A major scam

The website stated that many restaurants would be open for dining, when in fact, they were either closed or required VIP memberships. All 6 of us got food poisoning as well, would not recommend whatsoever!

Fail

My experience with the staff at Cofresi Palm Beach Spa Resort was horrible. If this is to be a 4* hotel, i would expect it to be significantly better. I have stayed in various countries around the world, but this was by far my worst experience. The staff was rude. When asking for for assistance from guest services or the reception counter, they would state that they cannot do it and to return the following day. On one instance I was told by Paula at the reception desk to return at 430p; w [... read more]hen I arrived at 3p she took forever to resolve my matter, and when 4p arrived she stated that her shift had ended and she passed me off to her coworker. If I had shown up at 430p as originally directed, she would not have been there, and my issue would have NOT have been even reviewed. There is no service at this venue. One would think that if you have a bar located near the main lobby that there would be servers walking around, asking if you need anything, clearing up tables etc. Not one server is to be found. This is a great place for the staff to make tips. If a server is walking around they would get some form of tip on every round. Why is not a service being provided. Even if you do not want to hire more people for that, you could have one of the bar tenders do this, vs them standing behind the bar watching the screen or being on their phones. The tables were not cleared of garbage until the following morning, cups were all over the area. This is not what I call 4* resort appearance. There was the SAME garbage all around the edge of the pool on the upper level. The rooms were average in the area designated for locals and anyone who is NOT American. There are no screen's on the patio doors, or windows. Leaving you in a position to keep the rooms closed, in fear of bugs coming into the rooms. The bathtubs were scratched up and not sealed around the faucet, tap and other parts of the tub and sinks. Not once was the counter in the bathroom ever cleaned once we arrived. If you have a king bed in your room then you have the honour of having a wardrobe and two side tables to store your belongings. If you have 2 doubles, are to resort to keeping your stuff in your luggage, as there is only 1-2 side tables and no dresser. It should also be listed that with the rooms there is no safe. You are required to rent a lock for the safe for the time you are there. This does not make foreigner feel that their passport and other personal belongings are secure. If you put the towels on the ground to be changed during the cleaning service, you were not guaranteed to get the same number of hand or face towels once the cleaning service was done with your room. Normally one has 1 body towel, 1 hand towel, and 1 face clothe per a person in the room. One day we had 2 hand and face towels, the next we had 1 hand towel, and another 1 hand and one face. There is simply no consistency. I understand that there is always different smells when visiting a new hotel. But to constantly be slapped in the face with the stench of sewers that were around the property was horrible. We visited the other resorts as we had access to them. This property of the Lifestyle family was the only one with this rank smell lingering around its pathways. Remember, I have stated I have travelled all over the world, and this stench was not a pleasant one. Should you have a physical disability or children where you require to use a stroller. This is NOT a hotel for you. There are over 100 steps leading from the lobby to the beach. Yes there is a bus that circulates through, of which they state is to come every 30m. But it is more like per an hour. Should you need to get to your rooms, you will need to take the stairs to get there, as you are NOT a VIP with Air Transat. VIPs get a golf cart which enables you to drive where ever you need to with ease. What would be very helpful, is that at the base of each stair, leading to another level of the hotel there was a map of where we were. Because there are so many stairs, and paths, one might think they are taking a short walk to their destination,, but they are taking a long convoluted route. As one is NOT walking around with their paper map all the time. As this resort has the bulk of its guest come for the weekend. The Pearl buffet is only open for breakfast & lunch on Fridays through Sundays. There is NO signage to indicate that you have the option to visit the restaurant by the beach for those meals. We only found this out, as another guest had told us we can go there. Otherwise we were taking the shuttle to the Buffet Casablanca at the next LifeStyle resort. The staff in the restaurants were wonderful. The only thing that I can say was that they did not wear their masks properly. Some wore it as a chin strap, others as a mouth guard. Once again, consistency. If the staff are required to wear it then they should be wearing it correctly. I would rate this a 2-3star .... definitely not a 4 star

Being there do it again

Ive been to this resort many times, why i like it is because the pools and grounds are kept well and clean, walking around the hotel areas is amazing always something to see. The workers from the grass cutters to waiters and waitress to those who keep your room clean are all amazing what they do each day after day.You must realize that I went for a Month stay and see this every day. Like I said the people employees working there were great and now to tell you what was not to my liking first Internet was very expensive but never worked always shutting down, the general areas to eat food was the same every day and never changed, i no its not the workers fault its at the top.What the hotel and staff did for Covid was excellent very impressed.

