Great resort!

We have been there for the second time, it was a great experience. Food was ok, great pizza, but a little beat dissapointed because they didn’t have french fries all days. Beach amazing!!! New towels!!! Kids show every night!!!

Big resort

Hotel is in the average of confort with poor social activities, not to mention the Food is very bad with not too much choice nor diversity of cuisine We have to eat the same menu for the whole week ! Fruits are of poor choice, not even orange not even banana

Melia Las Dunas is affordable and fun!

Considering what we paid the Melia Las Dunas exceeded expectations, they always did a wonderful job cleaning our room (shout out to Betty) and the rest of the facilities were always clean and well kept as well.

Beautiful beach, poor service

Room was average, hotel grounds were beautiful. Friendly staff, but poor service. The servers favored the locals, and there seemed to be alot there. Most Canadians we met there felt the same, that the service was poor and the wait for drinks and food were long. We felt like we were begging for service. It was very disappointing. There were alot of shortages - ice, beer, bread, towels, coffee cups (plastic was used for coffee)... Would not return to this resort.

Best Vacation Yet

The beaches are the nicest in the world, the staff are exceptional and appreciate tips, the food was good. Catamaran fantastic! We went in July and really enjoyed our stay! Thanks Melia Las Dunas and thank you Trip Central! Cheers..... With Love Dianne & Mark

Amazing as usual!

This was my 4th time coming back to this resort. I must say, this is my first time coming in june though. This time of year is very hot there and at times is muggy. Other than that, the resort as always is kept very clean at all times and everyone is very polite and welcoming. There is a variety of good food available at all times either at the buffet or other bars on the resort. The bartenders are very good at their jobs, so the drinks dont stop flowing! 3 rd time and still amazing

grounds were beautifully kept. quiet pool and family pool very good. Beach is breathtaking. room was allways made very well. food good..lots of choices. wonderful place and the staff is really what makes it special

OK Resort

Check In went well however had lots of issues with our Toronto departure on Air Transat. We received rooms as requested in a good location close to pool and lobby. Pool, pool bar staff and pool recreation staff were all great. Room had air conditioning issues that were not addressed and fridge was poorly restocked. Food is food in Cuba but their current trade problems are creating some shortages ie no pizza or french fries at any of the snack bars. Buffet was typical, some staff were very good a [... read more]nd some were lazy, general cleanliness could have been better. There was always a shortage of clean glasses and spoons for some reason. Beach buffet with grilled meats was always good and best place to have lunch. A la Cartes were better but not great. Entertainment was the same every night with same dance group, just different costumes. Mojitos at the lobby bar were the best. Sand and water in Cuba are fantastic. Not sure if it was just the weather while we were there but the water was very rough and difficult to swim in especially for children. All in all it was good vacation, beach and long bus ride from airport make this a one off as I wouldn't return here. I've been to Cayo Coco and Varadero and I will certainly return to Varadero the next time in Cuba.

Great Vacation

Very nice resort This was our first trip for my wife and myself to Cuba The weather was wonderful the hotel and the people were very friendly and considerate. The food was good and they tried to offer a nice selection. The room was kept very clean and the mini bar was always stocked. The maids did a very good job. The ride to and from the Resort was a little long but it gave us a chance to see the countryside. We will be returning to Cuba !!

Great resort .. wonderful beach!

Second time in Cuba, first time to Cayo Santa Maria and I was completely mesmerized with the beach and how clear the water was. ABSOLUTELY GOING BACK TO THIS BEACH! The resort was bigger than I thought and we very grateful for the golf carts there to help people get around. The food was good, and we especially loved the Mediterranean a la carte (Columbus). Staff were very pleasant and willing to help. A few things came to mind though: there were no regular patio chairs around the pool area... only the reclining ones. Some people may have difficulty getting down and up from these low chairs, so I think a variety by the pool and beach would help accommodate all ages and physical abilities. The day time entertainers/activity groups were ok... I've had better at other resorts in the sense of games at the pool and their interactions with the clients. The few that did engage in conversation with us were friendly and pleasant. The games at the pool seemed to drag on and if no one participated they staff seem to simply play music with no back up plans or substitute. Overall my daughter and I enjoyed the resort and would go back again!!!

Had a very nice holiday

This was my first time in Santa Maria Cuba.. The resort was very nice, everything was clean and well organized. Our room was located in block 29 which was very well located , close to the buffet, lobby and beach. Our room was on the second floor has requested and very clean. The cleaning lady did an excellent job cleaning and restocking our fridge with water, pop and beer. The beach and ocean was just beautiful. The beach is also very nice to walk on. At night the lobby was a very nice place to go and listen to different band and preformers,really enjoyed the atmosphere of the lobby at night and also the excellent cappuccinos. For the food I have to say it was lacking. There was not mush variety,always the same for every meal, but you could always find something to eat and what they had was good. Really enjoyed my trip and maybe I will return in the future.

Great service & beaches

Beautiful beaches and great service. A few bugs in the room and cleaning could have been done better. It's Cuba so I wasn't expecting much for the food, we survived but left hungry that's for sure. Pool and deck could have been cleaned better, along with dinning areas and lobby. WiFi was poor but we didn't care because we were on vacation.

Great Family Vacation !

