Not what it used to be

No buffet on the resort sucked.ate at coba or tulum because the buffet that was replacing akumal was so small and no varity room was very small for a family of 4 barely any entertainment. Tulum resort was pumping. So we paid alot of money to stay at akumal but was at Tulum pretty much our entire trip.

Bahia Principe Akumal

The staff are great, the a la cartes fabulous. Reduced buffet due to renos - not nearly as good as past visits. The room was in a state of disrepair, lights not working ripped door screen, etc. Renos are underway, but basics should still be kept up in the meantime. Booked 6 months ahead, but we were not told of renos until shortly before departure. All bars ran out of tequila, only cheap no-name white tequila was available, or sometimes no tequila at all. No tequila in Mexico? Ran out of other  [... read more]liquors as well. Groundskeeping and cleanliness were good. Have been going to Bahia Akumal since 2002, but we were disappointed this time

Excellent service

It was a clean and nice place. Fun and good activities for kids Had lots goof service all over Hotel and rooms were clean I would recommend this resort people to visit and try. Enjoyed alot and had fun

Bahia Akumel

Loved the resort. Very big. Only downfall was the main Buffet building was under renovations. It’s a pain having to take the trolley to Tulum or Coba for grand buffet meals. Stayed in the adults only section. The beach there is small and every day the workers spent hours cleaning up the seaweed.

Not expected

As a frequent visitor of Bahia Principe Akumal, I was surprised to see the decline in the villas (housekeeping, repairs, etc.) but I guess that would be attributed to the on-going renovations. I unfortunately was not prepared for this scenario. Several days I had to call for towels, bath gel, hand soap and tissues. As for the pool areas, it was equally disappointing as most of the umbrellas were broken or some other style very difficult to assemble, in any case there were not enough to go arou [... read more]nd, my husband and I took a lunch break only to return without an umbrella, someone had taken it off our stand. The pool was cloudy and not refreshing. Pool bar did not have enough glasses or various drinks.

Excellent Service - Resort Needs Work

I will state that the service at this resort was 2nd to none - the people were incredible which made the holiday what it was. The grounds, the selection, the pools, the beaches and bars all fantastic. The issue I had with this resort was with the rooms and some of the food offerings. The rooms are tired and that is being polite - cracked floor tiles - furniture from the 70's and a mini fridge that held next to nothing. In addition, extremely good air conditioning (even when on low) but n [... read more]o extra blankets to be comfortable at night. The hot water was great but the water pressure was extremely poor. The bed was comfortable but the sheets were old and stained. I will however state that the cleaning attendant was just amazing and made up for some of these downfalls. OK - the food - its all inclusive and is bound to get repetitive and I can deal with that however certain foods are meant to be hot and not served at room temp. This happened quite a bit and I would also warn people that some of the pay for options did not pan out either. I spent over $40 USD for a lobster and well all I can say - DONT - was extremely small and again room temp in some kinda gross butter substance. Anyhow - I had a great week - Air Canada was spot on except for the private transfer to the hotel - that was delayed 1 hour but both flights and luggage retrieval was great. The hotel gets a BIG YES for its people and its service and how clean and manicured it was - and gets a just OK for the rooms and some of the meal offerings. I would recommend this hotel for the people and the service but it needs some work R

Excellent Resort

We stayed at this same location in 2020 prior to covid and it was amazing! The resort food was excellent once again this year but starting to see it needs a bit of tender care in the bedrooms. Nothing really bad but some simple repairs. I definitely would go again, so that says it all!

Beautiful Resort

This hotel is one of the best I've been to. The room was clean and grounds kept immaculate. When it came to dining there was lots to choose from and the restaurants were excellent. Travelled with my daughter's family with two young children and there was a great assortment of food for them to eat. Their Kids Club is great...the ladies running it are patient and great with the children. Every night they performed plays with the children in their care for that day in the theatre. ( Moana, Froz [... read more]en etc.) Entertainment at the pool each day was also very good! The only draw back is the long bus drive to the resort. I would definitely go back.

