Very good

Well kept grounds and manicured shrubs, very helpful staff at the pools and the beach, food is good but not excellent, Stayed at the royal service section, we loved the room, but the furniture was outdated, We were there for 2 weeks, we tried all a la carte Restaurants, the menus carry about same items in all of them , except for Ja [... read more]panese, the buffet displays almost the same dishes every day ....we didn't drink alcohol during day time but enjoyed few cocktails at the Royal Service lounge especially ( 12 year old) St Tiago de Cuba Rum...

First but not our Last Visit

The highlight of the Resort was the Staff, whether Reception, Bar, Food or Maintenance, all Staff seemed happy and could not do enough to ensure every bit of our stay was enjoyable We enjoyed the Beach, Pool and Spa facilities each almost daily. Food was always excellently prepared and plentiful. There are a few areas of maintenance concern where it seems like management has chosen to not keep infrastructure in base condition (our Patio door handle was broke, some Tiki Huts with rotten  [... read more]floors, Patio Tiles broke and not replaced) but I truly believe their doing their best in a financially constrained business environment, and ensuring the important items are in good repair. We spoken with many visitors who are repeat visitors, many for over 10 years, and most after having bad experiences at other resorts. This was a first visit to Cuba for us, and we were not disappointed. If we return to Cuba, we will choose Paradisus Rio de Oro again, without hesitation

We had a very good time in Paradisus Rio De Oro!

My husband and I came for one week. It is our 2nd time on this resort. Ocean-view bungalow look cozy but needs upgrade. Room was always clean! The view of the ocean was spectacular (this is why we staying here the 2nd time). Nice landscape: workers put a lot of efforts for it to look good. Entertaining team create a great atmosphere and customers have a lot of fun throughout a day. Food in buffet is okay: couple of time something was not very fresh and or tasty, but we always find something go [... read more]od to eat. The fish and meat grill and crapes stations were very good; the eggs/omelet and pasta stations were also good. Due to drought there were no bananas and mangoes. Desserts were not as good as last time (4 years ago).. Food in Mediterranean Restaurant was not tasty or special. It was my birthday and I suppose to get a cake but after 20 minutes of waiting we decided to leave without the cake. That was a little bit disappointing. In Cuban Restaurant the waiters purposely do not mentioned that they have the lobster (it was not on the menu), thus we ordered chicken. When we saw that other customers got the lobsters we inquired about it, so they brought us one lobster. Later we spoke with the other customers and they had the same experience. Either the restaurant did not have enough lobsters for everybody or maybe something fishy was going on there. Japanese restaurant was great: food is tasty and it's preparation was very entertaining. Staff are so friendly, helpful and professional! Thanks, guys!!! On Playa Esmeralda Beach we have been 6 times so far. In last couple of the visits we have noticed that the coral reef became bleached and started to die in some places. But during covid (without tourists I assume) the coral reef improved a lot and looks very healthy and beautiful again. Thus, snorkeling is great again! Overall, we had a very good time as usual in Cuba and in Paradisus Rio De Oro specifically. We will be back for sure soon.

Beautiful hotel

Hotel was very nice and clean, people very friendly grounds were lovely, was nice being on second floor with nice balcony, recommend bringing your own condiments, and was a little disappointed no white wine until night before we left, had we known would have brought our own, other than that would definitely go back

Beautiful resory

Very nice but could do with a few more garbage recepticals around pool and beach area. We had to leave before breakfast was open would be nice if we could of had access to a pastry before we left as we were able to get a coffee but nothing to eat only a snack at the airport and on the plane but apart from those two things that was my only complaint.the staff could not of treated us any better

Beautiful resort

Beautiful gardens, beach and pool. Snorkelling was amazing! Gardeners at work daily keeping things neat and sweeping walkways. General public areas well maintained. Rooms were very clean. Yes, some food shortages on some days but not really an issue, lots to eat. The staff were amazing and so willing to accommodate. That more than made up for rooms bring slightly dated some fixtures about resort could do with a bit of maintenance. Public washrooms while clean( important factor) lacked some lock [... read more]s on doors or working hand dryers. A la cartes pretty good, lack of wine first week we were there but no issues second week. The few negative issues are not enough to keep you from visiting this beautiful resort.

