Fun times at a so so resort

Loved the staff and adult pool. Food is same everyday with little variety. Some of the evening entertainment was odd....adult baby show??? Wtf? Staff on the family and adult side made our stay fun and welcoming! Thanks for everything. Recommendations: more bathroom checks to make sure they are clean and have toilet paper.

Very tired looking resort

We were at this resort 5 times in the past, although it was 10 years ago, reception area clean, check-in was quick, staff very efficient with what they have to work with. First night the room was dirty, smelly, holes in the wall, you could open the door even if locked. We requested to be changed and they did the next day. Bungalow was fine, bed comfortable but air conditioner did not cool the room and we had set it at 15 degrees, did not help. Fridge even on high did not cool our water or so [... read more]da. Maid service was good, although the linens, towels had seen better days. Pool was fine although there was only one umbrella was shade, so you had to get up quite early to claim it yours. Food at the a la carte restaurant was average, food at the buffet, very limited choice and no change in seven days. The place needs to be renovated. Grounds were ok, although not many flowers. I enjoyed the locals very much. Lolitha in customer service could not do enough for you, even offered to bring her umbrella from home for us to use during the week we were there. She was a gem and I think that she put outs a lot of fires because quite a few people were disappointed with the place.

Very good resort

Everything is at it best. Better than in Florida with 3 times more expensive resorts than this one. Beech is also good.Only for swimming you need to go far way because the shallow area is over 100m.

Amazing Resort

There is nothing to complain about. Everything was perfect.Small quiet resort great for our needs. After a dozen holidays to Cuba we have now found our perfect home away from home.This was our second visit to this resort & hope to return again.We were in the Adults only section this year. Loved it & will request this again next year.

Great Beaches!

The hotel is a little older but the price was very good. It's really all about location, and that can not be beat! My family had a great stay and we were treated well by the resort staff. They went out of their way to make the trip great. The front desk staff were the exception. They didn't seem to care about anyone and were indifferent to any concerns. Mixed Feelings

I have mixed feeling about our stay at Sercotel Club, Cayo Guillermo, Cuba. When I initially booked the trip I upgraded to a "beach bungalow" to facilitate my mobility issues. Upon arrival, we were told that the upgraded location had been changed to the far side of the resort in multi-storey wooden buildings and was an "adults' only" area. The area itself was very picturesque but very far from the main section of the resort for someone with mobility issues. Golf carts were provided by the r [... read more]esort to ferry guests back and forth between the two areas but I had hoped to be "in the thick of things" so to speak to get the "vacation vibe". My mobility issues are not such that I couldn't have walked around had we been located in the main area of the resort (stairs are more the issue) and so I felt somewhat isolated where we were and wasn't keen on continual running back and forth between the two areas. When we were taken to our room we noticed a very strong sewage odour which was not pleasant to say the least. I called the front desk and was told "en la noche, Señora, will be ok"....I took this to mean it would be fixed by the evening but this was not the case. It did diminish after sunset each night but there was always a slight but pervasive smell of sewage in our location. One family told us they had changed rooms three times in an attempt to escape it with limited success. The food was fine and plentiful but uninspired and very repetitious....bearing in mind I have never been to Cuba before, I understand this is to be expected. Many reviews mention not having water in the rooms "as expected". Never having been to Cuba, I didn't have any expectations in this regard and yes, there was no water in our room on arrival nor was it brought daily.....however, it was a very simple matter to go to the customer-service area and pick some up....both of us use CPAPs and they understood and provided us with extra bottles when needed. Unfortunately, the weather did not co-operate which is no reflection on the resort, just unfortunate for us. The area was hit by 80K winds and torrential rain on our third day and, although the rain eventually stopped, the wind remained quite strong till the second to last day of our ten-day trip and made sitting at the beach difficult due to the blowing sand. The area is very popular with the "kite-surfing" folk but, unfortunately, it appears they either do not have a designated area or do not stick to it.....snorkelling was too dangerous to undertake due to them flying all over the surface of the water. Mosquitoes or "no see ums" were horrific....I took inspect repellent but we were both "eaten alive" as the saying goes....three days home and I am still covered in bites and itching terribly. I am not sure if the heavy rainfall may have had something to do with that or not and only saw them fogging once during our ten days. Drinks weren't the greatest...I'd ask for something indicated on their drink list and be told "we don't make that"....on several occasions I ordered a drink and would be presented with something that I had absolutely no idea what it was, example a Tequila Sunrise was a glass full of almost totally grenadine and, of course, undrinkable. The staff.....now this is a totally different story.....they were exemplary. Courteous and friendly....I speak a little Spanish and even the grounds crew would stop for a little chat each day. Restaurant and wait staff, grounds crew, etc.....they were all awesome !! Perhaps, never having been to Cuba, my expectations were too high !!

