Great Resort

Lovely resort - very clean and gardens well maintained. The food was fantastic, especially the Japanese. Staff were friendly and very accommodating. The beach is rather rocky, but excellent snorkeling right off the shore.

Fantastic Resort!

It was our first time to Mexico and this resort. The grounds and rooms were immaculate, the food was fantastic, the bartenders at the Tequila Bar were awesome! The bartenders at the Chill Out bar were pouring our drinks when they seen us coming! The drinks kept coming, and thats without a big tip. All of the staff were friendly, especially Esmeralda at the Reception Desk, she was VERY friendly and answered any questions we had without making us feel like we were bothering her. Any resort I have  [... read more]ever been to (and I've visited quite a few.....Cuba, Dominican, etc.) , front desk staff were never very friendly and barely smiled. The pools were always nice and clean but the beach wasnt very swimmable (only a minor thing, it was still beautiful!) Only downside I could say there really was, is that you can not buy a bottle of rum or anything from the gift shop to keep in your room to drink. We were provided with a pint size bottle of Tequila in our room (We stayed in Room 7023, Privileged), but that didnt last long. Haha. We had a photo session with a photographer on the resort and he was fantastic, and the pictures we purchased, we were beyond pleased. We had a very relaxing vacation (we stayed from April 26- May 3/2015) which is what we went for. Kudos to the staff for making it a great one! Thank you.

Awesome resort!

Super clean, staff all amazing,kind and very professional. Rooms were nice and clean. Pools excellent. Food excellent. A la cartes were amazing. Only down side was the beach, too rocky to swim in :( but if you upgrade you have access to the other side of the beach which is beautiful and you can swim. another tip- xcaret excursion was a waste of money- very disappointing will never do it again. Very nice resort

The resort itself was beautiful and very clean. I loved the fact their was 2 buffets and tons of food to choose from. The food was amazing something for everyone and always fresh. The room was clean and air conditioning worked great and the maid was very through in cleaning. This resort does have a beach which we didnt use due to tremendous amount of seaweed. There was a little lagoon that connected the beach which didnt have much seaweed so we really enjoyed that and all the tropical fish that [... read more] came into the lagoon. The resort itself is a gated community so we would leave the resort often and felt very safe. We did a few activities went to the ruins and denotes which was amazing! Overall I would recommend this resort to families or anyone wanting to relax. They did have tons of activities by the pool each day and really worked hard at keeping guests entertained.

Catalonia Yucatan - well worth it

Customer service, food + bars all A+ The beach had lots of washed up seaweed, but the groundskeepers worked diligently to clean this up. Having been to this resort previously we knew what to expect, however, this trip surpassed our expectations. We are looking forward to returning to the Catalonia!

Very good resort

On the whole is very good , but it divide a lot of different category. Very confusing. The beach had lots of sea weed, so much one can't swim there. First day , safety box was not working. I have my value there and can't open it. Reception desk said the guy will come to fix it in 10 min. I was waiting in my room for more than an hour. Because of waiting I miss My breakfast.

3.5 - 4 star resort

The Catalonia Yucatan Resort itself is a beautiful resort, but there are a lot of things that can be done to make your stay a good one to remember! Overall, this resort is not so huge so access to all the pools, bars and the beach is very easy. There are a number of pools both for the ones that want to relax or the ones that want to enjoy water activities with the resort animation team during the day. The food was very good overall at the buffet, as well as the steak house and the tapas a la carte. The standard rooms are very average and nothing luxurious (rusty bathroom doors) and is just good enough for all the necessities one needs for their stay. Although there is a disco running at nights, the nightlife is more relaxed at the resort. The main disappointing part for our stay was that some of the staff at the resort were rude and that was evident right off the bat on our arrival. Upon our arrival, our name was not in the system so the gentleman at the desk told us to wait while they tried to find our name. He then left shortly as his shift was done, and a young unprofessional girl (Carolina) was in charge to deal with the situation. Carolina constantly spoke in Spanish while trying to solve the problem with our Air Transat agent (who was very helpful), and when we asked her to explain the situation in English, her response was "We are in Mexico Sir"! Anyways, it took us 2 hours at the front desk to finally get a room with its balcony under renovation, which we then had to move again to another room the next day as the hotel was overbooked upon our arrival. At another incident, the staff would simply not serve us ice cream on a patio on a hot day for not having a shirt on with absolutely no one around. Are you serious??? I can't enjoy an ice cream by the beach, on a hot day, with nobody around, for 10 minutes, because I'm not wearing a t-shirt??? Give me a break, that's why I'm there in the first place!!! Overall, the resort is beautiful, food is very nice, rooms are average, beach is sandy/rocky, pools are nice to hang out by, but the staff should be better trained to deal with tourists in a much better way. Comparing this trip to my previous destinations in Punta Cana, Varadero, and other resorts in Cancun, there are definitely other options to spend your money on!

Wonderful Vacation Spot

The rooms exceeded expectations. The staff were friendly, welcoming & accomodating. The resort was immaculate, excellent food & restaurants. The Beach BBQ organized for the Air Transit/NoliTours guests was a great last evening. It was great to be able to take a walk out of the resort to the neighbouring marina, shop, have a drink or meal and watch the dolphins. But the buffets provided something for everybody so we never missed a meal. Lobster is not on the menu, but just ask for it for additional cost and you will be happy that you did.

Good value!

