Amazing Resort

The whole experience was breathtaking, the only complaint that I have is that our bed was very uncomfortable. They could offer more entertainment especially during the day. It would be nice to have music playing around the poor area throughout the entire day. Not much going on in the evening, they had a couple of shows in the Santiago room. If they did have more going on, not much advertising about it.

Did not disappoint

We spent a week at this resort. While the beach is not the nicest I have seen, the accommodations were satisfactory and the people (staff and guest) were very nice and helpful. We are already planning on returning.

Going back home!

This was our second time at the Melia Varadero and it will not be the last. It is clean, spacious and most of all the staff give their 150%. The food is good, the atmosphere is magical. What a place!

Nice resort!

Everything was great but there is no entertainment at night when everybody are ready to enjoy, during the day was not bad at all. Hotel, rooms, beach were great and I am sure everything else would be better and feel better if the weather was a little bit nicer. I would go back for sure!!!!!

Feels like Coming Home

This was our third stay at the Melia Veradaro - our last visit was two years ago - and it felt like coming home. Great flight (only 2 of us in a three seat row), quick transition from plane to bus to hotel; checked in in ten minutes. A week of good weather (one day lost to high winds), by the pool every day. Loved it - especially the staff. Cubans are such a generous people.

Would not go back

We were moved 4 times, first room king sized bed, second room no hot water, third room a king sized bed, 4th room was dirty, they were going to move us again I said no come and clean this room. The Manager Oscar made our a la carte reservations, gave us a bottle of wine and free massages. The sheets were never changed there was sand in my bed. The bathrooms on the main floor stunk like rotten sewage for 2 days. The bathroom in the pool area was nice -but too small, only 2 stalls and there [... read more] was often a line up. We hired a driver to go into Havana - we were also supposed to get a tour guide. We got no tour guide and when I asked Oscar about it he checked and said that was wrong and the cab company will give you back $30. I said fair enough, then he said $30 Canadian dollars, I said I paid in CUC's and that is what I should get back.

Great Vacation

We would totally recommend the resort. Although the food was only ok, everthing else was fabulous. The Level was well worth the extra cost as we were treated like royalty. The beaches and the scenery were second to none.

Terrific Week

Melia Varadero is a great resort. The staff we exceptional and upgrading to the Level was a great value for the money. The restaurants were somewhat lacking, but the buffet was good and we didn't go for the food so we were not overly disappointed.

Very nice resort. There was the second time for me and my husband.

The hotel newly decorated , the service exelent friendly atmosphere,the rooms are nice. The beach is butiful,and clean.Only thing they have to inpruve this is the food. The pr manager I have to said in the 4th floor Oscar is very nice and friendly helpful person.

Lovely resort - bad timing

We arrived in Cuba on the day of Fidel Castro's death and at the beginning of 9 days of public mourning. Therefore, we were very restricted in terms of activities off the resort, and there was no music or entertainment on the resort - a very somber environment. However, I would comment that the resort itself was very nice. The beach was lovely, and we participated in swimming, snorkeling, boating and lounging. W [... read more]e really liked the "Level" service and used the Level lounge area regularly, and the concierge service to book the internal restaurants, currency exchange, and general information. Food, beverages and service was very good, beyond expectations. My husband was looking forward to tennis and lessons, but the resort pro did not make his appointments and so that was disappointing. The gym equipment was not great, but not important to most of our group. All in all, great resort, great weather, but bad timing for us.

Amazing resort

We stayed on the level and it is definitely worth the extra money. We loved the Steak House for level clients and all the personal service available on the 5th floor. The manager of the level is an amazing woman who checked in on us on numerous occasions to make sure we were happy with everything.

First time in Cuba was Amazing trip

We had an all inclusive package which is great deal. Amazing place for family vacation and couples. Our room are neat and clean everyday, food are great and lot's of selection especially the desserts. The pool and beach are beautiful and clean. The staff are friendly and I love nightly entertainment. I can't wait to go back on this place.........

Worth every penny !

absolutely blown away. 15 years of travel and we can honestly say best resort we have stayed at. the grounds are colourful and clean. the staff went out of there way to make sure you are takin care of. plenty of places to eat threw out the day with a great variety of food. there was something going on everyday on the grounds like a cuban day bbq party to a white party at night with amazing entertainment. the beach has some erosion issues with the sand but its no big deal it just looks strange at [... read more] first but its an amazing beach with fun and sun and a server bringing you drinks . awesome. the only thing that was a little disapointing was the disco. there was to much of a gap between nightly show and the disco opening up. you want to keep the energy going but the wait time kinda makes ya wanna call it a night. and more international music is a must for international tourists. but thats my thoughts on the matter. this little issue would not keep me from returning. this resort is very well laid out .incredible staff and just a fun beautiful resort to stay on. i would recomend this resort to anyone wanting to go to varadero. remember the name MELIA VARADERO. put this one on your list of places to go. cheers. cant wait to come back.

Beautiful Varadero!

