Too many little things to return

So, where do I start? 4th floor rooms without an elevator? Poor service in the Buffet Restaurant? No hot food in the Buffet Restaurant? No hot water in the morning? Being told, by the registration desk, when asking to exchange money, to go to the bank? The staff at the Lobby Bar (located by the beach) and the cleaning staffer who cleaned my room were fantastic, and were tipped well for their efforts. Would go again

This is a small older hotel in the heart of old Varadero. The beach is incredible and not at all crowded. There are parks and public access points on either side and it is several kilometres before you see the busy parts. Within walking distance are all the small craft vendors, cafes, clubs and restaurants and of course the old cars and horse-carts that will taxi you anywhere (check the price before you get in, some older cars have high set rates). I have alw [... read more]ays avoided Varadero because I don't like the crowded beach full of beach chairs and noise but that is at the other end of the peninsula, not here. Sleeping: The hotel itself is a little worn around the edges. If you have been to Cuba then you will know the hard bed, hard cushions, old bedcovers, questionable wiring and plumbing but at Los Delphines everything was clean and in working order. There are tiny ants and the occasional lizard but no insect complaints, use bug spray in the evening for mosquitoes. Try for the Casa or older section. Although there is a fridge in the rooms there is no water or beer supplied but the bars and buffet were always willing to fill your bottle with whatever. Eating: The food for Cuba was quite tasty. Always many shredded veggies for salads, soups, fresh fruit, cooked squash, beans, rice, root veggies, fresh fish and some chicken or pork. Occasional shrimp feasts and always fresh pasta and fresh eggs, yoghurt and bread. This hotel although small and shabby has lots of sauces, mustards, salt and peppers so no excuse about lack of flavour like some places in Cuba. No-one was sick or lost weight and we looked forward to the meals. What protein you don't like the lovely beach cats will help you finish. Note: the french fries (papa frites) are fresh made plantain chips and at the weekly lunch by the pool look for the yuca/cassava fries. There are many restaurants within walking distance for pizza etc but we found prices high for Cuba (large pizza = 12CUC = $14.50CAD) although cheap for Canada. Note: Nonna Tinas, Dantes, Esquina, FM17. Swimming: Beach, fabulous. Water, fabulous. Attentive lifeguards when the waves get a bit tricky. Pool, I have no idea but it looked clean and pleasant. For snorkelling you have to get a boat out. Entertainment: It's a small hotel, don't expect too much. They don't even have a stage but every evening there is something to do as well as beach and patio zumba/dance lessons, exercises and volleyball. The bar area is always lively with the guests from every part of the world: Mexico, Italy, Russia, Germany, Venezula, French Canadians and English Canadians. Many guests return every year and some come many times a year. The hotel in early January was more of the gray haired set than young but there are many fun clubs and bars within walking distance. Note: The Beatles Bar, Todos es Uno amusement park, Havana Club. Our trip included free admission to the Hotel Internacional Nightclub show; it was excellent so go if you can. Also take the hop-on hop-off double decker for 5CUC all day ride on your first day. If you want to see Havana for a day trip, ask the front desk staff for recommendations. Note: ask for the cafe especiale or Spanish coffee at the bar. Staff: Charming, friendly, helpful, attentive and for the most part multilingual. Lots of security so always safe. This is a place you can bring small children or old people. Although there may be some guests looking for a special, temporary, local friend. Tipping: After many years of bringing small stuff we used cash this year instead. We asked some of the staff for advice and they strongly suggested what goods are needed that are of greater value than just cash: soap, shampoo, toothpaste, feminine hygiene, t-shirts, jeans (used is ok), black pants/skirts (used is ok), electronic goods (used is ok), shoes (black for work is best), any clothes. Everything is available in Cuba but some things are unaffordable.

Good deal for the price

This hotel has the best beaches in all of Cuba but the food is mediocre at best. I was quite happy with the hotel overall and is was a very restful holiday. It is quite close to Havana which is a big plus.

Better than SNOW

We stayed a week from Nov.15-22/14 at the Club Los Delfines in the heart of Veradero Cuba. This Hotel has two sections on two sides of the street . The pool side is on one side and the beach side the other. The beach side also houses the only buffet and alacart restaurant in a building that reminded me of the Alamo in Texas. I am told the beach side is reserved for European guests but we stayed there. Some but not all of the rooms in the Colonial (Alamo) building have large balconies. The food of course was not so good but there are lots of restaurants outside the resort where you can get a garlic shrimp dinner for $6.00 or Lobster seafood platter for $15.00. Drinks were good and staff were great. Get the Spanish coffee , it's amazing. And have your morning coffee at the 24 hour beach bar rather then the buffet. It had a pool table and ping pong table to pass the rainy days of which we had 2.....all day. The lobby is tiny and cramped so if you are coming with a crowd expect a long check-in time. The street down the middle of the resort was not an issue and the food in Cuba is what it is so bring snacks. I traveled with another couple and we all had a good time so if small and intimate is your style and you don't mind older hotels you may also have a good time.

Great for the money!!!

Went there last March with my friend. The first room was so small we had to move. But the next morning they moved us to another one. It was a gret room over the pool and looking onto the ocean. The rooms are very clean and the staff great. The idea was to stay downtown so we could visit it whenever we felt like it but we ended up spending all of our time on the beach. Although I loved the location, I think I will go somewhere else. Varadara has the most beautful beaches. It's still my favorite vacation spot.

Great little resort in the heart of downtown!

I went to Los delfines in March 2014. Had a great time! A group of 4 in our thirties. This resort is a little older and smaller than the new resorts. It's not a party place. It's more for the older crowd, relaxed environment. Lucheano The entertainment guy ROCKS! The food was good, beach was gorgeous. Lots of little restaurants right outside the resort if you want something different. Rooms were clean no bugs. Always had hot water. All in all no complaints!

Super value resort

My husband wanted to stay "downtown varedero" to be able to walk around the streets enjoy the cafés and the old cars. This Cuban resort was right on the beautiful beach,clean rooms, nice pool and wonderful entertainment at night. We are planing to return next year and hope to stay for two weeks.

Great value for your dollar. Loved the beach!

The Hotel was very simple and a perfect size for my liking. The customers raved about the place and I could see they kept coming back so that in itself tells you alot about the place and the service team.

Love it there

If you are not picky about food, I think it's the best place to be. Located downtown varadero beautiful beach SUPER CLEAN the staff is AMAZING. if you are looking for a place to relax Los Delfines is the place to be. Can't wait to go back there
