the rooms are a little outdated and could use a refresher - dining was ok - the grounds were lovely - very disappointed in the beach area - we're use to blue water and beautiful beaches at the Mayan - consequently we didnt go in the ocean :(

Grand Sunset Princess: Fantastic resort
Resort is huge. But easy to get around with the trolley system. The pools are amazing and the pools and grounds are kept so immaculate. The staff are friendly and the food good. The ocean and the beach are great and never had a problem getting a lounger. The bar on the beach could be bigger or have two bars are more waiters for the beach area. Loved the resort.

Grand Sunset Princess: If you're a beach lover, think twice!
The hotel is large and manicured very well, food was decent but had real issues with lack of space on the beach and the rude beach security guards. You can't go past a certain area on the beach with your chairs and this is extremely monitored closely. If you're a beach lover and enjoying spreading out so that you've got some space between you and the people next to you, I would strongly urge you to go elsewhere.

El Dorado Seaside Palms: Good Resort
Stayed at El Dorado Seaside for 4 days July 13-17. Hotel room was very nice with a large bed and large jacuzzi tub. We had a personal concierge who was extremely good. The highlight was a beach supper we received for free after a timeshare
presentation. While we were at supper our room was prepared with flower petals on the bed and in the jacuzzi. A very nice touch for our 30th wedding anniversary. There were a few negatives however. The beach is nice but once you enter the water it is quite roc[... read more]ky so beware. The hotel advertises as a gourmet resort but we found the food was very similar to other resorts we have been to. We also believe we picked up some food poisoning at one of the restaurants. Not a good sign for a resort of this type.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Wonderful vacation and amazing resort
Everything about the hotel was terrific. The pool was large and even though we had to take a trolley to the beach it was worth it. We had the opportunity to use the other properties at this location. The staff were wonderful, food was great, weather was hot and sunny. We enjoyed it so much that we decided to purchase the Bahia Principe Privilege membership

Excellence Riviera Cancun: Could have been a great vacation!
In general, this Hotel's standards were as we expected for the considerable price we paid. The only issues worth mentioning as a warning to future guests are as follows:
After my wife was bitten several times, we found bugs in our room and had to have it fumigated; that rectified the problem.
The hotel surroundings were well kept, and the restaurants (several choices) were very nice.
Our opinion of some contracted businesses allowed to work on the hotel premise was mediocre at best and we ran in[... read more]to a significant issues with the scuba diving shop and it's operator. They did not nearly provide the services listed on the Excellence Riviera URL (internet site) and displayed a negative attitude when we showed them what the internet stated the hotel provided. It's our opinion that the Excellence Riviera should have more control on who they allow access to their grounds to provide services to the guests. We were so irate that I took time to write a letter to the hotel Entertainment Manager (Mr Antonio Galaz) but rather than taking action to correct our issue he opted to leave the matter for his Concierge staff to handle. They (the Concierges) did as best as could be expected considering their limited authority, but fell short of rectifying our issue the way it should have been. In our opinion, the Entertainment Manager should have communicated with the Scuba shop and arranged for him to provide us with the equipment the Hotel URL stated they would provide. This issue didn't ruin our vacation but it certainly left us very disappointed!
Here is a copy of the letter written to Mr Antonio Galaz