Melia Varadero Resort: We travel twice a year and this is not our first time to Varadero, but it is to this resort. We upgraded to the Level and were glad to do so...mostly for the food and service. We found the food to be inconsistent and the breakfast buffet was less than appetizing - there was an odor that put me off of anything they offered, but my husband liked the omelets, and the service for them went fairly quickly as there are 2 stations for the omelets - one a pan omelet and one is a  [... read more]flattop grill on the other side of the bar.... The level offered a continental breakfast which was far superior to the buffet with wonderful meats, cheeses and specialty breads not offered on the buffet. Lunch was best at the grill by the pool. As Level members, you could go to the steakhouse for lunch, the service is slow, the food is OK...but do try the stuffed squid, one of the best I've ever had - the cook on it was superb! Alas, we tried them again the next day and the cook was somewhat off, but they were still delicious... That's the thing with Melia - the inconsistency of the food... one day it's spectacular and the next was mediocre... do have the chicken curry and the pork at the Fuerteventura...this was our favourite place to eat.. we first had the lobster, then we tried the other food and decided the lobster was for the "newbies" LOL - you will always start with the lobster, but do venture out and try the other food. The best dessert by far was the Panecotta there, but again, the next day...not so great! The beaches are kept wonderful and the Level people have an area blocked off just past the bar. I think they used to serve food at that bar - but not when we were there. Only by the pool. The service in that area on the beach is fantastic, to the point of when your towel moved, the gentleman would come and fix it for you and dust off the sand from your chairs! So nice! Varadero beaches are very nice. It does have a few rocks so bring your swim shoes. The room was average, and as level occupants, I would have liked to have seen a coffee maker instead of a kettle - but I ordered room service every morning for my coffee, awesome coffee! Room cleaning was top notch - very clean! I have to say that they do not have a box of tissue in the rooms...I had a cold so I really needed more that the single pack of travel tissues they leave for you...LOL I was blowing with toilet paper...a little rough! Weird at the level service... The service at the regular bars on the compound are not great. We found that if they came and asked you for a drink by the pool in the morning and you said no thank you, that they would not ever return to you that day and you would have to go to the bar to get a drink...no swim up bar either! Which brings me to the pool, it is not heated but in the heat we were in, it was just fine by me! Someone had mentioned that it was very clean...we did not find that... it was OK but there was a bathtub ring around the upper pool where we were, so not great but very good! I asked about a bingo game or other games around the pool and was told that they did not do this.. MANAGEMENT!: Take Heed! You must start up a game of sorts every day so that your guest can win a small bottle or token of their trip...this is the very first resort I have been at that did not do this. was very disappointed as I love games...not good at them, but I still love them! They do have a lot of entertainment around in the evenings (not games) which I thought was super fantastic...put a smile on our faces every night.... All in all I've given them 4 stars as the check in was fantastic (level) and the people are so friendly...some food was great...we tipped a lot... I spent $200.00 in 5 days there, just in tips. I do believe that if you can afford to go on a vacation - you can afford to tip...I'm sure these people do not make the same kind of money we do in Canada. They really need the extra $. The room was comfy with a beautiful view and again the people really are helpful. So sorry if I sounded negative on this review - I tried to give both the good and the bad...the bad really wasn't too much of a hindrance...this is a lovely place - would I return? No, but I never do! Too much to see out there in the world...

Memories Varadero

Beautiful resort, a bit of everything for everyone. Wonderful and friendly people, good food. My only problem was that the beds need to be replaced at this resort (mattress was very old, felt like I was sleeping on springs with no paddings)

I would recommend it to anyone

The location, close to the town of Varadero was great and the hotel sat right on the ocean and had a gorgeous pool. The rooms were lovely as was the staff. We stayed on the concierge level which was worth the extra cost especially if you are a golfer as 6 rounds were included and all services (spa, tours) were offered at substantially better rates. There was a private restaurant/bar. We loved our stay at the hotel.

Best Resort I've Been to - Ever!

Hotel was clean, staff were super nice and professional. Great room for sleeping, because that's the only thing you do in a All inclusive room. Pools were great, ocean view was perfect, weather was a bit cooler at 24 - 26c and windy during our stay, but everything else was great.

Beautiful

Very nice hotel and friendly staff! I wasn't sure what to expect since i only saw pictures on the internet but I was pleasantly surprised. Much nicer than other hotels in the area and felt very safe staying there.

Very Good Trip

Great beachfront and pool. Great hospitality by staff members. Nightly entertainment was good. The food was excellent the only thing was we had a hard time making reservations for the restaurants- could have been the time of year (Christmas). Overall, happy with our stay!

Good Stay But Needs a Facelift

Good News - Staff/Service - Shows - Alcohol selection (nice surprise on red and sparkling wine....not so much on white wine) - Beach and amenities - location - TV Content Selection (nice surprise!) Bad News - Food (best food was at the outdoor Trinidad restaurant) - Room issues (water pressure/temp....air conditioning) - Overall outside appearance (needs a major face lift) Overall we had a good time
