Amazing island and beautiful resort

Considering the hurricane damage that was done to this resort and island we cannot believe how well and how quickly they have rebuilt. Each day we were there we saw and felt the improvements. We would highly recommend this resort and destination!! Our room was great, the dining and food was excellent!

Great Holiday

The renovations to the rooms are wonderful. The food is great and there are a variety of choices to get different options. Once all the renovations are complete it should be close to perfect(elevators still to finish, some toilet issues, towel shortages).

Good trip

We stayed for a week and it turned out to be a good trip. Hotel is beautiful but obviously still under construction. Service was alright at times but usually you were waiting for about 30 minutes for a drink at the bar and most of the time the server was rude. Some were great and very happy to help. Food wasn’t bad but could improve. Not a whole lot of selection at buffet, not enough fruit and not enough food for young kids. Pool was great and beach was amazing!! Overall it was a great trip and I’d go back once it’s finished completely.

Sonesta Maho, St-Maarten

Pros - New hotel Cons - Under construction, could have a 2nd pool, food was good but we expected higher end cuisine with the service to match. Summary - In general we were satisfied because of the great price we paid for the trip, St-Maarten has become our favourite destination because of the good food, filtered water that we can count on, the weather, the beaches and the Caribbean Sea. Ok still lots of work to get done !!

Hotel is newly renovated rooms are nice took 3 days to get our air conditioner working and another 3 days to get our shower to stop flooding over from the drain being clogged staff are the restaurant were slow need to ask multiple times for water /cutlery the bars need more bartenders!! The pool needs a good cleaning the coping around the pool is gross and ever day the film on the pool was hanging out in the corner s over all trip was ok still lots of work needs to be done hoping to visit again  [... read more]once they are fully functional

Rebuild is coming along

My husband and I were married at the Sonesta Maho 5 years ago. And it was amazing then. So it would be hard to compare. Overall this vacation was good. There are still small problems they need to resolve which is to be expected. The only hiccup we found was a bit of an ant problem in our room, which unfortunately took a little longer then it should have to be resolved. But ultimately it was resolved after a few phone calls and 3 hours. In a few months this resort will be up to its potential. Glad to see they are getting back to normal.

Great Mid Tier Resort

Sonesta Maho Beach Resort is an great mid-tier resort, for those who are looking for the luxury resort feel with butler service, room service, bathrobes, slippers, turn down service this is not the resort for you, that is offered at the Ocean Point Adulst Only Selection. The resort was reopend to Guest that fly book with Sunwing as the Tour Opeartor in Mid March. We stayed from April 25 - May 2. Currently as Sonesta Maho is in the final stages of completing the top floor rooms and the gard [... read more]en side balconies along with a few other back end areas, lobby cafe and new lobby bar (there is a lobby bar on site). They are opening the 3rd elevator for guests and will be opening the staff elevator soon. The resort is on the smaller side and no wait service on the beach and limited at the pool, but none of the bars are that far away so staying hydrated is not an issue. Rooms are spacious and everthing is brand new as was rebuilt due to being hit by a hurricaine in 2017. Dining - They have closing days/alterante days for Jings and Ascot pub and when the Beach BBQ is on the Buffet at Ocean Terrace and Plams Grill is closed. The Napoli pizza bar located on the Ocean Terrace Outside dining is still open during the BBQ as well as the Point, Jings or Ascot Pub. This is supposed to change once they have fully opened all rooms and common areas. Beach was amazing and water was the picture perfect turquoise that we always see on TV. The resort beach is connected to the public beach that is at the start of the airport runway so you can see all the planes land and take off. After awhile you do not notice the planes anymore coming and going. This resort will only get better everyday as we could see it with the additional beach and pool chairs arriving when we there. New Furniture for the Lobby Lounge areas. Staff was courteous and pleasant and if you needed assistance were able to help solve any issues you may have had with the resources they had available. Only negatives I have is that their should be a 24 hour Restaurant open for drinks and food as there are times in the late afternoon when everything is closed for food. I am hoping that does change when they are fully opeartional. I would go back again if the price is right. Tripcentral.ca start working on a new deal to send us back!

Breathtaking views

Overall, the resort was amazing! For the most part the staff were friendly and accommodating even though the speed of the service at the bars were fairly slow. With regards to cleanliness I have no complaints. The food overall was fantastic even though the selection was limited. The pizza was amazing!!! Getting a seat by the pool was a challenge at times; however, we had a large group and really only needed a couple of chairs because we were in the pool most of the time. I look forward to hopefully being able to return in the future. Overall, a unforgettable experience!!!!