FEB 24/17 SUN & FUN!

I came for the great atmosphere, beautiful beaches, hot sun and daiquiris - this resort has all of this with great hospitality. I was with a group of ten friends and family. The weather was beautiful and hot. We enjoyed watching the kite surfers from the beach. Cappuccino at Sunrise in the hut over the water. Our room was quaint, spacious and clean - cottage style - located behind the pool area which was nice and close to all the amenities. I am vegetarian and thought the buffet was great. Omel [... read more]et bar, french toast, beans, lentils, salads, pasta, pizza, meat and seafood. Most delicious bread and cheese. Cold beer and (strong!) drinks all day. There were lots of people, and yet we always had enough chairs poolside and at the beach. Lots of Canadians. A nightly show with quality dancers. Wonderful staff. Gardener friendly and worked hard to keep the grounds looking lovely. I played volleyball in the pool, went for a horseback ride, read a book in a tropical breeze. Watched a soccer game on the beach with staff and guests. So much fun! Don't sweat the small stuff. Sometimes things need fixing. The water pressure might be low, or whatever. You will be looked after in time, so get a drink, sit poolside and relax! Show your appreciation with a tip now and again. Be a good guest and bring the party with you!!

Sercotel Club Cayo Guillermo

We had the pleasure of visiting this resort from Feb. 7 - 17. This was strictly an R&R vacation for us and truly, we didn't do a whole lot but spent most of our time at the hotel soaking in all it had to offer. Our arrival and check in was very quick and we decided to upgrade to the Adults Only section at that time. We were right on the beach and the view from our patio was spectacular. We were steps to the amazing beach and there were plenty of chairs and no chair saving which was very nice to see. The beach ! Wow it is amazing. You can walk a great distance - to the marina or to the other resorts in the area. Unfortunately, the palapalas didn't provide much shade so we spent most of our time at the pool area. The sun was in full force everyday and we couldn't have wished for or asked for better weather. There was a beach bar in the area which was a very nice touch for those who spent the day here. The pool area was a great spot to sit & read and enjoy the coolness of the water. Since it was adults only, there were no children which we really enjoyed. Of course, people did try to use the Jacuzzi and pool but were redirected quickly. It is a problem in that security does not patrol the area for people who are not part of the upgrade so it was up to guests to report them. The signage is not clear and they need to put out signs with the different coloured bands to make it clearer. Signs should be posted in visible areas - less writing and more colourful to catch the eye. A few people just didn't get it and argued with security - you don't pay you don't play - simple as that. The food. Oh my! We always have lower expectations for meals in Cuba but we have never had better. The meals were extremely delicious and there wasn't anything that was bland or awful. They served up turkey, beef, pork and fish dishes. No mystery meats here. The chef really needs to be commended in his cuisine. Everything was well prepared and well cooked. We definitely put on a few pounds at this resort. Of course, we had a few little hiccups along the way but staff took care of our issues and were resolved quickly. The staff from the bartenders to the front desk were wonderful, kind & always a ready smile. The one slight that we noticed at the adult section was the manager. I think the managers name was Ramon (not entirely sure) and he was there with his wife - from Spain I believe. We only saw them during mealtime and noticed he was never around in-between. He didn't seem to be interested in the guests - not a smile, not a hello...nothing. He was actually quite intimidating and people wondered who they were. We found that very strange as most managers take the time to chat with guests and take an interest in them. Not this one. We (and others) were very disturbed that they had fresh meals specially prepared for them. This lead many of us to wonder why the regular food from the buffet wasn't good enough for them but served to the guests. Very strange. The complete opposite from staff at the main lobby area - Eddwin (? manager at the main lobby) always stopped us & asked if everything was ok...what a difference between the two. All in all, we cannot find fault in this resort. Our vacation was wonderful and we couldn't have been happier with all it had to offer. We would return and will definitely recommend it to our friends. The staff at the main lobby front desk as well as the adults only desk area were extremely helpful and made us feel so welcome - if there was anything we needed they were on it without hesitation. That also applies to the wait staff - our glasses never were empty and dirty plates didn't sit for long on our table. Amazing relaxing

