Iberostar Costa Dorado - AMAZING!!!

We have been to this hotel 8 times now and this most recent time was the best so far. Everything improved from our last trip. Only thing that has not improved in all the stays is the service at the bars! Only people who get served are those who over-tip. Everyone else might as well be invisible. Overall thoroughly enjoyed our stay of 16 nights was great! Highly recommend this resort.

Above average for the class

The Iberostar Costa Dorada is a nice all-inclusive with a few problems which are mostly self-inflicted. First the good: -nice beach with absolutely no issues getting a lounge chair anytime of the day. you never felt crowded -ocean view room was clean and quiet, but a little dated and for some reason only had one chair. Japanese restaurant is fun, mexican pretty good and italian maybe a bit below average but fine. Buffet is a bit repetitive but overall pretty good - you wont go hungry -easy to book restaurants (once you know how) and the rules seem to change -Bed was very comfortable -fairly short drive from the airport -Grounds are generally clean and well kept -liked the eco friendly aspect of the resort. No problem filling available water bottles from around the corner which eliminates the plastic ones -Booking the trip was fairly easy - Lisa did a good job of getting us what we wanted although i had to check spam folder the get my tickets - not her fault, just a warning The not so good: -communication is lacking. You learn to do things like booking restaurants (and in one case finding them), using the safe and finding activities on your own. There is no information provided by the hotel and the iberostar app is wrong a lot of the time. We missed a beach party and several daytime activities because the app or hotel signs had the wrong info. Finding the italian restaurant is a challenge because it does not appear on any hotel maps and is not marked - it is actually the open air lunch restaurant at night which is a brazilian restaurant on all of their maps -our room was dated but had a renovated bathroom. Looked nice but several of the fixtures were loose and the toilet seat was the wrong size and not properly attached. Not a big deal but why? -the bartenders, while friendly, aren't too imaginative and on several occasions gave me the wrong drink even though they confirmed what i wanted. Maybe a little casual about their jobs? -typical of this type of resort, the pool plays obnoxious "music" at high volumes throughout the day with the animation staff screaming into to the microphone frequently - stick to the beach -As often noted, there is a real seaweed problems on the beach in the mornings but staff do try to keep up with it. Didn't bother us but something to be aware of -limited evening activities. Like most of these resorts, the evening entertainment can be hit and miss and there arent a lot of options. Brandy in the lobby bar gets a bit old after a few nights -The first couple of nights a fogger came around to control the mosquitos. without warning you could be caught in a toxic fog. while there is a bit of a mosquito issue at dusk, a little notice would be apreicated. Overall you probably won't be wowed by this resort but you probably wont be disappointed either. I would give it a solid 8 out of 10 which could be easlily improved with a bit of communication.

The hotel grounds were very well kept. The room was average but a little dated. There were no English channels on the tv which would have been nice for bedtime. The entertainment at night was horrible. The singers especially the female one was terrible and singing English songs. The entertainment was geared more for kids or teenagers. The reception staff were amazing and spoke perfect English and were very friendly and accommodating. It felt like a 3 star resort. Not sure if I’d go back.

Above average resort!!

This resort has a excellent pool facilities with a swim up bar with many activities available!! The food was excellent with many choices for everyone!! The only negative part of the resort is the rooms are old, with old electrical problems!! By far the best part of this resort was the service you receive!! Outstanding as always!!!

The resort was amazing as always. The staff were amazing and friendly. The food and drinks are better then most resorts we have visited. The rooms have everything you need for a comfortable stay. We have been to this resort 4 times and will be booking again soon. :D Love Iberostar Costa Dorada

Nice Clean resort

We stayed at the lberostar Costa Dorada the middle of January most of our family came total of 13 people we booked as a group so we were hoping our rooms would be close we were all spread out between building 6, 7, 8 & 9. But we made the best of it. The hotel grounds were kept Immaculate the beach was kept clean of seaweed compared to the resort next door. Buildings were slightly dated but fully functional. Our room had 2 doubles and a single bed with a balcony.Maids did a fantastic  [... read more]job The fridge was restocked daily, and they had a water filtration system that you refilled your resuable glass bottles(they provided) Workers were friendly, although most struggled to speak english, even waiters and bartenders The food was good, the buffets offered a variety of choices. ltalian and Japanese were good service was fast. Mexican was ok, and service was not great. Payaya made on beach was fantastic Bartenders didn't know many drinks, and they were always different. They nad fountain drinks, but they were very watered-down kids didn't like them. Fruit punch was a light pink orange juice was clear (fountain drinks). The pool was clean, and they had life guards at both the beach and pool. There are lots of lounges and umbrellas at both the beach and pool. During our week stay 4 of those days they had busses of Cruise ship people come to the resort for the day So busier than normal but still fine The ice cream machine at the pool buffet was good. The only issue was people misusing it or leaving it running and making messes with it. I would make a suggestion for more garbage cans throughout the resort Entertainment was mediocre. They had things at the pool during the day, bingo, ring toss, archery, darts volleyball, etc. These were good. Nighttime shows were lacking The last night we were there, they had a silent disco as a pre show. They should have just continued that nstead of stopping it and putting on their show. Most people were having a blast and left after they stopped the disco. All in all, a nice resort, our family enjoyed our vacation, and I would recommend it to others.

