Small, not too busy, and nice beach

Overall good for price and season we went in. Travelled with my parents, wife and 2 year old. Food can be a bit cold. Beach is beautiful and property well maintained. Rooms are not the best but equipped with fridge and air conditioning. Servers and management was great.

Krazy Kawame

Kawama is a fun spot for the budget conscious while still giving you a stunning beach, comfortable bed, attentive staff and a delicious cappuccino. The shows are pretty lack-lustre but there’s always a cold bevvy at the bar and some form of excitement with the friendly colourful folk. Kawama’s location is perfect as it’s off the strip but close to town to explore the many night spots, restaurants and markets Varadero has to offer. Club kawama awful resort

dirty pillows,stinky blankets dont know the last time they were washed stinky room with poor service,,staff took forever to fix our safe..we paid for it they were quick to get our money but super slow to fix the safe..we got contamination from food and or water.unhygienic place..even the animals look unwell.awful resort will never go back.

Rencontre les attentes

Hotel Kawama, Varadero Petit Hôtel au début de Varadero, 10 minutes à pied du marché de la 8-10ieme avenue, centre-ville. Bouffe très correct, répétitive mais bon choix de viandes: porc, boeuf, poulet, poisson si on met tout dans notre assiette le premier jour... Océan très beau, eau chaude, tout est à 100-200 mètres de nos activités. Pour le prix, rien à redire.

Would choose different resort on the same beach.

Very little positives at this resort. When it's difficult to acquire a simple thing like bottled water there is many more problems. Staff are not very helpful Rooms look nice but getting a toilet or light bulb fix could take your whole week. Better to eat and get supplies off resort. Security and door staff are very friendly and helpful other than that it's touch and go. Perhaps Cuba economy plays a factor in this review and it was bad timing for our vacation at Kawama because I have heard  [... read more]it has been better in the past.

Absolutely terrible except the beach

The rooms were very run down and not cleaned. Our last day we looked under the bed to make sure we didn’t miss any of our stuff and found a flip flop from a previous guest so obviously it’s never cleaned under the beds. The food was terrible with almost no selection staff with the exception of a few people were rude and uncaring. Awful

old rundown hotel, dirty rooms, awful food...thank goodness for the beach. can literally not say one good thing about this resort. although the odd day when they put out the stale crackers and pickles for snacks was at least edible. avoid!

Skip this resort

rooms are old, outdated, and mildly gross (bloody towels) all the safes are broken and they will make you pay for them upon check in, even though the reception already knows they’re broken. be prepared to be ripped off as well...as each front desk lady makes up a different price for the safe...i “lost” $20 Canadian that day! the buffet food is evil...out of our group of 23 almost everyone was “busy in the bathroom” for most of the trip. also the resort will “run out of water” [... read more] regularly and than change the rules on how to get your hands on water each morning. overall - save your money, and your stomach ...just not worth it!

Disappointed

When travelling to Cuba everyone expects the food to be horrible which was true at this resort but it was so bad to the point we had to eat out every meal. Spend the extra $500 for a nicer hotel because you'll spend that on eating out anyways. They also ran out of bottled water and had guests going back and forth between the front desk and different bars telling us the other person had the water. There was an altercation with another guests and the hotel did nothing to resolve the issue. This was supposed to be a vacation but it felt like an epsiode of Survivor.

Good resort for the money!

Food not so good, activity crew non existent. Ocean is awesome, staff are also awesome! We ate off the resort more than on for dinner. Ate Breakfast and lunch there, grill at bar is great. Beatles bar is a must!

Worth the price

We paid $665 for a week at this resort - all inclusive. As many say, the food isn’t the greatest but that’s what you should expect in Cuba. They have buffets every day which had a decent selection and also had an Italian restaurant and International restaurant you can reserve seats to. They had great entertainment every single night, and it was different every night too. The beach was super close and beautiful of course and the room had no bugs. Home away from home

This hotel has the best staff of anywhere I have been. They do the best they can given the circumstances in Cuba. They go how to make your vacation experience the best it can be. Kalama has a beautiful beach and a very nice pool.

Good and not so good!

