Fun Resort

This was our first time here! We had an ocean front room on the main floor that was super convenient with a nice patio to sit out on. Our room was close to 3 of the pools, the beach & beach front bar & nice common areas to sit around close by. It was amazing going to sleep every night listening to the waves crashing on the shore! I would have an omelet made everyday by a lovely lady. One issue was not having all of the Ala carte restaurants open every day. We only made one booking as you had to be online at 8am to get into one of the available restaurants. As it was I messed up the booking but they let us stay as they had a few empty tables. We just stuck with the buffets from that point. We had no issues getting pool chairs either, which was nice. There is some need for upgrades, & upkeep needed around the place, but for the most part everything was really good. We attended a couple of the evening shows & they were great! It's a great location to walk into Bucerias. Definitely should wear runners on the rocky roads! We enjoyed our time here!

Needs an upgrade

Overall we had a great time. Our first visit to this resort was 6 years ago. Love the location-close to Sayulita and downtown PV. Staff were wonderful. Our room was clean but dark. The pot light above the toilet in our room started dripping halfway through our 10 day stay. We reported it to the front desk 3 times and it was not fixed. The food was not the best sometimes lukewarm. The bathroom at the flamingo buffet was dirty and had black mold on the ceiling. The bathroom by the main pool was st [... read more]inky and gross. Seemed like there was never enough places to sit in the evening at the bars or to watch the show at the main pool. Not sure if I would go back.

Royal Decameron Complex

We were shocked when we entered our room. Very poor lighting, 2 lights in the room plus a pole lamp that was busted, lamp shade was destroyed and no plug for it so not sure why it was even there. One dresser that was filthy and broken. Bathroom vanity had two broken doors, no shelves, literally open to the floor. We had cold water in our room for the first four days then after many complaints to front desk and maintenance staff we had luke warm water for the rest of the week. Very uncomfortable  [... read more]for showering! There were only two receptacles in the room for phone chargers, etc. and no Wi-Fi reception in room or on balcony. The complex is very spread out and quite nice. Grounds are well maintained and staff were very pleasant. Pools are nice. Bars are nice. Buffet areas are nice and clean and people working in the buffets are very friendly. However, the food in the buffets was not the best. Food was almost always cold, there were warming trays under all the food trays but it didn't look like they used them at all. Unless you got something that was just brought out, it was cold. Even some dishes just brought out were cold, like out of the fridge cold! The wi-fi on the complex is terrible. Very poor coverage and moving from one area to another got you kicked off the wi-fi and you had to login every single time. Very frustrating. You also need the wi-fi and a phone to get a reservation at one of the a la carts. That is also a very frustrating experience. You have to login at 8:00 am, choose the date, choose the restaurant, choose for how many people (maximum of 2 people / reservation), choose a time, enter your room number and your bracelet number all in a matter of seconds because every spot is taken for every sitting in literally 90 seconds! Good luck with that! And if you want to go with another couple you both have to be at a spot with wi-fi at 8:00am and you both have to do this and hope you get in. Also with hundreds of guests on wi-fi trying to to the same thing at the same time you will most likely get kicked off the wi-fi and you will be having buffet for supper! It's a terrible system and if only two out of five or six a la carts are open you will most likely not get in. Many guests I spoke with gave up trying after the first day. The location is nice. We walked to Bucerias a couple of times, also went out for dinner in Bucerias. The resort has bicycles that you can use to go for a ride, however the bicycles are not in the best of condition.

Mexican Flair!

Our 5th repeat visit, obviously we like it. Grounds are beautiful, as is the beach. Staff are amazing! Super friendly. Rooms are very basic, but clean. Buffets had fresh fruit daily, and nice salads. Resort al la Carte’s are wonderful—-but very difficult to book a reservation. Resort should look at making more spots available by opening all the al la cartes nightly, not just 2-3. Evening entertainment was enjoyable. Resort has bikes available for use, although bikes are quite dated. The old lady has changed.

It has been 10 years since we last stayed at the Royal Decameron. Much has changed but not for the better. The staff has remained extremely welcoming, friendly, and helpful and we truely appreciated them. But the food and the maintenence has gone down a lot . The communication on booking the alacartes was frustrating . The buildings need a lot of upgrading and it would be a great help if the wi-fi would extend further then the loddy area.

Great Resort in Bucerias

We enjoyed our stay at Decameron. The location was perfect! Close to town and central for day trips. It’s also not an over crowded touristy area which we like. The resort is nice, rooms are dated but not a big deal. Bed was super comfy. We stayed in building 4. Perfect location. Close to beach, main pools and buffets. This is not an over the top luxury resort. Do not expect that! Alacarte is available every night but you do have to book by 8 AM. I found the buffet food to be recycled and for the first time in all my years of travel, I had a hard time with the food. That being said, I don’t travel for the food, so I always did find something, the salad bar was awesome every day. There was an egg bar available every morning which was fantastic. I would strongly suggest showing up near the beginning of when the buffet is open if you were looking for more variety of food as the evening lunch service wears on the food becomes depleted and not replenished. My only complaint at this resort honestly was the recycling of variety of food. Again, I am not a picky eater. However, I did find eating more difficult than I ever have in the past. My only other complaint would be that only beer wine or nonalcoholic beverages are available in the buffet. The beach is fantastic, great location! You can walk up and down for hours if you choose. The location of the resort really is prime you can walk into downtown Barias or take indrive, bus taxi or Uber very easily from this location and it’s not very expensive. The location of the resort is a great kick off point for many day trips. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The staff was fantastic, very attentive and kind.