This was a "last minute vacation" decision and we selected the Catalonia Yucatan Resort and Spa as our destination. We did not do this arbitrarily but through our own selection process with price point being one of the main criteria, we assessed approximately 8 other destinations, the majority in Mexico as we had not visited there previously. We vetted our selection through a Trip Central representative in Hamilton and she supported our decision having been in the Mayan Riviera just a few months [... read more] prior and followed up with some recommendations for our trip. We were not disappointed, the Catalonia is a medium sized, nicely designed resort. We had a standard garden view room, which was fine. Our room was clean and the minor difficulty with the in room refrigerator was addressed by the maintenance staff about 20 minutes after we contacted the front desk. We visited 3 of the 4 a la carte restaurants and the dining experience in each case was great. Our favorite was the Japanese restaurant. There are many activities on the resort to keep guests engaged and entertained including pool side activities like aqua fit and salsa, as well as live theatre and night beach parties. In addition, we did two off site tours and some shopping in Playa del Carmen, all quite enjoyable. The only minor drawback is the immediate beach area, the rocky bottom which makes it uncomfortable for wading. Water slippers make it easier on the feet. There are other areas on the grounds where one can still wade, swim and snorkel that are not as hard on the feet. The staff was attentive and helpful throughout our trip. All in all, an enjoyable and memorable time for a reasonable price.

Nice budget Resort

This is a well established Resort with lovely, mature grounds. The rooms are spacious and well organized into blocks. There are many options for enjoying the sun and Sea, however if you prefer pools there are several and all well located. Dining choices are good and the staff are excellent!

Excellent All-Inclusive Resort

We stayed for 7 nights recently at the Catalonia Yucatan in the Riviera Maya.We would return to this resort in a heartbeat - excellent food; service and atmosphere. We never waited in line for anything and were served with smiles and respect. The buffet was great and the Japanese restaurant was excellent. The terrace restaurant was also fab and so was the Mexican restaurant...it was all very yummy. The only downfall was the wi-fi strength and reliability. One thing that did bother me a bit was the sales pitch guy for what I understood to be was buying into time-shares -- very pushy but we just said not interested thank you. The beach was great - a bit sea-weedy but not too bad - they tried there best to keep it maintained.

Great service, resort needs updating.

I enjoyed my stay. The staff was awesome. Unless you pay $500 extra to update to superior, the rooms are old, marked up and the beds are rock hard. Superior rooms were lovely. The beds were comfortable. The beach was great for snorkelling ; much of it was covered in coral and the sand was gritty. If you like a long beach walk, it won't happen here which is really too bad. There was a great surf. The local area; Puerto Adventuras was lovely, and gave visitors a nice place to walk , shop and see  [... read more]Dolphins, seals and manatees. The area was super safe. The Chill Lounge, accessible only to upgraded clients was a wonderful spot to enjoy evening drinks while feeling the warm breeze and listening to the surf. The food was ok. The El Mercator buffet had nice decor. Pools were great. Lots of kayaks and good spot for laying for all levels. Overall, barely a four star resort.

Great Resort!!

The resort grounds were beautiful, as was our room. The other 3 couples travelling with us loved their rooms as well. The food and restaurants were very good and better than most others we've been to. Swimming pools were fantastic. The only negative with this resort is the lack of a proper beach, but we knew that before we went, so not going to complain. The staff did their best to accommodate a full house!

Great Resort

Very nice hotel. Food was decent. Very clean. The employees work very hard and are friendly. Must pick your lounge chairs for the day very early as people claim them as early as 5 am. The only negative is the beach. Not much of one.

Great family resort

Fun in the sun!

If you are looking for a stay and play week of fun, sun, food, booze, and meeting interesting people, look no further. The Catalonia excels at customer satisfaction. Gorgeous grounds, perfect weather, a destination I would look forward to returning to and recommending.

OH WHAT A WEEK !

it was our first trip to Mexico and it will definitely not be the last. The area was really beautiful and the resort was terrific value for the money. We were in a gated community that included other resorts, condos and private homes as well as a marina, small village and dolphins and sea lions. Our room was updated to a wonderful poolside view. The rooms were a little dated but spotless and to us that makes all the difference. The weather was good, one afternoon of rain. Family fun

Had a great week. Wonderful food. Lagoon area perfect for kids. Lots of pools. Great time. The beginning of the week it was a bit cool, but by the end of the week it was glorious. We walked to the dolphin marina and it was a nice short trip for the kids. We preferred the smaller yucatan side as opposed to the mayan side of the shared resort (we switched rooms).

Very good

This resort has very nice grounds and very nice staff. The food was great in any of the restaurants there. The animation team are second to none. The beer is carrona wich was nice. There is however two things that we did not like. First the beach is ok for beach chairs but do bring water shoes or do not go in the ocean because there is too many rocks. The second however is worst while i was sitting at the pool bar, I noticed that the bartender took a bottle of tequila that was half empty and fil [... read more]led it with tap water then continued to use that for the drinks. We usually drink beer but two days before my wife did drink a "Malibu" and the next two days were spent in our room because she had intestinal problems. This made her lose her fishing trip. I went fishing anyway . The bartender was very busy and maybe he ran out of tequila but there is no excuse for what he did.

Mayan retreat

it was a very nice resort, people were fantastic. rooms good. my only complaint was that a la carte restaurant did not prebook so waiting in line was long. but once in the food was very good. prebooking would save the guests a lot of time.