Beautiful resort.

We had a wonderful stay and we would recommend this hotel and will definitely return. The food, staff and hotel grounds were amazing. There were tons of loungers at the pool and at the beach with plenty of shade. One thing that needs to be addressed is labelling food at the buffet and beach restaurants. Sometimes it’s hard to tell what the food is. Rooms need to be updated and they are showing their age.

Very good hotel and nice people

Special thanks goes out to Glen the fitness instructor who gave exceptional classes and coaching as well as our housekeeper, Narin. Thanks to Bernie the Sunwing rep for all the tips. Will definitely go back. One small comment, it would be nice if all the wonderful fruit juices were labelled. Our travel agent Lisa Selig was exceptional and extremely helpful!

Good value

The hotel has seen better days but it was clean, service was good. There was no special covid procedures as nine are needed any longer really. You can order ivermectin to bring home at the customer service desk and a pharmacy will deliver it.

Beautiful grounds, great staff, still suffering post- pandemic.

We spent three weeks between November 22- December 13 and enjoyed the vacation. The staff is wonderful and extremely helpful. Rooms are clean and quire well equipped. The renovated showers do lack pressure but we never wanted for hot water. Food was good and varied in the buffet. The a la cartes were satisfactory but we returned to the Japanese only once with friends. The resort was not crowded except on weekends when local residents were there. Plenty of loungers on the beach. Pool area was alw [... read more]ays active and plenty to do. Our only complaint was the inconsistency of drinks at the bars. No two bartenders shared drink recipes and regular brands were either not available at every bar each day or were substituted with local brands.

Plenty of shade!

This resort is absolutely the best resort we have ever been to for the availibility of shade. There are plenty of loungers to be found in the shade at the pool and also at the beach. There are also spots between the beach and pool offering plenty of shade for anyone who needs to limit the amount of sun they get. Also plenty of sun spots for the people who love the sun. The food was a little repetitive off the main buffet but was edible none the less with nobody going hungry and if you did it was your own fault. The grounds are well kept with plenty of trees and walkways and all the time you are on the grounds you get a beautiful view of either the mountain or the beach....what more could you ask for! We spent a majority of our time lazing in the shade on the beach enjoying the cold drinks and cool breezes off the water. The beach is nice and sandy with only a bit of seaweed washing up that is quickly picked up. Just a small sidenote.... one of our fav drinks to enjoy is the long island ice tea. Anyone who likes them knows that there is a wide variety of how they are made however we have finally found the right bartender to make them at this resort. Elvis will make you the perfect ice tea that tastes delightful and you will never know it has booze in it hardly. Be careful though as they are packed with booze lol This is a good resort at a good price with lots to enjoy. Many people come on here and complain about resorts not matching the flashy 5 star resorts they have been in other locations but then also paid 3 times the price for them so lets be fair. We have been in the travelling game for awhile now and this resort is on our list of resorts e would return to.

Nice stay...

Older hotel with beautiful grounds and beach. Rooms are dated but clean and functional. Food was good at buffet but the a la cartes were very good 👍 pool area was very noisy most of the time but plenty of seating available. Overall an enjoyable experience.

Family Vacation Oct 22nd

Service was excellent Grounds clean and well kept Rooms clean Food very good selection Japanese and Mexican very good Italian not so good Al la cart reservations would be nice to book all in advance vs same day More food labels at the buffet needed Coffee/tea before 7 am would be nice for early risers Beach too much seaweed and garbage washing up on shore Domingo at the buffet was pleasant and very accommodating thank you !!

Great vacation

Small to medium size resort that had a very nice decor and many nice features for you to enjoy. Fountain in the lobby and in the courtyard. Lots of seating in the lobby with a bar to boot. Very clean and well maintained grounds. Rooms were larger than expected. Very clean inside our room with balcony to enjoy morning coffee or a late night cap. We were a party of ten and never had a [... read more]ny problems finding loungers together by the pool or at the beach. Beach was beautiful with lots of sand and a long strip to have walks on. The water had an abundance of seaweed in most spots trying to enter/exit wasn’t ideal. The hotel had a crew to clean up the seaweed everyday off of the shore. They only had three ala carte restaurants italian, Japanese, and Mexican and the main buffet was open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Also had a buffet lunch by the pool and one day we had Mexican at the beach with some great drinks at the beach bar. Staff was remarkable. Probably one of my best vacations with the staff at this resort. From first registration and bell hops with quick courteous service. Waiters, waitresses, bar tenders and kitchen staff were top notch with service, gratitude, friendliness that kept up for the entire stay. Unbelievable that we had not one issue with any staffing whatsoever and that’s with a group of ten. The staff by far make up for the little flaws or inconsistencies of the resort. The choices for breakfast lunch and dinner were good with many choices for all types of palettes but were very repetitive. On most occasions the trays with food were not labeled at all. Our ocean front view really wasn’t but should of been called palm tree view looking through the palms you could see the ocean. But like I said before the staff were amazing and that definitely outweigh the minor flaws.

