Very good!

The hotel was clean, the staff very friendly and nice, the outdoor area was very beautiful and colourful. I loved the live band every night! Atmosphere was very good. I will be happy to go back to Muthu again!

Absolutely loved it!

I had an excellent time at this resort. Lovely staff, beautiful grounds, gorgeous beach, I would be happy to go back! Very relaxing and enjoyable time! As for the food the fish was incredible! I don't eat meat so I was very happy about this :) Lots of healthy choices if you are vegetarian too.

Perfect resort !

Clean, perfect services, even if it is getting refurbished the staff will accomodate as much as possible. Coffee bars are excellent! If you love beach you will not regret choosing this hotel! if you want personal valet do not go there... yet if you are not fussy and enjoy great music and wonderful different shows every evening - this is the place..

Everything good, food good, nice country, nice fly, I’m and my family enjoy everything, thanks, my family enjoy everything included trip to the city Varadero, beautiful beach. Perfect all, thanks thanks thanks see you next year for sure

Good family resort

The food is okay..., the beach is beautiful, rooms are not as great! But overall this resort we liked it. In Cuba whatever you go the food is not as good, but we didn’t go for that! We had a good time, beautiful weather and beach that’s what we enjoy the most!

Amazing resort

Had a great time people and staff were great at the resort.but I wasn't happy with sunwing they forgot to pick me up for an excursion that I paid for and also forgot to pick me up from the resort to bring me back to the airport not happy with sunwing at all...

Not for everyone

The hotel it self is definitely not a four star as advertised. More like a low three. Although the grounds were lovely , the pool really needs some work done with the area around it. The beach and ocean were extremely beautiful. Water is warmer than a bath. Hotel was quite empty so finding chairs anywhere was never a problem. It Has a very nice lobby and an excellent coffee bar . Our room was a ocean view and it was simply exquisite. We had a daily Battle to get two waters a day . Neither of us drink so this was frustrating. Now ..... we were never told that their kitchen was under renovation. The worst buffet I have seen in thirty years of traveling. I can usually find food I like but this was just not acceptable. Everything you normally find on a all inclusive buffet was not available. No omelettes no pasta no fruit. On my First breakfast I was horrified to have a big cockroach laying on my napkin. Soooo gross ! After three days of eating breads ( delicious) and some pastries we decided to go to an alacarte. Thank goodness we did . How the food was so much better there was kind of quizzical. The remainder of our trip we enjoyed dinners but still not breakfasts or lunches. Would I recommend this hotel ? No not while the kitchen is under repair. Once the renovations are complete, yes I think I would .

Okay Resort

SEPT 7-10, 2018! 4 DAY TRIP TO MUTHU PLAYA VARADERO. This is my 2nd time to varadero and my 9th to Cuba. I must say varadero is not the greatest but for a 4 day trip, it did the job. Checked into the hotel around 9:45. Check in went smooth, the lady at the front was very nice. Dinner was ending at 10, she called the dinning room and told them that a party of 4 just checked in and not to close the resturant. PROS: [... read more] -24 hour lobby bar-GREAT -Coffee bar-YUM -Big lobby -Elevators for rooms -BEACH AMAZING -lots of pool chairs, beach chairs -Included pedal boats and catamaran -Rooms were okay -Room safe included -Nice gift shop -Nice workers CONS: -No people -Lack of entertaiment (daily and night) which I understand because there was only 80 people on resort -FOOD!!! buffets were bad. Had to leave the resort to get food, felt like I was at a cafeteria. -Snack bar.....only have ham and cheese sandwhiches...and burgers.. -Double decker bus...40 mins to get to downtown -Lack of excurisons Hotel was okay expect for the FOOD. Be nice to the workers, tip them nice, bring them gifts...you will get better service. Don't expect too much from this resort. 6/10

Meh

Hotel was run down. Not a 4 star maybe 2 or low 3. Rooms were small. Bathroom was decent. Beds were alright. Pillows were awful and the room always had a funky moldy smell. Pool was nice, buffet was dark and dingy. The lobby bar was nice and reception was nice and roomy. Food was so repetitive same things every night over and over again. Staff was the best I’ve seen on a resort. Everyone very friendly and very service oriented. A dollar goes along way!

Bad choice

Mold in rooms bottoms of door jambs in bathroom rotting old and very out dated resort pool has many tiles missing and yes they are sharp walk over bridge to the pool as broken stairs and flooring rotting the swim up bar is permanently closed extremely small resort this resort sucks bad but there are a few wonderful amazing people the rest of the workers only want your tips if you don’t tip this is not the resort for you. this is a low end resort. I should have believed the reviews

Wouldn’t recommend it..

