricity, and air conditioning. If you need to charge phones or tablets, do it at night with your room card plugged in. Pools: As you exit the main doors from the lobby towards the ocean beach there is a large main pool straight ahead of you. It is surrounded by large covered chaise lounges. If you go from there to the right you will find the "party" pool. There is a standup bar on the left side of that pool, and a swim up (pee-bar) bar on the right side of the pool. This is the pool that is used for Aqua Fit, volleyball games, etc. Music is pretty loud latin techno-pop, so it will either be to your liking or not. If you go left from the main pool, there are a large number of loungers under shade covers that extend all the way to the "quiet" pool. There are waiters serving drinks all around the pool areas and the beach. If you walk down the stairs from the patio areas around the pool, you will find yourself on the beach. It's not as wide a beach as the ones we have been to in the Mayan Riviera, but its still a good size and has some length to it, as you can walk down to the Riu Cancun next door and beyond. TIP: your wristband from the RPLA will allow you to use any of the facilities at the Riu Cancun as well. The RPLA is an adults-only facility, while the Riu Cancun next door is a family friendly facility. The beach is well maintained and there are a variety of beach vendors, but they will not approach you if you give them a polite "No thanks". The food: Definitely a positive at this resort - the food is excellent. The buffet is excellent and with the themes changing daily, there is always something new to try. My personal preference is seafood and there was always a good variety of that from grilled mani-mahi, grouper and squid, as well as deep fried sea bass and ceviche. If you are into steaks, roast beef, pork dishes, chicken, pasta, pizza, salads, and desserts there are way too many choices to describe. Mimosas or straight champagne (it will probably be a good cava, cremant or prosecco - not sure which) are available at every meal in the buffet. Kudos to my friend Ismael, who provided us with 5 star service and a smile every time we visited the buffet. There are 5 a la carte restaurants to choose from. We experienced the steak house (surf & turf tenderloin steak & lobster tails were to die for), The Krystal Fusion restaurant (also very good) and the Italian restaurant (I recommend the portobello mushroom lasagna). My wife said the cod was excellent as well. In a slightly different twist from other resorts we have been to, the Italian restaurant is also open for lunch time sittings, which is when we experienced it. We did not eat at the Japanese restaurant, or the Mexican restaurant. Our friends did try the Mexican restaurant and rated it quite well. Drinks: Beer is Dos Equis draft at the pools, but you can order a variety of bottled Dos Equis brands (Dos Equis, DE Ambar, Sol, Tecate Light) at the buffet and a la carte restaurants. This resort is all Dos Equis, so you won't find Corona here. Liquor at the RPLA is all premium brand, so typically vodka at the pool bars will be Absolut or Smirnoff, gin will be Tanqueray or Beefeater. depending on personal preference, you may have to tell the bartender to go easy with dispensing, otherwise it's pretty easy to quickly get intoxicated. All of the bartenders know their mixed drinks and cocktails well, so you can order pretty much anything and they will know how to make it. My fave is a Dirty Monkey, with fresh banana blended in. There is a Cappuccino Bar that serves great capps/coffees/lattes as well as pastries just to the left of the main street doors in the lobby. It's open for most of the day, but not in the early morning. Management - see my suggestion below about opening this bar early in the morning. If you are feeling the urge to eat in the middle of the night, there is a 24 hour lounge next to the lobby near the elevators. Here you will find a variety of both hot (pizza, nachos) and cold foods (sandwiches, donuts, salads), as well as a mini fridge stocked with water and soft drinks. There is also a coffee/cappuccino machine and a set of draft beer taps. TIP: If you want a coffee before the buffet opens at 7 am try to get to the coffee machine in the 24 hour lounge early. By close to 7 am there is quite a line-up for it. If management is reading this, you need at least one more coffee machine installed in the lounge to reduce the line-ups, OR I would suggest opening the Cappuccino Bar at 6:30 am when most people are craving that morning caffeine. Entertainment: A different show every night, most of them pretty good. Kudos to the animation team as they put in really, really long days getting us to participate in pool and beach activities, rehearsing as well as entertaining us at the shows. TIP: there are no washrooms in the theatre, which means you have to walk to the lobby washrooms. If you walk just to the left of the stage and go thru the tall door, it will take you straight into the lobby bar and a much shorter walk to the washrooms. The on-site Renova Spa: pricey, but according to my travel companions, well worth it. A full body wrap and massage will run you USD $149, while a 30 minute back massage will cost USD $69. There is also a small store in the resort just off the lobby that sells a small variety of souvenirs, cigs/cigars, and clothing. There is also a mall just down the street across from the Riu Cancun, called the Plaza Caracol. Souvenirs, clothing, silver, etc can be bought there for very reasonable prices. If you are buying silver, there is one store there out of about three selling jewellery that I would recommend. It's called Sol y Luna Jewelry. Everything is .925 registered silver and they sell by weight and do give you a receipt with the certified weight. It looked to have a Trip Advisor recommendation poster on their window as well. Money TIP: Some people carry USD, which is accepted just about everywhere. I carry both USD (small amount for tips) and MEX pesos for purchases. I order and purchase the pesos in Canada at the bank before we leave as the exchange rate is far better than what you will receive anywhere in Mexico. Most places list their prices in pesos so I prefer to pay in pesos as their conversion from pesos to USD will leave you on the short end once again. TIP on tipping: no it's not required at this resort, but I do reward good service as most of these good people do not make a whole lot of money in the service industry and tips probably help them out a lot. In summary, our experience at the Riu Palace Las Americas was top notch and I would not hesitate to recommend this resort to friends and family. Food, drinks, accommodation and SERVICE are second to none. All facilities are within a short walking distance.