Good bang for your buck

My husband and i had a lovely time at the resort. We stayed for 7 days. We thought the food was pretty decent. The buffet mostly had the same food everyday but we didn’t find that to be a problem, as the food tasted good. A la carts were surprisingly good. But the rest of the week was quieter for sure. The pool was crowded over the weekend because of this. There were locals in the beach trying to get you to come down to their “market” to sell you things. They were very persistent and some days were set up on the resort blocking the pathways to the lobby and buffet so you could not avoid them. Like other people say, the pool was dirty. But they had a worker fishing things out of it every afternoon. We did have 1 cockroach in our room that we killed, but a day or two later there was a letter under our door stating that they were fumigating it, so it’s nice to see they were taking care of it. We had an updated room in building 1. So we had no complaints there. Except our AC wasn’t super cold, and our safe stopped working on our last day. Customer service was amazing. We had all power go out in our room one day and when we told the front desk, it was fixed within an hour or two. They had them phoned us later that evening to follow up and make sure it was working, which was nice to see. We really enjoyed our stay here, and like i said, for the money we payed, it exceeded our expectation.

Great staff, old building

My experience at this hotel was not as good as anticipated. The hotel grounds were decent, and staff were very kind but our room was extremely old and mucky. There were stains on the sheets, towels, rags, headboard, side tables, and when bringing this issue to the front desk, nothing was done. I presume most rooms look like this and the rooms are simply old and need renovations. Definitely a big surprise for an Iberostar chain hotel. Also, 90% of the staff I interacted with barely spoke any English and it was difficult to make simple requests. I would not return nor recommend.

Beautiful resort

It a nice resort and friendly staff but activists for younger crowed are not much.Dancing club could be better and more pool area could be added. Food was good and drinks were good too.Rooms was nice but I didn’t like the shower missing curtain so every time you take shower water comes out on floor. Balcony are was nice, other than that it was good.

Amazing staff, very clean resort - Poor drinks and food

The hotel its self was beautiful, ground were fantastic, well kept very clean and all the staff were amazing. Tony at the Mexican, and the beach bar guy - sorry forgot his name was very friendly. i have to say i have been to many places in my time and the food was not up to par here, nothing on a grill and very watered down drinks - however this may be because at the weekend fri - sun the local Dominicans do overtake the whole resort and the food options completely change and the drinks are very [... read more] watered down. i know it is very overwhelming for the staff as we did speak to a few of them. beautiful place, but i would not go back - i can go to Mexico, Punta Cana or Jamaica for the same price, with 100% better food and drinks. They did have no bottles water as they say they have a filter system station, believe me its not filtered properly - we travelled with friends and we are all still sick from this as we did drink lots of water.

Great resort

Beautiful hotel and property. Plenty of food choices with food well prepared and presented. I would skip the special Italian restaurant that has a limited menu. The pool and beach area is large with plenty of shade. Front desk seemed to be minimally staffed and there was some difficulty with communication in English. Our room was very clean and comfortable. Well worth it to pay extra cost of an ocean view room.

Great resort just some things need to change

I am very happy you chose me as one to do a survey. It is my second visit at your hotel. Your staff are amazing. Chocolate at the entertainment crew fantastic. But there were two people I want to give special attention too. I don't know her name but she was my cleaning lady in room 7212 from April 2nd to the 11th. When I travel, I purposefully do not allow cleaning people in my room for I know they work hard and want to give them a rest. However, I tip for the days they did not come in due to my [... read more] own request. This woman who knew very little English went out of her way for me. She would see me in the hallway and point to coffee etc and she was trying to tell me I know you don't want your room cleaned but do you need anything through sign language. The other woman is working at your congierge area. Her name starts with an a M. She is very pretty and very thin. When she found out that there was no creamers anywhere to be found in the hotel she brought me some from her home. I was so shocked and touched. She is the best. Those are the best people from the bottom rung to the top. You requested to discuss covid measures in your hotel. In no way could guests wear masks due to heat. Your staff had them on but very few if only maybe 5 percent were covered up fully. They had their masks up but only covering their mouths not noses. I get this with the heat and having to communicate all day long very difficult. I would highly suggest staff be given glass visor masks so they can breathe and communicate well. The hotel grounds were immaculate and precision care was given, most importantly public bathrooms were given great attention I commend. But a few things changed and I think the whole chain should be aware of this before the name Iberostar goes down in reputation. There were so many prostitutes in the hotel I counted about seven. I talked to two of them, they said they had rooms there. I saw four woman surround two German men who left with these woman two nights in a row. I knew for a fact their wives were sleeping. I also met a man in his mid thirties who admitted he hired one of the girls. He said he gave her the 24.00 american as requested but instead waited to he went to the washroom and tried to steal his winter coat. He then told her to get out immediately. You have to understand in Canadian culture we can have compassion in our hearts for those poor people who have to resort to such measures. However, many tourist woman noticed in hotel and were not impressed at all. Please make measures from now on to not allow this.
