Decent 3 star

Traveled Jan 29-Feb 5 2015. The resort grounds are very nice and well kept. Staff are seen often gardening, cleaning pools and helping to provide loungers and at times drinks on the beach. Our room was in the south section which is the older section of the resort but it is a great location as the 24 hr bar and snacks is close by and two very clean pools. It is about a 7 minute walk to the beach. The beach is amazing and you can always get a lounger and shade. To the right of the beach there is a [... read more] path which takes you to the beach bar and grill (2 minute walk) to the left on the beach you can easily access the north section pool bar and grill. The buffet as any resort gets repetitive; however, we had roast beef, pork, potatoes, rice etc. Breakfast was omelets, in-season fruit. We ate at snack bar often (pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, sandwiches). The food is not the best but I have had worse in Cuba. The room was well maintained, extra blankets and pillows. Beds are older but we slept well. The only dowfall was not hot water for our first three days (solar heated and it had been cloudy the week before our week of sun). It certainly did not ruin our vacation.

Amazing experience

I went with my family and are highly satisfied with our stay in Brisas del Caribe: It was clean, drinks and food were good in general, I specially loved their pastry. The resort made sure there was always something to do, and the best of all was their staff: amazing people. Of course there were minor issues but not worth a complain. I highly recommend this resort and the plan offered by Tripcentral.

Lovely beaches

basic rooms but very clean, nice beaches, great coffee, fantastic baked goods at the buffet (both breads and desserts). the staff were absolutely lovely especially with the children (it was a family vacation - 9 adults, 7 little ones). i wish it was closer to havana, but overall, it was a good experience.

Amazing Resort and Staff

This was our first trip anywhere and we were blown away! This resort is beautiful, well kept grounds and pools, the food was good, always a variety to choose from. The beach is amazing, beautiful white sand and crystal clear water, so warm too! The staff treated us like gold, Richard, Omar, Alfredo, Margarita, Giselle, Martha and so many more! Fantastic!

Always enjoy The Brisas del Caribe. They are doing a lot of renovations and once done will look great. The people make the resort. We have made fantastic friends over the 6 years we have stayed there. The food was fine of course the bread is sooooo good and fresh daily. Sometimes a little repeative but can always find something good. Service is the best in all areas. My only beef is with the Russian guests who are beyond rude to staff and other guests. Pushy, loud, drunk 90% of the time, but th [... read more]ey are the same at all the resorts. Other than the Rude Russions it is always a wonderful vacation at the Brisas.

An "ok" resort

1. The food was reused everyday 2. The sheets were not cleaned even when they were asked to clean it 3. Activites were not available 4. Plus side, the people were extremely friendly and respectful!! THANK YOU

Very nice resort

All facilities such as rooms and pools were clean and well maintained. Staff were very accommodating and the service was superb. However, the food left a lot to be desired and was very disappointing, unfortunately.

It was a trip to remember.

My wife and I stayed at the Brisas Del Caribe from March 22nd - March 29th, 2014. The grounds were splendid, well kept and picturesque. The workers ensured daily that the presentation of the hotel was priority. The staff were exceptional in trying to assist with what they could. Always smiling making us feel comfortable. The public areas of the resort were spacious and enjoyable. The pools are small, but quaint, making it easier to make conversation with strangers and learn about their culture [... read more]. The coffee area was my favorite, spending many of my frequent visits enjoying a smoke and a cup of jaffee. The rooms were horrendous, I wish they were better, but I would be lying. We switched 3 times...eventually we just settled and stayed in a room full of bugs my wife slept with a hoodie over her head and fully clothed. At least it kept us out of the room. Dinning was fair, you will not go hungry...unless you are picky. Lobster night was the best. Overall, for the dollar, it wasn't bad. For a good time with lowered expectations, we were able to enjoy the necessities of what the resort could provide for a week in the beautiful country of Cuba for just under $1500 combined. Olah!!!

We will be back a third time!

After getting married at this resort in 2008, we decided to come back in March of 2014. We were not disappointed. The staff are so nice and helpfull, the gardens are beautiful and the beach is breathtaking. We enjoyed fresh bread, seafood and veggies at the buffet and resturants. Our room was old but kept clean and in good working order. The only thing I would change? Some of the guests! Loud, unruly and some seem to not know the concept of flushing a toilet. We will be back next year for sure!

A real taste of Cuba!!!

Brisas Del Caribe was a postcard of Cuban hospitality!!!.The resort was open and inviting. Staff were friendly and always smiling!!! Our family (incl kids 2,7,11) had an amazing time. The beach was like a picture..beautiful blue waters and sand full of seashells. Definitely a FAMILY FRIENDLY place!!! The food was acceptable as long as you had an open mind. This resort is low key and appealed to us as a family looking for a place to relax. We didn't think twice about walking barefoot in the lobby or my 2 yr old playing with his Thomas trains by the coffee bars. We were in vacation mode and the Brisas Del Caribe gave us the best place to enjoy it. We will definitely go back!!! It is the only resort for us!!!

