Great resort

I was surprise to see the resort in very good condition, the work they did in 5 months after the hurricane Irma was amazing. The food was good, the room dated but very clean, the staff where very friendly. Jorge the air transat rep. was excellent he very helpful when an accident happen to my sister. I will go back because of the staff .

Amazing resort, amazing staff

This resort has been through a lot. It's not the same as it was. But they are getting there! Loved every min of it.. foid wasn't anything too fancy. But just not my style. Can't wait to return in a year or two and see the progress.

Love Cuba

Amazing. Considering the recovery aspect after the devastating hurricane the property was beautiful. Everything was in good working order and the staff were exceptional. We cannot say enough positive comments to the Melia staff, from the Chefs, ladies and gentlemen at the buffet to all the wonderful ground crew that greeted each morning. Thank you once again Cuba and her wonderful people. We would go back in a heartbeat.

Very nice resort

We were pleased with the work that was done after the hurricane. The resort is small and personal, very charming and friendly. We did not have the opportunity to go into the ocean as the weather did not allow, however the beach is wide and easy to walk. The food was the best we have had in Cuba and we enjoyed the beach bar BBQ for 3 lunches as well as the two al a carte restaurants and the buffet. The room balcony was spacious although the sliding door was difficult to move and not a tight fit.

Amazing Staff

A lot of the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, especially the ground keepers, and the bar tenders at the 24hr bar and grill. I wish I would have written all their names down, but those particular staff are what make this resort an amazing place. The standard room I stayed in wasn't anything extraordinary. Our toilet wouldn't fully flush unless we grabbed the shower hose and and used it while flushing(my husband came up with that idea), our fridge was never stocked the same way [... read more] twice ( one day we would get 2 pop and 1 beer, the next would be no beer and 1 pop), and I definitely wouldn't say the rooms were "clean". We had two days with no water at all, 4 days with tepid water, and 1 day with actual hot water. The buffet had lots of assortment, and the food wasn't too bad for the most part. The International a la carte was terrible. The meals were not very pleasant, and the waitress never came back with our dessert. The mediterranean a la carte was much better both food wise and service. Over all, if it were not for the few amazing staff I would not consider going back to this resort!

Best resort in cuba

I loved this place..food was fantastic which you cant always say for cuba. The beach was amazing and the rooms were new and modern. I would go back in a heartbeat. The weather did not cooperate but everything else made up for it

Great Resort

The resort was very clean and kid friendly. The staff was ready to help every step of the way. the food was ok, but thats everywhere in Cuba. Overall our experience with the resort was excellent. I will definitely go back

Awesome resort

Was at this resort from Dec 22 - Dec 29. I have been to this resort many times and was shocked after seeing the pictures of the devastation caused by Irma and was shocked again when I arrived to see all the hard work that the employees and tradesman did and are continuing to do, to get this resort back up and running in just a few short months. The improvements are amazing and the place looks beautiful. Pier looks great and they were just putting the lighting up on the last day of my vacation. Buffet's air conditioning was working great and food was plentiful and delicious. Did not make it to the International but went the Mediterranean for dinner one night and sadly don't have a good review here. It was not good. The steak was so tough that it could not be cut so therefore went to waste. The soup was tasteless and cold. Definitely miss the Italian, they may want to rethink the Mediterranean restaurant and go back to the Italian as I know I never had a bad meal there. Other than that one flaw, my vacation was excellent and would definitely recommend this resort to friends and family.

Great vacation spot!

We stayed at Melia this past August and it was a great vacation. The resort is currently going through upgrades and they really show! Food was great, room was close to the action and the service was great! The beach was beautiful and you could see the ocean from all points of the resort. Would definitely recommend this resort. Great entertainment, activities and an overall 10/10 experience.

Amazing Resort

The hotel was wonderful! Clean and updated. The staff were so friendly and helpful. It was a very relaxing stay and the beach has no words... stunning especially with the walk out on the water. Very picturesque. The resort is seconds to the beach. The upgraded my room the same day and also gave me a bottle of rum. The food was very good. A la carte was wonderful. Overall, I would definitely come back. It was wonderful

Good Resort, lacks management abilities at the front desk !

All in all, it is a good resort. Not big in area, but quite well maintained given the age of it. Pedrol, the young general manager was quick to respond to request for help. However, the reception desk failed to offer the basic support for "elegant members". Therefore, it is not important to pay the extra $30 to join ! Will return for future visits.

