This hotel was very nice as far as rooms, pool, beach area and food in buffet a little above the usual Cuban fair.
The customer service was extremely poor. Spent a whole day asking for water (3 visits to reception-manager the next day...). It was like asking for gold. The drinks were very poor. The beach waiter said it best. I asked what was good. "Beer". No margarita, no daiquiris, no specialty coffees. No red wine on Sunday night.....The workers all seemed very discontent no smiles there...[... read more]anyway you get the jest of it. I thought it may be related to the fact that I took the basic rate and not Royalty Rate but those people were even worst off service just as bad and they had no beach on their area and had further to go for anything they were even more disappointed. Cuba is too windy too many red flag days on the beach for me. I'm done.

The good and the bad
We stayed here 6 years ago and were excited to return. The beach is amazing with no one selling products on the beach and it is in a lovely cove. The views, the water and the beach were stunning. Our room was clean and we were taken care of daily by a lovely lady. Staff was great for the most part with the exception of a few who were pushy for tips even though we always tipped. Some even asked for items. We had a few favorite waitresses who were so friendly but not intrusive or pushy. The food wa[... read more]s terrible when we arrived but we noticed each day there were improvements, such as cold meats on ice, nicer displays, carvings, more choices, variety, table clothes. At times it appeared a new manager had stepped in mid week. We heard someone had spoken to someone from the Melia Group! There were 5 a la carts in the info but only 3 were open the entire week. The facility was showing neglect with big and small things that needed attention. We found out on day 5 they are closing for renovations in May, however still having guests they should not just let things go.
We enjoy Cuba however this resort is not what it was!

Disappointing
Rooms were not well kept. No rooms have 4 beds so families of 4 have to pair up. Most rooms had two twin beds and a pull out sofa that sits on the floor. Our family of 4 was given three single beds. We moved rooms after the first night and that room had no hot water for three days. Mini bar was not filled daily and when room service was called, nothing was brought for three days straight. Service was very slow, and took at least 15 minutes to get a drink at any bar. No times available for restau[... read more]rants and they turned off the hand dryers in the bathrooms, so they could hand you paper towels for tips at night in the main lobby. The whole resort was way understaffed. Been to Cuba many times and this was very disappointing. Melia needs to invest some money back into this resort badly

Great vacations
The hotel was nicely laid out. Grounds were well kept. Impossible to book a la cartes. We only got one. Staff friendly. Food at buffet was very good. Beach area was amazing. Spa was very overpriced for what you received. I usually love a couple spa days on vacation however it was not worth the money.

Paradise at Paradisus
Had a great week. There was a few problems with our first room but they quickly switched us to a great room. Beautiful beaches! Great pools! Staff were helpful, attentive and extremely personable. Should have taken bug spray as I got a lot of bites.

Not As Expected
The grounds were beautiful and the food in the a la cartes was quite good. The buffet was ok. Our first room was a disaster eg, no door to the bathroom and no hot water. to name a few issues. When we complained we were quickly moved to a new and much nicer room. We were also given a free massage for our inconvenience which was very nice.
We were both covered in bites by the end of our stay. After Bite is a real blessing.

Be careful about which section you book
We were very disappointed with the accommodations in the older, unrenovated section. The stained tub, ratty shower curtain and lack of a proper shower head were a nuisance. But the fact that the air-conditioning did not work made our stay intolerable. After multiple complaints we were upgraded to the Family concierge section, which was a vast improvement. Lovely, clean, modern and working A/C!

Disappointed, not returning.
We were at this resort the same time, last year. We loved it so much we wanted to go back again this year. This year we were somewhat disappointed and will go somewhere else next year. PROS:Our maid was great, pools were well maintained. we loved the restaurant by the pool which served the best chicken wings, calamari, fresh pizza, cheese strips, burgers and sundaes.Entertainment was acceptable. The a-la-cartes were just okay. CONS: Beach was only cleaned once in the week we were there, Mini bar[... read more] in room was only refilled once with beer after a request at the front desk and after customer service called asking if everything was good and if there was anything we needed. Coffee was never replenished. Food was not as good as last year, never anything really spectacular. I was disappointed in the 2 level room, asked to move and was not accommodated. One of the reasons we chose to come back to this resort was the pristine ocean, unfortunately the water this time was very rocky for the most part, making it hard to get in and out.

Resort with an awesome pool
-Nice grounds
-Beautiful beach
-Nicely landscaped
-Fabulous pool with multiple depths.
-Management staff did not have enough staff to staff the buffet however some of the staff provided excellent service.
-Rooms were fine and well cleaned.
They should designate a quiet area on the beach.
The food was disappointing for a four and a half star resort it seemed to be more the type of food for a three and a half star resort however the snack bar was excellent.