Average

The hotel itself was very old and definitely hasn't been upkept in a while. They had overbooked at the time that we had booked. Our room had a strange smell and the air conditioner constantly made a very loud noise which made it hard to fall asleep. The buffet was not big enough to accommodate all the people that they had booked. We ended up having to wait in a long lineup just to get into the buffet some nights. One major thing that was a nuisance about the beach was that they didn't have a bar. You had to walk back to the pool area or beach grill. I wouldn't recommend this resort to anyone.

Great resort for your money

In need of major renovations

Well, we knew it was not a 5 stars resort, but giviing it a 2 stars would have been generous. The rooms are run-down. We had to change rooms due to the condition of our first room. I guess they put everyone in the worse rooms they have on the first day, agree to change you the next day making that second room look good. But it really is not a good room, just better then the first one. It seems to be the norm. They overbook and everyone plays the musical room game. We are very tidy people, made our own bed in the morning and only requested towels every second day. The only day that we asked to have our sheets changed. She gave us twin bed sheets that she put sideways on a king size bed. The food was bad. We didn't care about the selection, it was the quality of it was far from good. It's time for Cuba to spend some of tourist cuban pesos on culinary school for their chefs. If you are going to tip or give some gifts to the resort staff. Give it to the ground keepers, the activity staff or the secuity guy as you enter the beech. They do not benefit from all the tiping or gifts that the other resort staff get. That's exactly what we did and we stopped gifting our moody maid. I even found out that the gift you leave them, such toiletory or clothing. They turn around and sell it to the the staff you should be tipping. Don't drink the water from the large Getorade plastic containers by the outdoor bars. My wife did that and guess what, she didn't have the best of nights. Cuban people are great, friendly and no matter where you go or what time it is. You will always be safe. The beech was great. Are they the best in the Carabeen's, well I think that depends who you speek too. I have have been to Europe, to the Dominicain Republic, Mexico and Florida. It's all a matter of taste. The Lifeguards at this resort are totally usaless. Their only concirn are that you don,t go over the allocated time for the free water sports rentals. But besides thaht you will find them picking up all the single girls onthe beech or trying to sell you some cuban cigars or one of their friend tour package. Don't run into trouble in the water, cause they will be no where to be found, usless you happen to be the nice looking girl on ther beech. I'm spanish and had no problem with the language. It was my first time in Cuba and my last. It's not worth the savings.

Decent resort. Good for Familes.

Older areas need some repair work. Some leaking roofs in the corridors. Friendly staff. Bicycles need fixing. Like most Cuban resorts, there needs to be no smoking. I'd like to see more varied entertainment in the evenings.

Ok if you just need a inexpensive trip

A little run down. Needs repair a bit dirty. Good staff. close to town. Boring food. Great coffee bar. Nice beach. not the greatest entertainment. room was ok just a bit of musty smell, great maid. freindly guests, vast varitey of ages. alacarte s were ok. It was hard to exchange money at the hotel best to get it at the airport. Excellent lobster dinner .

A bit dissappointing.

The Hotel (Brisas Del Caribe, Santiago De Cuba) seems to be on its' last legs. Only half the resort was operative. Rooms were above standard for a Cuban three star hotel. Staff were wonderful. Beach was much less groomed or groomable compared to Varadero. However, we enjoyed the climate far more than Varadero. Pool was closed for two days due to an algae bloom which could have been avoided with proper maintenance and elimination of the swim up bar. OK with a great beach

First of all, I have to say that expectations of a 3+ star hotel in Canada is slightly "different" than in Cuba. The hotel itself is dated and needs an update. One of the rooms we had was very musty. However the cleaning and maintenance staff do the best with they have. The grounds are maintained quite well. Once you realize it is what it is, you can sit down and enjoy yourself. The beach is great and is the best feature of the Brisas Del Caribe. Nice white sand, very little rocks and clear blue [... read more] water. In fact I thought it was the best beach of that strip. After a storm they had cleared the beached of any sea weed that rolled into shore. Because we enjoyed the beach so much, we spent very little time at the pool. The food is OK but you may have to spend time in line in the omelet and pasta station. We ate a few times in Varadero (go see Don Alex restaurant!) so we did not get tired of the same food all of the time. Drinks were OK and plentiful. Service is very good especially when you get to know a few of the staff. They can make the stay a lot of fun. We were with a wedding party and there were a few issues with room locations for everyone (we moved once) and some organization. Overall they made things work out. No internet at the hotel (even if you could purchase it) but that is fairly common in Cuba. Overall the stay was OK. If it weren't for the beach & staff however, I would be hard pressed to stay there again.

So..so resort

Staff are GREAT ....food not much choice. Run down surroundings, no light at night , hallways too dark and rooms. Swimming pool dirty , security is great, cleaning ladies are very helpful . Snack bar staff are awesome .

We liked the grounds and the pools, they were really nice, the rooms were clean. But the rooms had problems with the water preasure and also there was no hot water at times. As for the food, let's just say I was expecting better.
