Amazing beach and good service

Great beach with good equipment available for rental (snorkeling, paddle boats, kayaks, katamaran with a guide), good buffet...hotel being partly renovated, so there's a bit of construction here and there and not many guests. Good service, but some Spanish helps to smooth the way.

Great Resort!

This was my third time in Varadero and my favourite hotel I've stayed at. The staff is amazing, so friendly and kind. The rooms are updated and beautiful...very clean. For Cuba standards, the food is good-lacking in variety but there was always something tasty that I went back to the buffet to grab a second time. The value for the resort is also incredible, the water sport inclusions were so fun, highly recommend the catamaran ride. Quiet resort

This hotel is well kept. The rooms, resort grounds. Beaches are lovely. The food was not great. There was no chicken and not many veggies salad was available one day. Staff were very friendly. We had not hot water until our last day. They also did not have our reservation when we arrived. However they did upgrade us to an ocean view.

Awesome.

The resort was undergoing reno's so we only had the beach club area, but what a place! Everything was close, everyone was amazing. Our room was the best one in the complex, I'm sure it had the best view. I want to go back for Christmas!

Beach was beautiful

We stayed in the main hotel. It is pretty run down needs some major tlc. Our air conditioning did work and we had hot water the whole time. Which apparently has been an issue with other travelers. The buffet was ok. You could always find something to eat. The snack bars offered hot dogs/ hamburgers/ fries. They said they offered pizza but the three times we asked for it they said they were out. The week we stayed apparently was their local march break so the resort was full of locals. We saw two [... read more] shows. The first was ok depiction of the history of how Cuba was founded. The second show was mortifying. My eleven year old was in the audience and one skit depicted a cheating woman with an angry husband, the rest was the staff of the hotel doing a bunch of very confusing actions. They could use a lot more staff to keep the grounds/ pool/ hotel clean. There were always empty cups and cigarette butts all over the pool area and on the beach. The beach club is a hidden gem where the rooms are new and the pool bar is great. Only one a la carte was offered and we were promised 3. The price was very cheap so I knew going there to not expect too much. The resor is shutting down at the end of the season for some much needed renovations. I would not go back unless all of the issues were resolved.

This resort should be shut down

After our trip to the Allegro I have sworn off Cuba altogether. The hotel was in disrepair. The roof in the lobby was leaking, the rooms were dirty. When it rain one of the people traveling with us ended up with large amounts of water in their room. The dining room was dark and dirty. Even the locals laughed when we told them where we were staying and asked how the food was..............

Our side was great

There was not a lot of Canadians when we arrived, but later in the week more came. Lots of Europeans... The beach club rooms where beautiful. Clean, recently renovated, awesome views, beautiful pool, beach and grounds. The staff was for the most part great! Friendly & helpful! The food was standard Cuban fare...always lots of yummy salads and pastas so that works for me :0)

Good Value and Pleasant Resort

I loved the experience here. The resort was older but well kept. The staff pleasant and very helpful for a woman travelling alone. As always the food was sufficient and much the same. But that is Cuba. The stand alone restauants were excellent and the staff helpful. I had the best tour of Havan with a tour guide arranged by the hotel. Thanks

Good Resort

Overall, i enjoyed my stay here at this hotel, there were a few things that could improve that i noticed. The public washrooms weren't always clean or stocked with toilet paper. I found the resort was too busy and needed more staff. The buffet repeated a lot of the same foods. The ice cream parlour was yummy. In my room, my mini-fridge didn't work and i had called 4 times in 3 days and they kept saying they would send someone to fix it and they never did so i just gave up. I loved my view from my room on the beach club area.

Great Time

I paid just under 1000CAD$ for the 8 day 7 night trip. The staff was extremely friendly (even though my money was locked into a broken safe for 2 days, meaning they received no tips from me until later on). When I finally went to the desk for the malfunctioning safe, there was an attendant at my door in under 10 minutes! PROS: Food is good if you are adventurous! - tons of home made sausages, freshly cooked fish and local veggie/potato dishes. However if you are picky or want only mac and chees [... read more]e and burgers, this is not the option for you. (there are 2 buffets, one is always open the other seems to have a pickier schedule and was not always open for breakfast, the one located farther away is much better and almost seemed to be a resort secret as it is hidden away with the a la cartes. Beach - gorgeous, volleyball court, tons of chairs and shady spots, bar was about 150m away with a nice shaded seating area. Always someone on staff during the day, very friendly will get to know you (especially if you bring them a cold beer shhh!). Activities - catamaran 20 pesos, to go swimming with fish for 2 hours, photographer on site, small groups equip included. flexible times. tons of pedal boats and kayaks if you're feeling independent. - Security guards will call a cab for you at the front. - Representatives on site for excursions/restaurant reservations etc. every day - Spa was lovely and clean (went for massages) - Baggage room was conveniently located by the desk, locked. - Great mix of people, adults, seniors, young people, families, couples, groups, etc. CONS: Rooms were quite damp so we blasted the AC to feel comfortable. I know 2 people who asked to be moved higher to fix this problem and it was no trouble, they were moved to the 5th floor that day. Only one indoor bar (lobby bar) - this bar was usually pretty packed as it was little and the service was not particularly speedy but tolerable if you chatted with the barista ladies. However there was a day of bad weather and it was unbearable/ridiculous since it wasn't meant to accommodate large numbers (they did bring in two extra staff members almost immediately though). Bus shuttle to airport was very late. Only one location served snacks 24 hours and the menu was limited.

