Wonderful Trip - Feb/17

This was our 4th time in Varadero but our first time at Starfish Cuatro Palmas. We stayed in the economy rooms across the street (which we were a bit worried about at the time of booking) but what a nice surprise! Our room was very nice, roomy, clean and modern for Cuba with a king size bed and body pillows! At the time of booking we were also concerned about the noise coming from the nearby clubs (Calle 62 and The Beatles Club) but the noise was not an issue and everything was great. If there was a "downside" to the room it would be nowhere to hang clothes and no drawers but, really, no biggie, we're in Cuba in the beautiful sunshine! We had 4 other friends from the other side of Canada who stayed at Cuatro and both loved it. We will all be returning for sure. The waiters at the economy resort were wonderful - making me my coffee/hot chocolate/frothed milk mixture perfect every morning. The ladies at the main check-in desk at Cuatro were very nice and helpful - I had to make a phone call to Boca de Camarioca and it just happened that one of the ladies at the front desk lived there and assisted me with my phone call. The bar service at all 3 bars was excellent. Juliette in the buffet restaurant was outstanding, as was the entire staff at this resort. This trip was a big one for us....we rented scooters and got engaged in Boca de Camarioca on a secluded beach. I highly recommend this resort, not too big, not too loud, clean, friendly and safe. My only regret was having to leave before having a chance to talk to the manager (whom we met last year) about planning our wedding at the resort.

Very relaxing resort in the heart of Veradero Beach

We just returned from 7 nights at Starfish Cuantro Palmas. This resort , although small in size is large on service and great hospitality. The staff lead by the onsite General Manager, David, were always there when called upon. The beach in Veradero is world class, the two a la carte restaurants and the buffet restaurant are better then average. Breakfast food was always fresh, the fillet beef in the Italian style beach restaurant was fantastic and the Cuban restaurant offered great local fare.  [... read more]Many of the guests I met had been to this resort several times and as repeat clients knew the staff they were dealing with. The pool, although not heated, was very clean with plenty of beach chairs available. Value for money is at the high end of any scale. Wished we had booked two weeks instead of one!

Had an amazing vacation!

The things we liked best, in this order, were: the actual resort location and smallish size (we didn't have to go far for anything and the amenities off the resort were steps away), the beach, the animation team and nightly shows (better than we've ever seen), the food, the friendly staff and all the daytime activities. All these things were great. The resort grounds were also clean and well maintained. The salsa bar across the street was a hit as was the Beatles Bar down the road. The rooms, [... read more] however, varied and some were in need of repair and updating. We had an upgraded room and it was fine, but basic. We were prepared for the worst because of reviews from others travelling to Cuba, particularly about the food, and were presently surprised - we will definitely return!

Great Place

The Montreal, Qc people, had NO rooms available until after 4:00 pm. I requested NO stairs, but all the lower rooms were being renovated. I was put on the 1st floor but had a very nice view. Food was good at this hotel.

Pleasant vacation

We stayed at SCP from August 8 to 15, first time at this resort, third wisit to Cuba. We were a group of five adults and two teenagers. This was our first time to stay at a 3 star resort. The facilities are 3 star: one pool, no swim up bar, no jacuzzi, no specialty restaurants. There is a good jim, massage and sauna which I enjoyed daily. We stayed in Quatro Palmas rooms and found them to be outdated, run down, but clean and suficcient, since we didn't spend a lot of time in the rooms. One coupl [... read more]e stayed in Colonial section, rooms were newer and in the quieter area of the resort. I would recommend this section. The staff was very pleasant, helpful and accomodating. Since it is a small resort, the food in the restaurant was fresh and there were several good food choices. This is the first time in Cuba when none of us had any stomack issues. One staff member helped us organize a private tour to Havana. The guide spoke excellent English and was very knowledgeable. We all loved the tour and hope to go back to Havana in the future. One thing I liked very much was that the resort is in Varadero, which gave us additional activities such walking after dinner, sightseeing, shopping...There were several good restaurants accross the street from the hotel. There were also some bars which played loud music untill late at night. Lackily our room was facing the pool area. If you decide to visit and do not plan to visit the bars make sure your room is not facing the street. The hotel entertainment was good, especially the evening shows. Dancers were beautifull, well trained and there was a different show every night. We also took a snorkeling katamaran toor from the beach and were not amazed. The next day we went on a snorkeling half day trip to visit the reef. We all liked it very much, and if snorkeling is your thing I would recommend this tour. The beach is absolutely beautiful, sendy bottom but there is no snorkeling. Most of the people who stayed at this time were from Italy, France and Germany. Before we booked this resort I checked the TripAdvisor and found that it was #8 out of 62 resorts. Many were returning customers and I was curious why? Even though it is a 3 star and lacking some of the facilities and luxuries, our overall experience was very good and we'd go back to this resort.