Great Resort.

Everything was good except for the washroom of our room, the flush was broken we have to complain 3 times but not fixed completely and the Bathroom Exhaust Fan was also not working all 5 days after the shower it was completely foggy. Relaxing Tropical Vacation

We are just back from our vacation week at Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal in Riviera Maya. It was a relaxing and refreshing week we all needed badly after a long time of pandemic and sad winters. PROS. We were amazed by the wildlife in the resort: pelicans hunting right at the beach, fish, nasuas, and many birds and lizards. We also visited seafood and French cuisine restaurants, and both had interesting choices. All resort areas, including the pool, spa, and gym are maintained well and clean. The gym is small, but we found enough ways to have a good workout. The staff is also offering Zumba. I was amazed by the landscaping design - all the greenery is gorgeous and well-maintained. The room we got was spacious, with a beautiful ocean view, with a king-size bed. And our teen got a couch bed (he did not complain). CONS. The bathroom needs some renovations. We also ran out of bath gel on the 2nd day, and could not get the refill, the cleaning lady permanently forgot to refill it, even after we left notes for her, supported by some more material hints. We had to use shampoo instead, which is okay for a scout camp, not a 5-star hotel. They offer Zumba classes with very loud music not only in the pool but also at the beach, right in the water, where they have the remains of the coral reef. I believe it is not good for the wildlife, and not good for the people who want to relax at the beach and enjoy the natural environment.

Great spot

The rooms are tired, the beds are way too small if you don't get a king. The food was really, really good! Everything was clean, the pool areas well kept. The villas are well spaced, so you have to be okay to walk, although the trolleys come regularly. Overall, I would recommend this resort.

Beautiful

Staff was helpful, room was small, but cleaned well. Buffet was decent, a-la carte restaurants were amazing! Drinks flowed strong and yummy. We had a fantastic time. Only thing I'd change is activities are not posted resort to resort so we missed out on some of the fun stuff and there is a shopping area we did not know about until just before we left. But other than that, it was awesome!!

Amazing resort.

This a very large resort. We were oceanfront in building 68. We were next to the adults only pool and breakfast buffet. We were here for 14 nights and had a different a la carte restaurant dinner every night at all 4 resorts. When you download the Bahia Principe app you can make all your reservations. There is a shuttle service every few minutes to get you around. It is very clean and housekeeping comes everyday. The bathroom has pump bottles of shampoo, conditioner, bath gel and Shea butter lo [... read more]tion. Plus a hair dryer. Bring a extension cord as there are not many outlets for charging devices. Bring water shoes as there are some rocks when getting in the ocean, also a snorkel and mask to see all the fish. It is a great resort and is worth the 1 1/2 hour drive to get there. We will definitely be back.

