First trip to Cuba - Incredile stay

This was the first trip to Cuba for both my girlfriend and myself. For our budget we weren't expecting anything crazy, but were incredibly pleased with the resort we stayed at! Clean room, food was good/manageable, friendly staff, and pool/beach area was beautiful. The resort itself may need a little TLC here and there but for a couple looking to relax in the sun and experience Cuba, it was awesome. Not to mention we were a 2 minute drive from Varadero! The only major complaint I had about our s [... read more]tay was on the last full day of our trip S-Trip showed up with bus loads of high school kids (high school grad trip group) looking to party and drink...we were fortunate enough to leave the next day because there were upwards of 100+ staying at the resort and they were quite obnoxious. We got lucky with the week we went (March 5-12). We would definitely go back again - not bad for a 3 star!

Ok hotel terrible food

Large clean rooms, non working fridge, kind staff, facilities included gym, nice hotel grounds. Noisy as any Cuban resort. Awesome beach. Check in was very slow didnt get our room till 4pm TERRIBLE food.

Dump!!!

We stayed on the Coral side for one night and moved to a new resort. The resort is rundown. There are also abandoned buildings in the middle of the resort. This was our fourth time in Cuba and this was by far the worst.

It was fine!

We stayed on the Sirenas side from Feb 17-24. The weather was great (about 22-25 all week) the beach was wonderful and only required a 3-4 minute walk across the grounds from the main building. Clean, and plenty of beach chairs and space to lounge all day. The hotel was pretty old, but clean and there was no evidence of any sort of pests/bugs - that's all that's important, right? The Coral side has a bbq grill out at dinner, when we figured that out we stuck to that side for dinners. We tried two of the a la carte restaurants (mexican and cuban) and would recommend just sticking to the buffet. Also, on the Sirena side there is a snack bar near the beach that grills meat etc for lunch, my partner really enjoyed his lunches there. There are areas of the grounds that seem to be shut down/run down, that didn't impact our trip at all, just a sign that the facility is old. With respect to "which side is better", I suppose the lobby/inside of Coral looked better and their poolside area was a bit nicer, but really, you have access to both sides so who cares. I was glad we had the Sirena side because it was a closer walk to the beach. I would recommend this hotel to someone with realistic expectations. If you're just going to relax on the beach and don't need anything fancy, this place will do just fine.

Poor Resort

. Hotel very old, grounds were dirty, buffet was always cold and the same thing everyday, staff unfriendly. All the pictures on the web are from the newer section but it is not where you end up staying. Services were not good, no beach towels, no toilet paper in public washrooms day after day, no coffee cups had to wait in lines just for a cup.

Old and running down

The resort was old and poorly maintained. Doors creaked,the shower,TV and telephone did not work. They weren't fixed even till the last day. The room was not cleaned properly. The food was really mediocre. The beach was beautiful.

Very nice holiday resort

This was my 2nd time staying at this resort. The grounds and beach are wonderful. The people are very friendly and accommodating. The building itself is dated but the rooms are clean and since we only slept in the room it was not an issue. The food is good for Cuba but do not eat the beef as they do not know how to cut it therefore it is super tough even the hotel cats didn't want to eat it

Good place falling apart

Beach, location is good. The buildings are in the state of dilapidation. A piece of concrete fell from the balcony ceiling missing me by 10 sec. Shower hardly worked. Food was diverse enough, though often too salty. Service people were very good.

Awesome resort

The service from the hotel was great from the time I got there the staff from the front desk to the lobby staff. The room service by the maids was great and very friendly and always asked if I needed anything. The cleanest of the whole hotel was great there where people cleaning inside and outside everyday. The staff at the restaurants were awesome they looked after your drinks cleared your plates and the food was fantastic everyday. I look so forward to going back to this hotel again.

Very well manteined and beutiful natural sorroundi

good beautiful spaces public and rooms, well kept and attended food was good and had a variation every day the staff was educated, well mannered, try every moment to help you, had a lot of personality there was plenty activities both sports and cultural

This hotel was disappointment

I am not a picky traveler. I've been many times to Cuba and i do not have very high expectations in terms of service.The reason I keep going back to Cuba are beautiful beaches, nice people and of course you would expect some level of decency from the hotel rated as 3.5 start hotel. Sol Sirenas Coral is rated as 3.5, in reality should be max 2. Hotel buildings are quite run down and they do not provide services they promise. We stayed there 7 days and we were not provided with beach towels. The r [... read more]oom was not very clean and the towels in the room looked so bad that we were not sure if they are stained or maid did not replace them. Lunch and dinner food was same, it literally did not change for 7 days.

Poor experience...

The resort looks great in the pics, but that is not the case when you arrive.... This particular resort is also attached to a 3 star resort which is very poor condition and staff is poor ( Hard to find any English speaking people..) We were booked to stay at the coral.. which is a 4 star, once we arrived at the resort with the bus from the airport, We were sent away with the bus as the resort was closed!!! sending us to the 3 star resort... Very bad management ..... The very next day were we sup [... read more]pose to meet for our Orientation... which the Swingwing Rep was 1.5hr late! and the resort staff sending us walking between both resort three times!!!.... Wont go back to this resort/resorts...

