Relaxing Resort with great food!!!

I thought the hotel was very nice!!! Positives: - lots fun activities all the time - love the green spaces everywhere - staff was very nice and fun to be around - food was excellent, La Toscana - WOW!!! - beach was very clean and beautiful - lots of drink selections! Negative: - a lot of babies/children - bathroom in room was very dirty - shower was WAY too small - always had to wait in line at the beach bar, needed more staff - construction was noisy at the swim up bar but under [... read more]stand that it needs to take place in order to improve Overall it was a great trip and we enjoyed our stay!!!

It's alright

Tiny bathrooms, with even smaller showers, could barely fit 1 person. The food was alright, nothing spectacular, the beach was not what I expected, I was disappointed, the resort is nice over all none the less, the staff is good except for the lady at the casino, she hated her job and it showed. There are little events during the day that can be fun to do to kill some time but definitely not a party atmosphere resort. Would not recommend as a resort if you've been to other great ones, but would  [... read more]recommend as a first time down south trip. It's not bad, it's just not great, nothing 'wowed' me from it.

Excellant Resort

The Catalonia Bavaro Resort was beautiful. Very well kept grounds and the accommodation were lovely. The pool area is the fun zone and the staff keep you engaged. Weather in January was fabulous 27-30 Celsius every day. Well worth the money.

Absolutely Wonderful

The Catalonia Bavaro resort bypassed our expectations. We spent a week there from Jan 18 to 25th. The rooms were spacious, very clean, bed was comfortable, lots of towels, and fridge was fully stocked. Everything about this resort was wonderful. The lobby, pool area, beach had an abundant of chairs so there was always seating. Love that you did not have to book the specialty restaurants and there was no issue at all getting in to them....we did all 4 and they were all amazing....I would gi [... read more]ve every area a 5 plus in every way. Last but not least the staff were the best, always friendly, polite and willing to go out of their way to do anything they could to make our stay a memorable one...and not just to get a tip. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone interested in going to a Punta Cana and will definitely return...thanks for a great vacation!

Awesome resort, great food!

The hotel was kept very clean and the staff were very helpful. The only thing I was not satisfied with was the seaweed in the water and on the beach. The steak house and the carribean were by far my favourite restaurants!!

Was a nice trip

The hotel was very nice. The showers in the rooms were super small and difficult to maneuver in. The food at the buffet was nothing special. Seemed like the exact same stuff everyday. The Italian and Japanese restaurants were good though. Seemed like it took forever to get your room cleaned unless you were out of the room my 8am. The beach was really nice as well as the pool area. All being said this resort was nice.

Golf getaway

If you are looking for a resort that has golf, this is the place to go. Amazing vacation. Hotel was clean and friendly. Great pool and beach areas. Ocean had lots of floating weeds but was warm. Plenty of great restaurants. Buffet was ok.

Excellent

Beautiful beach and excellent restaurants. Well maintained property. If you like to go for long walks on the beach, this is not the resort for you because it has no other resort on either side of it. That means the beaches are full of seaweed and it is almost impossible to take long walks.

Great resort

Was really impressed with food, buffet and steak house were great!! The host at the beach buffet - Marie - was wonderful always made me feel welcome. The grounds were well maintained, beach was nice and I found all staff friendly. The resort itself is older but the rooms are well maintained.

Horrific

Let me first say that my stay at the Catalonia Royal Bavaro was horrific. We arrived at the resort on Sunday afternoon. On Monday morning we woke up with the celling leaking water over our bed and the toilet was running all night. We went back to the Reception area and complained. They then provided us with another room but I was extremely frustrated and wanted compensation so they providing us with a room on their exclusive side of the resort – Royal Bavaro Resort. (Room 1903 – ground  [... read more]level). So that morning we brought back our luggage to the main lobby and then at 3:00 p.m. we had to come back to have our luggage moved to our new room. On Wednesday night, my boyfriend and I were watching television and I dosed off. I woke up suddenly and realized there was a man in the room that had broken in and was stealing. I ran after the intruder and hurt my foot by doing so. He got a way. A prescribed pair of Oakley sunglasses and a cellular telephone (LG Nexis) had been stolen. We reported the robbery to the Royal Bavaro Manager. They had me summarize what had happened (see attached report). A security guard came to the room but they said it would take up to 72 hours to investigate and that nothing would probably come out of it. No police would be involved. Once again, we were moved to another room in the same building but on the third floor. We where then advised by the Air Transat Representative Pauline Decroix to go to the Police Station in order to get an official report (see attached contact information). The Catalonia was trying to sweep it under the rug. The next morning one of the Resort employee and driver took us to the police station. We spent over two hours at the police station, waiting tor the “Secretary” that was going to come in to take the report. She never showed up. I was extremely upset and an detective ended up taking my report which was being translated by the Resort’s employee. He said that once the secretary would prepare the official report we could go back and obtain a copy. At the end of the day we returned to see the Manager and they said that the report has not yet been done. I provided them my email so they could send me the report since we were departing the following morning. I never got the report!!!! Upon my return, I found on the monarch trip review website a review from the Catalonia from a couple that had also been robbed (see attached). I am extremely shaken up about this robbery and all the problems we incurred. DO NO SEND ANY OTHER CLIENT TO THAT RESORT!