Nice place

We recently spent 9 days at this resort and had a great holiday. The resort was beautiful and the staff were exemplary. I hope this review is helpful to anyone else considering a vacation at the Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal. Beach: The sand was a little rough and not comfortable to walk on with bare feet. There were hard-packed stretches of sand that were comfortable, as most of the sandy areas were quite deep. If you're looking to spend a lot of time at the beach on your vacation, Cozumel's sand/water is a lot friendlier. Pools: The pools were great...lots of pools to choose from, and very clean with lots of room to swim/float around. Swim-up bar is a little small for a resort of this size. Infiniti pool is beautiful, but water was really cold - much moreso than the other pools. Service: All of the staff were fantastic at this resort. Lots of staff available, and everyone was happy to answer any questions. Servers in restaurants were particularly friendly and attentive, and confirmed how much the Mexican people are the most hospitable in the world. Food: We ate at the buffet for breakfast and lunch, and occasionally for dinner, and we enjoyed it every time. Tables were always clean, and the food itself was nicely displayed. Most food tasted great at the buffet, although it was often a little on the cool side. The a la carte restaurants offered excellent food (especially the steak house) and fantastic service, as well as beautiful presentation of the food and great drinks. Rooms: Our room was large and comfortable, and we made good use of the balcony. The mini-fridge was stocked with water, beer and chips every day. Housekeeping was a little inconsistent. Some days, the room hadn't been cleaned by 3pm (when we returned from pool for a siesta), so we went without housekeeping on those days. Bathroom had rainfall showerhead and a glass half-door - not my favourite, but there was lots of space around the sink for our toiletries. Value: Although we had a fabulous time at this resort, I feel it was a bit overpriced. We stayed at a much more affordable resort in Cabo last year and that resort's room/food/amenities were just a little better. I wouldn't call this resort "luxury" although it is very nice. There were a few spots where repairs were visible and poorly done (in the shower, for example). I would stay here again if the price was lower, but wouldn't pay what we paid for this resort again. Location: Beautiful waterfront location and lots of lovely views. It's about 90 min from Cancun airport and an hour from Playa del Carmen. Excursions seem to run out of Playa, which made for some long days with the bus ride and picking up/dropping off at other resorts along the way. Other notes: I loved the design of this resort and thought it was well-planned. For example, the rooms are in small apartment complexes that are located away from the pools and common areas that can be noisy. They're also positioned so that from your balcony, you aren't facing anyone else on their balcony - nice for privacy. In front of the lobby, there are 3 levels for golf carts, buses, taxis to pick up and drop off - 1 for on-resort transportation (golf carts), 1 for transportation to other connected resorts, and 1 for outside resort. Smart, and very effective at keeping congestion to a minimum out front. Golf carts are everywhere and it's easy and comfortable to hop on/off without ever having to wait more than a few minutes. There's a central shopping area on the grounds (Hacienda) that has some bars and lots of places to buy souvenirs. Good selection of products, although a little pricey, as expected. The flooring throughout most of the resort is smooth tile. It looks really nice, but is very slippery, and we almost wiped out several times. It's a problem around the pools, mostly, where the tiles are wet, and also on stairs and ramps. I hope they replace this flooring with something more suitable around the pools, and across the entire resort. After a rainfall, just walking through the lobby in everyday flip flops was treacherous. HOWEVER, although I've brought up some less than favourable points, this is a lovely resort where we had a wonderful holiday, and I'm sure anyone who visits here will have a lovely holiday too. I hope this long-winded review is helpful!

Akumal Luxury

We stayed at villa 56 and it was in need of an upgrade. It was very clean and beds were comfortable but disappointed that there was only two tv stations in English as we liked in the evening to watch some tv

Great resort

The resort was nice , very clean . The rooms very dated ,, and certainly not 5 star quality , and the walls seemed paper thin . we heard everything from people being sick, to curtains closing . service was excellent , great hard working staff . The Tropical drinks were too sweet , very syrupy . and watered down , you're a 5 star resort use real fruit in those drinks . The food was good in the buffet , and excellent in the specialty restaurants

Good resort

don’t think it’s keeping standard for a 5 stars. needs update definitly need to be aware of the 3 hour bus ride with our arrival late no major welcome. one bellboy to guide us toward our room. no map tv didn’t work well in room bar has 2 beers and pop only would recommend possibly small wine glasses and wine if spirits can’t be added akumal beach great. clean. snorkeling good despite many zone blocked. staff all professional and efficient food in buffet good and well pr [... read more]esented but would run out of certain items quickly great shuttle service between 4 resort

Amazing resort with fabulous staff!

We loved everything about this property and would highly recommend it to couples, families, and friends. Being able to eat at a specialty restaurant every night instead of the buffet was wonderful. It was also great to be able to visit and use all amenities at the other Bahia properties in the complex during our stay. The various beaches, pools, entertainment, and staff made this one of our top vacations ever. Can’t wait to return!

Everything we expected and more