Very Friendly Staff!

This resort was nicer than expected! We were welcomed into a large and beautiful lobby where we were served with some cold refreshments and cold face towels while checking in. A nice treat to make us feel special and welcomed. The staff from the start were very upbeat, friendly, sociable and customer service-orientated. The grounds were very well kept with lots of gardeners and painters keeping the place looking well maintained. The website did not include this detail but they hold a strict policy of pants for men for the evening reserved restaurants. It's an outdated rule and was bypassed by many wearing pajama bottoms which they accepted. A little silly considering the nice dress shorts that are available. The expansive pool was nice and pretty clean considering the number of bathers using it. Could it be cleaner - yes, as it's due for a good scrub down. But, we felt quite comfortable in it. The pool bars were very busy and the bartenders did an amazing job serving everyone with their varied drink orders and a big smile. We primarily booked this resort over similar ones because of the on-resort water-park. It was busy but the wait times were very short. It was a great way to break up the day. The beach had seaweed issues washing up on shore and we were told this is a time of year thing. There was a tractor that did daily cleaning of it but it seemed to be a never ending process. Nonetheless, we spent many hours at the beach. We had a junior suite which was nice to have the extra room. The beds are somewhat hard and seems to be a common complaint amongst reviewers. That would be a recommendation to the resort to upgrade their mattresses. The room was clean and well kept with a balcony. Cleaning staff did a daily sweep of the room, replaced towels, made the beds and left flowers regularly. We were impressed with the timely upkeep of food, drinks and ice. Any time something was empty it was quickly replaced. There's no shortage of getting food on the resort, whether on the beach, by the pool, at the water-park or by the lobby. The pizza and chicken is very good. We had an iPad stolen while we were waiting at the buffet. To our surprise it showed up four days later in the lost and found! Thank you Apple for making them very secure! And thank you very much to the person that returned it. All staff were very friendly! Actually pretty much all Dominicans we met on and off the resort were very friendly.

Great value

Pleasantly surprised. Great value. Good service, rooms and location. Friendly staff, okay food, awesome beach. Wonderful bbq lunch with entertainment. Same sun, water and beach for others who pay more. No surprises. Embraced the difference and had a goodl time.

Great place, Great people

The resort although an older one And going through some changes, I found it to be very clean, fantastic beach. The people are very friendly and go out of their way to make your stay a good experience. Plan on going back again.

Best resort in Cuba

This is my 3rd time at the Sol Serenus side of the hotel and we just love it there. The staff are great, so friendly and helpful. The food was good, not always what we are used to but many choices, no one need go hungry!! Would not go to any other hotel.

Back to Mexico

We were cautioned about Cuba and managing our expectations. Maybe the Melia chain doesn't believe in heating pools? A lot of inexpensive details that we thought were important the hotel obviously did not. The number of these details were significant but the lack of and quality of food was really a deal breaker. The Cuban people are great.

Nice Resort- would stay again

Our family of 4 recently stayed at the Sol Sirenas Coral Resort and all in all we are very satisfied with our experience there. It was our first trip to Cuba and we had read that many resorts are older and a bit 'tired'. This resort fits that description somewhat but it is clean and presents well. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Patricia at the front desk took it upon herself to ensure we were moved/upgraded to a better room that was more suited to our family size. The bartenders, wai [... read more]t and cleaning staff are very personable and friendly. There are really two resorts in one here so there are a lot of dining options. The food in the buffets is decent and includes a wide variety of choices. The themed restaurants (Mexican, Cuban and Italian) were all quite good as well (better overall than the buffet meals we found). The grounds were well maintained and the 24 snack/booze bar and very handy beach bar ensured all needs were met. The vibe is friendly and laid back with a number of organized shows/activity options available as well. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider returning to this resort.

Amazing

All are excellent, rooms, dining, services and very helpful staff for sure I will visit this place again the beach is amazing and the bar services is excellent and no complains from the stuff for as long as you need

Everything you need

Stayed Jan 14, 2015 to Jan 21, 2015. A little disappointed in our first room assignment but was given another room the next day. 1st room was clean and acceptable except it was on the ground floor on the back of the building by the front entrance. 2nd room was on the pool side on the second floor...much better. Staff is very accommodating and helpful. The girl at the swim up bar will be your friend forever if you bring her chocolate for her little baby ;-). Beaches are great; all sandy hard packed bottom for as far as you want to walk out. I snorkelled 300 meters each way and found nothing but sand and a couple little conch shells. Four little gift huts on site will supply any gifts you might want to bring home and one will use a wood burning tool to add a personal touch to your purchase. Again, one of the best beaches we've been to in Cuba and this was our fourth trip to the Island. Rooms were cleaned everyday and the service was great. Besides, don't put too much stalk in any room unless your a shutin and don't plan on going outside. The coffee shop in the main lobby serves good coffee (with milk) and is a good way to start your day. We'd go back!