Great Resort/Excellent Value

The buffet was very good. Big selection...fruits, vegetables, fish, roasted chicken, beef, ham ,fajitas made to order one evening, grilled lobster and pasta to name just a few. Service was excellent in the dining room. The beach is beautiful. There are sand flees and they do bother me, so we moved onto the pier. The section between the pool and the beach is also very nice and I was not bothered by the sand flees. Beach was not busy. Buy a card 1.5 CUC. Took the double decker bus to Melia Cayo Coco for 5 CUC's each (return) and spent the day. Beautiful resort. We just like to relax, so a perfect place to go.

Another fantastic week at the Melia Cayo Guillermo. Love the people. Love the beach, cold beer and beautiful beach. Was quite surprised at the amount of work that went into expanding​ the beach but wow what ana approvement. Great food as always. Rocky, Barbara, Tommy, Maria at the front desk just to name a few thank​you thank you thank you for helping make my hard earned vacation perfect. If I had a complaint it would be there needs to be more shade things at the beach. See you in the fall.

Another great trip to MCG

As always the MCG did not disappoint, many improvements and painting has been taking place and they are working hard to keep this hotel in good repair. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Can't wait to go back in November to see all our friends again!

Booking with Transat: Firstly, when I booked there was a bonus $75 gift card for some restaurants that was to be sent out after January 22nd. Never received! As for the Distinction and Elegance inclusions , don't waste your money! By the time we could make our a la cartes, we only had time for 2. Wasn't told when the BBQ beach party was and ended up missing it because we had an a la carte that evening. There was no mention of a manager's cocktail party. No bottle of rum in the room, no we [... read more]lcome cocktail, no cool towel upon arriving. The daily stocked mini bar consisted of 2 beers and 1 can of pop; that was when it got stocked, most days it didn't. There was a coffee maker in the room, but it is similar to a tassimo. Out of the week we were there, we received coffee pods 3 times, 2 of those time I had to ask for them. Good thing only one of us drinks coffee as we were usually only given 1 pod. Over all, I'm not likely to spend the extra on Transat's distinction collection. Not worth it. The short about the resort: Nice resort. Clean. Staff is hit and miss. Would go back. The Resort: Check in/front desk: So efficient. They were ready for the guests, had maps, keys, and bracelets ready when guests arrived. Only complaint was that we only received one room key. Bit of a juggling act, would have been nice if we each had one. However, whenever we went to the desk, they were friendly and helpful. Room: Room was nice, but beware, we were on the 3rd floor and there are no elevators. Which was fine for us, but we felt bad for some people making the trek. It's Cuba, not Hawaii. Tv worked, bed was clean, balcony had nice view of gardens, with the Ocean in the distance. The balcony door had a broken screw. We did inform the front desk, but it was never fixed. But that certainly didn't ruin our room. Housekeeping: Was ok. The bed was made daily. However, I had to leave a note for coffee, beer, and sugar one day. After that I gave up. Last time we were in Cuba we looked forward to the different shapes on our bed every day. Seems our made only knew one thing, swan. We did see someone else had swans at their sink. That was never done for us. Mini-fridge: When we arrived there was half a cup of milk in the fridge. After 2 days, I threw it out. Fridge was only stocked (2 beer and 1 pop) sometimes. We would purchase beer from the "store" in the hotel, but if there was already beer in the fridge, they wouldn't stock the fridge. Beach: If you are going for sunrise/set TAKE BUG SPRAY. There are many sand fleas and mosquitoes at those times of day. And they will eat you alive. The sand is a little coarse in spots, contained many broken shells, so just be cautious of where you step. There is also a long peer you can walk out on to, see the pelicans following the fishermen. There are not many palapas, but there is a nice sandy area with lots of palm trees between the beach and resort; it's a nice area to spend a day relaxing (and close to the beach bar). Pool: There is only one, and it was mostly quiet. Usually able to get a spot without issue. As anywhere, if you want prime seating, get up early and stake a spot. Pool was clean, but the lining in the bottom is bubbled and uneven. However, that did not affect our enjoyment of the pool. Restaurants: Firstly, there is a small table by the entrance where you made your a la carte reservations. We attempted to book those 3 times in our first 2 days at the resort, but the person doing the booking was never there (even after waiting at the table like we were told; for 30 minutes). By the time we booked, there was only time for us to do 2 out of the 3 reservations, and we ended up missing the BBQ beach party. Buffet: Food at the buffet was often cold, but there are a number of food stations where you can get freshly made food: omelettes, fried eggs, bacon, ham, a pasta station (so good), kabobs, chicken, pork, and many other items. Staff seem to be hit and miss. There was one particular person we avoided when choosing a seat as he didn't seem to want to be there. The first time we had him, we attempted to get coffee for 20 minutes. He finally came over as we were finishing breakfast. Snack Bar: Located beside the pool. We arrive late at night and, thankfully, they were open. Amazing burgers! The Melia burger includes bacon, cheese, and a fried egg. Again, we found that staff was hit and miss for friendliness and service. Beach Restaurant: Was ok, not much on the menu, but we had the chicken and the fish. They were tasty, cooked through, and hot. Our server seemed impatient and not interested in being there. International a la carte: It's actually located just outside the hotel. It seems to be trying too hard to be something it's not. The food was good, but a little fru fru. Staff was nice. Italian a la carte: Our map said this was open for lunch, but we tried a few times and it was always closed. We did get a dinner reservation here and it was so good. Would have liked to use our 3rd reservation for here also, but there was nothing available by the time we got to make reservations. If you go, order the fried cheese as your appetizer. Husband would have order a dozen of those just for his entrée. Note: Get the VIP from your tour operator for when you leave. 25 convertible pesos each and you get a special line for checking baggage and customs. Then you have a lounge with comfy couches, free sandwiches and drinks. Also, when it's time to board the plane, you get taken out directly to board first. The general area of the Airport was crazy! You are still able to wander upstairs and tour the shops, then go back.