Surprised

We were not told that the pool and gym were under construction before we booked at this hotel. Was a shame. We were also not told that the air conditioning units were broken, and it was days before they fixed anything. The pool…. More than half of it is under construction until December, then they will shut down the other part of the pool in 2017). Would have been good information to know. The piece of the pool that was opened was full of a cloudy film and had a lot of dirt in it each day. [... read more] The issue was that the skimmer was not working, the water level was low and stuff gathered every day in the pool - garbage, film, dirt, wrappers, etc. It was so disgusting…. You’d have to see it to believe it. Really ruined the fun of going to the swim up bar to get a drink at 4pm each day. Entertainment with the staff all day/early evening was amazing. The best I've seen. Thanks to Julio, Teddy Bear (Henrike), Dennis, and Simon the pool bartender who really gets into the music and dance. They made the trip worthwhile but I'd never go back to this resort knowing they can't keep things running smoothly.

One of the best resorts

My husband and I have done a lot of traveling and I have to say that this was one of our top favorite spots. The people are fantastic. The food was great, the grounds are kept very clean. The only thing I would suggest is a copy of the activities should be in every room. Booking with tripcentral made it very easy to book this vacation.

Amazing family vacation July 2016

I just wanted to say thank you to Quico and Noemi for assisting us during our stay at the Catalonia. Upon our arrival at the Catalonia Beach Resort & Spa Hotel., Quiico infomed us that we got upgraded to the Royal Bavaro. We were a group of five (5) and they upgraded us all to the Royal Bavaro Catalonia side which was absolutely great. The rooms were clean and spacious and we never missed anything. There was never a dull night, they made sure that something was going on at all times, Beach party, dancing, disco nite etc. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone who would like to vacation in Punta Cana. Amazing resort!!

Excellent Resort which exceeded our expectations! We were upgraded to the Privileged Club in villa 18 courtesy of Quico and Neomi at check-in – an upgrade which was well appreciated. Impeccable – from the service and friendliness of the staff, including cleanliness, food variety, activities, location, décor, beach access and service – simply excellent!

Good

Pros: staff is friendly and helpful, food is good, resort is clean and well taken care of. Cons: we got a privileged room on the ground floor, terrible odor of sewage in the bathroom; we had to keep running AC at low setting so it circulates the air to minimize the odor. Probably because we bought a privileged package they tried to sell us a travel club membership. We did not intent to buy anything, the staff assured us it would be a get to know presentation with the gift because we are privile [... read more]ged customers, however in fact they try to sell membership which was a waste of time for us and no gift probably because we were not interested in buying, I would prefer honesty upfront, so we would not waste the time.

Beautiful Beach and everything very close

Dining was very good but the wine was not so much so. The hotel was clean but slightly outdated. To upgrade to a currrent standard came a cost of $35 U.S. per occupant.Golf was of good value at a cost of 35$ per player for the cart with no cost for the golf. Normally 45$ but we were a large group.

Resort has deteriated the last few years

The room was in fairly good shape, however the bathroom required a lot of attention. The grounds were well kept and cleaning was ongoing. The food was good, nothing to rave about. Entertainment was enjoyable, saying that seating was inadequate. The drinks were of a sub standard type, the taste was like gasoline. The staff were both friendly and courteous.

Would go back again, Great time

Resort was between 4.5 and 5. The room was big and bed was comfy. Buffet food was very good with some thing for everyone. Steak House was awesome. Grounds spectacular. Clean Beach with lots of chairs.

Perfect Family Vacation

I spent one week at this resort along with my sister and parents - April 6-13/16. We stayed in rooms 2102 and 2105 which were very nice rooms and great location because of proximity to beach and pool. I have stayed at several resorts in the D.R. and would have to rate this one as one of the best. The grounds at the resort were absolutely beautiful. I would recommend this resort to anyone and I plan to return.
