Excellent Family Resort

Resort was simple, clean and well laid out. The rooms were dated (gardenview) but were clean and most importantly everything worked as expected. There were lots of activities for both kids and adults alike - you can be as active or laid back as you would like. The beach was gorgeous with a wide frontage before the water and the ability to walk in either direction for a while. Beach chairs were always available no matter what time of day you wanted to go to the beach - no towel games! The food in the buffet was of good quality and we enjoyed visiting both the Pizza and Gourmet restaurants as well. The snack bar at the beach was nice to visit for a quick lunch and was popular with the kids. Our only complaint was that the pool and beach bar could be very busy on the weekends when the cruise ship had people visiting the resort for a daily or overnight visit. We would recommend this resort for families with elementary aged children but not for couples looking for a week away in an exotic location. We felt that we received excellent value for the money spent (compared to 4 to 4.5 star resort in Cuba) and would return without hesitation!

Amazing resort

Our experience was perfect. We got to eat 4 nights in a la cart restaurants so food was good and always available for your convenience. Entertainment was the best. Lots of fun and professional. For both kids and adults and all throughout the day. Rooms were good and bartenders super nice too. Loved our time at the beach right off our room and loved the view everyday to the ocean. Would recommend it.

Beautiful beach!

The rooms at this resort are very dated, unless you get a VIP room (time share). Other than that the resort is great. Staff is very friendly, food is great and the beach is beautiful! For just relaxing it’s a good spot. The resort is quite isolated, so there’s not a whole lot to do unless you take a tour or rent a car.

Beautiful

Bahamas is a paradise and the resort is pretty good...some “basic standard “ rooms aren’t upgraded and the “ocean view “ rooms are too close to the “night show stage” so even if you have decided to get sleep earlier and skip the show, you may forget to sleep until midnight :) And, in general, this is a good place to escape for all the ages. The stuff are great, professional and friendly, the food is good, the ocean is fantastic.

Great resort!

The hotel is clean, beds confortable, amazing room on the beach. Small and intimate resort. They have an amazing animation team and we were impressed by the quality of the shows at night. The costumes and chorégraphies are great. We just loved our week and would go back. The water of the pool was very cold... the only négative thing!

The Staff was awesome

The rooms were a little to be desired not terrible but nothing to spectacular. The resort was clean and staff were superb. The meals were good for all nationalities. The resort felt very safe. The beach area was sandy but very rockiein the water

Great resort

Beach and pool are are fantastic. Staff is amazing. I realy enjoyed coffee bar and specialty coffees as I only drink espresso based coffee which I did not find in many resorts that are higher in standings rather than this hotel that is advertised as three star. Room was clean and beds comfortable. One minus was lack of beach umbrellas at the beach and pool area however there were plenty of loungers at the beach so you can find a spot any time of the day. Relaxing Time At Wyndham Resort.

This was our second visit to Wyndham, our first was in 2016,we had a very plasent stay the first time,all twelve of us,so Maureen and I decieded too return.I would really like to complement all the staff Ihad contact with,bar,cleaning,maintenice,office,security,foodservice,and all the kids who put on some enterinment extraordinary,and kept us busy with all kinds games and excerises.The resort was very clean,all day long staff were about picking up glasses,plates,lending a hand too new arrivels. [... read more]The beach was dragged everry two days which was nice,my only complant would be the many rocks, and pieces of cement you encountered while walking out into the ocean for a swim,they came in all sizes,and I brused my big toe.

Great vacation

We really enjoyed our vacation. We were registered for our rooms on the bus and were given our all inclusive bands before we arrived at the resort. We had packed swim wear in our carry on so that we were able to begin enjoying the beach as soon as we arrived. Our room was ready at 3 pm as promised. The room was basic but comfortable. We visited Viva Cafe the first night and were very impressed with the meal and the ambiance. On Tuesday we visited Bamboo and thought the meal was very good. The entertainment at the resort was brilliant. The trapeze was a real hit with my son. It was a challenge but great fun. The entertainment team works very hard at the resort. The Lion King and the Acrobatic evening entertainment were brilliant. The beach was beautiful. There are some rocks as you enter the water but not really an issue. There are palm trees dotted around the beach area for shade as well as a few sails. All in all a very good vacation and would not hesitate to go back in the future.

Relaxation, or activity on a beautiful beach

This is a very good sized resort 15 to 20 minutes from the airport, with an efficient shuttle which has you get registration out of the way on your trip in. If you arrive early like we did just pack a beach bag and grab it out of your suitcase on arrival at the hotel. The check in at 3pm is very efficient. It's not one of the huge expansive places that you have to take a shuttle around. No one was trying to sell us time shares either. Very safe environment. Some rocks which you should be careful of at low tide, but help at high tide. You can get snorkels and find tropical fish just outside the swimming ropes, go at low tide.. The fish think you're going to feed them and surround you. Many opportunities to book excursions around and off the island. Nice expanse of beach with no other resorts around. There are daily activities by the pool and the wonderful friendly staff are encouraging people to join, but not too pushy. You'll see them at night putting on the variety of shows, mainly dancing to themes. One night a week there's a beach show too. The food was quite good, various salads, fruit, and freshly prepared items from the grill, as well with plenty of choice at the buffet. Breakfast has made to order eggs. They aren't very good at clearing away dishes though. We had vegan and a vegetarian with us and they were able to find something good every day. The pre-booked service restaurants have to be advised in advance. They all have their set 4 course menus with various selections. Getting the ice machines to work is a bit of a challenge, and there are sea gulls and wasps around the beach bar. The rooms are all the same, typical North American Standard, not too big, but very clean and cool. Wi-Fi is good even in the rooms. Solar heated showers take a little while for the water to heat up. I'd say the ocean view was worth it. We liked this for a family vacation and found it was very good value. We agreed we'd return.

