Perfect for my taste and preferences

Lovely grounds, easy and convenient to get around entire resort. All eating places/bars terrific with food/drinks being first class! Specialty restaurants outstanding and liked not having to make reservations. Staff highly attentive!! Best I have been to in Mexico.

Great Vacation

I vacationed with my partner May 21-28 and had a great time at this resort. The resort is small which is to my liking. Grounds are immaculate with staff constantly cleaning and making sure things are perfect. The rooms are spacious and clean. The staff bend over backwards to satisfy all your needs and wants as an example we didn't like our room originally given to us and when we requested another, no fuss, no muss was given another. Fun resort with great staff

This is a smaller resort which is great....beach and pool 100 yards away; all dining facilities 100 yards away. The grounds are drop dead beautiful. Food is good (not excellent but good)....but be warned, the recreation staff are dedicated to having a good time. Great foam parties on Sunday afternoons, lots of activities and friendly bar staff. If you are looking for a quiet time, you can probably have it at Ocean, but it is more inclined to the people who like to kick back a little and have som [... read more]e fun. Wonderful time!

My husband and I just returned from a week's stay, we had a wonderful week. The food and staff are amazing. This was our first stay at an 18+ it was a nice change. The rooms were kept clean and the bed was comfortable. The pillows could have been better, but since there were six on the king size bed we made it work. Also the chair and love seat were quite worn out. But the only time we spent in the room was to shower and sleep so we never had to use them. The entertainment in the evenings were [... read more] good. We really enjoyed dancing on the DJ night. The seaweed has affected all of the beaches in the Caribbean this year. It supposedly happens about every 10 years, something about the ocean cleansing itself. It's amazing how hard they work to clean up the beaches. The ocean appeared to be getting better with each day we were there, I'm sure by next year it will be back to its beautiful self. We took a 15 minute walk and swam in the lagoon, it was crystal clear and beautiful. Thanks for a wonderful stay OMR!

Over The Top

From the moment we pulled into the drop area of the resort ,l felt welcomed and was glad to see the bright clean open area of the main building.We have absolutely nothing bad to say about the Ocean Maya.The food and staff not just at the restaurant but through out the whole resort had a wonderful and genuine happy personality.We enjoyed all the the places to dine at the resort and probably for us the Italian restaurant on the water with the cool evening breeze was our favourite.The activities du [... read more]ring the day where always filled with laughs and a great staff .The room was spotless and the housekeeping done well.The beds where very comfortable and thats one thing for me that is a must.The washroom large and clean and always prepared by staff. If you wanted a quieter area it was easy to find not far from the large pool and at the ocean front.The entertainment was fabulous and a after dinner piano player in the main building was nice while the evening breeze blew threw the main lobby.We danced in the evening to the local sounds of a band preforming in the main court yard under the stars.With so much to do at the Ocean Maya with daytime activities we only went to Playa d Carmen one afternoon.It was filled with shops and places to satisfy every appetite.I highly recommend the Ocean Maya but always remember your vacation is what you make it... and only 30min from the airport

Nice Resort

The hotel was really nice and the room was amazing! The people at the hotel were so nice, helpful and respectful. The grounds are well maintained and at night all the lights were so beautiful and bright!

Great"adults only" resort

this small resort had it all. Great food. Friendly and accommodating staff.Beds and pillows very comfortable. lots of activities. shows in the evening were very professional. Beautiful pools, great drinks. the only thing I was disappointed with was the beach along the ocean. Lots of seaweed and rocky in places.not a very good beach for walking, some obstacles along the way. Still enjoyed this hotel very much.

Nice visit

The resort itself was nice, rooms clean and grounds well kept. They had a mix-up with our reservation and we were transferred to a neighbouring resort for 3 nights and then transferred back for 7 seven nights. We were upgraded to "Privilege Status" which I understand costs quite a bit extra. I personally wouldn't pay for this as I don't see much value. We found the private beach area rather boring. We ended up spending our time at the "regular" pool area as this seemed to be where everything was [... read more] happening. The entertainment wasn't great except for the fire show the last night we were there. I didn't like that they don't have shuttles into Playa del Carmen (or anywhere else for that matter) but you can book your excursions on site. We were given a coupon for a free five night stay for the inconvenience of moving around, but will have to wait and see if there is any problem in the follow through. Food was excellent. We ate mostly in the buffet but did try the Italian restaurant and it was delicious. Miguel at the pool bar was fantastic and the activity crew at the pool were great.

Amazing Resort!!!

Liked the area of our room. The ground & the hotel and also the rooms were very clean.The entertainment was fantastic both at the pool & the evening shows. The a la carte restaurants were exceptional and had a good variety in the buffet.Employees were very helpful and friendly. My only beef is no beach - could not take long walks along the beach. Enjoyed our two weeks stay and would love to do it again.