We specifically booked this resort as a cheap, last-minute getaway, knowing full well that it was nowhere close to a 5-star resort, and we were right. Food, accommodation and even staff.. not good, at all. Beach was spectacular (we spent all of our time there) and the nightly entertainment was also very enjoyable. All of the buildings had a lot of water damage and leakage issues.. a steady stream of raindrops coming down from the light fixtures in the main hallways, leaving puddles all over the place. Thank goodness we specifically booked a room on the highest floor off to the side of the building where there seemed to be no water leaking in. If we hadn't... there would have been a real problem and I don't know if I could have stayed with water leaking under my door and through the walls. Most people didn't seem to mind but we also got the impression that the vast majority of those staying on this resort were from Cuba themselves on their own family vacation.. so perhaps they understood/accepted the state of the resort 'as is' is to be expected. Frankly, I was shocked that more people didn't take one look at the resort's many shortcomings and demand a full refund. Also, we understand that it is expected that we tip (we exchanged hundreds of dollars specifically for tips, and also went to our local general store before the trip to buy gifts to leave every day for our maids, such as lotions, candles, candy, etc.), but the fact that staff will treat you poorly if you don't tip them is just unacceptable. We are paying our resort fee for the staff to do their job. Tips, in my mind, are reserved for staff that go out of their way to make your stay more pleasant or continue to provide great to excellent service. To have so many grumpy bartenders or waitstaff that serve you in a terrible mood and expect to get a tip have another thing coming. Some would ignore you altogether, unless they knew that you were going to give them a very large tip for a small, watered down, alcoholic drink in a plastic cup that you've already paid for in your resort fee. One gentleman refused to leave our room without a tip at 11PM after offering to bring our bags to our room upon arrival.. this is a service we neither requested nor wanted as we could find our room just fine ourselves and had no problem carrying our own bags. Even though we apologetically explained to him that we: 1) Just landed after a delayed flight 2) Haven't had a chance to exchange any money 3) The currency exchange was closed at that hour 4) We could only exchange money at the resort or at a bank downtown which was also closed.. the man refused to leave without a tip. I walked into the bathroom out of sheer terror and left my poor husband in the room trying to deal with this individual who would not leave. We offered to find him tomorrow and give him a tip once the currency exchange was open, but he refused to depart without any money that night, so my partner had to give him his cologne in order for him to leave our room. That was our lovely, "Welcome to the Resort!" experience. Additionally, the amount of stray animals roaming around the resort is also concerning. I understand that this is Cuba, but to have so many stray cats sitting on the tables at the beach restaurant where food is served, without the staff at least shooing them away, is alarming. Now I understand why both my partner and I have been sick for days upon returning home. With all of that said, we made the best of our time because we still spent a good amount of money on this trip and wanted to enjoy our vacation that we took time off work for, but I would never, ever, recommend this resort. If you're taking the time to plan a vacation already, I feel like you would be best to pay that extra $100-$150 more on a resort that has better ratings and reviews.

Nice

Rooms nice and clean. Food was good. Restaurant because we were there for the 2nd time we got Lobsters dinner is nice appreciation form to say thanks. The beach was the BEST .we asked for king side bed and had double From desk ladies were so good they change us 2 days latter

Great Resort!!

This resort was great! We really enjoyed our week, staff were very friendly, clean. We heard a lot of negative talk regarding the food in Cuba.. however, the food and service at this resort was absolutely better than what I was expecting. The only downside to our vacation was that we were unaware that there was a Cuban holiday during the time of our stay. Great staff

Rooms are deteriorating, grounds are in good condition, pool needs to be repaired and kept clean. For what I heard there is some renovations happening in the next 2 months, the one section of the hotel is already closed.

Disppointing

this was our 2nd time at this resort, and we went back as we were meeting friends. The staff was AMAZING, however the hotel services were terrible. The al a cart's were not available, and the food at the buffet's were very limited and hardly any selection. We ended up going off the resort to eat more times than at the hotel. The nightly entertainment was great, but during the day, there was nothing going on. no entertainment by the pool, or on the beach like last time. Excellent for the price

It was well kept and clean our room was great and very clean. Pool needs work done to it. Needs some other repairs, older hotel, but overall for the money it was worth it. Staff is very friendly and cheerful always willing to help you. Nightly shows we’re great congratulations to the performers.

Great resort!

Muthu playa was a great resort. It was clean, food was good we never went hungry. Staff were welcoming and great, I became close to a few of them and we're sad to have to say goodbye. Shows were good, Great performances. Sunwing Travel rep was great very informative, he helped us pick our excursioins baced on his experience. He did not disappoint us at all. Fabulous staff! Nightly Shows were very good. Comfortable rooms. Close to the beach. Beach was beautiful! Food wasn't great, but I don't eat sea food. Had a great time. Loud banging coming from another resort for a few days. Close to town and excursions.

Great Stay for the a low budget vacation

The hotel was old and needed lots of renovations but VERY clean and the staff was amazing. The food was for the most part good with the occasional bad days. It's def worth waiting to buy your excursions once you get there as you get better bargains and options. It has a red hop on and off bus a few minutes away from the hotel which was great and taxi rides are very cheap going into the city if you don't want the bus
