Catalonia Bavaro Resort: Catalonia Bavaro Resort: A GREAT RESORT was our 4th visit there.
The resort was great, we love it. They were doing some renovations which shows that they were putting it back into the resort to make it better for us. The rooms are a good size, the grounds are well kept, and the a la carts have no faults that I found. They have a few small shops that carry the same type of souvenirs as they do in town and they are very well priced, some things were even cheaper at the resort.
They have a large variety of excursions to pick from and you could snorkel righ[... read more]t at the resort and see plenty of different fish.
The beach is quite large and they keep it clean when necessary, from seaweed and such. I found the staff at the Catalonia are very friendly and polite, from the ground keepers to the management that work the front desk and all in between. They make you feel like family.
My wife booked through Tripcentral and they made it very easy and convenient, they answered all her questions and guided her when she had difficulty's. We flew with Transat Airlines for the first time and would do it again in a heart beat, 1 direct flight is so much better then 2 with West Jet.
In saying my wife and I can't wait to book again for next year to the same resort.

TRS Turquesa: Lovely Resort
My husband and I spent the last week of November at the Royal Suites Turquesa.
The positives...
The resort fit right into what we were looking for. Although part of the larger Palladium Hotel Chain, we found the Royal Suites to be a more intimate setting. We stayed in the main building which was only three stories and similar buildings surrounded the main pool area. We found the resort not to be too busy so there was always lots of lounging room by the pool or on the beach. The resort [... read more]was clean and well maintained and the staff very friendly and attentive. There is a great lobby which was busy in the evening with live music and very popular with the guests.
The not so positive:
When we first arrived were given a room that appeared not to have been used recently and certainly wasn't checked thoroughly before we arrived. The WiFi wasnt working, the phone wasnt hooked up (infact it was an empty shell) and operating, there was no hot water and the location of the room was right beside a very busy and noisy public road. In the end we requested another room and encountered no other issues with our room.
There seemed to be alot of soliciting on the premise..... '2 for 1 Spa Deals', trying to sell Time Share Packages. To be approached once, perhaps twice during the week is fine, but it was constant and every day.
When we were checking out we were about to be charged for a bottle of champagne - which we had never received! It seemed to take the front desk ages to come to the conclusion that it was an error on the part of the housekeep staff.
Overall, apart from our arrival and departure, our experience at the Royal Suites Turquesa was a positive one and I believe we would consider returning.

Ocean Blue and Sand: Amazing resort
We absolutely loved this resort. The food, weather and people were amazing. They are doing some work on some of the outside building but nothing to complain about. The only bad thing I would say is the cleaning service in the rooms is a bit poor, not always restocking fridge, towels etc. We plan on returning in April