Great club

I had wanted to try this resort out for a long time,the location is perfect!My mother came with me to Cuba and we were joined by my wife and her two daughters from Russia.We had just arrived and we were relaxing at the lobby bar when my mother decided to go look in a shop,after awhile I went looking for her.Unknown to myself she had fallen down 3 stairs to the lobby level.She seemed a little shaken but alright...the next day she told me that she felt she should have her foot looked at.Across the [... read more] street was the clinic.after X-rays it was determined she needed a cast.The hotel arranged for a different room,and I thought did their best to make us comfortable.All the staff,restaurant managers,manager and even the cooks went out of their way for us.They have a human resource woman named Annoushka who we thought was just amazing,she spent alot of time with my mother.She was fully re-embursed all her medical costs by the hotel and the manager arranged a limo for her and I to the airport ...he even got up early(6:00 am)to see us off.A few weeks later sunwing sent mom a check for 500 dollars as a gift.I highly recommend this property and even after our setback had a great holiday. Kudos to the sunwing rep as well for all his help.

Loved it

I was very impressed with the dining room, the wide array of food available and the well trained staff. The pool was lovely, always clean. The beach, the beach bar and the beach restaurant were excellent. I thought the lobby and inside bar were impressive, with the mahogany framed windows, open to the sea breezes. The employees were very thoughtful and kind. I loved it all, the location was great, near to clubs and restaurants for evenings when a change was nice.

I loved the resort

the dining room and the food assortment were amazing, the staff were kind, considerate and just lovely people. the pool was always clean, the beach was beautiful, the grounds were nicely landscaped, well kept, with a staff of gardeners constantly tending to it. the lobby and bar area were beautiful reminding me of Bermuda, with mahogany framed windows open to the sea breezes. Third time to the starfish

We love this hotel. As far as we are concerned it's the only place to stay in Varadero. The staff is great, rooms are clean and comfortable . The food is always fresh and delicious . The ocean view rooms are incredible. We love the resort because of the amazing beach so close to you're room the Beatles bar a block away as well as all the shops and the amueent park within walking distance the location is the best. We where there this time for the last 2 weeks of June for are 25 th anniversary. Best time again

This is the 3rd time i have been to this resort in the last 1and a half years and still love it. The food is always been great and the service is top notch . Every time i come i see changes and all for the good they now have WIFI that is new. the beach is the best you cant beat it. But the thing that works the best for me is the location right at the end of town and you can walk to everything.

Worst Hotel Ever

Well we are not impressed.The Resort itself is sitting in a good location, close to restaurants bars and local shopping.It is small with beautiful views.We have travelled for 15 years and always checked out the Resorts website and read the reviews on Tripadvisor before booking.We always travel with an open mind.Well this resort was certainly over rated by (travelers).??????This Resort was a huge disappointment. It is very run down, such as the cleansiness, Ex: Broken glass on the stairway to the [... read more] rooms all day and same dirt and a rose pedal for three days.Rooms are outdated, furniture is old, chairs on balcony are ancient.Towels (white) look like rags, they are grey and stained. Hotel needs to be painted and concrete around the pool is showing its age, sand in the pool. The main buffet and beach buffet.The food is the same every lunch and super.The food quality is poor.Flys were on the food and the birds also ate there meals. This was everyday.We were given a drinking glass with lipstick still on it. We observed the washing of there glasses one day. They take one glass, put water in, wash with a cloth, take that water poor into next and so on then stick there fingers inside to hold several to place on shelf.The activity team or evening entertainment was not very good.We observed male staff coming back in the evening and partying with the young female tourist on the resort. I have never seen this allowed ever before.Not good business. The one A La Carte that we did attend (Italian).The food was ok and the restaurant was outside and it had no class at all. The Manager that was on duty during our stay did not or would not speak english to us when there was an issue , but thats ok his body language told it all.He was not proffesional at all.We will never return or recommend anyone to this resort. On a possitive note I would like to say that the staff such as the bartenders, maids,waiters and the pool guys were very nice and gave good customer service. Another great trip