Amazing resort

This place was amazing! The people the food the rooms were all worth every penny. It's was safe even with covid. I would 100% go back. You really don't need VIP we got thst anyway Everyone wearing 😷, the locals were great and met all our needs and more.

Trip from Hell

The grounds were beautiful. Road traffic heavy, golf carts, buses, vans. All on public walkways. Food good until second week then all three of us were sick. Room was spacious although dated, not enough storage, bathroom unacceptable, no hot water half of the 2 weeks, leak in the ceiling during heavy rain( 5 days of that ). No umbrella available until 3rd day, all of which were heavy rain. The resort sent my family ( which came on our day 5 ) to a different resort. Two days of working to get them [... read more] to our resort. No power on too many occasions to count one of which was at night. My wife felt her way to the bathroom only to slip on the leaked water on the floor causing several bruises. There was some good but not worth mentioning.

Cofresi

Really nice resort a lot of walking, very clean and good food. The trip was kind of hindered due to Coronavirus just wanted to make it home safe. Didn’t drink nothing on the last couple of days didn’t want to feel ill on flight home.

A good resort overall.

We were staying at Cofresi hotel from March 1 to March , 2020. Pros: 1. An excellent accommodation. 2. A good food. 3. Friendly service. 4. Miraculously, no flies, mosquitoes, and other insects. Cons: 1. A couple of stray dogs living on the beach. 2. Frequent power outages during the first three days, when heavy rain was falling. 3. Poor shuttle service for the rainy days. On at least one occasion, during a downpour, people with no umbrellas were waiting for about one hour to have  [... read more]a ride to a restaurant. 4. No hot water on one rainy day. 5. Practically no internet connection; Wi-Fi service was very unstable and it was sometimes available only at Casablanca restaurant. 6. An insufficient number of beach chairs that leads to a morning competition for them. 7. Some locks for security deposit boxes were very tough to operate with; they need a good lubrication. 8. Practical impossibility to split 5 or 20 US dollar banknotes into one dollar bills. These dollars are needed for small tips to the service people; the reception desk always refuses to do it. One final advice: bring along waterproof boots when a heavy rain is expected on some days. In this case, the regular walkways could easily become flooded for 2-3 hours.

Great staff

We had a good stay at this resort. However I don't think I would go back. Its like they put together 5 resorts and made it one. Very large, lots of stairs. The room we stayed at was very basic, you would have to upgrade to get a nice one, but it was central and very close to a pool and bar. There was lots of food choice and lots of bars on the resort. To watch the entertainment, you had to take a shuttle to another place. Overall it was good, but I've been to better places for the same price.

Amazing food, friendly staff, rooms are mediocre

I went to this hotel with my best friend in feb 2020. The food was amazing, the restaurant and bar staff were so friendly and on the ball. There were so many pools to choose from and lots of seating around them. The beach was nice too. The only thing was we had an older room and it had a couple leaks and the AC was really loud and on the verge of breaking and our safe didn’t work, and it was near impossible to get the room issues resolved. Our room was 7 flights to the lobby. 6 to the restaurant. It wouldn’t be good for someone with accessibility needs.

Cofresi Palm

We enjoyed our stay at Cofresi. The food was excellent, yet our friends who we vacationed with went home with diarrhea. The resort is great for families and young people, but would be a challenge for the elderly, due to many stairs and uneven surfaces. The water in our room was quite unusual, we had hot water in the toilet, but only cold water in the shower. The water situation differed by the day - too hot one day, no heat the next. But sitting on a hot toiled was a bit of a nice surprise Two  [... read more]of our nights were cut short due to loud, drunk, hotel patrons. There doesn't seem to be any security to manage unruly guests, so the yelling went on for over an hour. It did ruin our sleep, and it is a key reason that we are not keen on returning. We loved Puerto Plata, the trip there was excellent. The beach at Cofresi was not very inviting, steep, and not very accessible.

