Tryp Cayo Coco

I found the resort to be dated. They renovated summer of 2018, however this renovation was only the lobby; personally I think the money should have been used to update the rooms. The food was not bad but could have been better. Well seasoned but not much of a selection. Positives; bottle of water in room everyday, towel service (one towel per day), the beach is AMAZING, very safe Negatives; no entertainment, internet (wifi does not last the one hour), rooms require serious updating, no [... read more]t well lit, 24 snack bar doesn't have burgers/hotdogs - only has ham and cheese / tuna / chicken salad sandwiches. All in all, the resort is a good 4 day get away because there isn't much partying; it's fairly quiet so I enjoyed it because I went away for a few days to get away from the craziness of home and regroup. If you want a more active, young crowd... this is not the resort for you.

12 Days of Sun & Fun

Amazed at how much they’ve been able to fix after the hurricane. Gardeners were working very hard to restore the vegetation. Breakfast at the buffet was great with lots of choices. Snack bar was close by the pool and convenient. Went to the Cuban reastourant once beef was nice and tender. Went to the Azul International 3 times cause we like lobster,cost an extra $20pesos but we’ll worth it. They have a new beach bar with a big sitting area, but no washroom nearby. They’ve brought in a ton  [... read more]of sand and extended the beach. This was our 6th time here and really enjoy the people who work very hard to make your vacation enjoyable

Repeat guest

Once again we returned to Tryp. We were there for 2 weeks in Jan. and returned with family March 31-Apr 7. In Jan the weather was not good many days of rain. In April we had excellent weather...sun every day --no rain! As usual the workers are very friendly.

LOVE this resort !!!

Had another fabulous time @ TRYP Was originally put in Block #9 Hotel staff thought that the handicapped shower would be nice but definitely not needed by us. Was extremely happy that the hotel staff helped us to re-locate to Block @7 as we do find it easier for us with the wheelchair and me with having a bathroom closer to the pool.....Can hardly wait to come back next year !!! You guys are the BEST

Overall a good resort

Hotel was very clean and most of the staff were incredibly friendly. The a la carte dinners were fairly enjoyable however 90% of the buffet food was terrible. The grounds were in good shape considering how soon we visited after the hurricane. The pools were clean and the beach was beautiful. We always had something to do and they had amazing entertainment. Overall a good experience.

Beach, Staff, Views: A+

We love Cuba for its gorgeous scenery, amazing people, first-class service and unbeatable value. This resort did not disappoint in these factors. In terms of food, I'd say the variety of choices in the buffet was poor in comparison to other parts of Cuba we've been. However, overall we found we really enjoyed the food itself: Specifically our entire meal at the Cuban restaurant, the fresh-made-to-order buffet options, and the grilled ham and cheese sandwiches. There is not a bad view from anywhere on the resort. I liked how you can view the beach and resort action even from the lobby. The view from our room of the huge beach and turquoise water was unbelievable. Pool was clean and swimup bar was a great time. Activities around the pool were fun. The staff at the resort are amazing--we had 5-star service from everyone we encountered. Bar staff are great, activity team fun but not in your face, waiters super personable, lobby staff, gardeners, maids, etc...all friendly, helpful and kind people. We had a great time and met many amazing fellow travellers as well. And finally: the beach! Incredible. Long, gorgeous, and worth every penny. Loved our trip and thought it was an excellent value.

Worst Hotel In Cuba

Let me start with the good things about this hotel since its not so many. Please take a note that this is my 8th times in Cuba so I knew what to expect. .Like usual employees in general were very nice and trying to help(Cubans are always nice) Dancers were working hard for the shows at night Hotel was clean even if its very old. I seriously believe their head chef should quit his job asap and start looking for another type of job cause you and your team my friend doesn't know crap about cooking. Not only there are no variety or any little changes in the buffet, the things they have cooked to the worst way possible. Entertainment is Zero. Almost zero activity at the pool side or beach. Also at the beach there are no umbrellas. Only time you see some activities stuff when around 11 am they come to pool and call it action 11 or maybe I'm wrong it could be action 12 or something. They do 1 little kid game and gone .you wont see them again. They got beach wolley,basketball,water polo nets but they don't have any balls to play .I asked them several times and they say we don't have anyway they said they don't have any but there is a ball appeared last 2 days of my vacation. I guess they were either didn't wanna give me or a traveler left a ball. Still don't get why you have all those nets if u don't have tools to play. Also pool side Dj omg. STOP playing the same music everyday and add that stupid muahhh in every song. He knows what I'm talking about. And why the hell you have a disco when you don't even use it cause they do their disco outside right next to building where people are sleeping(trust me usually only less than 10 people are there dancing).and trust me music is sooooo loud base is soooo high that you can here it from another hotel. So Dear hotel manager you don't know crap about running this place either. If people are telling you music is too loud every time which were a lot of people complaint and you did NOTHING.I wish you were sleeping in my room to understand how it feels to feel the base in your body while you are trying to sleep at 2 am every freaking time. I still got so many thing to say but I better stop . One last thing is this is a Melia hotel but Even Melia lost hope in this hotel I'm sure. I mean how can you put your name on a hotel and don't run them like others. Answer is easy Those Board members are looking us Canadians as easy money. They know we go anywhere with pool and sun I want my money back but of course you cant do that cause need to feed those corporate board members fat stomachs .

