Not a 5 star!

We have been to Senator previously and were disappointed this visit. The pool was very dirty and debris was constantly underfoot. Even poolside, many cups etc not picked up regularly. The food was justok, but service in dining room was hit and miss. You had to chase staff for spoons and coffee cups & coffee. The alacartes and the pizza in the boulevard were the saving grace. Our room was a bit musty smelling and took 2 days for air conditioning to feel effective.

Senator Resort and Spa

Air Conditioning in room not working well to keep up with heat - 39 degrees humidity and rooms are hot. Buffet area needs perfectly working AC in this kind of heat. It would be great if they Do not open Buffet room door rather keep them shut n turn up the AC Disco/Club was closed for renovation entire trip Walking back and forth to and from villa which was very far from pool/buffet was extremely hot. Excelent resort

The resort is quite nice, the grounds and the tropical vegetation is awesome. The beach was very pretty and have nice surrounding trees and palm trees. There was no seaweed. The service was good, the amenities were good, particularly the sports bar and the the gym. The buffet and a la carte restaurants were pretty good. Animation team and recreation activities including the evening shows were fun. Have a great time

Staff needs customer Service Training

Senator staff are unfriendly, not helpful and pretend not to speak english so they don’t have to help their guests Issues: 1. They don’t even greet you upon check in 2. Housekeeping removed bath towels and do not replace them. I brought the issue several time to guests services and reception but they just give you a blank state 3. Toilet not flushing 4. Even in line ups, if the last last person who arrive is LOCAL- that person is going to get serve first

Quiet and Intimate

Hotel was beautiful, clean and safe. Food was not great and entertainment was lacking! Very small and intimate. Resort goes quiet after 8 pm .. pools also close early. Not many a la carte options available

Average resort

We were a group of 17 it was a small resort, so it had easy access to most of everything, including the beach. The workers were very friendly and accommodating our swim up pool bartender, Louis was fantastic and knew what we were drinking Domingo in the sports bar was outstanding and very accommodating With our ability to watch hockey games, animation, team, we really enjoyed skinny boy, cappuccino, and monkey black. Reservations, for the 17 of us was actually quick and easy housekeeping always kept our room clean every day. We had no issues with towels or water . Now the cons the rooms were very musty and dated the air conditioning was poor. The pool was very noisy (music) in the morning with relatively no escape the beach was not user-friendly the food was average the bottom of the pool we kept picking pieces of it and throwing it outside the pool, the ocean water was very rocky so water shoes is recommended and be very cautious of sea urchins make sure you have insurance the weather was perfect and we had a really good time thanks to the staff mentioned above

Mixed feeling about this resort

Nice small resort but it is extremely crowded all the times. Maybe because of its contemporary looks at the front desk which attracting tourists. People occupied lounge chairs at the pools & at the beach as early as 7am and virtually you can't get any spots at anytime. Food is good and lots of varieties to choose from and there were always something new at buffet during our 7 day trip. Waiters & waitresses are friendly. You can try Japanese & Steakhouse À la carte but not Italian as food were not much different from the buffet. My room was clean but the very last day the a/c was out of order & we needed to switch to another room (just lucky enough the front desk found one). How they clean the room is kind of complicated. Around 10am the housekeeper collects the used towels. Then at some other time he/she cleans the room. Then some other staffs will fill up the fridge with bottle waters & pops. Finally the housekeeper returns the clean towels around 5pm. I think it's better if everything is done at the same time. The outdoor theatre was nice and shows were good. A bonus is a nice trial on the hill side which you can see the cruise ships docking and leaving from AmberCove. It took one and half hour to the airport as we went through lots of traffic jam (rush hour) in Puerto Plata and some detours. We tipped the coach driver because he needed to drive through a manual coach bus with some difficult terrains. However, I'll choose another resort 20 minutes from POP for my next trip.

The Senator- the good and not so good

We went to the Senator for a 7 day stay. Pick ip at the airport was great, check in was great, room was fine. We asked the bell hop to turn on the a/c he said no a/c just the fan. Room was warm. Settled in had a shower and no hot water. We had cold showers the first 4 days. Our room did cool down from what is was originally, I brought a thermometer so I know it went from 24C down to 21.5. So the a/c does work but you don’t have control over it. All week it bounced from 21.5 -23.5C.No lock for  [... read more]the safe either, was told someone would bring one but that never happened, as I expected it wouldn’t. We had to carry everything with us and watch our bag while in the pool. If you weren’t up by 630 am you were not getting a lounge chair at the beach or the pool. They could easily double the amount of lounge chairs and get 5x the number of umbrellas, theres plenty of room and shade around the pool is almost non existent. Staff is great, very friendly and helpful. They do harass people to attend their welcome breakfast ( that is where they try to sell you a time share) We did not attend and had to avoid the lobby first thing in the morning to not be harassed. Food was good. Variety everyday. I liked that you had so many choices. From bbq on the beach for lunch, the snack bar for burgers and sandwiches to the sports bar for pub food. The buffet was good and varied well. The A La Cartes were good. If they fixed the lounger and shade problems and it was under &1000pp a week I would go back otherwise no.