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Looks good.....
Get comfortable because this review is gonna be thorough description of our stay.
My wife and used WestJet to get from Canada to the resort for a 5 day stay. The trip was pleasant and as expected. Upon arrival we were greeted with very friendly desk staff. We were given our wrist bands(lowest tier). They explained everything we needed to know for our stay. One of the concierge told us if we needed anything to let him know (He ask that we look for him specifically).
Day 1(1/4day)
[... read more]
Hotel staff showed us our standard room and explained the tv wasn't working (not a problem as we don't watch television). I was under the impression from the discription on the website that our room would have a balcony or terrace, however this was not the case as our room had neither. We didn't complain because it was around 7:30pm and we weren't overly concerned about it. Our room also had no chairs to sit on, the bathroom had only one towel and the climate control had one setting(freezing). This also didn't bother us because of the 30°c temperature outside and there was no problem getting another towel. We sat on the bed and enjoyed the two beers that were inside the mini fridge. People we met later in our stay said they were unhappy with their original room and when the complained were upgraded/unhappy again and upgraded again.
We left our room and went and enjoyed the buffet. The food was well cooked and presentation was good. We found out the hard way there is no bathrooms in the buffet area. (Bathrooms at the front desk, pool area and our room were about the same distance). We walked around the resort and found the guest and staff to be polite and friendly. We returned to our room and attempted to go to sleep. We could hear the music coming from the entertainment area and people enjoying themselves.
Day 2
In the morning (9:30) housekeeping arrived knocked once and came right in. We quickly let them know we were still sleeping. We planned to be out of the room after 10 because that's the time the lunch buffet opens otherwise we would have hung the do not disturb sign(didn't expect housekeeping that early). We left our room around 10:30 without hanging the sign. After lunch/breakfast we went to book dinners at the 3 ala carte restaurants. We asked if it was possible to book more than 3 restaurants(Asian, seafood and steak) but we're told other guests had to have a chance to visit them(fair enough). After this we went to the beach. We were almost immediately greeted by a tour salesperson and a woman who insisted on giving my wife and I one braid in our hair for free(This happened every time we went to the beach throughout our stay by the same people, despite repeatedly rejecting their offers). The beach itself was clean, the water was warm and the view was the best I had ever seen in person, in my life. Also worth a visit, is the snack bar(seafood ala carte at night) at the beach. Good food and a bathroom close to the dining area. For dinner we were booked at the Asian restaurant. This was a pleasant experience. Food was delicious, the presentation was delightful and staff was quick and courteous. We returned to our room to and discovered housekeeping had not returned. Afraid they would wake us up at 9 am we placed the do not disturb sign on the door and fell asleep to music from outside.
Day 3
I got up early 5:30 to get a photo of the sunrise at 6 over the ocean. The mosquito are very bad before sunrise but during the day are not bad at all. I returned to my room after I got the picture and went back to sleep. At 9am I woke up to the housekeeping staff yelling at eachother about toilet paper. My wife and I woke up at that time and on our way out I asked housekeeping if we could get another towel and gave them the room number. They seemed to understand. We went to the breakfast buffet. We were greeted at the door with a tasty breakfast shot. The breakfast buffet was average but there was no bacon. This was the only day we went to the breakfast buffet so I'm not sure if this was normal or if I just got unlucky. This day we spent most of the time in the pool enjoying the swim up bar. I was drinking the cocktail of the week called an ice tea. This drink looked like a sunset in the photo and when made by the right bartender tasted delicious and looked like the photo. Unfortunately there were some bartenders who for some reason claimed they don't make it or couldn't make it properly. For these bartenders I would just order a beer (Trial and error). Dinner was at the seafood restaurant. Everything I tried was delicious and the presentation was good. Staff here was quick and courtesy also. We decided to check out the entertainment with people we had met in the pool that day. The show was very entertaining. During the show wait staff brought us drinks. I was drinking water and after a few rounds the waiter said no water so I ordered a rum and coke. They returned with a rum and diet cola. We finished our drinks and returned to our room at around 12. We noticed the housekeeping brought us another towel but did not stock the mini fridge (this was not a big deal to us as the resort is all inclusive but still worth mentioning I think). We fell asleep to music from outside.
Day 4
6:45am we are awakened by maintenance staff knocking on the room across from ours and started using tools on the door banging and scratching at the door. I asked that he return in a couple hours. At 8:30 he returned again and began working untill around 9. My wifeand i were upset but were determined to have a positive vacation. I attempted to use the tv and found that it was working. We watched TV untill 10 and went to the snack bar at the beach. There was an artist there teaching tourist to paint free of charge. My wife partook and painted a beautiful apple. We donated to the artist and bought some of his work. This was our last day so we decided to leave the resort to do a little shopping. We went to the front desk and one of the concierge (different one than the one who asked us to look for him) greeted us. We asked where the shopping off resort was and he pointed us in the right direction(2 minutes walk from the resort). He also put us know if we needed anything to look for him. Just him. Similar to the first concierge. This concierge requested we meet him after shopping so he could show us around the resort (we didn't feel this was necessary). At the shopping area tour sales people try to get you to buy a tour. They are respectful when you just say no thanks. Some of the shops don't have prices so look around at all the shops to find the value of what your looking for. Return to the shops without price tags and you can get souvenirs for a good price. Some shops may try to sell you drugs so be prepared. One shop keeper called me a cheapskate because I knew exactly what I wanted and bartered him to my price. The shopkeeper was very friendly and smiled while calling me this. I had fun. We returned to the resort. That night we went to the steak restaurant. Again the food was delicious and the presentation was good however the wait staff was busy with other guests and we waited a little longer than the other restaurants. We went back to the room and watched a movie before falling asleep to music from outside.
Day 5
7am we are again awakened by a car alarm followed by 10 seconds of solid horn from the parking lot. We return to sleep untill 11 undisturbed. Buffet. Checkout and travel home was as expected.
Overall I expect if we would have complained earlier we could have got a better location away from the entertainment area. Food and guest services were very good. We still got more sleep for the 5 days than a normal 5 day work week.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: SECOND TO NONE!
We stayed at the VH Gran Ventana the week of Nov. 21 to 28th. Everything about this hotel was more than we expected. The service was second to none. All the employees were very friendly and their service was fabulous. We requested a room on the main floor due to accessibility issues and got the best room ever!. The food at the buffet and the ala cartes was 5 star. The only thing we would have liked was a coffee pot in the room and the wifi wasn't the best, however, everything else far out[... read more]weighed these issues. Barcelo Bavaro Beach: Second Time
This resort is one of the better ones that we have visited. This was our second time.It is very clean and the majority of the staff are very friendly. The beach is perfect. The workers make sure if that. Security is often seen and you feel quite safe both on and off the resort. The food in the buffet is exceptional. The ala cartes are hit and miss. The rooms are basic but clean. I would rate this resort a 4. I would definitely return if the price was right.