Average resort a little old

Grounds kept nice short of help though room kept nice wifi was terrible only get in two places not in your room.trying to book a reservation is almost impossible two couples went down but couldn’t book for more than two dumb

Been before; will go again.

We've been to this hotel a few times. Our room was exactly as we hoped; oceanfront 3rd floor. Breakfast good. Love the salsa. Dinners only so so. Used Block 5 adult pool perfect. Staff great. Overall seems a wee bit tired. Would I go back? Yes.

Excellent affordable holiday

Comfortable rooms, great pools. We stayed in the adult only pool section that was close to the breakfast restaurant and the bar. There was an area designated for smokers. The food could have had a more upscale menu and variety however I never went hungry. Many repeat customers were there. It is our third time and would definitely return!

Exceeded expecations!

The service was incredible as the staff were so friendly and helpful (especially Lorenzo). The food was amazing, the drinks delicious, the views were beautiful, and we loved every minute of the time at the beach! The weather was very hot so it was great to come back from a day on the beach or wandering around Bucerias to hang out in an A/C cooled room for an hour or two before heading down for dinner. We will definitely be back again next year and highly recommend this resort to those who would  [... read more]like to escape the cold of Winter and get to know the very cool little town of Bucerias.

Great service!

Staff was very accommodating, moved me to a ground floor room because of Mobility issues. Service was great, meal service was great, food not so much. Several days the choices were so poor we left the resort to eat. Thai dinner was good. Japanese dinner was so bad we left halfway through. Overall a good experience, I will be back. West Jet people were great.

Mexican ambience

We had a 3rd floor ocean view which was great. The hotel offered six different pools and we utilized the adults only one and were glad of this as there were a number of young children present although this did not affect the dining areas. The grounds were neatly kept and the area certainly had a Mexican ambience. The main dining area was large and open that made it possible to be breezy.. Although the buildings were older, our room which had a king size bed was comfortable and clean. We were  [... read more]impressed by the wide, long sandy beach that reached for some distance and to our amazement, the ocean water was rather warm and pleasant. The breakfasts were great as we usually had the omelets, papaya, croissants or sweet buns. Although there was a variety of fresh salads and cut vegetables, we avoided these as we were considered the possibility of contaminated water (which didn't seem to affect those who used them). The special dining opportunities were better than the main hall and we considered the Japanese one to be better than the rest. We walked up the hill to the large grocery store where my husband purchased a 10 litre jug of purified water weighing 22 pounds and this lasted us for over five days although he maids did supply us with 3 half litre bottles of water. . The Day of the Dead performance was great! We found that service of the servers and maids was commendable while main desk personnel were helpful. We were happy with this resort considering the price.

Royal de Cameron

I have been to this resort many times in the past. I was very disappointed this time. I preface this statement by saying that I adore Mexican people, but the resort was totally centred around the Mexican guests. The trivia contests were all Mexican, the shows were predominantly spoken in Mexican, and I feel that that should’ve been more English as this is advertised in North America as a holiday result for Canadians. Had a warning been given we could have made arrangements to go outside of the resort and escape the noise , my friend and roommate had been sick that day, and the music annoys went on until the early hours of the morning. We were not the only ones upset by this. They had a Mexican night, but it was nothing like the Mexican nights in the past, and as for the food, it was terrible , my last night dinner consisted of a plate of carrots! Two of my friends became sick from the food eaten at the resort. I am sorry to have to write this as I have always been in favour of the royal Decameron. The WestJet representative was there for one day only , apparently there’s a takeover going on, and the WestJet employees have to be retrained

Friendly staff

I found the complex catered to the Spainish speaking customer and as 90% of the people here were from these countries it made scene The food was very much the same every day There were 5 restaurants you could book but it required you to make a reservation by 8am that day

No so great experience

Me and my husband arrived to Royal Decameron complex on October 7/23. Front desk stuff speaks very little of English. The beach was good and buffet stuff was friendly and quick to clean the table.Buffet does not have windows and of course no air conditioning- what h is big minus to the resort. Because of hurricane Lidia that hit resort on Tuesday, the power was off for sort period and generator picked up and we had lights in rooms, hallways , but NO air conditioning, no TV, and interruptions o [... read more]f internet. Air conditioner in my room broke and I reported it to the front desk. Nobody came to check and I’ve been told that nobody’s working only for guests with serious medical conditions. Whenever I asked front stuff at the main reception or Flamingo section reception- nobody knew anything about air conditioning. I reported many times and asked to come and check out my room. Finally Friday evening everyone got their air conditioner working and mine was still NOT working with heat every day of 33-35. Thursday, Friday and all nights - it was nightmare for me. I left on Saturday and still no air conditioning in my room. It was totally ruined vacations and I will never ever go back again.