I have been here 6 times I love this place it is a family friendly place friendly staff and a quiet resort which I like the food is good and the rooms are comfortable the beach is great there was improvement made it is huge

Friendly and cozy resort

We had a great stay at Sercotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Always ready to cater to our every need. It is a smaller resort but there was always plenty of food and the atmosphere was more welcoming than overwhelming. The grounds were kept clean and beautiful. It was truly a paradise get a way. We will definitely go back.

Not a clue

we didn't stay at this resort.It was hit by a hurricane earlier this year and wasn't fully operational,so we switched to melia jardine del rey.blah blah blah blah blah blah using up characters.still more neededokokokokokokokokokokokokokok

Sercotel - sub par

Upon arrival Dec 22, toilets did not work in both rooms and after three requests to fix them, we were moved to other rooms. Then we experienced a flood from toilet in new room. The beach has been made way too wide now to enjoy the sound of the sea. Only one restaurant open. Only two bars and lobby bar is too small and has a line up at most times and too much bright lighting. No atmosphere. No internet cards available to guests for last four days of stay. Reception not very helpful. Only bright l [... read more]ight was customer service person, Lolita, who was a gem. Not much to do at this hotel. A couple of highlights - Christmas Eve dinner consisting of spit roasted turkey and I must say the best smoked salmon I've ever had. And the massage with Maria was very good. Other than that, I couldn't wait to get out of there as I my sister lost her iPad in the lobby bar and it was never returned - again, reception was no help - and I developed strep throat and had to wait until I returned to Toronto for treatment. Eight nights was too many. Will not travel again over Christmas as its way too overpriced, windy and the water cold both at beach and pool. One note: The people that work the hardest and are so underrated are the lobby cleaners and the gardeners. They are the ones who deserve your tips first.

Great little resort.

We just returned from a week at sercotel , Dec 2016. Overall We thought the resort was great , the housekeepers did an amazing job of keeping our room clean and making something awesome out of the bedding etc .. My little girl loved going back to the room every day to see their creations. The beach is amazing , beautiful white sand and turquoise water. The only downfall I would say about this location is that the wind is relentless !! Amazing if your a kiteserfer (they were quite fun to watch ) but way way too windy for us.

Good Value

Our check-in was horrible not very informative we just got our keys and were brought to our room. We were not told anything about the resort. The room was amazing, we stayed in a wooden bungalow. The food was okay, but the buffet did not have much selection. A La Cartes were good. The beach was beautiful, but the resort was very quiet while we were there, there was not many other tourists which we found odd, it was almost like a ghost town walking through the resort. The overall service at the h [... read more]otel was poor. You are also only given 1 bottle of water for the week. This resort it very secluded so there are not malls or shops near by, not great for people who like to leave the resort.