Great beach but resort not so much!

We had booked this resort based on recommendation from travel agent. Hotel was very old and dated. Although much has been done since Hurricane Irma I believe the hotel has much to improve as it appears that it was hurting before the storm. We booked premium ocean view. The view was breathtaking and the beach was incredible. With premium ocean view we were to have priority check in. This did not happen and we were last to be checked in. Cupboard doors would not close, tv had to be replaced as it would come on and off by itself on a channel that was not in operation so would screech, so had to unplug it. No towels including beach towels and fridge were not stocked as promised with premium package. We also did not have a phone in the room so would have to go to front desk to resolve issues. Customer service were very quick to change tv, stock fridge and towels apologizing for error. On our last night we had to be moved as our door could not open at all. We were moved next door and the room was so much better. We also realized we were able to breathe better making us wonder if the other room had mold in the air conditioning unit. Being that we booked premium we had ala cartel reservations for suppers each evening and one night a lobster dinner was included. We are so thankful for the ala carte resteraunts as the buffet was horrible. The food choices lacked variety, were cold and did not look appetizing. Service was horrible and you could finish your entire meal and never be offered a drink. Right outside the buffet and snack bar was a lagoon. The smell that came from this area was putrid and would turn you off of food! The men’s washroom outside these areas was also not working the entire week so the women’s washroom was used by. The ala carte resteraunts were very good. Service was wonderful and food was good and hot. The international was our favourite and we were lucky to eat there three times. Bar service was slow and drinks were never the same when ordered. Entertainment in the evening was good. Pool and beach area had no washrooms close to the area for people to use and it did appear that the pool may have been used as a toilet. Luckily we are beach people and the beach is just amazing. We could spend hours and since it was so large you felt like you were the only one there. We made the best of it but I cannot recommend this resort to anyone. Many may think I am being picky as “we were in Cuba” but there needs to be standards met to keep people safe ie) food prep, hygienic conditions.

Somewhat Disappointed

Might return if I thought the rooms were upgraded. I was in a ground floor room a five minute walk from the lobby. I had requested something closer as I have a back and neck injury, but the buildings closer were closed for renovations I assume. Lots of noise at night from the machinery on the beach, so was difficult to walk the beach as areas were cordoned off. Beach was great though compared to Ibostar Mojito where I stayed last year. Would not return

The hotel was sub par at best the main building/area where the buffet was had a water way that probably at one point was a water feature or looked nice but now was sewage and smelled just as that raw sewage. The wifi was $3 for an hour and only in the lobby.. we were on the third floor our toilet hardly ever worked and the first night we had a crab in our room we had to catch and get rid of. The beach was lovely but it didn’t really make up for the rest.

Tryp with tripcentral

Had a wonderful one week stay at the Tryp in February 2018. Had an issue with non-functional electrical outlets in the room but that was dealt with quickly with a temporary fix for the first night and a proper repair the next day. Rooms were clean. Food was good. Staff were very helpful and friendly. There was construction happening as they were still recuperating after the big storm last fall. There were several blocks of rooms still under renovations so the resort was not completely operat [... read more]ing at full capacity. I'm guessing that's why there was only one a la carte restaurant open? FYI, it was very breezy so we didn't get much chance to enjoy the beach. That breeze was a bit cool in the evening so I was very happy that I had packed a warm sweater. Overall, a lovely vacation but compared to my daughter's review from her stay here last year, I feel that we may have been short -changed as a result of that nasty storm last fall.

Phenomenal resort !

The resort was great. The beaches are white and the water is crystal clear , most beautiful beaches. The food was delicious and the people were amazing. This was our first time here, and definitely not our last. We had an amazing time ! Definitely recommend the cave party and the Jeep excursions. Amazing experiences

Amazing week!

We had a great time at Tryp Cayo Coco. We ran into minor hicups (water/power failures) but they fixed everything very quickly. This resort is amazing and the people working there are really special. There’s a family feel to this place. I guess this is why people keep coming back. For the right price, this place is just what you need. Decent food, beautiful pool and beach, clean (but dated) room, new renovated lobby and awesome service.