Would not go back!!

We have been to The Royal Decameron 5 times and this past experience will not make us go back there again. We have always kept an open mind when travelling to Mexico (ie: food, drinks, cleanliness, pools, spa and service) Royal Decameron was lacking all of these factors! Let’s start with the positives: 1) The transfer from the airport was excellent and very efficient 2) unfortunately that was all the positives. Now let’s get to the “needs improvements”: The food: although we didn’t [... read more] starve the food was less than appetizing. We found ourselves dining at restaurants outside of the resort. The food was “recycled” what the guests didn’t eat for dinner was “recreated” for breakfast, then lunch then round 2 for another dinner. Heaven forbid you wanted to take a pastry out of the restaurant to have with your coffee….the guard at the door quickly reminds you of the strict policy. The drinks: Let’s just say we drank more water than alcohol! The drinks were a) watered down b) inconsistent c) unavailable d) ridiculously sweet or e)all of the above. The service: What service?? At The Royal Decameron you don’t matter. They could take ya or leave ya! Not hospitable, not friendly and definitely not a priority! The cleanliness: The grounds used to be impeccable…not this time! There was garbage, used cups, uncut grass, hundreds of dead bugs and cigarette butts everywhere. Our gecko friends felt free to come and go from our room because there is no seal around the doors. A complete renovation of the furniture, decor, painting and plumbing is recommended before someone gets hurt. Hard beds, and squished pillows made for sleepless nights. The pools: although very warm, they were disgusting! All of them had sludgy water with no sense of urgency to clean them. The spa: the massage itself was actually quite nice but they were not set up to let us use the amenities. The “waterfall” was not turned on, the sauna was cold and there was more humidity outside than in the steam room. Like I said, we are pretty easy going travellers and we have never wanted to leave a resort so bad as we did during our recent stay at The Royal Decameron. The sad part is, with the price of travelling these days we paid more then we ever had to stay there. LESSON LEARNED! Such a shame!!

Spring vacation

I was pleasantly surprised choosing this resort. The grounds are spacious with 5 pools plus plenty of room at the beach. You could easily get a lounge chair. The surface around the pools were pressure washed nightly and the washrooms were very clean. The food was good at the buffet and the restaurants were very good. We dined at 3 restaurants and ate most meals at the buffet. I liked having the option to get a drink in the evenings overlooking the ocean at 3 different bars. They had live bands [... read more] playing quite a few evenings near the lobby. The staff were always cheerful and very respectful. We stayed for 2 weeks. It was nice to walk into Bucerias market. We walked 3 times and rode the bikes once. The Royal Decameron is very well organized and clean. I look forward to returning again!

Family friendly resort

Great beach location. We had an oceanfront room, which was well worth the upgrade. Friendly staff, and the facilities and grounds were well kept. Horseback riding available all day on the beach, which was enjoyed by many. Take your pick with a choice of massages all along the beach. Borrow a bike for a quick ride into town. The 15 minute walk was also enjoyable for fresh oysters and ceviche. All in all this is a nice family resort.

Nice stay

We go back to this resort because we like the layout of the grounds, it's spread out nicely rather than being a massive concrete building. The grounds are nicely kept with lots of palm trees! This is our 5th time back. Although we love it, our arrival to our room was a HUGE disappointment to say the least. Upon entering the room I noticed a very large fresh blood stain on the settee cover in the room. I then started to check the room more closely and found lots of little clear elastics all over [... read more] the floor, garbage, sand , dust bunnies and a pair of earrings behind the nightstand. There were no facecloths and only 1 handtowel in the bathroom, the toilet had not been cleaned and the baseboards were filthy! We had no hangers in the closet. I'm not a person who needs a fancy room but it needs to be clean and this room was not. I didn't smell any chemicals. I went to the front desk to have someone come to fix it which they did, and this time I could smell the chemicals and it was clean. We also emailed the resort a couple of weeks before arriving asking to NOT have a room with a connecting door, well, our room had a connecting door and we were kept awake 3 nights with a family next door to us.

Not too bad

A lot of people with kids. No fridge in room. Internet only in lobby and sometimes other close locations. Food is OK but only in central buffet little better - people after couple days lined up to enter there. Japanese restaurant not good. Tai and Brazilian very good. Italian like a sprint - "please eat your food fast and go". Italian salmon are great but small portion for big guy - not good. Staff are friendly . Tours not provided by resort, but company you bought tour and 3-4 times overpric [... read more]ed(300-400 dollars). Through airport tour guys normal pricing 30-70 dollars including lunch. Tours through nearest tour guy(on front of resort) not healthy . Girl told me do not take some sea tour because of food and transportation poor. Also mosquitos in mountains.