Is beautiful very clean, people are very nice, one disappointed with no wine and no fault of theirs , other than that very good, food was ok bring your own condiments , we brought gifts which is nice for them

Another Amazing Stay!

We went for seven days in March 2023 on the Royal Service section. We were blessed with sunny days during the entire stay! We enjoyed their beautiful quiet and private beach. We also went to the main beach for snorkelling and for a catamaran ride. We started every day at the beach to finish at the pool. Both areas, on the RS side, are well maintained and excellent bar service was provided! Bartenders would go around to take your orders and would prepare the best tropical drinks! From mojitos [... read more] to piña coladas, all were delicious! At this resort, you will definitely find very good food and excellent service in all the restaurants! Even if beef, fish, and shrimps were not available, they always managed to prepare delicious cuisines. Their soups are so so good! Their hospitality were at the top! The entire area was well maintained and very clean! You will see gardeners working hard every day. The RS lobby is very well maintained and very clean. Our room service was impeccable; the maids with their beautiful art figures with the towels, the concierge people, and the butlers, with their quick response to our needs! From the jacuzzi set ups, restaurant and spa reservations, and to a variety of tips and advice! The bar fridge was filled every day and personalized according to our need. They have carts going around and the drivers are very nice and polite! What improved from our last visit is the communication about the daily activities happening at the main lobby. It’s now posted on a screen and accessible on the RS side. So, we did participate to a few this time around. What we missed, the classical and Cuban entertainers every evening on the RS side but it was okay, since it gave us a chance to connect with other Canadian travellers. Really enjoyed it! The entertainment was more at the main lobby and at the returned guests supper which is a definite must! We also went to the spa for a relaxing part of a day and massage! Aaaahhh... the best! Beautiful salted pool and private beach, it’s a must! The staff members are very kind and very attentive to your needs! We will definitely be back!! This resort is highly recommended! This was our third visit to this resort and looking forward to our fourth!

Cuba trip

Excellent resort Friendly staff clean room, everything on the resort close by, ala carte restaurants good,excellent service, beautiful beach, nice beach bar with restaurant, buffet bar food could be warmer

Nice Resort-not a 5 star

We had a good time however, this is not a 5 star resort. We understand the crisis Cuba is going through but you did not feel spoiled. They couldn’t make a decent drink, only the Mediterranean ala carte was any good. Resort and beach itself was nice but no perks at all. Cigar shop was closed all week. We wouldn’t return to this resort at that price.

Beautiful Resort

Beautiful resort...very clean and excellent staff. Food was very good in all the restaurants. The spa was amazing with its own private beach. Daily entertainment at the pool and never had a problem getting a chaise lounge at the pool or beach. Yoga was good and felt very safe going for a run outside the resort. The resort is designed with no high rise buildings with elevators..instead with small units with minimal or no walk up.

Excellent resort!

We had a great vacation at Paradisus Rio de Oro. This is our first 5-star, adults-only experience in Cuba and found that this resort is very well managed and taken care of. The gardens, the beach, the pool, our room were beautiful and well kept. The food was great as well (we love Cuban cuisine!), so congrats to the amazing chefs! The staff was very nice and friendly, and also helpful with us trying to improve our Spanish. What more can I say? We just loved this place, and this is our 15th time [... read more] in Cuba. Perfect location for romantic getaway