One of the nicest resort in Cuba

Very clean resort the food was excellent for Cuba. Wish they would have told us about the sand fleas on the beach they show up at night till sunrise . The service was very good but they did not have anybody to help with the luggage when we check out we where on the third floor

Everage resort

Not enough shadow Places at the Beach ( Umbrellas) and at the Pool. I had to get up at 6 AM to get a shadow Place. ( Dinning) Fries & Potatos were 90 pro. cold The room was clean, it is an average Resort for Cuba.I have been to Cuba 7 Times.

Better than shovelling snow

While this was a quaint resort it definitely showed its age. There were a number of tripping hazards everywhere; even in the pool. Missing/rotted stones, tiles and boards on the walkways, pool deck and boardwalk/wharf. The lining in the pool was warped, buckled and bubbled. The pool deck was dirty with cig. butts , straws and debris. It was finally swept (not hosed down) on the last day of our 7 day vacay. The decorative pools were dirty, unattractive and looked like they had not seen any car [... read more]e or maintenance in years. Some had dirty stagnant slimy water while others were partially filled with beach sand blown in by the wind. The bar staff at the swim-up pool bar were very inattentive and not very fun/friendly possibly bec. they seemed to be understaffed. Front desk staff were somewhat abrupt and unapproachable particularily at checkout when we tried to pay for a late checkout of one room on our last day. All other resort staff were amazing- true examples of the famous Cuban warmth and hospitablenous they are known for. Loved that the bus ride from airport to resort was a short 30-35 min. ride as advertised in travel books ( not the B S 3 real minutes = 1 vacay minute) Too many other resorts in the tropics to visit than to revisit one that was not a paradise. Beach was OK but was not cleared of large amount of smelling seaweed that was all over the beach. Not enough chairs and shelter on the beach. Excursion to public (Pilar) beach was fabulous. 10 min ride to that beach BUT at 25 pesos a tad expensive. Much cheaper to go by double decker public tour bus (5 pesos) and you can chose your own time table).

In need of some TLC

This resort is in need of TLC & for a Melia it's a let down. They have very few palapa's at the beach or pool. It's very hard to find shade. The resort on either side of this one have lots of palapa's. The pool is a bit deceiving in the photos. I don't believe the waterfall has ran in a while now & the same bartender tends both the busiest lunch pool bar & the swim up bar - it takes a while to get served & that's because they need to have more bartenders. The beach it beautiful & that's the best part and of course the hard working staff. If you're looking for sun & beach then for a responsible price you'd probably be happy with this as your choice. It's a 3 star at the most. One good thing is that you can spend the day at 5 other Melia resorts to check them out. You can get a day pass to anyone of them, the best I feel is the Melia Cayo Coco. You can take the double decker bus from one side of Cayo Coco to the end of Cayo Guillermo. Not too bad a place - however I personally would not return until updated.

Nice resort

It was a nice resort, grounds were clean pool was nice. All the employers were nice to us and it was quiet not to crazy. The deep sea fishing was my favorite part of the whole trip I would do that again. The beaches were clean. It was very windy on the beach but it did keep you cool. My room was alright nothing fancy but it was clean