Paradisus
Greeting fellow Travelers,
I thought it would be fair to share our experience in Cuba at Paradisus in Cuba.
We had the lucky break of being upgraded to a very nice suite in the Family Concierge section - we have our Daughter's family join us with our 9 month old grandson.
So nice start indeed.
The weather was absolutely perfect - the beach is very pleasant to walk and had the luxury on our early morning walk to share some dolphins strolling the beach - rather cool.
The food in C[... read more]uba (our 4th time) is always going to be a little sketchy - I would suggest the Buffet as your strongest bet - the Japanese was fair - bland but the Salmon was fairy generous, the restaurant on the Ocean was our worst meal - my god it was terrible - I hate being critical but that was just plain awful - headed to the Buffet right after :))))
Bana was decent too - but again - you won't leave there saying - is that Ramsey in the kitchen???
The lunch spots were decent - chicken, sausages and some fish - so all in all - you won't starve. What was odd at times they ran out fries (how dare they) one day and Calamari - and sometimes even ketchup!!!
Breakfast was solid - must admit!!!
We stayed at the Royalton - Royal Hicacos the last 2 years and the service seemed superior to Paradisus - but saying that - a few good ones that were great to us and were very pleasant - so really no major complaints there.
Our room was an issue - they didn't resupply our coffee, I asked for a few extra beers - 2 different folks and both times - nada - seemed odd to us as we upgraded and it's a simple request. We're pretty easy going but then we also noticed they we paid for turn in service - I hope I got that right - another little visit to ensure your room is tidy and ready to go midday and it was never done.
So not major issues but it built up then our daughter room had a bug infestation issue under her sink - that was a tad scary - bugs are bugs and these guys had girth on them - luckily or unluckily they showed up the last day- so of course after all of us jumping on the bed to save our lives - we
said eh - they were confined and reported it and it can happen but still alarming.
The grounds were pleasant but the walk for some - to and back from the family concierge unit is a walk - luckily I don't mind the walk but some might think it's a pain. They have shuttle service.
The Internet cards are funny - 1 hour but you have to scratch the code to use them - the hotel key seemed the only way to work - little tip :)
it was spotty but not bad overall.
So wrapping up the trip we talked to the General Manager (David) and he was very appreciative of our honesty and our lack of service at times,
meal and of course the issue in the room. He gave us a nice bottle of rum - which was a nice gesture and we said our good byes and off we went back to snowy Canada.
So all in all 6/10 - little things that can be so easily fixed but for a family excursion I'd say it's not the worst spot by any stretch -
Happy travelling!!!

“Kind regards†to eliana Anton
Hello.. so I bought the tickets from eliana Anton , which I was dissapointed with. First of all, her name sounds pure Romanian - just like mine- but she was denying her background. I requested king bed , but at the resort I was given 2 doubles attached to each other. Eliana made me understand that what I booked for was 5 stars hotel but really, was just 4. The royal service it was 5 stars. Mischieving I felt from her part.

Don’t go here!!!!!!!
We arrived at night. We immediately noticed much stagnant water around the entire entrance of the resort. Prime!!! Mosquito breeding grounds!!!
We were concerned by lack of simple identification bracelets. Nothing distinguished me from anyone else— potentially dangerous actors.
We checked into our room. It is clearly a run-down hotel trying little fixes to update it. It’s not working.
Upon walking into our room, we were blown away by mosquitoes!!! We immediately began swat[... read more]ting them with bath towels. The room looked like s slaughter house! But filled with unknown blood!!!
We had a ten day trip booked for this resort. We HAD TO MOVE out of this disgusting hotel. Food was horrible- except for the beach lunch bbq which was great. Don’t go here!

Amazing resort!! But......
The hotel wasn’t what we expected but by the end of the week we were getting accustomed to the food. There doesn’t seem to be any milk there. So bring creamers for coffee. Most staff were friendly. Gave a lot of humanitarian items they need and seemed appreciative. Bring blankets as ours in the room were very thin drapery type material..... not comfortable when air is on. Also no hot or warm water from taps. Getting through Cuban customs and sunwing flight to Cuba was concerning. You will b[... read more]e doused with insecticide on the plane to Cuba. Can’t be good for babies and small children that were on the flight. Also trouble going through Cuban customs for daughter and babies. My daughter had to dismantle stroller in a very rushed manner and shove it through conveyer belt as it wouldn’t fit all the while a customs officer grabbed her baby so she could tackle this. This put her in distress. During the dismantle the two year old fell back and hit his head and couldn’t catch his breath. All of this has to be mentioned because it was all part of the trip. Another traveller there had trouble getting walker through customs. After speaking to other Canadians at the hotel much of this is pretty typical of most hotels I.e. the food and rooms in Cuba We did however feel quite safe in a foreign country and the beaches were breathtaking. Also free use of catamaran and kayaks and scuba lessons. Nice to visit a place isolated from the world. It’s almost like going back in time. Pretty neat. Hope with opening borders this doesn’t change.