Re: Excellence Riviera Resort Online Marketing and Onsite Facilities
Dear Mr Galaz,
Prior to our departure from Canada on 6 Mar 2014, my spouse Jane and I put a lot of time in planning our vacation in an effort to make our first holiday in beautiful Mexico a memorable one.
We wanted to ensure that no detail would escape our attention and that nothing would be forgotten.
With this in mind, we carefully read all the available information detailed on the Excellence Riviera online site. Among numerous other information we read, we noted clearly written under “All Inclusive Luxury†the following information:
Enjoy unlimited access to any—or all—of the following amenities
at Excellence Riviera Cancun:
Use of Hobie Cats, and surf boards, sea kayaks, snorkel gear and paddle board.
Since the information we obtained on the internet was clear about the use of snorkel gear for our enjoyment & free of charge, we opted to bring only our own snorkeling masks and breather tubes because our masks have prescription lenses and are a perfect fit. Another reason for not bringing our fins is that it would have forced us to bring another bag (because of size and bulkiness) which would have forced us to check it for the flight. This would have been an inconvenience to us since we always strive to use only carry-on luggage to simplify our traveling and speed-up airport transit.
Having arrived at the Excellence Riviera Resort, and enjoyed a few relaxing days, we inquired on the 12 March about the availability of snorkeling gear (fins) as the weather was favorable and we felt like getting wet. After going to the beach where the kayaks are kept and asking about fins to snorkel, we were directed to the Excellence Riviera diving shop close to the pool.
We spoke to Bob at the scuba shop and he informed us that the only people who could be fitted with fins are paying customers who purchase paid snorkeling tours or scuba diving tours. He also stated that only masks and breather tubes are available providing a $40.00 deposit (each) was paid.
Considering we love snorkeling and our intention was to remain in front of the Excellence Riviera Resort within the roped off swimming area, we were very much disappointed and frustrated from how this simple wish turned into a kilometer of red tape. It left a bad taste in my mouth. Bob left me with the impression that unless we had money for him he was not interested in helping us. This chain of events left Jane and I no longer wishing or interested in snorkeling for the remainder of our stay.
After speaking with Mr Bronsson Comacho (Chief Concierge) it was explained to us that the Scuba shop and staff are actually not Excellence Riviera staff, but are a separate firm contracted to work on the premise. Nevertheless, my opinion is and remains, that if customers are left frustrated by external contracted firms, those results unfortunately reflect on the Excellence Riviera even if it should not. This is part of the reason I am providing this issue in writing.
Regardless of the turnout of these events, it would not be fair if we didn’t mention the care and attention provided us by Mr Comacho. He truly went out of his way beyond our expectations to facilitate and provide us extra perks to make up for this disappointment. He was very understanding and admitted to the lack of details on the URL (internet web site) which causes customers to believe that all snorkeling gear would be available at the Excellence Riviera, and doesn´t contain reasons for the unavailability of snorkeling fins from the diving shop.
We hope pointing out this issue in writing will ameliorate communication on the Excellence Riviera Web URL, and between future customers and the Dive shop located on the premises. We would hate to see such a gorgeous resort as the Excellence Riviera, suffer negative results from an issue which could be so easily resolved.
In passing, another detail which was not discussed with Mr Comacho, is that the Web site (URL) for the Excellence Riviera Cancun resort also offers a free Scuba Diving familiarization given in the pool on hotel site. Jane and I are qualified PADI divers and since we hadn´t dived for an extended period, we inquired at the scuba dive shop to see if we could participate in such a refresher session. We were immediately informed by Bob that there is a $45.00 ea cost to this famil session. Another Excellence Riviera internet Web Site discrepancy (or is it a dive shop issue?)
Thank you very much for your time and attention to this matter. We appreciated any effort on your part to rectify these issues, and we welcome feedback from you at your convenience. We will reside at Excellence Riviera room 2101 until 20 March 2014. If you care to reach us after our departure, refer below.
Best Regards,

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Great food
dreadful sewery smell in certain areas of the resort. Our room smelled sewery :( The ocean is not the beautiful azure colour that Playa del Camen has - it is brown. It took staff 1-1/2 hours to pick us up from our room to get to the lobby so we could catch our bus when we left. Very stressful as we couldn't carry our luggage and were dependent on them to help.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: EXCELLENT!
Stayed at Coba July 28 - August 4 in building 18 A. We loved it. Grounds are well maintained, the buffet was great, although I stayed away from the meat section so I can't speak for that part of the buffet. The staff were very nice and thank you to Maribel, Omar and Victor in the buffet. They were very nice and did a great job looking after us. Also thanks to Loyda who looked after our room. We also loved the live band in the hacienda they had every night and David the keyboard player was very a[... read more]ccomodating with requests. They had lots of events during the day and entertainment in the evening to keep people busy. The room we had was very large and clean and it suited us just fine. Down side... the resort is huge and most people took the carts that run around on a regular basis to go where they wanted but it is a bit of a pain. It was also very humid and it made taking tours outside umcomfortable. The AC does not cool the room right down but it is good enough to get a good nights sleep. Also the DJ in the night club was not interested in requests and seemed very moody. I guess he is just a typical DJ, they are going to play what THEY think you like. We only requsted one song and that took until the next day to play it. In his defence most people by that time have consumed a considerable amount of alcohol. Also a warning not to feed the animals. They seem very passive but one little girl hand fed one and didn't give up the food fast enough and it scratched her up pretty good. Word of advise...you tip at home and no different here. Service is always better if you tip. Over all a great time and would return.