Exceeded Expectations!!!!

My wife and I just returned from the Ocean Maya Royale on Jan 14, 2015 and I have to say we were both surprised with how good this resort is. Food, service, housekeepers, bartender, english speaking employees, clean well manicured grounds..... it was soooooooo nice. I have to also say, free WiFi in rooms, main lobby and even on the beach, I have never been offered so much service for the dollar you pay. Our BD TRAVEL rep (Andres / Drewski) was over and above, he actually let me use his personal  [... read more]phone to coordinate with friends that were at a different resort to meet up on a particular excursion. Oh and he's from Thunder Bay too. Ha. Thanks so much to all the staff and look forward to returning in the future.

Okay Resort

This resort was okay but I wouldn't rush back to it unless it was a real great deal; the grounds were beautiful, the public areas were also very nice and the rooms were beautiful but the food left me a little disappointed, the food was always cold and the only time I could get a hot meal was at the a la carte or the pasta station. Breakfast was not anything that was appealing to me, I like to make a bacon sandwich but the bacon wasn't cooked it was terrible and the days it was crisp you couldn't [... read more] bite into it. The pillows in the rooms were terrible. We travelled there in late November 2014 and maybe it was the time of year but we were mostly disappointed in the beach!! The water was so brown that some days I wouldn't even swim in it.

Beautiful Resort

The hotel is well maintained and very beautiful. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Very easy to know your way around and to find what you need. The five restaurants have a variety of different foods and themes, which was nice. I would go back to this resort for sure.

Nice resort

We really liked our resort and accommodations . Food was very good. I only wish this resort would have swim out rooms. I really did not like the pool areas enjoyed the beach much better. Lots of loungers on beach to enjoy.

Wonderful resort!

This was the best all-inclusive I have ever stayed at. The food was great, staff was very friendly and kind, the beach was well-kept and there were so many activities happening throughout the day. I would easily stay here again. My only qualm was that I think Mike's Coffee should be open for a few hours in the morning and a few hours in the evening (rather than just from 4-11PM).

Simply wonderful

Had an amazing 10 day stay in late October. Had a wonderful relaxing time at this smaller adults only resort. Food was great both a la carte & buffet. Ollie the bartender at the lobby bar was outstanding as was Miguel at the pool bar. Resort was very clean, staff very friendly, no complaints at all & would definitely go back

Wonderful resort

This resort was delightful! We much prefer the smaller resorts and this one had all the perks of the larger resorts. The entire resort was extremely well maintained and the staff couldn't have been more helpful and courteous. Would definitely return!!!

Great Resort for the money.

Great pools, great staff. Only negative we have for the resort is the smoking. People were allowed to smoke everywhere except the main lobby. Were even allowed to smoke in the pools. Discusting for those who don't smoke, plus with the drunks were in for getting a burn. Should enforce smoking areas like on the beach instead of around the pools and in the pools and grounds. No smoking in eating places thank goodness. Cruise ships can enforce this why can an all-inclusive resort. Also staff didn't  [... read more]make up rooms til late afternoons even if you put make-up room sign early in morning. Had a medical emergency were husband ended up in hospital for 4 days and the staff were very helpful and attentive and caring. Great staff especially at the front desk. Also bars were very good. Food ok. Not as good as Excellence Riviera where we were 4 years ago. Grounds fantastic.

Bright, Sunny & HOT !!

a friend & I stayed at Ocean Maya Royale in Oct 2013. The weather was unusually hot -- approx 40C+. The resort is conveniently located for travel to Playa Del Carmen or Cancun. PROS - all staff were extremely fast, friendly & efficient. service was excellent -- the staff made the vacation more enjoyable. - the rooms were nice / air-conditioning was wonderful, especially with the extreme heat. - grounds well maintained & included signs identifying rooms / all the local wildlife. - upgraded to 'P [... read more]riviledge' after 2 days -- well worth the extra expense. CONS - there is little or no shade around the the small beach & pools. - * NOT ENOUGH BEACH CHAIRS * for everyone -- yet chairs/beds in 'Priviledge section were vacant. - ocean not easily accessible. - the theatre not air-conditioned -- TOO HOT to watch performances - food was fair, but, is repeated every few days.

Ocean maya

The grounds were beautiful, food was decent. They overbooked and made us stay at their sister hotel 20 mins down the road, which was a decent hotel and then transferred back the next night and was upgraded to privilege! I left my hair dryer accidentky at the first hotel and they were going to charge me $36 American to retrieve it, super disappointing. Other than that, it was a great stay.