This was our second time at the starfish like always a great time. This hotel is close to everything. The staff at the star fish makes your stay enjoyable. Looking forword to another trip next year at the starfish

Amazing Vacation!

Great hotel steps away from restaurants, shopping and night life. Rooms are basic but clean.Friendly staff, good food ( Cuban A La Carte was delicious) and beautiful beach!! What more can you ask for?! Can't wait to return!

Verry nice resort

clean and well maintained nice rooms, location very conveniant, beach bar hit or miss when open. lobby was amazing with lots of seating..could use pool loungers on both sides of the pool . would have no problem going here again

Great resort in perfect location!

This small resort is the perfect size for older couples who just want a laid back vacation on the beach. Our room overlooked the pool area and had a wonderful garden view from the balcony. Very clean and spacious with a bar fridge, satellite tv and a king size bed. We visited both a la carte restaurants (Cuban and Italian) and found the quality to be excellent. The buffet restaurant had lots of variety and choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This has greatly improved since my visit two ye [... read more]ars ago. David, the manager, has done wonders in stepping up the quality of the dining experience at this hotel. The beach is absolutely amazing with powdery sand and clear water, with lots of palapas for shade. The beach bar is just steps away, and serve mojitos, rum punch, cervezas and limonade. This is a great little spot, conveniently located in town within walking distance to restaurants, discos, parks and markets.

Favorite place i!

This was our third time to this resort and every time it gets better. The long sandy beach is beautiful for the beach walkers . The food is very good , was happy with the variety and quality . I believe staff must all be working on customer service as it was so much better than last year in every way . Bartenders didn't take the course though , I guess they are so overworked it didn't seem to matter how much you tipped them , they didn't give you any notice the next time . Don't go to this resort if you want a luxury room , it will be clean , your bed will be good and you will have warm water for your shower everyday . The reason we go here is when you walk out the front of the resort you feel the rhythm of Cuba , as you are walking out to the main street of Veradaro. Calle 62 across the street amazing music at night , restaurants down the street , great lobster .Beatiful old cars like you've never seen before , horse and buggy cart taxis clip clopping down the street , it's a special experience . You are never hassled to buy anything by merchants or people on the street . I always feel so safe . Best place to experience Cuba in my opinion !

Like heaven to me

My Eco room was immaculate. It had been renovated so fresh paint, nice deco, lovely balcony and always super clean! All the staff at this resort are awesome people, including the guys that worked with my broken door lock after midnight. The ladies at the reception, security, bartenders....lady who cleaned my room. I only have praise for all of them, never had such a great experience in Varadero. The food at the buffet and the restaurant by the beach was great. Very friendly hotel

beautiful beach . staff very friendly. our 8th time in this hotel. big change in management.. the manager tried his impossible too please. will be back next febr. no taxi needed to visit the vilage and markets

Wonderful resort

Staff and management made us all feel very welcome and went out of their way as we celebrated a very special 55th wedding anniversary with family. Excellent food and service. Would highly recommend to a friend., vey

Very good location

This is the second time I stayed at this hotel/resort. Very friendly helpful staff. Clean in all areas. Beach clean and always had loungers available. Pool looks good but did not use as am a sand person. Food was very good with a selection to choose from. I anyone goes away hungry it would be their own fault. Hotel centrally located with lots to do within walking distance. Will be returning to this hotel when I go back in the future.
