Half and Half

The beaches at Starfish are beautiful. The grounds and staff were very nice. The food was typical and what you would expect. The bathrooms were in a sad state and two of the guys bathrooms were closed for the entire week, which meant guys were using the girls and needless to say they were terrible by weeks end. Overall it's a decent resort that needs to be updated with a facelift to bring it back up to standard...

The worst vacation ever!

Well, I'll start with the good - beautiful beach! The reception staff - nice and polite. That's it. Now the bad: Worst food ever if there was food at all. Dirty, dirty, dirty plates, forks, spoons, napkins, and you have to beg the rude waitresses for it so they say they don't have. We got served in dirty unwashed and used from somebody else glasses many times, disgusting! Check the bottom side of the plates, disgusting as well. Sometimes only old bread and butter leftovers. People don't r [... read more]espect lines, just jump in front of you. 90% Cuban people, drunk 24/7, you can see them sleeping outside because they didn't make it to their rooms. Man and women all together. They smoke everywhere as well. The pools dirty, nobody uses the washrooms. We tipped generously at the beginning but it was not appreciated. The kids entertainment had sexual content not suitable for kids at all. We wanted to go back to Canada since day 2, it was not vacation at all. It's not our first time to Cuba, so we thought we know what to expect, it turned out otherwise. Don't go there even for free!!!

Very nice resort

Grounds where very nice, rooms where clean but dated. We had no issues with linens, hot water or a/c. Due to the time of the year being low season the food was limited and repetitive. Buffets where never opened on time. Check-in was fast and rooms where ready when we got there. Beach was amazing made up for everything that was negative.

Great resort

Had a relaxing vacation at Starfish. Aircon worked perfectly for a hot day. Amazing beach. Downsize was there was only 1 buffet place that was open as well as the a la carte since it is low season Cuba. There was always something for everyone at the buffet.Not a 5 star but it was clean, and friendly staff.

Never would go back

Before going on my vacation I was told the staff at the resorts in Cuba are extremely welcoming and accommodating , I don't know where they stayed but starfish couldn't be farther from the truth. We would smile at staff and most wouldn't even acknowledge we existed. The sheets in our rooms always have some mystery stains on it and could feel the wires in the mattress. When we found cockroaches in our room with the leaking tub that flooded the bathroom, we received dirty looks and a non agreeable [... read more] front desk service. We were then relocated to a room with a whole in the door for all the little critters to come join us, along with a broken toilet. When asked three times if someone was coming to fix it we received blank stares and yes they are on their way. nobody came to fix the toilet. I am aware that most of these problems seem petty, but when paying for an all inclusive vacation and how much we paid I would expect nothing but the best . I would never go back to starfish nor would I ever recommend this hotel to anyone.

Very beautiful resort

The hotel grounds were very well taken care of. The gardeners were attending to gardens every day. Staff at pool bar were amazing especially Raphael. He was the best. Beach is beautiful. The lobby bar staff did not seem like they enjoyed their job. Not as friendly and didn't smile much. The a La Carte Restaurants were ok. The buffet was very repetitive with not much choices and I'm the least picky eater. We did the Catamaran which was very quiet compared to others ones I have done. No music. That was nice but didn't see anyone roll cigars as we were looking forward to that part of the excursion. The lunch at that buffet in the hotel Playa Santa Maria was amazing. Huge, lots of variety and air conditioning. Our hotel buffet area was so hot you didn't want to stay too long to eat. Check in and check out was very quick. Sunwing rep were very kind and help full. Pool was nice and clean. The grill only served hamburgers and ham/cheese sandwich and sometimes fries in the sheltered grill. If you went hungry between lunch and dinner or late snack that is the only choices you had for 7 days. Being my boyfriends first time he really enjoyed himself but since I have travelled to Cuba, DR, Mexico, Jamaica, I knew what to expect but wish the food choices were much better. I have heard of people mentioning the public washrooms. There were no smells outside and ladies were clean but all men bathroom were closed and locked because they said they were not working. That was a huge inconvenience for men. Rooms were nice and always cleaned properly. We did ask reception desk for toilet paper since we were out and said she was sending someone but never got it. Of course they need to make a few changes to keep people going to this resort. We still made the best of it and had a great time.

I LOVE EVERYTHING

As soon as I got to the resort, I was welcomed so warmly by all of the Cuban staff. The rest of the week was exactly the same, everyone was so friendly! The hotel itself was pretty good, and just the atmosphere in general was amazing. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because I didn't feel good after eating the food some nights. Overall, it was the best week ever!

EXCELLENT Beach, nice staff but food poor

The beach is well worth the poor food. Most beautiful beach I've ever seen. The food isn't great so pack lots of snacks and things such as ketchup, peanut butter, salt and pepper. Also salad dressing.