We stayed here for just shy of 3 weeks. We found the staff so friendly and helpful when they could be. Now we didn’t understand why the horrible made drinks only some alcohol was for special people. It isn’t all included as stated domestic and imported included must be a typo???? Only draft beer and slushy overly sweetened syrup drink that they put really low end alcohol. In the print of the inclusive description we never saw anything that said some alcohol not included. Anyway no real juice [... read more] no blender just gross syrup drink. No drinks other than water and coffee in the lobby, where in most hotels is a lovely place to hang out and have some beautiful cocktail or a beer or coffe choices are always welcomed when on vacation.. not here. They could also use a huge or a couple of fans in the lobby the air is so still in there and it is ridiculously hot and no circulation. The internet like everywhere in Cuba is hard to connect but here it is seriously bad most of the time. The bar at the beach is never open! It should be it is ridiculous to have one bar open like that it is a waste and wastage of vacation time walking around and standing in lines for everything! So talking about the snack bar ridiculous it is only open sometimes and the line up for it is sometimes over an hour for a hamburger or grilled cheese. Kind of unacceptable when every hotel has a snack bar and at anytime you can order something. It is not 24/7. Now for the dining room no air circulation at all they never opened the windows and I have never felt so claustrophobic for getting some food. So ridiculously hot and black mold all over the walls from the humidity. And no air circulation at all! How those people work in there is a miracle. They do have a small area for eating outside if you are lucky enough to get a seat. The night life here is geared mostly for the Russian people we hardly heard any Cuban music the place was full and full of Russians. They drank way to much and a few times we did not feel so safe to be out trying to enjoy an evening walk or look at the entertainment. We saw a woman punching men the screaming and yelling in the rooms it seemed quite violent at times. I get it people drink on vacation but this was way out of control! We locked our doors and were kept up for a few nights in a row with all the commotion doors slamming people yelling people punching each other crying screaming all a little ridiculous for grown adults kind of shame on the hotel for allowing that to happen where the rooms were Such a great location, the staff was wonderful, the front desk could be a little friendlier, Vivian was the happiest nicest front desk person unlike some of the others that are there, not the most welcoming of front desk people. I work really hard at home and it takes a lot to go away, I do not come to Cuba for the bounty of food I come for the beach, the safe feeling and the people. I don’t come to pay to stand in lines and wait and eat in discomfort...I come to not stand in lines to be felt like I am away relaxing! I won’t return to Kawama I do see its charm for sure however there are other options out there that are above this level I would give Kawama 1 stair! They are behind the times for the changing ways in Cuba way behind the times!! here it is 50cucs for the safe and not returned. That is almost 65 dollars for something that is there and does not need to be maintained your card for the room opens it. First time in about 10 years that I was charged for a safe in an all inclusive. they should have stated where a superior room is on the grounds and what it includes because even if you pay for it you may not get it until you tell them it is not a superior room. We were so far away in some dark building along side a road looking at the ass end of another hotel listening to them doing dishes all night it was that close. Kawama just needs some fresh young ideas to fix this up! It needs more than lipstick it needs some fresh young minds to do this! I so badly want to say so many good things because I wanted to love this place, although it has some charm it isn’t a place I’ll return to anytime soon!

A dated but still comfortable hotel

The grounds were well maintained. Only the main pool was kept functional , but well looked after. There were many rooms with clogged toilets and drains and burned out light bulbs. The walk ways could have better night lights. The "Tosca" restaurant was stifling hot without AC ?? There many shortages with over worked staff because of economic cutbacks , but they still offered friendly service , as they say "that's Cuba".

BEWARE

I have been to this hotel before and had some small issues but this time was not good, I understand that in September you will get a lot of locals on the resort but it was a horrible experience. Twice I was turned away from the buffet as "it was done, no food left" but I watched locals carrying massive trays of food out, they were heaped up. I went to go the snack bar and the line up was long and I watched as the locals were getting 6 hamburgers 5 sandwiches and countless hot dogs. I went into t [... read more]own and ate. Several times we ran out of beer and they had to bring in cans of buck and arrow, ( NASTY), but I watched as workers and locals staying on the resort come to the back door of the beach bar with small white buckets filling them up with beer. Ice, for 3 days they was no ice on the resort. NONE!!!!!! I had to ask for my room to be cleaned on 2 different occasions. One time when I went to go to my room to change, my house maid was sitting outside my room waiting for me, she had gone through my stuff and was asking me for various items as "they are hard to get items",. I was angry, she opened my suitcase to show me stuff she wanted. I understand they don't have a lot, I take ALOT of extras for them but she went too far!. the nightly entertainment was always geared to the locals, I am sorry they were many other nationality on the resort as well. I will most likely return but not for a long time!!!!

A very poor resort.

When an old couple (75 yrs old) takes a two week vacation (all inclusive),is for rest and enjoyment. The management tried their hardest to accommodate us. They gave us a room half a mile away from the restaurant, the beach and all the other amenities. The room was very lively foul of mosquitos, flies, a mouse and I don't know what else. The one thing it will be very hard to digest was that we had to buy our water daily. No telephones either. We had to go outside the resort to call our son upon our arrival. In all a very disappointing experience . Very rude reception and bar personnel. We are traveling to The island since 1985.This will be our most memorable trip ever.

Club Kawama

Great spot, clean! Food was good, close to town, great staff, upgraded room to premium ocean front villa for 25 CUC a day, easy process and friendly front desk staff always willing to help. Bellboys, Tito, Yassur, Alexander were awesome, special thanks to Tito for helping out straighten out Air Canadas screwup.

Great Guest Service Experience

Hotel is not exemplary, but nothing can compare to the warmth and welcoming guest experience the staff at Club Kawama gave us. For first timers, We made great memories here and greater friends. Would highly recommend this to my family and friends.

More than what we asked for!

The food was good and quite a selection,both hot and cold.No pina coladas until the last day.the fridge was cold and the security box worked.we did not get our pillows that we asked for.we got an upgrade from economy to valet parking for the same price.the beach was clean.

This resort was amazing the staff were great all the people were friendly The room we had was AMAZING ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!! We Was Entertainment Every Night Which Was Always A Pleasure To Go To Every Night I Would Give This Resort A Much Bigger Star!