Could be a great Resort!

Resort had nice rooms but some limited hot water and A/C. Ours was fine. Excellent buffet..lots of seafood, steak, lamb, roast beef and pork. Fresh fruits etc..no shortage of bacon.. only complaint was not enough loungers at beach or pool and this doesn't seem fair since we all paid to be there. Shouldn't have to sit on a towel. Even some plastic stackable adirondack chairs would have worked for me.

Beautiful Resort

We just got back to Winnipeg on April 6/23 and enjoyed 2 weeks at the Senator. Everything there was beautiful and kept sparkling clean because of their incredible staff. The buffet was always filled with very appetizing food and it changed daily. We never had an issue finding a table even thought we were a large group. The staff at the buffet were always there and made our visit very enjoyable. The al a cart restaurants were so good! Best that we have ever experienced. The rooms were kept [... read more] very clean but as in all of the reports that are over 5 yrs old they need some TLC. They tried to fix the towel on the chair problem by putting signs "Towels will be removed after a 1/2" everywhere but no one was keeping track so that didn't work. Also there was a lack of chairs everywhere (other than the buffet) most areas could have had twice the amount of seats especially around the pool. The beach in front is a bit rocky but the public beach by the docks is much better and a lot of fun.

Good

The hotel is very clean the people who work there are very polite the food very good and plenty the only negative points are the missing umbrellas not enough chairs and the outdated furniture in the room No water pressure and problem with the air conditioning

Great time

Grounds are perfect,rooms are clean,staff is excellent especially Skinny,chicken little and Nunez and Juanna on the wait staff,only complaint is that more lounge chairs are needed around the possible and ocean

Ok Resort

We had an older room. Not remodeled.. yucky looking tub, air conditioning barely worked. Actually had air conditioning stop working for a bit but guy got it "fixed". Apparently all rooms were the same for the air conditioning quality. Pool was nice, beach was pretty but small and rocky. Lots of coral to snorkel at the beach. Food was decent. Staff were friendly. I would give a 5/10.

Amazing resort

The resort is great, entertainment was very good, one thing I didn't like is the room service, the first day when we checked in into our rooms, we found opened beverages bottle in the fridge half used, in the second room same thing plus rotten coconut in the fridge, cleaning crew did not leave bottle of water in our rooms sometimes and new toilet paper, we ran out of toilet papers and when we went to the front desk to ask for some, they said we have to wait until the morning for the cleaning lad [... read more]y, we had to search public bathrooms for some at 1 am, coffee mugs in the rooms were wiped clean with the bathroom rags, I had to wash it with shampoo 3 times prior to use every morning, other than that, great place

One week at Senator D.R

Beautiful grounds. Well maintained, Very large resort, a lot of walking. Buffet food was good with lots of variety. Specialty restaurants disappointing. Very few staff spoke English so there was difficulty with communication. Minor issues with A/C and hot water,were resolved quickly. Biggest issue was lack of lounge chairs poolside, even though there was plenty of room for more chairs. Reception was smooth, and staff very helpful. So nice to return to our second home

Each time we visit it is more beautiful than the time before. The grounds are beyond nice. The gardeners and ground maintenance crews have the property manicured. It's hard to pass the lobby area without seeing the ladies cleaning and mopping all the walkways. The food is great with many choices as is the ala cartes, I gained 10 lbs in 10 days. All that being said the reason we keep returning is the wonderful staff (nuestra familia ). Nunez, Robin, Skinny, Chicken Little, Alexander, Wilkie, Loui [... read more]s, Wow I could go on and on. These folks treat us as family and make us feel special. The staff from the maids, the bar staff, the entertainers as well as the resort manager Alejandro always have time for a smile and a hola. Already looking at dates in November and a trip to Santiago to see winter ball.

Good resort

We were there for 2 weeks. No real complaints. We had air conditioning and a ceiling fan and showers were usually warm. The bathrooms are constantly being cleaned and ground maintenance staff work hard to keep everything looking clean and beautiful! The food is great- large buffet with something for everyone! Hard to imagine anyone leaving hungry! Lack of loungers were a bit of an issue- had to be up early to get them but apparently on order waiting to come in .

A beautiful resort!

Our group of six had an amazing time at the Senator Resort and Spa. This was our second trip to the resort and we would definitely like to return. The food was great and we loved the beach, especially when the cruise came and went. Only one rainy day during our thirteen day stay.

Super holiday resort

This resort is one of the cleanest resorts in the public areas. Always cleaning floors etc. Room was perfect and air conditioning and fan worked. Beds are very comfortable. This was our second visit here and will definately be back.

Very nice resort!!

The hotel was very clean and the grounds were well kept. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our television went on the fritz the second night there, next day we had a new one. Food was delicious, we will be returning.