Great people - resort needs work

At first glance Cofresi Palm Beach Resort looks great. The lobby provides a grand entrance that, unfortunately, the rest of the hotel doesn't live up to. Our rooms were OK. They were kept clean but the toilet had hot water and the shower, for the most part, had only hot or only cold water. Two of our seven nights were disturbed by drunken singing and yelling. The yelling continued for over two hours, reverberating off the concrete buildings. The food was generally good and we enjoyed the non-buffet restaurants. The servers were excellent - attentive, friendly and fast. The Pearl buffet can only be reached by stairs - we saw many older people struggling to get around the resort. On our last morning my friend, who we were travelling with, felt unwell and needed a glass of water or juice (she'd just thrown up) before we got on the bus to travel to the airport. I went to the closest bar but the bartender told me he was unable to serve me as he didn't officially open till 10am. Rule-keeping before compassionate customer service is always irritating.

Great Resort

Cofresi is a clean, large resort with lots to do. We also had access to the neighboring Tropical's buffet and pool. The weather and food was great. Felt safe and taken care of. This was our 2nd time there and we'll most likely do a 3rd.

Awesome

I thought this resort was great I really had no complaints. The staff were so friendly and the maids did a awesome job on our room. I would definitely go back. Lots of pools and restaurants to choose from. The only thing they can do is update there rooms.

I loved it

I don’t have any thing bad to say about this resort everything was great I would definitely go back.The pools are amazing and they are mini pools to enjoy food was very good,The sports bar was very nice had a casino great drinks in there and free Wi-Fi I read a lot of reviews were people say to upgrade to the VIP we did not upgrade to the VIP and it was great we didn’t feel any different than others

AMAZING RESORT

The hotel was very clean. The resort is massive, so much to do. Never a dull moment. Staff is very friendly. I’d go back in a heart beat. Loved the food. Restaurants are amazing, so much to choose from. I had a blast

Big Resort

This is a resort made up of older and newer buildings. Get ready for a lot of up hill walking although there are shuttles. We had an ocean view room which was very nice compared to what we were told about some of the other rooms. In regards to the main buffet restaurant it is quite the uphill walk to get to. So take this into account with children and mobility issues. The staff were very friendly and the food was quit good. lots of areas where some people can go and some can't. There are differe [... read more]nt levels of VIP wrist bands - again our wrist band allowed us into one area but it was a bit of a walk to get to. These VIP areas give you complimentary WIF and better food and drink choices. But you are packed in like sardines in a very small area. There are beds in these portions of the beach but you need to get there early. The first day we arrived the beach was very dirty but it got better as the week went on. Be careful of the offer to show you around the resort on a VIP tour. It's actually a 'timeshare' tour. Has some very good things to offer you if you are looking to invest. I don't think we will return.

NOT WHAT WE EXPECTED

Misleading description as one doesn’t have access to everything that is listed for Cofresi. Unless you want to become a VIP member that is. To do so, that requires the purchase of a time share. Most workers are lazy. The resort is messy and dirty. Empty cups, half full cups with cigarette butts, unwiped tables in the common areas. All this in the morning from the night before. It seemed they scrubbed the stairs with a bucket of soapy water at a time when people would be using them to go for  [... read more]breakfast. There we always puddles from either rain or a spray hose. Palm leaves that have fallen are not picked up. The grounds are not nice. Workers just walk past the above mentioned things. We’ve never seen this before at other resorts. The smell of sewer is prevalent as a PVC sewer pipe runs in a large trench right through the resort. Not sure if there is a leak in it or what but it was gross.It is not somewhere that we’ll be back.This certainly is not a 4 star, at best, 3 maybe and that is being generous.

Would not return to this hotel

It’s okay

The resort on the hold was OK there was a lot of stairs and a very narrow area that was not VIP. I don’t think will ever visit that again porta Plata was nice but that resort I would look for a different one the people were nice the servers were very very good just too many stairs

Love Cofressi Palm!

I was quite skeptical about Cofressi after reading some bad reviews, but I was super impressed! Check in was easy and the staff were pretty friendly. I liked our room, it was good sized, clean and had a huge balcony with Muskoka chairs. The air conditioning worked great and the bed was decent. The grounds are amazing! Very beautiful. So many pools and bars. Eveything kept very clean. The staff at the bars were so friendly and danced alot to get you having a good time. The food was surprisingly g [... read more]ood and no shortage of it! Lots of different options. Lots of activties and the shows every night were good. The only things i didn't like was the fact there are a million stairs and there on septic so it can get pretty stinky! The beach isn't great, no sandy areas, the water comes up super high and they should rake the beach more often.
