beds are terrible, food was ok, beach is beautiful and Cuban people are always kind and friendly! the only thing I would say is they need new mattresses, springs were popping in our backs. they did switch our room after 2 days but the beds weren't any better

Decent Resort

The resort was beautiful, clean, and had nice architecture. My biggest complaint was that they were always running out of food and drink items. Some of the staff were incredibly friendly and hard working but others were rude and lazy. The rooms were cleaned and stocked consistently and the front desk was always willing to answer any questions we had. Overall, I think it was good but they were definitely lacking in certain areas. Great Experience

The hotel was very clean. Food was great, room was clean (although one cockroach did seem to make his way in at one point). My only complaint was the tourists that brought their big bubba keg drink coolers that were filling them like what seemed to be every 10min that held up the others from getting drinks. The entertainment was very well done and they offered dance and yoga classes during the days. I would highly recommend this resort.

Beautiful Resort!

Gorgeous resort! great layout - everything is easy to find and access. Staff is very pleasant, even the reception desk which usually are not very friendly. Amazing beach! Resort could use some updating - safe required service (would not lock), front door required service (lock broken), patio door (would not lock). we called the front desk and all were resolved within 20 minutes.

Fabulous Staff

Have been to this hotel a couple of times over the years. But a few years ago I wrote that I wouldn’t go back. The food was awful even for Cuba. But we made some wonderful friends there and we decided to try the resort again. It was mainly because of the food that we didn’t want to go back. The cleaning staff, entertainment, managers, gardeners. The staff could not do enough for us. The rooms are nice and big, just not enough lighting, beds are very comfortable, some of the rooms are a bit dated, but bed, and bathroom is clean. Going into Varadero the hop on hop off bus is directly outside the hotel. It comes every 15 minutes and costs $5.00 for the whole day. The entertainment in the evening was excellent. They had a different theme every night. We only did one of the 3 alcarte restaurants. It was the Romantica it was very good. The beach was great and the entertainment staff had a lot of people participate. The Pool area was nice, But they don’t have a swim up bar. We are now planning to go back again next year to the same hotel. Can’t wait!

Iberostar Let Down !

Friends relaxing

This was my 14th time to cuba. This was best hotel i have stayed at Grounds great. Room great pool. Ocean. Entertainment best i have seen. In Cuba. Different every day. Food well can always find something to eat it is Cuba and they do the best with what they have. Would recommend this resort. Had great time Staff fantastic. Good value for the price!

Very nice resort, friendly service at the front desk, rooms were fine, cleaned later in the day not in the morning but good job, buffet restaurant great service and very good food, enjoyed morning fresh fruit juices, bakes fantastic, good selection of items. Romantico restaurant I would suggest some music in the background (perhaps romantic music) food just ok, Italian food was good but the best a la carte turned out to be Caribbean restaurant. Beach activities great! the team is very good. Entertainment at night very enjoyable, great team of professional dancers and singers. Sort of good

1) Rooms are average. 2) Beaches are fine. 3) Food is So - So 4) Communication between front desk staff and room staff - Very Poor. 5) Lights at night in the walk way are Very poor. Amazing Resort

This resort is very good, excellent people and the food is very good. The resort is only for adults I like because it’s more private. Everyone see you like a family. And the beach is clean and clearly and the people who are the entertainment like Suly, Jessica, Guisell, Joná and everybody are very nice.

Sleeping beauty? No, sleeping duty!