Not amazing

Found everything poorly done Staff didn't do what needed to be done best people where the bar tenders . Rooms sucked and food but ocean view nice very poor maintance for ground area near exits No activities for the guest for during ge day best time would be in town in Varadaro

Would not go back again

Went with a large group of family, 11 of us. My girlfriend and I were the only ones with a decent room. Others had no water, no working toilet, the list goes on. Poor service. Locals were getting served before us even though they would come after. Ended up leaving - the buffet had absolutely no labels on anything. Paid extra for the upgrade - no bottle of rum. Swimming with the dolphins the Cubans DEMANDED to "tip" a minimum of 10 pesos per person which is unacceptable. Would never go back to Cu [... read more]ba again. 3 times is enough. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Good Resort

The service when we first got there was not very good, but it was way better the following day and rest of the week. Beaches are amazing. Food is not good but no one can go to Cuba expecting any good food. You need to really go for a walk around the resort when you get there because there is a lot there it's just a matter of finding it.

Disappointed

- We did not have hot water at all while at the resort. From Day 1 to Day 4, we had cold water only in our room, Day 4 we had about 3 minutes of lukewarm water. Day 7 we had warm water only. We went to the desk daily and they kept saying they would send someone to repair. At one point, we were informed the entire hotel had no hot water. - The room was full of mildew and on day 3, my Asthma made me very ill as I am allergic to mould and mildew. We could not turn on the Air conditioning as the system was blowing nasty air into our room. I had to take my ventolin puffer more than 10 times per day as I coughed and gasped almost my entire trip. We could not do excursions after day 4 as I was too ill to attempt any physical activity. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!!! - The safe did not work until the second day so we had to carry our valuables with us all the time as the technician could not repair on our first day. - I expected 4 A la carte restaurant on site. They only have one A la carte available per day and if you don't book in before 9 am, the 24 seatings for the entire resort is booked. If I had known this, I would NOT have booked at this hotel. I was expecting the 4 star rating hotel I booked. - The cleaning staff were pleasant as were the bar staff. The counter staff are not helpful and shrug people off in a rude manner. - Towels were lacking and I could not rent a towel as there were none available for the first 2 days of my visit. - The public bathrooms were filthy and damaged. Sinks and toilets were only at 50% usage capacity. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!

Great location

Beach, pools, interior and exterior garden, great, friendly staff ( tips needed), old but clean rooms, good cocktails, bland and not so fresh food, nice deserts. If you go for luxury, not for you, but nice for enjoying nature.

Nice

The hotel it's self was terrible. The room had roaches, the toilet leaked all week, and I had to body check the door to get into the room all week. The public bathrooms had no toilet seats in the stalls either. I thought the grounds were nice and most of the staff seemed ok. Not looking to ever book at that resort again. This was my first ever trip and it was disappointing.

Save your money and go Else where !!!

Rooms are rough, no hot water 4 days, bad lighting in room, no lights on our floor in hall, patio doors not opening. Had to slam our room entrance door to close, which decoded the card reader or displaced battery several times. requiring maintenance. No Map- requested a map or paper advising where and hours of dining, bars, snack bar disco etc were and told the did not have any. So for 3 days you hunt to find where they are and hope you get there when they are open too. Grounds are average, pret [... read more]ty plain and needed some TLC. Public washrooms had no toilet paper for days, cleaning staff came with out any supplies. Many toilets without seats in various bathrooms. Dining- advertise 8 restaurants- There was only one buffet open and one a la carte with only the buffet open on new years eve (food was good that day, but stood in line forever to get a table- which we had made a reservation for). Otherwise food average with no signage as to what they were made with what they may be. 24 hour snack bar was closed 3 times when we went for a hamburger, which was the only snack offered every day. If you could get one, as they were all out once too when we had requested burgers. Bars ran out of dark rum and beer 3 days which we went to 4 bars looking. Service - reception did what they could to appease us which wasn't much. In the buffet the service is horrible (we felt this was due to lack of training or management guidance) Setting Places were not reset with silverware and in asking it took a long time to received them if at all from the staff. Got to walking around grabbing silverware and then going to the buffet to be sure we could eat. Breakfast could not get a cup of coffee or tea with out walking over to a server which sometimes they came back. No coffee or tea service offered at lunch or dinner . No service of any kind of a beverage at lunch and dinner EG: Wine, beer or even pop or water. Ad stated Cocktail upon arrival, bottle of rum in room, priority reservations and late check out. NONE of these happened. Pushed for hospitality room and was told to go to the gym on the last day. Only 6 of us checking out that day and to get on the bus, there were no towels and the only water that came from shower was scalding hot- turn the lever and no cold . P.S. we have traveled over 12 times to the islands and never written a bad review .The excuse "It's Cuba" ... well not again I'll tell you that for sure. We have been to cuba 3 other times and do acknowledge there will be different food and lesser accommodations, but this was NOT acceptable. The only thing that was positive was the beach and the weather, which this hotel had nothing to do with. Totally dismayed with it all, which made it not enjoyable or a vacation and then causing argumentative situations between my husband and I too. Nothing more than a loss of money in our opinion.

Had its goods and bads

This resort has seen its better days. Very dark halls and stairways. They seemed to stretch out light bulbs as they burn out, bring a flashlight and bug spay. Food was decent. The beach was great with interesting rocks at each end to seclude it from the other resorts in that area.

No hot water resort

everything was fine ,but we left because no hot water for four days,the room was good .the service was good,the swimming pool was great,night entertainment was very good,the hotel was very clean everywhere.

OK

Example: What did you think about  this hotel? (grounds, public areas, rooms, dining, features, etc.) Hotel was getting worn down. Grounds were attractive but the beaches were outstandingly beautiful. Rooms on a scale of 1-10 was at best a 4. Dining was nice, but became old hat after 3 days. Entertainment was alright. Housekeeping, Dining room staff could not do enough for you.