Riu Vallarta: Great stay!

The place was beautiful and clean. There were no seaweeds at all on the warm beach. I love that it wasn't over populated. Even though it was a family resort, the noise level was nice as the adult pools were separate from the kids area. Really enjoyed a relaxing week!

Iberostar Waves Paraiso Beach: Good resort - hit or miss food

Everything was great however sometimes the buffet was great, sometimes it was meh. If your not a picky eater you should be able to find something that you enjoy most meals - but it was rare to want get seconds on anything.

Grand Oasis Cancun: Amazing resort!

Very satisified with the service provided at Grand Oasis Cancun. The nightlife is wonderful. The food was okay. Nothing special in regards to quality. This resort is the best for single individuals. It's not for relationships or married couples. Everyone is there to party and enjoy their time!

Iberostar Waves Paraiso Beach: Will definitely travel here again

We traveled with our two boys both under a year and a half old. The resort was very accommodating to young children. Extremely large resort however golf carts are willing to pick you up at many locations. Food was fantastic, rooms for extremely clean. We can't wait to come back and visit again

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Beautiful resort, amazing workers, perfect vacation!

The resort was amazing. The pools were perfect and huge. The food was super good. The resort was big but everything you needed was close. Wifi wasn’t included (only down fall) great workers. Clean resort. Good shows at night with different groups of people. All the palm trees around were beautiful. Had a dolphin show as well as a mall, bowling alley, etc. All in all, amazing resort. Would definitely come back to the Barcelo!

El Dorado Seaside Palms: Lovely resort

We had a great time. Our room was spacious including a large balcony. The staff were so friendly with everyone always saying hola. We enjoyed the nightly entertainment, the food was delicious and the bartenders were great at their jobs.

Hotel Xcaret Mexico: Spectacular Resort, Amenities, and Staff

The Hotel Xcaret is so unique and innovative, I don't think there is any other place in the world like this. It is an ultramodern resort that is architecturally designed to resemble Mayan ruins. Mexican art and culture is displayed with pride, and design elements are classy and sophisticated. The resort uses the natural beauty of Mexico to create a wonderous place where guests can meander down paths, through caves, and over bridges to islands in the lagoons and river. Guests can kayak and paddle [... read more] board up the river and past cliffs, numerous islands, and waterslides hidden in the rocks. The beautiful beach has a swimming area, but has been left mostly natural and wild. Included in your vacation is entrance to multiple adventure parks, historical tours, and activities, so one can be extremely busy or just laze by the beautiful pools and lagoons around the resort if so desired. There are so many peaceful and scenic places to lounge that one can always find a perfect spot. There is no "towel game" here, and always available loungers near the pool, lagoons, or beach. The rooms are all modern and beautiful, and each has its own pretty and unique view. There are multiple places with USB ports (even the balcony), and an AC and lighting system in the room is controlled from the bedside. The cuisine is excellent and each a la carte restaurant, buffet, or snack bar has its own unique decor and ambience. We really liked the sushi bar, the chefs were creative geniuses. The bar service is exceptional and creative as well. Choose your favourite liquor and have them use their mixology expertise to concoct an innovative new cocktail. The place is amazing, but it really was the staff that make the vacation unforgettable. Each and every employee we encountered was gracious, friendly, and sincere. We accidentally left our safe open, and it was never touched even though the maid and towel service had been in the room. Now that is integrity. The human element can make or break a resort, and this resort has extremely dedicated and caring people working there. Hotel Xcaret has set the bar really high, and we will definitely return.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: A Great Place for a Honeymoon

