Great resort!

This was our second time to the Grand Sunset Princess! This time we stayed in the platinum rooms, which are definitely worth the price! We loved having our own concierge and private pool if we wanted a quiet day by the pool. The staff everywhere across the resort are super friendly and always willing to help. The resort is very clean and the food is pretty decent, although I will say it has decreased in quality since we last visited in 2015. The pools were numerous and there were choices between party pools and quiet pools, but the ocean shore and first 30-40' of water was full of seaweed and smelled awful most days; we didn't even have a chance to swim in it.We had a couple issues with our room (the toilet broke about 4 times during our 2 week stay, and the AC was broken one day), but overall we would still recommend this resort to anyone wanting a great experience in the Riviera Maya!

Robbed while sleeping!

To anyone reading this review, DO NOT! I repeat, DO NOT! Stay at this resort unless you don’t care about your safety and personal belongings. On our first night at this resort, April 21, 2019, while we slept, someone entered our room and robbed me. They stole my cellphone that was charging beside my bed, and all the cash from my purse in front of the TV. This could have gone very differently. What if one of us had awaken while the intruder was in our room? I don't even want to think what co [... read more]uld have happened to us! After a night of horror, wherein the security guards turned our room upside down and searched through our bags pretending to investigate the theft, we were further humiliated and insulted by the head concierge (Octavio), who after receiving their security system report, denied the robbery and accused us of not locking our door. This is incomprehensible to me! There is no doubt in our minds that our door was locked contrary to what the resort wants to say. Anyone who knows me will tell you how safety conscious I am, especially in a new place. Also, the stolen items were not locked in the safe because we were in the room! We only lock our stuff in the safe when we are leaving the room (as it should be). To top it all off, we got the run around for days and absolutely no support from the other parties involved, Carlos (supervisor/head of concierge), Andrea (Sunwing rep), Miriam (concierge), and Alexandre (Sunwing rep). They even tried to intimidate and threaten us with eviction from the resort because we stood up to them and advocated for ourselves. If you review the comments posted by past guests to this resort, you will notice a trend with regards to complaints about similar robberies. Yet, Octavio is denying culpability in an effort to cover up a well organized criminal ring operating on his staff. I have no doubt in my mind that this was an inside job!!! Guests are targeted and robbed while they sleep and this has been going on for years! Am I to believe that the resort and Sunwing had no prior knowledge of what has been happening after all the reviews bringing attention to experiences of theft and poor customer service? SUNWING! You need to hold this resort accountable for their criminal actions and stop taking Canadians to this resort to be robbed! What next, rape and murder in your sleep? As a guest, I expect a reasonable level of safety at a resort. Here, I got none. Instead, we were made to look like we were at fault! We were responsible for someone entering our room while we were sleeping and robbing us. How absurd! Up to this day, I have heard nothing from the resort as to what they intend to do to make things right with regards to my stolen items. Neither have I heard from Sunwing! The so called 'process' followed by the Sunwing rep in no way came close to making things right. If you are reading this review, and others like it, and you are planning to visit this resort, Please, DON’T. Be mindful of your safety and do not stay at this resort ever! If you are already at this resort, be sure to note the following: If you bring a complaint and follow up, they will threaten you with eviction. Be sure to barricade your door at night to keep safe. If you have a problem, you cannot have a logical discussion with the front desk staff, security, concierge or Sunwing rep as they are all ill-professional staff. It baffles me that companies that are supposed to be in the service industry could deal with a situation like ours in such a callous, don't care, and unprofessional manner. I will continue to use all outlets available to me to bring awareness to my horrible stay at this resort and my experience as a traveller with Sunwing, until such time that recompense is made.

Beautiful Resort

This hotel was beautiful! It was huge without feeling overwhelming and the staff were terrific - super friendly and helpful! Beach was awesome and the entertainment was fantastic! Overall, a great vacation!