Paradisus Rio de Oro is a fantastic choice for a relaxing couples getaway. Set on a ridge above Esmeralda Beach, the quiet, natural setting, clean and well-maintained facilities and consistently friendly and helpful staff allowed us to disconnect and recharge. On the downside, it's a 60-90 minute drive from the airport depending on traffic. We opted for a Royal Service oceanview unit which is well worth the additional cost - like many similar premium options, it's a resort within the resor [... read more]t with access to private dining, beach and pool facilities in addition to those on the main resort. There's an on-site spa with separate pool and beach which you can use if you take advantage of spa services, and the prices are very affordable. There was a reasonable selection of hot and cold food and beverage options, although the range varied from meal to meal. The Japanese, Mediterranean and Cuban restaurants were better than expected while the main buffet and Continental restaurant were more run of the mill. Shopping options are very limited so be sure to bring toiletries, snacks, accessories, and anything else you think you might need. If you're looking for dancing, socializing, lots of excursion options or shopping, this is probably not the place for you. But if you like beaches and natural settings, appreciate great service, relaxing on the balcony, and you aren't too fussy about what you eat, you should definitely add this place to your list.

Amazing Resort!!

Not only is this resort beautiful with stunning beaches and well appointed rooms. The staff by far made our vacation! Every single person that works here goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome and taken care of! Looking forward to going back soon!

Great Resort

Well i was sceptical of going to Cuba this is my 3rd time and it was the best by far! Hotel grounds and landscaping has lots of character mature trees and very cozy , Very well laid out resort Beach was Beautiful but had rocky sections hard to get in and out of water But there is a section were it is just sand to enter Rooms are large and very clean excellent showers and bathroom Cant really complain about anything at all other than a bit dated but very nice Food was decent for Cuba l [... read more]ots of choices ala cart restaurants were good 4 choices Japanese was the Best !! Good value considering the inflated costs this year. Food is good and plentiful, buffet is very repetitive as in most resorts. Staff are very friendly. Grounds are clean and easy to get around. Pool cleanliness needs a bit of work, a good scrub would help it a lot. Most of the beach is rocky and not swimmeable but there is a small section which is sand bottoom. Rooms are cleaned daily, fresh bedding and towels every day. Rooms do smell a bit musty due to high humidity, same as all the caribean r [... read more]esorts we have visited. Our package said 4 a la cartes per week but that has changed to 3. Website also says coffee machines in rooms but that is wrong also. Over all we would give this resort a 4 at best although they think it's 4.5 Had a really good time. No regrets as long as you are not expecting luxury. We picked this resort quickly as plan B after Sunwing bailed on us with under 2 weeks notice. Having taken more time selecting we probably would not have been here but that OK.

Fabulous Resort. Wonderful Staff

This hotel is the nicest I have ever stayed at in Cuba. The food was excellent despite a few shortages here & there which is always expected in Cuba so not an issue for me. The staff are caring & friendly & always make you feel welcome.

Not at all what we expected

Unfortunately not as advertised Staff was nice (not everyone, some of them looked annoyed when asked a question) and that’s about the only positive thing. Upon arrival we were told we would get an email about activities etc - never received, no maps brochures etc When asked or complained about something we get cold “ sorry nothing we can do” Food was so so - not on the 5 star level. Bar - no choices at all, rum and whiskey is all they had. Not even mineral water, soda - absolutely  [... read more]nothing to choose from. They got Tonic on our second last day. Booked dinner for 4 in Japanese restaurant - they said we only have room for 2 the other 2 can sit at the regular table . Resort is spacious but old and tired looking. Holes and broken tiles on pathways ( witnessed a lady falling by the pool as she stepped in the hole) Cockroaches in the room, birds and bird poop everywhere, beach lounge chairs filthy, tables in the lobby sticky, no warm water, poor water pressure, and list goes on For the money we paid - huge disappointment !!

Magical Resort

We had a magical time at Paradisus Rio de Oro. The pools were lovely, the beach was amazing and all the staff were absolutely fantastic. We upgraded to Royal Service and it was 100% worth it. We definitely felt like Royalty. It was difficult to leave.