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful honeymoon vacation at the Sian Ka'an from May 1st to May 15th. Our check in was very quick and having requested a quiet, and private room, we received what we asked for, a penthouse suite in building 17. It's at the very far end of the resort behind the activity pool so there is a nice walk back to the main lobby and restaurants. Most of the rooms seem to be quite private and we probably could have taken a room a little closer to the lobby but we have no complaints. Our room was very large with a hot tub and lounge chairs and we enjoyed being up there in the evening watching the stars. The resort has 4 pools. Three of them are close to the Cenote 24 hour snack bar where you can get a delicious lunch, buffet style. The other pool is a whirlpool with a sushi bar next to it. We didn't spend much time at the pools during our stay since the weather was very hot with little breeze. The beach was much nicer with a cooling breeze always coming off the ocean. We tried many of the restaurants since Sian Ka'an guests have all inclusive privileges at all the other resorts as well, the Coba, Akumal and Tulum. The food was very good at every restaurant. We are active people so we were off the resort for most of each day, only to return in the evening for dinner or to take a shuttle to a restaurant at another resort. We alternated our days by taking an excursion one day and relaxing at the beach the next day. There are many great excursions you can take. Since it is an adults only resort it is generally very quiet except at the activity pool and the lobby where there is entertainment in the evening. We never stayed for the entertainment but returned to our room after dinner so we could go to sleep early and get up early to make the most of the day. The majority of guests appeared to be in their 40's right up to people in their 80's with a handful of younger couples in their 20's and 30's. There were many Canadians as well as people from the UK and some Americans. I have to say that overall the service is outstanding at this resort, very respectful, friendly and hard working. They really do go out of their way to please their guests. Since it was our honeymoon we had a private dinner on the beach arranged for us. We really enjoyed it and we're treated superbly. We found this hotel to be a first rate location for a romantic vacation. You should be aware that this resort is not directly on the beach but a 10 shuttle drive will get you there easily. We really are beach bums though so we are not sure if we would return to this resort in the future. We are not ones to be sitting around the pool every day. Our next resort will probably be smaller with a room close to the beach but don't let that deter you. If you are looking for a beautiful resort with lush vegetation with an ambiance of elegance and style then you can't go wrong with the Sian Ka'an. Pros 1. Service in the restaurants, bars and drivers and excursion staff as well as house keeping. 2. Food in all restaurants. 3. Beauty of the resort - lush vegetation, colourful birds and wildlife. 4. Room 5. Weather - Sunny and hot 12 days in a row with little rain except for the last 3 days with only periodic downpours but still lots of sun. 6. Excursions - too many to count - lots to choose from. 7. Shuttle Service to the beach and other resorts - excellent with very little wait time. Cons 1. Concierge - hit and miss. We like to have coffee in the morning in our room. They took our coffee cups after the first morning and never replaced them after asking them to do so several times. Finally we just grabbed some from the lobby. Sugar and coffee mate never replaced. Had to ask for it. My wife likes cream in her coffee and they had none even in the restaurants, only milk. We requested the honeymoon package and we didn't get it until two days after we got there. Not sure what happened. 2. Butler - non existent. We never met him although we did ask to have the hot tub ready a couple of evenings and it was. 3. Beach - the sand portion is beautiful with white powdery sand and it's long and wide. The incredible amount of seaweed though spoiled it. They work all day trying to remove it but it still comes in. The whole length of the beach had piles at least 2 - 3 feet high. By the second week it seemed somewhat better but swimming in the water you will find seaweed floating everywhere while you swim so I have to say it was the worst beach I've seen because of the seaweed but it would be beautiful if there wasn't any, or very little seaweed. 4. Sian Ka'an Adults Only Beach - always crowded but we could always find a palapa but not in the location we would prefer. There's supposed to be waiter service on the beach. We would be served maybe once in the morning when we first got there but the waiter would never come back for the rest of the day. Not good. Also there was no place to get lunch. There was a snack bar close by that was only open for 1 hour from 1 pm to 2 pm. so if you missed it you were out of luck. Akumal Adults Only beach was much better, quieter, easier to get a palapa and a nice infinity pool to swim in that was more refreshing than any other pool that we found. Great beach waiter service compared to Sian Ka'an beach. Very good at coming back regularly to take drink orders. 5. Pool Chair Availability - Almost non existent at Sian Ka'an pools unless you get up real early to get a chair. We gave up on the pools except for a quick swim.

Finest Playa Mujeres by Excellence Group: No worries ...

A wonderful spot to celebrate - in our case, our 50th anniversary with our daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. Whatever we needed was there, in some cases before we even knew we needed it ... like coconut water on the beach late in the afternoon. No worries about what or when we were going to eat, drink, sail, swim, snorkel, SUP, kayak ... or just nap on the couch on our top floor deck.

Riu Dunamar: Beautiful Resort !

The Grounds were so well kept people were out every day doing lawn work and maintenance. The BBQ by the one swim up bar was so good. Steak, Chicken, Burgers, Hot Dogs, Rice and fresh tacos daily you didn't even need to go into the lunch buffet. The main buffet was so delicious and never had to line up such a variety of food. Every thing was within walking distance but I would suggest getting ground zero if you have mobility issues because it is 4 floors and 80 steps to the top they have elevator [... read more]s but only one on each end of the hotel so the walk through the halls could be very long. The rooms were extremely fresh and new very clean. The day time entertainment was good by the party pool ( Renee is the BEST Bartender ) but they need to work on the night time entertainment. We never tried the Ala Cartes because the buffet was so good. The sports bar is also very nice food all day/night and large TV's with computers to use. they have a courtesy room to change in by the sports bar until you get your room or if you have a late flight you can shower before you leave. We Loved everything about this resort and we will definitely return. We do Love the Riu experience.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Great resort

Good size,a lot to offer,amazing gym with great personnel. We been to this resort a few times and will come back. The restaurants are pretty good and we are thankful to the waiters for introducing us to the complere process of making Spanish and Mexican coffee. Service can get challenging on the busy months so we recommend more personnel during those periods. Such as bar pools,reception and restaurants. We are patient people others might not be.Overall a good experience .