Great resort

Rooms are very nice and clean. Would recommend clock radio's in room. If you don't have watch/cell phone there is no way to tell time Huge resort with lots of walking but they do have shuttle that will take you to room/restaurants/beach for those who have difficulty walking (and don't want to burn all those calories from fantastic meals) Did find the reservation process for a la carte restaurants cumbersome and confusing... every time we tried to make reservations at the designated time we  [... read more]were advised to show up, limited capacity/all booked or they would tell us that reservations were to be made at a different time of day. Buffet was great - so we finally gave up trying to book restaurants. Beach and grounds are well maintained.

Great Resort

The resort it's self for the amount of people on it were beautiful and super clean. The staff were friendly and always willing to go over and beyond. we stayed in one of the Villa's, the room its self was big and beautiful, our favorite part was the outdoor shower and the balcony facing the laguna, waking up in the morning to sit on your balcony was amazing. The private pool area was quite and relaxing they had cabanas that you could reserve for the day and it was nice to get out of the sun sometimes, and they had enough lounge chair it you wanted to sit in the sun and relax, the workers would come by every so often to make sure that your drink was good and if you needed anything, everyday at 12:30 they would bring around some snacks, like sandwiches and chips and guacamole(which i had everyday). The buffet is nothing special, but they had something there for everyone. The la a carts were really good we ate at the Italian, steak house and tapenaki and they were all really good. On our last last day there, the guys decided to do a deep sea fishing tour, they had a lot of fun doing so and were about to bring the fish they caught back to the resort to cook, our consignor Israel went over and beyond to make sure that the guys got the fished to the cook quickly, as we were bringing outside fish into the resort to be cooked they needed to make sure that the fish was good to eat prior to cooking it, he made sure that the cook checked it and let us know if it was good to eat. They had prepped the fish with some fresh cut up vegetables. It was amazing how quickly he worked to make sure that we were able to eat that fresh fish. There isn't really anything I could complain about except for it is a really big resort and there is a lot of walking involved if you wanted to go to the beach. We didn't spend anytime at the beach as we were at the beginning of the resort and the beach was about 1km away, but it was also very windy at the beach. The only other thing that I was not impressed was there was a group of us that stayed at the Villas that week and the day of our departure we had requested a 5:30am wake up call and unfortunately not one of the 3 rooms got a wake up call. We were woken up by our bag boys at 6 am to come and collect our luggage. But other then that, the resort was amazing and I would recommend the resort to anyone as there was a little something for everyone there. Thank you to Grand Sunset Princess for the amazing and memorable trip, until next time and for sure there will be a nice time at GSP.

Another great visit!

Just like all the previous times we've been at the Grand Sunset Princess, it was perfect! The beach was full of seaweed the first few days but towards the end of the week was all cleaned up. No complaints at all.

Amazing resort

The grounds were Amazing, the food was awesome, the beach was perfect and the staff were very friendly I didn't like that we had to wait over an hour in line to check in at the lobby when we arrived because multiple buses arrived at the same time, more staff needed at front lobby during busy times.

Beautiful!!

I had an amazing time for my first all inclusive vacay!! Room was amazing, the grounds were beautiful and the staff were incredible oh and the food nice selection and delicious Thank you next time i'd like to stay 2 weeks !!

Such a lovely Resort

The Grand Sunset Princess is a beautiful, clean, hospitable resort. The beaches were clean with lots of comfy seating and entertainment. I wish the main eating facilities were a bit closer to the center of the resort but the walk was pleasant from our room to the lobby The food was delicious and plentiful The service was fast and friendly We would love to stay with this resort again some day it is 100 out of 100 for us

Nice Resort - No Complaints!