Average

The hotel was ok however we would not go back. Not a great place to bring your family. Beach is beautiful, but the sand is firm. Food is bearable. Keep in mind locals love to butt in line whether you're at the bar or at the restaurant waiting at the grill station. Staff are very friendly and rooms were clean. The weather was super windy and could get chilly at times. Great for kite surfers.

Excellent resort

I am glad that I choose this hotel. I wanted to spend time close to the ocean and have a quiet vacation in a quiet place among nature. Although the first two days weren't that quiet because I was sent to a room in front of the swimming pool and of the animation area with loud music day and night, after I asked them, they moved us to a quiet room in front of the ocean which was far from the noise, very quiet and with an amazing view. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and very well maintained, the beaches are not crowded as in other hotels and with chairs and shade under palm threes always available. The two rooms that we stayed in were very clean. Most of the people who work there are very warm, kind, respectful and willing to help with anything that we need. Even though we are mostly vegetarian, we always found in the buffets things that we like it and I specially enjoyed a lot the fresh tropical fruits and my daughter enjoy a lot the cheeses and the yogurt. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. I think offers the essential to spend a great vacation. I see a lot of families and children having a lot of fun. My only recommendation is if you want a quiet room, don't choose a room close to main area, but if being exposed to noise and music the whole day, is your ideal vacation, as another family that we met there, then choose a room close to it.

Good for your buck

Resort is under renovation and I'm sure it will get better in due time. Beach is awesome. Food is surprisingly good. We had an Oceanview Bungalow which is about 10m from the beach..it was great! Downside is, the bed and pillows are so uncomfortable. Beach is beautiful. Kite surfers entertained us in the afternoon. We didn't get our beach towels until the 3rd day coz they didn't have clean ones. Majority of the workers are very friendly, esp. There was an old Gardiner who greats you daily and very friendly (didn't get his name). We rented an ATV and a car on 2 separate occasions just to get out of the resort/island, as the island is strictly resorts. Playa Pilar is a must see! By far one of the best beach. We went 3x!

Another great time

This resort is quaint and beautiful. I love it here to just get away from the rat race and recharge. Good is adequate. You won't starve. Bungalows on the beach are fantastic. Took my adult kids, did the swim with the dolphins. Amazing!

Good resort

If you're looking for a small, cozy resort then this would be a good place to visit. Grounds and rooms could use some love as they are showing there age however the staff was very friendly. If you are a person who would rather sit on the beach rather than by the pool then this might not be the resort for you as with the tide change, there were numerous hours where the beach was no existent. However, because of the size of the resort it did provide a very cozy feel and allowed for great interactions with other guests.

Perfect family holiday!

have travelled globally and extensively for over 30 years. If you embrace a culture and its traditions and people for what they are (not what you expect), this is a truly wonderful experience! The staff was amazing and so kind to the grandchildren. Great choices, hot and fresh! Our accommodations were superb . Imagine our delight when we arrived to 2 connected ocean-front villa rooms-- 2 huge clean bedrooms, 2 t.v.s, and 2 bathrooms! Beds were exceedingly comfortable and the pillows were lovely. The washrooms had no problems, air-conditioning was excellent and quiet, t.v. had just enough choices in several languages but not so many that the kids wanted to stay inside. the cleaning staff was superb. And, of course, to see the sunrise over the ocean was superb! Nighttime shows were very professional. Yes, sometimes the hotel ran out of a particular thing .. rum, coke, wine or mint but it was always available in a day. Folks, you're on holidays!! Kick back and try something new! All in all, simply a wonderful holiday! Thanks to all! I guess bottom-line, I have to say, $ for $, this was one of the best holidays I have ever experienced. TripCentral did an amazing job of booking us at an amazing price.This is not a resort to go to (nor is Cuba the place) if you are rigid, demanding or only willing to eat/drink/do what you do at home!