Pretty good for Cuba standards.
Large resort, huge pools, nice grounds, nice large rooms with fridge and drinks.
Right on the beach, which was shallow and very safe. Waters were calm or small waves.
Great sunsets.
Resort was very clean everywhere.
Staff friendly and very courteous.
Good entertainment with professional guest entertainers every night.
Food was tasty and abundant, but quite repetitive. Lacked fresh greens. That's Cuba. Variety of foods is limited in Cuba.
If choosing Cuba, go with an open mind. The[... read more]ir resources are limited and their standards are different.
A word of caution.
Avoid the beach early morning and late afternoon. My husband and a friend of ours returned home with mosquito-like bites. Apparently they are bites from "sand fleas". Never saw one, but the bites speak for themselves. Very itchy.

Huge Resort
We had booked our trip and went the first week of December 2018. The resort was quiet. The capacity was at 25%. I like how quiet it was because we get to relax but yet we wanted more of a night life at night but the main lobby bar cristal was very quiet. I wished the bartenders at the main bar were more interactive and fun. There were no recommendations on the drinks. Just asked us what we wanted with a grumpy face. There were other bartenders that were ok but could have been better. We stayed a[... read more]t the family concierge and we loved it. It's a big resort so bring a stroller if you can. The family pool area is the best. The music was always popping even though most days we had the pool to ourselves. The service in family concierge is good but the buffet service could have been better since we are staying at a 5 star. The food was alright but it's Cuba after all.
We had Hansel and Lilli as our family concierge. They were both awesome and very accommodating. Our house keeper for week Dec 6 to Dec 13 was amazing as well. On our last day, my daughter became fussy and Hansel surprised her with a balloon and that made her smile so much. That little service makes a big difference. Thank you Hansel!
The bartenders and servers in the family pool area and outdoor restaurant were great. No complaints there. Please let them know they were great!
Lilli was fantastic. She had booked a dinner for my husband and I at Royal Service for one night. Their dining service at the Royal Service area is 100% better then the service we received at any dining at the main area and family concierge. A big difference. We really enjoyed our food and evening in the Royal Service area which is adults only area. Thank you Lilli!
Hansel and Lilli both amazing! Always found us and asked what we needed and arranged our trip to Havana in a vintage car.
There's a great daycare at this resort. I trust them so much. We had one person (forgot her name) watched our daughter one evening in the room for 1.5 hours while we went to the beach party Saturday Dec 8. The entertainment on the beach was fabulous. A must watch. The daycare lady was so friendly and sweet. There's also this other day care lady ...who looks younger then her age. I forgot her name but I saw her mostly everyday when I brought my daughter Ever into play. She always called my daughter by her name and was always just so cheerful to be around.
If we had come at a busy time to this resort...probably wouldn't have received the best service but it would have been more entertaining and fun. We really enjoyed our stay. Just wished some of the workers were more friendly and cheerful. Make it more fun you know?
Daycare and Concierge are a must! They provided 5 star service.
Buffet and a la carte service needs more work.
The beach was beautiful.
All the pool areas are nice and clean.
Family Rooms are big. Nothing to complain there.
A good resort overall.

Great Daycare!
Our almost 2 yo had a blast in the Kids Zone b/c of Maya!
The quality of the food was as inconsistent as the service. Either too much salt or no seasoning and not enough selection in the buffet. The a la carte options were nothing special. Bring CAD currency & be prepared to for their "tourist" exchange rate, which does not favour tourists at all. Another total turn off. Cuba has commodified their economy to the point where Capitalism is not only alive but thriving in their so-called Communist [... read more]country. Our Sunwing flight couldn't take off for our night flight, so we were bussed back to Memories, which was way lower end then Paradisus. Save your $$$ & do NOT fly with Sunwing.

Best trip so far to Cuba
This is the second time I have been to Cuba. Last time, I was in RIU now changed into Grand memories. This time's stay in Paradisus make me feel way less crowded, better beach and close to ocean. I can hear the waves of ocean during my sleep.
That was fantastic experience.
The only problem was buffet seem to have much less choices of food compared to other hotel at the same level. not much changes over my 5 days of stay in term of food.
Big show was not daily, every two or three days. that i[... read more]s fine. maybe due to less audience.
Overall. I highly recommend it especially for people want to swim, enjoy the beach rather than eating and watching show.