Hotel staff & management are trying but some aspects of the property are in dire need of TLC

You can tell that the staff and management of the Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach Resort are trying hard to please their guests most of the time and everyone worked so hard at it. Please know that we appreciated the effort because after-all, we had gone for rest and relaxation. The common grounds of the Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach Resort are well maintained. We had a gardenview room but even when quizzing other guests who had booked ocean-view rooms, their experiences were similar. The food and service in the Bamboo and Italian a la carte restaurants were good. Those were the only two a la carte restaurants we attended. The food at the buffet was mediocre most of the time. All that being said, we didn't go for a posh room or upscale dining. We went for the R &R, culture, climate, beach/ocean and availability of water-sports included. The beach needed to be cleaned better. There was glass and plastic found on a couple of different days. However, the water-sport options were excellent! Hopefully, this candid feedback helps future guests with their expectations of this property and alerts management to the repairs and maintenance required.

More Than I Had Hoped For!

This was the first time that I stayed at a resort that wasn't 5* so I wasn't sure to expect. I was very pleasantly surprised. The biggest difference to me was the lobby, which is usually really large with a lot of marble but this one was small and mostly wood but made no difference to me because check in and check out was amazingly quick. I had read in the reviews that the rooms need updating, and they do, but they were clean and that's all I ask for. I don't spend a lot of time in my room so if the bed and shower are clean then I'm good. One thing that about this resort that was wonderful is the amount of chairs around the pool and on the beach and the pool towel service. We were able to change towels anytime the towel shack was open, which doesn't usually happen. I was also very happy to see that staff were allowed to eat in the buffet, which to me says they are treated well by the resort.

Amazing

Great resort..food was fantastic...staff friendly...beach went on forever... Room was clean...only thing room fridge wasnt stocked with water..other than that..great holiday..very relaxing Ask for a room with a beach veiw.

Great Vacation

We just came back from vacationing in the Bahamas - Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach. A very nice resort... the rooms were clean, the pool and beach were near each other, and the food was quite good and tasty. The entertainment staff came from various countries around the world... Italy, Greece, Canada. They were all very friendly and funny, especially Alex! A wonderful group who made our vacation even more fun and lively. They should be commended. Thanks for a memorable vacation!

Location location

If you go, get an oceanfront room preferably in the Bimini section 2nd floor. The view is beautiful. Overall I felt I got more than what I paid for. Food was good at the buffet with a few stand out dishes over the week. The cafe al a carte was very good so we went there twice. I had a good curry salmon at the Asian as well. We had a couple small schools of fish follow us around then had a bigger fish join in for a bit. There are only two bars but waits were short and the alcohol was above normal bar grade. The Ricardo Gold and Dark Rum were very good. Yes they could address some of the small things like towel availablilty in the rooms, a coffee shop open early, stocking the room fridge, free room safe, but they do offer trapeze and paintball which is not a normal inclusion. There is no problem getting chairs on the beach any time of day, no need to get up at 6am like most places.

Average Resort

The beach had rocks along the length of it so you had to be careful when trying to wade out. One main swimming pool that the seagulls would dive into to drink water from while you are swimming and also drop their food into. They came and took the towels every morning and didn't return them till late afternoon so you were left the whole day with no towels in the room. The gym was very hot as the fans didn't do much to cool the place down. The staff were really friendly. Though it seemed like the resort was catered to the Italians (children's songs were mostly Italian in the nightly show and they even put on an Italian comedy) and most of the activity and entertainment staff were more fluent in Italian than English. The nightly entertainment was excellent especially their trapeze and Lion King show. They had a different nightly theme too with props to go along with it.

Definitely a 3 Star Resort

The grounds were well kept considering they had a hurricane last fall. Service at this hotel is lacking. The staff that worked in the buffet clearing tables and putting down new place settings were very slow. At one time my husband and I did 2 laps of the entire seating area trying to find a table that had cutlery and napkins and no dirty dishes on them. Over half of the seating area was dirty. Staff truly don't seem to care if they see you happy or not. Sad thing is we were 4 in line and it took an hour to get to the front desk. Food was not kept hot no matter what time you got to the buffet. They don't seem to have ways of keeping the dishes warm. Sad but true. Entertainment was very good. Beach was lovely and worth all the rest. Rooms were outdated and showed it.

Poorly Run Resort

Not bad.

Great beach. Great food. The employees that liked their job were great. A few didn't like theirs so much. We asked for no kid zone and were stuck in the back 40 where it hasn't been renovated like the ones up front that we found about 5 days into our vacation and we actually paid more for the one in the back. Shower had 5 streams of water, floors never washed but beds clean. TV didn't work till we got exchanged after 5 phone calls. Beach is never packed so didn't have to reserve lounger ever first thing in the morning. The best ala carte is the Gourmet. Italian okay and we never tried the Asian as too many said no good. They had all liquors even Rye which is hardly ever seen. Lots of excursions to choose from. Massage on the beach is a must. Take a walk down the beach about 45 mins to Banana Bay to grab a bite and drink is definitely worth the trek. Local fish fry a must see. Delicious food. All in all inclusive place for those that are going to relax on the beach and are not picky. p.s.......the big bag of Lays chips at the hotel are $7.47 USD. Quite pricey but then we knew that going to Bahamas.

Great Trip!!

We Had an awesome time at Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach !! The only thing I would change though is the condition of our Room and the Bathroom ..I think they do need major improvement ( starting from bed sheets,beds,floor tiles,shower head in a bathroom ...screen door would be great at 2113 ..and all the Bathrooms on a resort need some TLC too ) But I would still recommend this place to everyone !! Thank you to all the staff of the resort for making our trip great !!