Catalonia Yucatan: Resort is wonderful.
The resort is great. We had a wonderful time. Ala carte food was great. Buffet.....not so much. The only other down side was that we had requested 4 ocean view rooms. I double checked a week before we left to be told that there was no over booking and that we would get our ocean view rooms. Upon arriving we were told there were no ocean view rooms and that we had been upgraded to suites. The rooms were nice but if I would have wanted the location of the suites I would have booked a suite. I pref[... read more]ered the location of the other rooms. Not sure if they really were over booked or just trying to be nice with an upgrade. It would have been nice to have the choice.

Catalonia Yucatan: Beautiful Resort
We visited this resort July 22-29, 2014. We were a bit early to check in so we had lunch and came back to get the key to our room. The rooms were nice and clean and adequate for what we needed. The elevator for our area was not in use the entire time we were there. We did find a easier way to get to our room that was on the 3rd floor. We also loved the free wifi, and found that it worked best in the lobby. The tv worked great and we had no problems with the shower or air conditioning. The room a[... read more]ttendent Ofelia who was very nice cleaned our room daily and I appreciated the clean towels they were nice and big. We did not have a fridge in our room but we found we didn't really miss having one. We had a safe in our room and there was a charge of 3.00/day. The safe worked fine for us. We enjoyed the food all week at the buffet which was a very nice dining room and it was air conditioned. The hostess who greeted us was Tania and our family really enjoyed her greeting us each evening and seating us at our table each night. Tania is a great asset to this hotel she is just lovely. We enjoyed all our meals here every night and I must mention Lucas, Raul, and Allan, they were excellent servers who always greeted us with a smile and always looked after our drinks as well. We also visited one alacart which was the steak house and we enjoyed this restaurant, you could get steak but also a number of other variety of choices as well. Our service was perfect and the server I must mention is Abraham, very friendly and always looked after every detail of our meal there. My daughter and niece ages 18 and 22 loved the pool at the catalonia riviera side where the entertainment took place. My husband and I enjoyed the beach to the far left of the resort. The front of this resorts beach is quite rocky and I would suggest water shoes. However to the left it is nice and sandy and we were able to swim over there, and there are lots of fish to be found there too quite fun snorkling. There is not a long beach here, but my husband and I enjoyed a walk on the board walk each night, we really enjoyed the fact that this resort is very close to the ocean, it was just lovely. The beach towls were great you could exchange them whenever you needed and Bernardo was very friendly every day he greeted us and whenever we went by the towel hut always called out a greeting. My daughter and niece wanted to mention Javier who was at the Catalonia Riviera pool, always social and friendly. The entertainment in the evening was ok, it is a quiet resort for my niece and daughter who were looking for more action, as for my husband and I we enjoyed a early night as we were tired from the activity throughout the day. Check out was quite easy, however I only have one complaint, the resort asked to have the safe paid in Canadian currency, so we did and the safe was 21.00. However when my husband paid the fee the desk person Gabriella, was quite rude that they did not except our coin. I understand that but they asked specifically for Canadian. We always bring US currency with us and so she was quite rude and said some very impolite things to my husband and I. So They want Canadian but not our coined dollar which is the loonie, I am not sure what other dollar she expected us to have. This is our fourth time in Mexico and we always carry US currency with us. Otherwise everything here at this resort was great. I would recommend this resort, however I would suggest this resort figure out what currency they would like their fee of the safe paid in.