Room for improvement

Our stay at the Sonesta Maho Resort was not 100% satisfactory. Although this resort is brand new, construction and work noise is still being done at the resort from 7:00am - 9:00pm which is not a problem if your not in your room. The walls are paper thin, we could hear the conversations from the room next to us. Not all lights in our room were in working order. The room overall was very nice. Loved the shower! Not sure how this was possible unless your staff but someone had opened our doo [... read more]r one night around 1:30am while we were sleeping only to have had it stopped by the chain we had put on it? The pool bar and beach bar staff need to be trained to acknowledge vacationers that have been waiting for drinks first before accommodating only the ones that yell out or wave money in order to be served before others that have already been waiting for awhile to be served. The wait time was ridiculous several times because of this to the point where you felt invisible! The kiosk to book restaurant reservations is a joke. We had booked a reservation at Jings one night to find out it was closed, so therefore went to to Ascots. The food there was terrible. Another night we had booked the Ocean Point. We had called the front desk to find out the dress code. The front desk had told us it was closed due to a wedding, we decided to go anyways to find out that we did have reservations and no wedding? The staff really have no clue what’s going on! Our meal at the point was very good. No complaints on the food at the buffet either. Elevator very slow and only one working the day of our departure. I’d give this resort another year before it’s truly a 4 star

Will be a great place

Hotel isn't completely done yet. Part of 7th floor and all above floors were being worked on 4-11 Apr. Workers go until 9pm so be prepared for noise until then. Staff for the most part were really good. Food was above average and will probably get better.

5 Star Resort!!!

We have stayed at the Sonesta Maho before in 2014, we heard about the devastation that happened recently by the hurricane and how the resort is reopening fully renovated and what an amazing job they have done! the rooms are super hi-end and modern more like a 6 star!, yes work is still been done on the resort but you barley hear it, the staff is amazing trying to please everybody threw this process. WE will be back next year! ..2 thumbs up for the staff and management!

Terrible experience

This hotel was not completed when we arrived. From the food to the rooms they were extremely disappointing. The hotel was not safe for guests and they often didn't have enough food for everyone I am do disappointed that Sunwing would ever have approved this hotel and I'm very confused by this decision.

Will be great...but need improvement

I loved the area but hotel itself wasn't ready to open. The room, the ground, the beach were beautiful, but the food was very limited and cold and they were still building the hotel so half finished it was disappointing but im sure it will very nice in few months once they are done building it.

Sonesta maho beach

The hotel itself is old and has the musty smell. When we got there they gave us the wrong room as it only had one bed than they changed us to another one which they told me it had 2 double beds but it didn't it had a king and a cot. For what I paid I was very disappointed. The hotel was under construction which I knew nothing of so that started early in the morning. I didn't find the front desk people very friendly or helpful but the workers at the restaurants were very nice. The Italian restau [... read more]rant and the Lava Rock had great food would recommend people to go there. The buffet was like any other resort and it was fine. The nightly entertainment was nothing to brag about, the only good night was the young group of drummers and the dancers. The one good thing is our room was large and clean which is the one thing I want when I go away. Only two bars and you had to come up from the beach to get a drink there was no beach bar which surprised me. Personally I would not go back to the resort even when the renovations are done as the planes flying over were a pain and plus you can smell the fuel every time they came. The weather was amazing and I did enjoy my trip just wished I picked a different resort.

Great Resort

Lovely hotel with newly renovated rooms, and close to airport. Great to watch planes coming in over the beach. The entire resort staff is super-friendly and very helpful. Might suggest putting "Reserved" signs on restaurant tables once seated to ensure that no one else steals your table.

Feel robbed-Cheated, was hungry all the time-staff are rude

I have never made a review for any of the vacations I have been to, but this one is absolutely necessary! THIS PLACE IS AWFUL! the service is BAD, the staff are RUDE, the food and drink are VERY LIMITED!. we feel they stole our money, we had to go and eat outside the resort most of the time.

Great resort

Very nice place just 2 mins away from the airport. Great service. It's really friendly island. With 2 dollars per person you can get on the bus in front of the bus to go anywhere. Me and my family loved this place.

Big Mess

Booked this resort for our second trip and upgraded to the premium ocean view room. We arrived to the hotel at 2:30 and our room wasn't ready they gave up our cards and wrist bands and said we should go to the front desk at 3pm. At 3pm we went to the front desk.... we waited in a long line of people for 50 mins! 50! Check in was EXTREMELY disorganized didn't make sense considering all we needed was to get our room number. Finally get to the front and find out we were booked in for the partial po [... read more]ol/ocean view room. We paid $250 way before our trip to upgrade our room to premier ocean view. The hotel of course did not have any of those rooms available. We were told we'd have to stay in the partial room for the first night and come see the manager the next day. Go to the desk at 11am the next day told to come back at 2pm as the manager was busy. Come back at 2pm still no manager. Finally talk to the front desk supervisor who was fantastic and set up a transfer to mahos sister hotel: The Ocean Point right next store. An adults only resort with 5 stars. Now this resort was FABULOUS! The staff are much nicer and we were treated like royalty the entire time! It was lucky they had a room available for us or our trip may not have turned out so great. Not sure who's fault this "mix up" was with the room we booked.. trip centrals or the hotels but I am extremely hesitant to book through trip central or at the maho again!

Best Value!

We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation at Sonesta Maho Beach. Food and drinks were exceptional, great excursions, great service, airplanes were amazing to watch and the view was incredible. My only criticism would be they need to fill in the deep end of the pool to make the whole pool 5 Ft and move the volleyball net away from the bar.

Really Great Resort

Had an excellent week at the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort. The room was comfortable and the food was excellent. Ramone and Doris took care of us at the pool. The pool chairs could be much more comfortable as they have bars that dig into your back. Service at all of the a al carte restaurants was great but the buffet service left a lot to be desired.
