Great Resort

The Hotel was very wheelchair friendly the room was large and very accommodating with a walk in shower.The beaches were amazing and the grounds and pool are beautiful.But most of all the staff were wonderful and are there to help.Being disabled I found it very easy to get all around they even helped me get on the beach.

Nice resort

The hotel was nice want to upsell for more money but not upgrade , the difference is old rooms versis renovated rooms. Not worth it, Food is ok but not impressive always asking for tips and the passo is too overvalued would will not go back to Cuba as it is not worth the money spent

Great staff

Well maintained grounds! Beach was fantastic! Food for price,great! The club was close to my room,I thought would have been good. But it wasn't promoted very well so there was never many people there. Lots of people I talked to had been before. The staff was exceptional. I would love to come back!

Very Relaxing

Beautiful gardens, lovely art, not overly crowded. Beautiful beach. Very limited live Cuban music entertainment - given all the wonderful music and musicians in Cuba, somewhat of a surprise. Good for a quiet do nothing and relax and read and Beach walk vacation . Lots of cigarette smokers.

Nice resort

Be Live Los cactus - nice resort, about 2 km from town roughly if you want to go there frequently need a cab. Booking a la cartes was an issue not enough space and you were allowed to book the days in advance so lots would book ahead and not show up. Los had nice suites if you book suite with garden view or Ocean view. We got the junior suites cause I booked run of mill resort or something and they give you what they have left. There is a big nightclub right behind the junior suites and its v [... read more]ery loud until 3:45 am on Saturday nights and Thursday nights. We would not stay in the junior suites again. The buffet was decent. The resort is smaller and less people than other resorts in that area.The resort is really clean and the grounds are well kept.The beach and ambience were very nice. Did not have a commercial feel. Nice staff as well. It really depends where you want to be. Cab to town or walk really.

Extremely Dissapointing

I’m sorry to say I will never choose Sunwing for vacation again. From the airplane delays, the lack of response to my concerns, a very marginal hotel and a rip off on the tour. How does your company put an airplane on for the return trip without the capacity for enough fuel. I have flown over 200 flights in my life and yours was the worst. I sadly reiterate I would not choose Sunwing again

All good...rooms being renovated, beach was as beautiful as we’ve ever seen. A hidden gem.....don’t miss out on it. Close to town of Varadaro.Go to the Beetles Bar, relax at Calle 62. The staff are the BEST!

Good and Bad

This hotel had some strong and weak points. We had a good time regardless, as we always do in Varadero. Here are the pros: Almost all of the staff at this resort were incredible. They went above and beyond with no expectation of tips. We tip anyway, but did not feel pressured to do so. Mabelle at the coffee bar and Theresa at the beach bar were particularly amazing. The grounds are mature and therefore very beautiful. So many palm trees and lush gardens :) The resort is small and everything is easy to get to. There are no long walks to anything, which was great. The beach is gorgeous. There is some garbage closer to the beach chairs (I picked up and threw out so many straws that had been left on the ground) but overall it was an absolutely beautiful beach. These pros made the trip for us. The cons: When we arrived at 11pm having never been to this resort, someone pointed and said that our room was that way. We had to haul our luggage in the dark, over grass and up uneven stairs to find our room. As it is an older resort the room we had was very musty and everything fabric (curtains, bed skirt, shower curtain, chairs, etc) had mould on it. We had a tropical suite in the larger building. The view was gorgeous but it was almost unbearable to sleep surrounded by so much mould. We asked to change rooms the first night but were told we had the best room. We were concerned that we would be moved to a room with a less ideal location that would be just as musty. All in all it was a very bad first impression. Our room cleaner, Nancy, who we met the next day, was so very sweet and did her very best to keep everything clean and smelling better. The only solution to this issue is a complete renovation, so I really felt for the cleaners. The pool was also not in good condition but we were there for the beach, so it was not an issue for us. The other con was the food. We met several people who got sick from the buffet, so we chose to avoid it completely. The a la Carte restaurants were better (again, amazing staff), but we did end up going into Varadero twice for dinner so that we could fill up. The other major con was the lack of supplies that the staff had to work with. They frequently ran out of various alcohols, mint, juices and so on. I witnessed one bartender get screamed at by a guest because she had run out of dark rum. This is clearly a management issue and put the staff in difficult situations. We were told by visitors who have been going to this resort for years that it had changed owners recently and the quality of everything had declined since. It is a shame because this resort has the potential to be excellent (and apparently was for many years) but it seemed to us the current objective is cost savings. With a bit of effort, it could once again be a gem.

My second home

I have been returning to this resort twice a year for a few years now, and will continue to do so. The grounds and rooms are kept very clean and the beach is beyond beautiful. It is the staff here that make the difference. The food is good, the pool, and entertainment is good, and there is always beach chairs and palapas available. I cant wait to go back !