We've just back from the resort. Spent 10 days there with our friends. It was our 11th visit to Cuba, and 6th in Varadero. We choose Iberostar because the name, and very positive experience from our previous stays. At this time resort was filled for 40-50%. Half of premises were closed. On bright side, we had a plenty of sunbeds on the beach, at any time. About Iberostar Playa Alameda. It use to be as great resort. Now it looks dying. 60% of outside lighting are off. Working lights i [... read more]n dining hall and bars are dim and depressive. I've seen a numerous signs of improper maintenance: fallen light bollard with exposed wires, broken switches, unprotected pits beside walkway, uncleaned beach, uncleaned pool floor... We occupied the building #17. On the second day, the glass sliding door in shower cabin slipped down when I was trying to close it. I was able to catch it and put back. Next day the door fell down and broke on hundreds of sharp pieces when my wife was taking shower. Fortunately, no major injures. Reaction from resort? They just changed door, and hung it on the same unsafe way! I'm not a picky person. I would forgive some imperfections, especially on Cuban soil... What really irritates me is the amount and repetitiveness of those little problems. Every day (yes, everyday) as we return from the beach, we had to call to reception. The reasons may vary: could be uncleaned room, or lack of soap/shampoo or toilet paper, insufficient or ripped towels... Two times they made the bed with the same linens. But, what is most annoying is the mini-bar. And I'm not talking about beer. The water! Everyone knows that tap water is no-no, only bottled one is drinkable. But, this was the first resort when we need to fight for any bottle! You can not find it anywhere. Neither at lobby nor in the bar. We had to call to reception 3-4 times and only listen to their promises. Finally, I solved the problem, when start buying water from some service person. Can anyone imagine that? We are back and we are happy. The ocean was great, rain was falling mainly on nights, and we had a good time with our friends. And we lost weight, too! Because the food was eatable only two times per week.

Great resort

Had a great time at Playa Alameda, clean and quiet, perfect for couples. The food is not that great. Service was great people are very friendly. Great place to visit. There where lots of bugs in the room at night.

Let's see I've been to many different resorts in Cuba and this one stands out,everything was really good ,food ,entertainment,staff,wonderful beach and great service they really work hard to enhance your vacation experience.I would return.

Needs Attention to detail and updates

Adequate and fair value for the money we spent. The resort lacks attention to detail. Rooms were extremely musty and humid. Found a HUGE BUG beside the bed. Balcony chairs and beach chairs were horrible.

Magnificent Resort!!

This resort was everything I was expecting and more! The rooms were tidy and clean. The service was excellent, everyone was extremely nice and polite. The pool and area had lots of room. The beach was absolutely perfect. No hard rocks within the sand or water. The food was different but most was good, definitely cool to see and try what other people eat. The entertainment was the absolute BEST!!! I would definitely love to go again soon!

Amazing guest service but eh overall

We had a 7 days stay at this resort, the guest service and staff was excellent but the overall resort experience was not up to standard and I wish they would not rate this resort as a 5 star it was more like a 3.5 star. In the rooms the sheets had a bad smell to them and if the 2 beach/pool towels weren't returned you were charged 15 cuc each towel, and there wasn't free wifi you had to buy internet cards for 1 cuc for 1 hour and it only worked in the lobby or pool side. Great Spot

The resort was very well maintained . Grounds were well looked after, public areas were very clean . Room was huge, was cleaned every day and our mini fridge was stocked when required. Beach and pool areas were excellent, always had shade no matter what time of the day. Staff were very friendly and always helpful . Food was ok, a bit of a disappointment however we always found enough to eat. .. All in all it was a great trip .

Terrible Experience

Room was moldy and constantly damp. Bed was wet and there was cockroaches. (have videos). Couldn't get fresh towels daily as used ones NEVER dried. Had an male employee coming to our room trying to get us to give him money and acting very creepy. The rest of the staff was pleasant though. They would not change some of my money (large bills) as there was a slight slice (clean and unnoticeable) but did not hesitate to give me their torn paper money. The one good experience was the meals, though everyone I spoke to said it was terrible in CUBA. Never making that mistake again. I work too hard to be wasting my money.

Great resort

Rooms okay; beds comfy. Sadly no bathroom door; we had a shower curtain on it but hey it didn’t ruin our holiday. Grounds in good condition- rarely saw a gardener on the grounds. No one was bugging us. A few unruly drunk guests (early twenties) Sand beautiful and pool was quite. Always found something to eat; I’d go back if the price was right.

Average resort

The grounds of this resort were very well maintained. The rooms and lobby are dated and could use some upgrades. Do not choose a ground floor room as they can be extremely damp and have a strong smell of mould. We were on second floor of building 19 and the room was fine. For the most part the staff is friendly but this is not alway the case. Tipping goes a long way. The trick is to tip in order to get better service. The food is ok but VERY repetitive.