Travel dates: April 18-23, 2019 Ages of Travelers: 82,52,21,18,16 Family vacation was great ! The beach is one of the most beautiful powdery white sand beaches we have been too, pools are large and clean. Resort is large so we were able to get on average 6 km of walking in each day walking to and from our room to the beach, restaurants and lobby. Grounds are beautiful. We enjoyed the lobby music at night, the shows and beach party. Staff at the resort are lovely. The only negatives about this resort is the distance from the airport ( 2 hours, but we slept !) and my mother fell in one of the lobby pools as she did not see it..be careful with the pools and steps around the resort ! Overall we all loved the vacation !

Great resort!

This was our 3rd time to Melia Las Dunas. First the positive: the beach is the best! It is kept very clean and the water is so warm! Our maid for the week was a sweet young lady who kept our room spotless. Compliments to ALL the staff, from front desk to restaurant/buffet/bar to gardeners, cleaners and also the bus driver to and from airport. The Air Transat reps/guides were great! The negative: There didn’t seem to be the selection of foods in the buffet as in previous years - but we always found enough to eat. The International beer garden ran out of beer of any kind. The walkway to the beach on the adult side was in rough shape. At night the walkways were not well lit.

Potential for five stars

In mid-April we spent a week at Melia las Dundas. Our seventh trip to Cuba. I must say that the resort has the potential to be a five-star hotel. The grounds are beautiful, very well-kept, green, with lots of shade. The beach is breathtaking, white, powdery sand and turquoise, warm, clean, shallow water. Lots of shade and chairs. The lobby is huge and nice, impressive at night, when everything lights. Its sounds like a wonderland, but it ends here... Lack of clean towels for the beach and rooms, insufficient plates, cutlery and glasses in the buffet restaurant and basic cleanliness in the dining room significantly reduces the hotel quality. I would like the management of the resort to find a way to fix it. With not much of changes in running the place and basic room/furniture renovation the hotel may be luxiourios again. Food is good. We are not going to Cuba for food, especially for hambugers and fries. We love fresh see food, organic, free from chemicals, tasty chicken and seasonal fruits. You'll find everything there, even the fries and poutine. The A la Carte restaurants (have eaten in three) are excellent. Fantastic, friendly Cubans made our stay very pleasant.

Amazing beach!

Hotel is great for families or adults only. Family side had lots of activities and 2 pools. Exactly what I would have wanted if I travelled with small children. The adult side was nice and quiet but not too mellow. It has 2 pools as well. Met and talked to a lot of great people. Had good evening entertainment we were never bored. Beach is absolutely beautiful. There are lifeguards and no charge sailboat rides and paddle boats which is also great for families. Service was great the Cuban people a [... read more]re lovely. Very beautiful resort

The staff was so pleasant very helpful. The beach was amazing. The colour of the water amazing The staff at the pool bar were the best. The pool was kept up very well. The rooms were clean and nice. A lot of hot water. Thank god!! The food was ok. The grill was very good. We ate there for lunch. The omelette and crepes were awesome. I ate that every morning. A thank you goes out to all the hard working people there. One thing I would like say. Please tip the staff Don’t be cheap!!!

Horrible

This hotel is as worse as it gets. Very old and dirty. ALWAYS out of everything. Food, such as fries. Calamari, buns for hot dogs and hamburgers ( which they still actually still serve you the hot dog and hamburgers with NOOOOO BREAD) no utensils left. No plates for cereal, No tables clean to sit down and eat. No towels at the pool. They said every single day that the machine is broken. No nothing. Dirty beach too. Which I was told Cuba has beautiful beaches. Well not here!!!! Sand had piles ove [... read more]r piles of sea weed.they give you only ONE BOTTLE of water in your little fridge for 4 people. And forget about asking for another. You will never get it. I asked for a bed cod for my 3 year old, and they gave me one bed spring box on top of another. I requested the second floor and got the main floor which the room had lots of insects, (really big thick spiders too)I have two kids, so by 5ish they are hungry. The buffet only opens at 7 pm. Ridiculous. At least open it at 6:00. I am extremely disappointed and it was lost vacation time and money. Very sad!!!

Old Friend

Just returned home from my 6th visit to Melia Las Dunas a little teary eyed. Leaving this old friend is never easy. Our room was more than adequate for our needs. We left it by approximately 8:30am each day, returned to change for evening dinner, arrived back by 10pm or so to sleep. This place has no problem keeping two 70 year olds on the go all day long. The main lobby offers a somewhat tranquil spot by day and a fun filled, high energy meeting place at night. The best part? Without a doubt it’s the people that work there. We consider some of them family. Any employee you encounter makes it their mission to make every day a special one for you. My daughter and her family who first introduced us to Melia Las Dunas have been to this resort 26 times. I’d say that plus my review above speaks well for the ongoing commitment to our comfort and satisfaction while staying there. Already planning a return trip for next year.

Honest review: We had an amazing time. The room was dated, but clean, and the cleaning staff was incredible. The food was, well, okay. There was always something to eat at the buffet, though the à la carte restaurants left a lot to be desired. The Columbus was delicious! The poolside bar was great, but be sure to get there in time to claim chairs or you’ll be hard pressed to find some shade. The beach was the same. Get there early. But what a beach!