Overall this was a very nice place to stay. Two resorts in one - the Sunset and the Riviera - facing each other. People wander from one to the other using pools, beach areas, and eating establishments. The food at the buffet is good - enough variety on a daily basis to find something appetizing and filling. Staff is friendly and helpful. Bars rarely had lineups and I did not notice a difference between them. The pools are nice and get to a warm temperature by mid-afternoon. They are not t [... read more]raditional pools (no laps) but rather meandering waterways throughout the resort. There are small wading pools as well for the little ones. No bugs when I was there. Lots of wildlife - too bad some visitors cannot read the signs and feed them. My room was great, had everything I needed and was cleaned every day. Had nightly entertainment - show at 8:30 in theatre and live music around 9:30.

Excellent Bang for the Buck

The resort is less than an hour from the airport. It's meticulously maintained. Service is great. Very short line ups at the bars and restaurants. We loved how the boardwalk to the beach typically had wild life singing in the trees including monkeys.

Great Family Resort

This is our second trip back at the Grand Sunset Princess - March Break of 2018 and 2019! We loved the experience both times. The resort is immaculate, the service outstanding and this year there was a focus to keep the beach well groomed and sea weed free, which we all appreciated. Our kids, aged 4 and 6 also loved the nightly shows. We would highly recommend this resort.

A wonderful trip from beginning to end

My husband and I traveled to this resort from Vancouver BC for my birthday celebration & to relax and unwind. We traveled with Sunwing and had no issues with the airline there and back. We opted to book Canada Transfers from Cancun airport to the resort & used them for the return trip as well. Canada Transfers was a great experience, from the greeter, to the driver. We had the cold towels upon arrival & purchased a couple of cold drinks that they had waiting for us, for the trip to resort. T [... read more]raffic was good and it was a 40 minute drive. Friendly and professional. When we arrived at the resort, it was exactly as seen in the photos, gorgeous and huge. (Even though the resort was big, we found multiple little areas to lounge quietly by ourselves). The front bellman asked us where we were staying on the resort which was the Sunset Platinum section. We were whisked away within minutes to the Platinum Lobby. Check in was easy and took a very short time. (We also enjoyed a nice welcome drink while checking in). Our luggage was brought to our room 5 minutes after we got in. The room was lovely and spacious & we enjoyed the outdoor Jacuzzi a few time during the trip. The Royal Holiday staff were all over the place, but were respectful and nice. You just had to give a firm, no thank you. Food: We enjoyed the Sunset Buffet at the main lobby our first night & it was delicious, but after that evening we chose to go the restaurants. Our favorites were the Steak House, La Fleur, Mama Mia. We also attended the Platinum Gala on the Thursday night at the Snack Riviera with a set menu & was wonderful, with live musicians and delicious food. For lunches we loved the taco cart by the tequila pool & the hamburger cart by the fantasy pool. We had room service for breakfast everyday and the Platinum lobby lounge has great snacks throughout the day to enjoy. (loved the little sandwiches at lunch time if we were still hungry). There was no way you could go hungry at this resort, with so many options available. We also visited the ice cream parlor once during our stay on the family club side which was a treat. Overall: The platinum area at the beach was beautiful & we never had trouble finding two loungers in the shade & we went down there after lunch at times. The beach itself was beautiful & the seaweed didn't bother us, it is mother nature after all. The spa at this resort is amazing! We ended up spending a few hours a day over a three day period enjoying some of the services. The Hydro therapy circuit, massages and relaxation room were on my top 10 spa experiences. There was lots to see and do on the resort & my favorite part was seeing the silly cute coaties. The cats were sweet & the iguanas very regal and interesting. We did manage to see a turtle in the lagoon & several pelicans, but no crocodile or spider monkey's on this trip. Staff: The staff working at this resort were so humble, sincere, kind and hardworking. I wish we could have gotten everyone's names to list, but for those I haven't named below, thank you for making our trip so great. Everyone had a smile, and went above and beyond to help at every turn. Here are a few people that we did write down who made the stay special; Hector & Gloria (platinum concierge) Manu (platinum front desk) All of the inter resort shuttle drivers Jorge, Martinez & Acosta (Spa masseuse) Daniel (Front desk Spa) Fernando (Steak House Snack Riviera) Blanca & Manual (Mama Mia) Veronica (Maid, loved the daily towel animals! She did such a great job with our room & was exceptionally friendly) And finally Addy from Royal Holiday. I know these guys don't work for the resort but she was a spitfire & we enjoyed chatting with her. She tried hard to get us to go on a tour (which we didn't do), and even when she knew we weren't interested she spent time joking & having fun with us. Would we go back: I think we will go back one day & when we do we'll try the Laguna Villas. In the meantime, there are so many resorts in Mexico we might try a different one next time.