Hotel is very clean and grounds are beautiful. Did not care to have the stray dogs on the beach though they didn't bother you but it seemed sad.
Food is good and they had lots of chairs to sit down which is very nice. Don't know if this is because it wasn't full.

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Very nice resort
We had an amazing time. Very good services, nice rooms, very clean, good food and fun time at the lobby after dinner. We recommend this resort to anyone that needs to relax and enjoy sitting around the pools.
We knew that the beach is nice and the ocean is not nice in this area, but this resort has very nice pools which we enjoyed sitting around and relax...especially the quiet pool with no animation. This was just perfect for the kind of trip we wanted to do this year.

Sensatori Resort Punta Cana: Amazing Resort
I truly enjoyed my stay at the Sensatori Resort in Punta Cana. The room, food and service were exceptional. I traveled as a family with 2 young kids and the hotel catered to every need I had. They were able to provide all the services we requested for our room (changing table, bottle warmers). My only advice is that this resort is specifically geared towards families with children. I would not want to stay at this resort if I was looking for a couples retreat. The resort is connected to Nickolod[... read more]ean resort and share all of the restaurants and such. As expected the buffet restaurant can be very loud as it is packed with kids. The nightly entertainment is a bit lacking as well. The resort is very quiet afterhours. It was great for us with the kids......We truly enjoyed our stay and would return for a family vacation. The next time I will be sure to get a swim up room.....they are truly amazing.
Beautiful, clean, soft sand beach.
Clean, friendly hotel.
Yummy food.
Outstanding entertainment. Michael Jackson show was unbelievable. The magician was very tricky and the circus show was thrilling. Those guys are strong!

Catalonia Bavaro Resort: Beautiflu resort!
We stayed at this resort from Nov 9th to the 16th. Overall experience was great. Here are the particulars:
Beach: Very large, nice sand. A lot of seaweed though, which was cleaned up every morning. The water was not very clear, we did not venture in, a lot of weed beds.
Pool: Perfect. Tons of chairs, and places for sun or shade. Pool bar is great. The pool is shaped so that you can be close to the action, or away, depending on your preference.
Restaurants: We had Priviledge, so[... read more] we tried all of them. No complaints. Steakhouse was preferred, but were great.
Grounds: Spectacular.
Golf: Did not go.
Staff: Perfect, never had issues, very friendly. Lots of entertainment around the pool, but they respected those who did not want to participate.
Timeshare presentation: We did do this/ It took an hour, and when we said we were not interested, it was over. Not pushy at all, and did not try to sell to hard.
Room: Newly renovated, everything was perfect. Dual rain showers, awesome!
Would go back!

Bahia Principe Explore Legend: Fantastic at Fantasia
For families with kids of 3 to 13 it is an excellent resort. Rooms are well designed, with either a King bed or two doubles (not queensize) plus a flip down couch / trundle bed. Rooms are large as is the double sink bathroom with a huge separate shower stall and a large whirlpool tub. White marble floors in the rooms are kept clean and gleaming. The same tile is used extensively through out the resort in public areas and around the pools. I would caution, they are slippery when wet. There are [... read more]four restaurants on site, plus access to over a dozen more through out the Bahia Complex, with a great variety of food choices. The Fantasia main buffet, Larimar, has both indoor and out door seating with lots of tables to accommodate large families. Food for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner is prepared fresh and with many options, and a rotating daily theme for dinner. They have a section set up for children with popular foods like French Fries and small sandwichs etc at low counters. There is a exclusive Fantasia restaurant at the beach and the end of the line for the trolly, that makes a nice little buffet and has great service. The huge water slide and pool section closest to beach direction are set up for children of all ages, including a very shallow area and lots of lounges chairs over a huge surrounding area. that side of the Castle also has the swim up bar, and the entertainment staff working mostly in that side. The pool side closest to the lobby is divided in two large pools, approximately 3 1/2 feet deep, with many sweeping staircase access's around the free form sides. Staff are circulating all day providing drinks and some times snacks at your lounge chairs and there are sufficient little side tables beside the chairs. Childrens shows start around 8 PM in the lobby theater or the outdoor theater at the front entrance and are very interactive, getting kids of all ages to come up on the stage and dress up etc.