Beautiful beach

The public bathrooms were closed and out of order most of the time ,so we had to go back to our room when we were at the pool or beach to use the facilities . Also the Italian Restaurant was so hot that one could not breath, so we left early.

Good

The Resort was very nice and the beach was amazing . Our room was without hot water on two occasions . The room cleaning service was great. Friendly staff for the most part and I would go back again . Enjoyed the show at the theatre .

Good value for the money

The grounds are lovely, the restaurants (buffet and A la Carte) are fine no issues. The beach is amazing....powdery soft white sand that you can walk for miles. The only real issue was the Public Washrooms, often only 1/6 or 1/8 fully functional at a given time.

Amazing vacation

First off I would like to thank Amanda Garlough for being so amazing. There was 18 of us that went and when we got to the Santa Clara airport there was a private VIP bus there to take us to our resort. During our stay we had an amazing time. The rooms however weren't cleaned on a daily basis but that was the only compliant I have. The resort was beautiful and the beach was absolutely amazing as well as the pools. One side of the resort was shut down however the pool was still being maintained so [... read more] with so many children with us we used that pool and it was like our own private pool. The food was well Cuba food but no one ever went hungry. The morning we departed once again a private VIP bus showed up to pick us up prior to everyone else at the resort so we were the first at the airport so there was no wait time. Beautiful resort

Beautiful beach and beautiful resort. Staff was very friendly. Resort was clean. The food isn't the greatest but that's Cuba. We did not starve, always found something. Champagne was good and they love to make stiff drinks

Amazing beach, good facilities

As everyone says about resorts in Cuba, take it with one less star that site ratings. If you treat this as a three star resort, you'll love it. The beach is amazing, by far the best of the four I've been to down south. Perfect sand, watch the sun rise on one end and set on the other. The pool is pretty good with daily activities and a swim up bar. Hotel accommodations are good, but make sure you ask them to change the sheets otherwise they'll reuse them. Rooms are big enough to relax in, but th [... read more]e king bed was two twins pushed together. Electricity and thermostat all worked. The food was subpar. Dry, stringy, and a little crusty from the heat lamps and mass quantities produced, but everyone says Cuba food is bland. Bring hot sauce or other flavouring condiments to save your taste buds. Even the a la carte fell short of anything impressive. Drinks are ample but tip is king. Tip for preferential treatment! Wifi is also spotty at best, but that was made well known before going. No business work can be done regularly. Good resort for a last minute getaway, and if the price is right I would go again. It's far from any major city so you're restricted to pretty much staying on the resort or doing excursions.

Nice but needs renos

The pools and beach were amazing and clean. The staff were friendly and courteous but tardy for major problems. Eg no hot water in our room. And once fixed it was hit or miss. The food was not the greatest but was decent. This was the second time I stayed at the Starfish resort. I brought my two children and they had a blast. There were a lot of high fives from the staff which made them feel special. And it was very kid friendly. Nice resort

Amazing beach, beautiful grounds, hotel kept clean. This resort is very big, lots of people, gets crowded at times. Hotel staff friendly and helpful. Food was ok better then expected. Overall we had a great time.

Awful resort!

We had our room robbed 2nd day in. My husband had no shoes for 6 days. He had water shoes. Worst trip ever. His was crippled in pain and could barely make it to th pool let alone anywheres else. Stay away!

Food Scarce

Food shortages at every meal. eg. Running out of bread for toast in the morning. Food selection very limited. Beach was very nice shady hut had to be reserved early as I noticed people heading for the beach as early as 5:30am to get them. Water was rough with lots of strong waves but very clean and warm. Staff and service were excellent. CUCs in 1 peso denominations were in short supply at the front desk and the Bank Counter im the resort as well as the Bank Counter at the airport forcing larger [... read more] than normal tips. Most places would only give out about 5 at a time to each customer.

Average to good resort, beautiful island in Cuba

Resort was average to good - no clean towels for two days in hotel room. No clean beach towels for the entire week. Buffet ran out of bread. Hamburg grills ran out of bread. Long line ups to get food. Very crowed and busy. Quality of food was average to poor.

Wonderful Resort!

This was an amazing vacation. The turquoise ocean and white sand beach themselves made our vacation. They were the most beautiful and clean we have ever seen. You can walk for hours along the ocean shore. The resort is nicely planned and has a lot of tropical trees and plants. The rooms were very specious and clean. It was a great variety of food. You always can find something to eat. We have never been hungry between meals. The staff is very friendly and cooperative. We took a full day trip on  [... read more]catamaran that offered 2 snorkeling’s; Dolphin’s show and interaction with dolphins plus the lobster dinner. It was a great value for your $99 pesos. I really recommend this resort to spend your vacation.