Pretty good resort

Our second trip. The things most liked are the beach and the walk in pool. My wife needs a walker, so my wife needs easy access to all amenities. The room (704) is very poor, broken furniture, and the bathroom is very poor, chipped bath and all. The beds were ok.All rooms should have a walk in shower, my wife could no climb into the bath. Favourite place for a getaway

This was our 4th time to the Trypp in the last 5 yrs. still my favourite place. This resort has an amazing beach with lots of chairs. Pools are great, quiet pool is my favourite. Rooms are older however are very clean. You don't go to Cuba to hangout in your room. Food is always good. Fresh fried rice and pastas made in front of you are the best. Again you don't go to Cuba for food and the rooms. You go for the sun, beach, and most of all the friendly resort workers that make your stay comfortab [... read more]le and enjoyable. There is evidence still of the aftermath of hurricane Irma however the staff have done a great job making it operational. Most visible was the missing vegetation which they are replanting daily.

Amazing Resort & Staff!!

The best staff I have ever encountered at a resort (my husband and I travel down south 2x year) who are extremely helpful and a joy to be around. The GM Christian always makes sure every aspect of the hotel is running smoothly and we see him there everyday; wonderful man who is in touch with all aspects of the hotel. Thank you for all you do! Staff at international Julio Cesar, Osmany, Lisette at the beach bar and many others just to name a few are phenomenal...and stop in to see Royland for a ceasar because he makes the best ones at the market! The Food is great, don't listen when people complain about food ever... there are so many options available and I have celiac and was able to eat and people understood my condition! Lastly, we have been to Tryp both before and after the hurricane.. the fact that everyone has come together and how great everything looks is remarkable... can't wait to go back!!

Adequate Resort

When we stayed there mid January Tryp was still undergoing a lot of repair work and rebuilding. The lobby felt quite bare as there were mostly metal chairs to sit on. They had some comfortable seating too but there weren't enough of these for everyone. The beach is beautiful to walk along as you can enjoy the entire stretch when the tide is out. They have replaced most of the overhead shade areas now and have added wheel chair ramps to each boardwalk. There was no foot rinse station yet so on [... read more]e had to rinse off in the pool after going to the beach. The buffet food was fresh and tasty even if not especially varied. I found the best meals were the ones made fresh for you at the various stations. The buffet room itself was very functional with white tables and plastic place mats. Our room looked out over the ocean with a balcony so I didn't care that the TV didn't work and there was no hot water for a couple of days. The room was cleaned well every day and restocked with towels and water. The staff were absolutely phenomenal!! Friendly, hard working, and quick to help you with whatever you needed.

Incredibly beautiful beach. Great staff. Rebuilding after hurricane damage.

As with almost every resort or hotel, and almost every review of TRYP itself, this review has positives and negatives. We just returned from a week Jan 10-17 with a group of three couples, and here are my observations. Some observations: There sure was a lot of damage from hurricane Irma and they are working very hard indeed to restore the resort. They must have been devastated. There are palm stumps all over the place, and I can only imagine how beautiful it was previously. We were in [... read more] Block 5 and it was really not fully restored yet. I think they opened it too soon as many of the other blocks looked totally restored, while ours looked like a bit of a dump. Our room had only tepid water or cold water for most of the stay. There was hot water only on the last day. The bathroom was worn out with a sagging shower curtain rod and plugged up shower head (that I fixed myself) and dirty woodwork around the desk. The TV was broken and the balcony door had no lock. It was OK I suppose, as we were only there to sleep, but a hot shower would have been nice. The lobby is exposed and breezy due to the loss of the covered front areas. The lobby seating is limited to a few hardware store plastic couches and chairs, plus some metal round lounge tables and chairs. The beach has few amenities - all was blown away in the storm, however it's a stunning, gorgeous beach! The best I have ever seen in my life. We just loved it even on the cooler and windy days. TRYP has nice rectangular sunshade structures all along the front of the property. Much better than the round umbrella style palm frond parasols. There were plenty of beach chaise lounges too. The Asian and European a la carte restaurants were pretty bad. Food was tasteless or in the Asian, some dishes were almost inedibly salty. I brought my own peanut sauce and Thai chilli sauce to make things interesting. The Italian place was terrific however. My preference was the main dining hall buffet. As a vegetarian, I was able to assemble large delicious meals (with my own sauces). Oddly, you need to wait for staff to bring a spoon if you are eating cereal. Throughout the resort the staff was exemplary. They really, really went out of their way to take care of the guests. The only exception was the barmaid at the a la carte restaurant martini bar who actually had the gall to mock me in front of my friends because I didn't want a drink. We enjoyed several excursions: The catamaran, the glass-bottom boat, the climbing thing down the road (and my favourite) the horseback riding, which was stunningly beautiful as the horses trotted through the surf. Tipping is at your discretion and no one ever pressures you to tip. WiFi is pretty bad... it seemed rare that it actually worked, and when it did the service just crawled along. The entertainment crew was just amazing... what a super talented bunch! We enjoyed every show they put on... very fun stuff. They have done a lot of work, but they still have a long way to go