Nice place

Enjoyed our stay. Food needs to improve. Needs more variety Facilities need some work. Had to change room because toilet and lights didn't work. They upgraded us to better room. Beach was amazing. Grounds are nice

Home away from home

This hotel formerly The Breezes has been our go to place for many years. Owners/Managers come and go, the staff continues to please us, smiles every day and a desire to ensure any problems encountered are handled promptly. Cuba is a communist country not capitalist as we are but the people are warm, friendly and respectful. I will not bore you with the pros and cons about food, drink, hotel rooms, what I will say is a week,10 days or whatever time you spend will be very relaxing and whatever  [... read more]stress you have in your life will vanish. The beach is amazing, the weather so much warmer than here, sports if you desire, many sites to see or not. We have tried other hotels in the area but always return here, it's fun and economical. Money well spent

I was looking for cheap vacation and i found it. Hotel was as expected. A quite a bit older. But if anything was wrong with the room they would upgrade no problem. Cuba does not have great food. The buffet had options, maybe equal to places costing 70% more that ive stayed at. I heard the restaurants were good but i always missed reserving and days i did make it up, were the wrong days lol. The staff would walk right past empty cups in the sand all day long. I resorted to cleaning my own areas and when walking up from a swim in the ocean. Very nice staff otherwise.

Great Resort

The stuff in the hotel are very friendly and the resort is big full of activities. I went to this hotel on September 14-18 which was singles week. Didn’t know in advance. Met people from different countries and cultures. Would definitely go back to this resort again.

Beautiful Resort

Hotel Los Cactus’ resort is beautiful. We were pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness of the grounds and rooms. The staff do an excellent job maintaining the resort and tending on the guests. The biggest issue was the food - both my partner and I struggled with finding food at the buffet that agreed with our stomachs. However, the a la cartes were great, best meals we had all week! Fantastic resort

The room was great the atmosphere was fantastic would have been a lot better if there was food or snacks available 24/7 as having to eat on a schedule really throws off your plans during your trip and not having anything when your hungry is very frustrating. The buffet was also the exact food everyday which was not the greatest but it was ok

Very nice resort

Lots of seating and coffee shops..upgrade to a suite. Nice grounds and keep very clean. Food was really good for cuba. Service was good Would recommend this resort but will not return This resort has lots to offer its guest and will do anything to keep you happy

Los Cactus, Varadero, Cuba

First impressions are so important: Due to a delayed flight and being the second to last stop on the bus, we did not arrive until after 2:00 a.m. We did not find an employee to show us to our room. We were given a tiny map and the directions were scribbled on the map. Fortunately, another guest along with the Italian cook took our suitcases and showed us to our room. The Junior Suite room was spacious. The bar fridge and coffee maker did not work because the electrical connections were loose.  [... read more]Sparks could be seen when trying to connect any 240V connector. The chain on the sliding door was not screwed in allowing anyone to just come in from the patio. Finally, the bidet was leaking. We complained about all of the above issues: Someone did come in to fix the chain on the door: he (she) used two screws (no nuts) to attach the chain holder to the door. Anyone could have just slide the door open and push the piece out of the door. Another complaint had the tech come once again to put a proper attachment to the chain holder. The elec. connection was never fixed and the bidet was still leaking in spite of someone cleaning the grout or caulking from around the base. Otherwise our room was quite acceptable. Now back to the main reception area: in the men's washroom, the three urinals were out of order when we arrived. Two weeks later when we left, all three were still out of order. WiFi - yes we purchased a one hour card for one peso. Unfortunately, in spite of only using it sparingly it ran out of time. Similarly with the second card. Only then were we told we had to turn off the WiFi otherwise the card would run out of time. Why were we not told thus upon the purchase of the first card? Restaurants - only two a la carte restaurants: Italian and Cuban. Both were very good. Air transat offered us a special dinner on Wednesday nights - outside at the Grill site. This was excellent. General restaurants: the food was typically Cuban with no spicing but who goes to Cuba for the cuisine? The food was plentiful, good and filling. The staff were excellent. Whatever we required they provided it. I wonder if the resort was only 30% full, how would they cope with food demand if the resort was 70% occupied. Finally, there were concrete stones in the pool area that were damaged (several women tripped and fell over some stones). They were not being repaired. Entertainment: as in other Cuban resorts, the entertainment was basically in Spanish yet there were mostly Canadians in attendance; The MCs were always too loud speaking into the microphone so were difficult to understand. The shows, esp. the Cuban dancers were excellent. The Tuxpan Resort next door played loud base disco music until 4a.m. Sunday which kept us awake. Would we return? Fortunately, we are Canadian and thus we accept some of these conditions. So, yes I believe we would.

Good resort for the right price

Rooms are dated, beds are hard and the pillow where flat. Was placed in the room that had the Disco in the building, which when we had booked we where told we where not in but it was only in the weekend so it was only the first few nights that we heard the vibrations through the walls. the grounds where in some disrepair but they where fixing as we where there. New beach hut where in place and there was never an issue with getting a chair at the beach or the pool. Pool was dated but the workers [... read more] said they where fixing this summer. Food the first day was terrible, but drastically improved the rest of the trip. The drinks where great. Staff was friendly as we expected in Cuba. Close to Varadaro, cheap taxi ride to the town, this is a great resort if you can get it for 1000 dollars and under. We paid a bit to much.

Beautiful Holiday

The hotel is absolutely spotless and the grounds are incredibly beautiful. The staff are so friendly and treat you like family. They go out of their way to make sure you are happy. The food was good and there was a variety to choose from. The beach well beyond words. Overall a wonderful vacation.