Wonderful vacation!

My husband and I had such a great week at GSP. Weather was perfect and the resort was absolutely beautiful. Pros to this resort: Absolutely gorgeous grounds. Kept up so nicely. We barely saw any garbage or a thing out of place. Everything was very clean. We has a swim out room and I highly recommend it! Honestly, the beach isn't that bad...it is just very seaweed filled which didn't bother is too much but it's not that gorgeous white sand, turquoise watered beach. Not the resorts fault of course! It was still nice to hang out on Food: Our review for the food is kind of neutral. For a resort, it wasn't bad. For a 5 star resort in Mexico, we did expect a bit better. The lunch and dinner buffets were not great. Breakfast was hit and miss. The ala cartes were pretty good. We enjoyed the steak house, the french, the teppenyaki, the seaweed, and the Italian. We didn't enjoy the Mexican. However, at every restaurant, and desserts were terrible. :( Ive had better desserts at every other resort (even far less than 5 star) we have ever been to. That was disappointing. There wasn't a ton to do a night, but that's not a big deal. A quiet night isn't the end of the world! The WORST thing about this resort....which isn't really the resorts fault.....the smoke!! Smokers everywhere. It was overwhelming and stinky. I wish there was designated smoking areas. Especially for a family resort, not nice. Overall, we had an amazing time. Loved the staff, Shout out to Manuel from sunset breakfast buffet. Miss it already!!

Very disappointed

All the hotel features were good. The food selection was good. We found you only got good service when you tipped. I had a clothing item stolen from my room. One of the service people went through are suitcases and we complained to the front desk, but nothing was done. We have stayed at this resort twice before and had positive experiences.This experience was very disappointing first we asked for a quiet room, but our room was close the pool swim up bar where there was always loud music. Can't complain

Pros: Gorgeous resort, well-maintained, friendly staff, quick and knowledgable bartenders, good buffets, fun day entertainment and great night entertainment, clean rooms, lots of pools, car rentals on site, good gym, felt safe the whole time. Cons: A bit bigger than I prefer (easy to get lost, far to walk everywhere), the beach had lots of kelp? sea grass?, in the water off the beach there were lots of sharp rocks that were hard to avoid stepping on when the waves hit you, LOTS of kids - badly  [... read more]need an adults only pool, staff should crack down on people who get up early and put towels on a beach chair then don't return for hours, everything in USD even though much of the clientele are Canadian, kind of a far detour from main highway to Playa through some sketchy residential, about a 15 minute drive to Playa. But really though, this is nit-picking. This was a great resort to stay at and we really enjoyed ourselves. Just a few things we noticed that we wished our resort had had.

Great resort

The grounds where very clean. Buffet was good but a la carte restaurant not so much. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the server very good. The rooms were clean daily. Overall a good resort I would go again.

Great resort

Our stay here is was great. Travelled as a family with our 2 sons 18 and 19. We wanted a larger resort with lots of things to do as we were travelling with teenagers/young adults. There were lots for them to do but plenty of pools and beach chairs to choose from if we wanted a quieter spot.

Amazing Service, Well-Maintained, Beautiful Resort

Wonderful resort! The grounds were lush and immaculately maintained. Service was spot on - never waited in any lines. Party if you want to party, chill if you want to chill. Entertainment staff not pushy.

Awesome spot

I would recommend this resort to friends and family. I would also return myself. The location was quiet enough to relax but close enough to the local towns and amenities. The excursions were the highlight of the trip!
